As I was looking at the specs of the G2, I noticed that it does NOT have noise cancelling. When I first got my Nexus, people I called couldn't tell I was outdoors speaking to them.
Has anyone gotten comments regarding background noise from someone on the other end of a conversation?
I had hoped that noise cancelling would be a standard feature after being implemented in the N1.
Any thoughts and experiences would be great as I consider upgrading to the G2.
I'm pretty sure the mic is noise cancelling... from what I can tell. The quality of calls is on par with the MTS which had voice cancelling for sure.
Very good voice quality
Not sure since it doesn't specifically say, but I am getting very good voice quality with my G2. Callers also have confirmed their end is quite clear. Love it.
I thought to have noise canceling u had to have 2 mics? Idk not to knowledgeable on that hardware so correct me if I'm wrong but any N1 owners I've talked to on the phone sound crystal clear =)

It would be hard to converse with an MTS user if the mic was indeed voice cancelling. That's weird.

Yes. One microphone is placed away from your mouth and tells the phone what sound to drop.
I'm quite sure it cancels noise. I have the 3.5mm jack plugged into the aux in my Nissan Armada and have asked if the caller hears an echo or other noises and they say "No, it sounds like you are on a phone in a quiet room"

WMExperts, CNET, BoyGenius say things like the call quality and speakerphone in the Tilt2 are excellent. WMExperts say best in the market.
But I read here in the forum of people experiencing muffled sound, low volume, etc.
How to sort this out? What is "reality?"
Obviously this is a feature I am very concerned about before buying the Tilt2. I have relied on Nokia (although they get knocked -- rightfully -- for their OS) for reliable and clear call quality and speakerphone (people don't even notice that you are using a speakerphone).
I think one main factor is network conditions. Under excellent network conditions, you will be able to take advantage of the awesome sound quality that this phone has to offer. The phone volume itself is a bit soft. That doesn't mean sound quality sucks, that means volume sucks.
The speakerphone is a dream though. Dual mics and speakers provide excellent sound quality when using the speakerphone, and the dual mics provide some pretty good noise cancelling.
So while the phone is certainly capable of excellent sound quality, its all up to network quality as well. Personally I think the Tilt2 has more than enough volume for me (way better than the Fuze), and that sound quality has been very good. I especially love using the speakerphone on this thing. Its crystal clear and I love it.

I am inclined to agree with you. I have just moved over to the T-Mobile version after almost 4 years on a Wizzard and the call quality sucks in comparison. It sounds really flat. I cant understand why it gets good reviews. No way this is ntwork affected. I have 5 bars of 3G where I am.

T-Mobile duffed the output, you can find that anywhere in the forums.. AFAIK it does not affect any other model except the T-Mobile, and there is a file you can replace or install to restore it.
the hardware is definately the best of any phone. just try it out with another phone and youll see. for alot of people the low volume can be solved by hitting volume up, but it still can be a bit soft. the software hasnt really changed from phone to phone and being windows mobile, its easy to get the phone louder through software. i would recommend looking at tweaked audiopara3 files.
Since Desire doesn't have the noise canceling function of N1, how's the call quality of Desire compared to N1? Is there alot of difference?
it should be the same with the rest of HTC devices .... except Nexus One

I may b the only 1 who think so but I didn't notice any big difference between N1 & my HD2 & now between N1 & Desire...

People can hear me fine, that's all I care about. Not like Noise cancellation was going to effect anything on my end.
This is making me sound like a noob. But I thought the noise canceling was more meant for speakerphone capability?
There are 2 mics on my Touch Pro2 for noise canceling but that only kicks in when in speakerphone mode. Other times, only 1 of the mic is active.
Having just changed from a Compact IV/Touch Diamond I think the call quality is better, much clearer audio - at my end anyway!

Noise cancellation are for the other end users, ... for example if you are in a crowded place, this feature will make your voice clear to the other end.
even in Touch Pro2, ... when you put it in speaker phone there is a possibly that alot of noise will come, hence the importance of the noise cancellation, .. it will try to ignore the crowd and concentrate on delivering your voice only!
so, it is really meant for the other guy/girl to hear you clearer at the end of the line, ... not you, unless if you wanna hear your voice through your phone, .. which doesnt make sense, Lol
must say im well impressed with the call quality of my desire. calls sound crisp and plenty loud cant believe how good it is ! mind you my previous phone was a xperia x1 which sucked balls for call quality the desire is in a different league altogether !
It is better than my HTC HD2 and much better than my previous iphone in my opinion
It has a secondary mic so just wondering if thats only for recording video or if it is also used for noise cancellation
It is used for noise cancellation as well, much like the secondary mic on the nexus one.

