I am internet in buying the Desire HD and from Telus
On the phone, I see that there's a pin hole near the LED flash
Would anyone know if Telus Desire HD have noise cancellation?
That's the preproduction model.
The actual phone doesn't have this hole
I don't know if its for noise cancellation but my telus dhd does have the hole by the led.

i noticed the Asia & Europe Version does not have the pin hole
i had google on the Telus version
many vendor claims to have the noise cancellation feature
My Telus DHD has the hole.
does the manual mention anything about what the pin hole is for?
Just looked in the manual, doesn't mention the hole or anything about noise cancellation.
Edit: I was just looking at the HTC Inspire 4g which is very similar to Telus Desire HD. It has the hole in the back by the LED and says its for noise cancellation, so I would guess Telus DHD does too.

this is just weird
in the US, Inspire 4G claims have this feature
"Entertainment HQ. With a mind-blowing 4.3" WVGA screen, Dolby + SRS Surround with noise cancellation and all your favorite movies, live sports and primetime shows streaming at 4G speed, you don't waste any time when there's time to kill."

Bought mine from Telus store on the 10th. It HAS the hole.
Just FYI.
finally got the reply from HTC North American
this is their final answer on the noise cancellation feature
Features, such as noise cancellation, can be removed or added by the carrier. The Desire HD may not have this feature as it may have been removed by the carrier.
As for the pinhole, it looks like it is an access point for the repair department. If the camera or flash needs to be repaired, they have a tool that will slide in that hole and then the panel will pop right off.

now the question is
could this feature be enable by software?
or
is the noise cancellation mic actually missing?

I watch a lot of video on my mobilephone, and was wondering how well the loudspeaker works on the Desire? My Xperia X10's speaker is quite weak when wathing video, while my Samsung Omnia HD and iPhone 3G has loudspeakers that work quite well when watching videos.
Is the loudspeaker on the Desire placed on the top or bottom of the device, and is it on the frondt- or backside of the device?
The Desire is not available in Norway yet, so I can't check it out in person yet.
You can check the reviews of the desire... in number of those these are loudspeaker demonstrations... check the sticky posts
The loudspeaker is crap mate, well mine is, I have to cup my hand around the back of the phone and make the sound bounce of my hand best part of the time to hear it. Also the speaker is on the back of mine at the top left hand side, I cant hear anything coming from the front of the phone.
hello there
i am thinking of buying the htc desire , but after reading lots of reviews i didn't find any good answer of this question:
how's the sound quality of the earpiece during phone calls?
i work in a very noisy place , and currently i am using pro2 which is great when it comes to this point.
so , is the desire as good as the pro2 or better?? , please advice as i really need your opinions
thanks a lot
For me, the earpiece quality is more than sufficient.
But you might want to take a look at the Nexus One, wich has noise cancellation technology with a second mic.
i can't get the nexus one as it's not avilable in my country , and i am stuck with only two options the htc desire , and the sony x10
i pesonally like the bigger screen of the x10 , but i saw so many posts in its forum saying that it has a very poor sound quality
and i also like the sence interface of the desire as i am using it on my pro2
so compared to the pro2 to the desire how's the sound quality?
any help please
this point will be a deal breaker for me
thanks
Get either. They are both great. Although I prefer the desire's slim feel.
Then get a "Jawbone Prime" bluetooth headset. This has a sensor which detects movement in, you guessed it, your jawbone and only returns what its picking up.
I can make a call doing 70 on the motorway with all the windows down and the receiver can clearly only hear my voice on my headset.
Well worth the investment. Cost me £50

As I was looking at the specs of the G2, I noticed that it does NOT have noise cancelling. When I first got my Nexus, people I called couldn't tell I was outdoors speaking to them.
Has anyone gotten comments regarding background noise from someone on the other end of a conversation?
I had hoped that noise cancelling would be a standard feature after being implemented in the N1.
Any thoughts and experiences would be great as I consider upgrading to the G2.
I'm pretty sure the mic is noise cancelling... from what I can tell. The quality of calls is on par with the MTS which had voice cancelling for sure.
Very good voice quality
Not sure since it doesn't specifically say, but I am getting very good voice quality with my G2. Callers also have confirmed their end is quite clear. Love it.
I thought to have noise canceling u had to have 2 mics? Idk not to knowledgeable on that hardware so correct me if I'm wrong but any N1 owners I've talked to on the phone sound crystal clear =)
fRom Snugs G2 ^.^

It would be hard to converse with an MTS user if the mic was indeed voice cancelling. That's weird.