Is there a way to confirm this? The getting started guide doesn't say that it can be used for noise cancellation during calls. But it doesn't say it can't do this either.

Sure. Make a couple of test calls in a noisy environment, then stuff a wad of chewing gum into the secondary mike and make more test calls. Ask the person at the other end if they can hear a difference.
Most basic Android phones have this feature and I have no reason to think the GNEX wouldn't.
It never seems to do much good so its no big deal to me.

Think about it...so much noise will seep in between your ear and the phone that it wouldn't make any difference.
Just get a nice pair of IEMs or a noise cancelling headset like the Audio Technica ATH-ANC7b (or their less expensive ANC products).

Lots of ANC headsets have the mic in an in-line power box on the cable. Bose come to mind for a start. So I don't see as it would be impossible to make the phone perform the ANC when using a standard headset.

Having the mic in an in-line box is very different from having the mic on the playback device. An in-line box is a small device that is most likely close to the earpieces and exposed to the same environment as the earpieces. The playback device is much larger, likely to be further away from the earpieces, and rarely exposed to the same environment, as they are more likely to be in pockets, purses, etc.

Well obviously it would have to not be in a pocket. Not that it really matters since it doesn't do it anyway.

When you are playing music, how often do you not have the phone in a pocket or purse or something like that? You will need an armband or belt holster. Having a feature that only works with certain kinds of holsters that most people don't have is a waste.

Wow. Totally different from my experience with GS2 and iPhone and BB.
I was standing right next to my neighbor's pressure cleaner as he was cleaning his roof the other day and my pops could not hear the engine at all while on the phone with me. I was amazed.
Maybe you are talking about older phones?

So does the phone have dedicated mic for Noise cancellation or not? in the top back of the phone there a tiny hole is this the second mic for noise cancellation?
, currently i have the phone but there is no option mentioning noise cancellation anywhere

Yes, it does. I've tested mine sitting next to my teams flight simulator which derives it's computing power from about 24 6foot double sided racks of servers...so it sounds like a hurricane of fans in that room and I've made calls there and people can't hear anything in the background just silence. When I had my 3gs iphone everyone said they couldn't hear anything but fans when i called them.
I don't know. I was just testing the Galaxy Nexus in a Verizon store and I was disappointed by the noise cancellation (compared to my Nexus One). I tested the two phones in the store with a lot of people talking and making noise in the background, by leaving myself voicemail messages.
With the Galaxy Nexus it was silent when I wasn't talking, but when I was talking you could hear the chatter of people in the background. This to me is typical of older phones that did not have a secondary mic to filter out background noise. Instead they just turned the mic off to cancel background noise when you weren't talking.
With the Nexus One, you couldn't hear any background noise at all, whether I was talking or not. The secondary mic lets the noise cancellation chip tell what's your voice and what's background noise and filter out the background, even when you are talking. This has been my consistent experience with the Nexus One and people always comment on how good it is.
I tested two different Galaxy Nexus phones in the Verizon store with the same results (the floor model and a handset belonging to one of the representatives in the store). It did not compare to the quality of the Nexus One. Also the Motorola Razr was much better too (Motorola has always put an emphasis on in-call audio quality that other manufacturer's ignore).
Really, given the results I got, the Galaxy Nexus to me seemed like it did not have proper noise cancellation at all.
It looks like the Galaxy Nexus does not have the Audience chip that's found in the Nexus One, which does the noise cancellation processing:
www.audience.com/products/overview.php
It's strange, because the Audience chip is in many of Samsung's Galaxy S and SII devices. Perhaps the Galaxy Nexus is using some inferior noise cancellation technology. I don't know. But, sadly, in my tests it didn't compare to the Nexus One.
[Edit: This review at PhoneArena claims they experienced the noise cancellation working on an HSPA+ version: www.phonearena.com/reviews/Samsung-Galaxy-Nexus-Review_id2915/page/4. I suppose it's possible that Verizon left the feature out? Or perhaps the store I was in was not loud enough to trigger the noise cancellation, since they describe the noise cancellation as "kicking in" in noisy environments. My impression on the Nexus One is that it is always operating and does not "kick in" at certain points. In any case, the experience on the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is still that I heard the background chatter of other people cutting in and out, as the microphone seemed to switch on and off depending on whether I was talking, which created an annoying effect, not experienced on the Nexus One.]
i got same problem too,try to call to GS2 and defy in the same area, G nexus noise cancellation very poor. hope they will release some kind of patch to fix it
On my Droid X the noise cancellation mic works great, *especially* for concerts, but you have to change the setting on the camera to "Concert." I see no setting in the GN's video camera options so if it does have noise cancellation it's probably not that great.
I wonder if there is an aftermarket camera that will utilize it a bit better.
Whoa, that's soo cool. How did I just discover this?
I have an HTC Sensation and the call quality is pretty poor. Hard to hear other person and I have it set to full volume. What's the quality like on the One X and if you owned a sensation before how does the call quality compare?
Can anyone answer this? Big part of whether i get the phone or not. Someone must have made a call. Thanks.
I've owned both and i'd say the One X is a big improvement for sure
I've had same problem with my x,but I also have a experia arc both are with Vodafone and they both have no signal bars or 1 or 2 at best.this isn't a phone problem as I thought it was its the network.my one x is unlocked and I've put a orange sim in and it now has 3 to 4 bars all the time, and I'm 2miles out of Manchester so plenty of masts about...