Yes. One microphone is placed away from your mouth and tells the phone what sound to drop.
I'm quite sure it cancels noise. I have the 3.5mm jack plugged into the aux in my Nissan Armada and have asked if the caller hears an echo or other noises and they say "No, it sounds like you are on a phone in a quiet room"
Hmmm..
First of all, I am coming from Samsung i9100 to this Google Galaxy Nexus.
I have been using it and seems it is not that buggy but fast and smooth.
One problem I am facing is the noise cancellation is crappy during phone call... (while SGS2 does it very well.) My friend talking with me can clearly hear the background noise. For two time I have request for a brand new phone with the reseller but the case is the same.
In term of hardware, it does have dual mic for ACTIVE noise cancellation. May I know if it is software (hopefully) or hardware problem? Does anyone have the same issue??
My device is facing the same problem too. The other side can hear the background noise, which can also be heard in voice recording.
Received 2 phones calls in a club last night, neither party had any problems at all hearing me. Although, I had a little difficulty hearing them.
do any one face the same problem ?...
Or just 2 of us here?
I've only made one call with my brand new nexus, but the caller did complain of background noise. I have to test more but this is worrying. Also do we know that this has a second mic? That hole at the top could it be something else?
I had a conversation on the train and the other party wouldn't believe it because off the good quality. Didn't do a comprehensive test though.

I'm interested in buying this device, but one thing that most reviewers never mention or test is the audio recording quality.
(This was/is a major disappointment with my current device, HTC Desire)
Can people test this and comment on this? More specifically:
-how well can it still record high volumes, at concerts, club, etc...
-stereo?
-which format
Haven't tried much myself, but this video shows how bad it is outside if it's windy:
youtube.com/watch?v=zwwmSvwEQzI
I would guess loud bass (which is air pressure, like wind) at concerts and clubs will do the same.
It did on my previous LG and Samsung phones, only Nokia N82 and N8 did a decent job.
Thanks for the reply.
So it seems from that video (correct me if i'm wrong):
-the recording is in stereo
-it has some automatic gain control (already better than my Desire )
Maybe it would be better if you can set that gain manually
It does have stereo indeed. One mic at the bottom and one at the top, for stereo recordings and noise reduction while calling.
I can't say anything about the rest, but there will probably some experts in here too answer that soon.
Can someone try to record and upload a video with mono setting instead of default stereo?
You may want to check out my post and Youtube links here. There's a disturbing high pitch sound when I record in stereo, but not when I record in mono. I hope it's something easily fixable.

There is no getting around the fact that the audio is bad, no matter how you slice it. HTC is known for bad audio recording, and they are keeping with that tradition. Many HTC phones have stereo recording. Switching between mono and stereo has minimal impact. The wealth of youtube videos shows how HTC is keeping in line with their older phones. Nothing but high pitched clipping that stabs at the ear at the slightest wind, smallest bit of dialogue, or just a car passing by. Even if you can filter the shrill sound out, the actual voices are very robotic and garbled sounding. There are very little low frequencies. HTC is not going to "fix" it with an update because they never did in any of their other phones (like the Amaze 4G, Titan, Sensation, etc.) and expecting some magical update for a hallmark tradition of the brand is unreasonable. Their engineers either don't care or lack the competence for such a simple matter.
If this is a deal breaker, look elsewhere. Don't get coaxed into believing it will get better. This issue in particular will not. Otherwise, the One X is a fantastic phone, if you can ignore this one fatal flaw.
Kinda wished HTC had used the mic from the Rezound. Its so much better than the rest of HTC android phones (other than the annoying random static pops its still better..)
is it confirmed for sure that the One X has horrible music audio in videos? that is a dealbreaker for me because i would be recording myself DJing and concerts/festivals/raves. there hasn't been a post in here since the day it was released, so i need to make sure before i spend over $600. i can just buy a Canon or some other camera until the GS III comes out.
EDIT: it doesn't matter. i will find out myself. i need something to use until something better comes out, so if i don't like it then i will sell it to someone on here in the marketplace.