I received my replacement one s due to call quality issues and the new one is even worse. everyone says i sound like im in a tin can as my voice is SUPER muffled. they can hear when i start and stop talking but the words just arent sharp enough to hear anything. wtf is going on with this phone?

Yeap, same thing here...
Arent other people facing this issue?
Even a lot of online reviews mentioned this. But i never thought the mic quality is going to be this troublesome.
I tried calling myself on an Atrix/Galaxy S/Galaxy note
I myself find the microphone quality quite cheap. It picks up the slightest of nicks and bumps but its definitely too muddy for the other persons comfort!!
The call volumes were very low on my G2 and Sensation in the past. They fixed that but messed up the microphone quality!
Seriously disappointing. Not buying a HTC device ever again!
When you call granny, does she keep saying "Huh?! Wut?!" or does the conversation flow pretty well? Rate this thread to express how you feel about the Honor 8's call quality. A higher rating indicates that calls are clear and crisp, and that regardless of background noise, you can hear the other party clearly (and with ample volume) and they can hear you.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
No complaints, everyone hear me...I hear them...everyone is happy. No background noises what so every, very ...very clear.
Clear sound, had to turn down the default volume though, the first caller made me jump as he began to speak!
Hey Honor 8 owners! What is background noise cancelling like? What if you use the speaker instead and hence have the mic away from your mouth? Thanks in advance.

Works well, I've never had any trouble walking on speaker phone, I can both hear the person and they can hear me.
So I have no complaints!
Anyone install a sound mod? I hear Dolby can definitely improve it!
Call clarity has been great, hearing the other party clearly. Though, it doesn't integrate with Google Voice like other phones do.
As a very unsatisfied previous owner of a Moto X Pure with VoLTE choppy audio on T-Mobile network, I am very satisfied with the call audio quality of the Honor 8. Even in low bandwidth areas VoLTE is very clear. Great speaker phone. I wish it was a little louder in speaker phone mode. But it seems that all Android phones are this way from my experience.
No complaints on call quality/volume here. It just works....!
okay quality when talking
Very clear, no issues at all
Hi , call quality is great , sound is clear .. but ..
i am using L10 , with 2 sims , the 4G major sim works just great in calls , the 2G one always get disconnected and / or very bad call sound quality.
i exchanged the sims , and the 4g / 2g options , and still facing the same problem ! so when i want to use sim 2 for a clear call , i just have to set it to 4G , then set it back to 2G after the call .
Huawei Honor 8 FRD-L10 running B380 Android 7
I use two sim card.. and the call quality is actually very good.. couse this is the firs phone I can hear my girlfriend very clear LooOOooL.. becouse on every other phone she sounds very silent .. but on this one its not the case.. I hear her very good and clear..
Clarity is very good as well as the volume.
good call quality.no issue
Call quality is good but then the hybrid sim support ruined the fun here. Wish it had dual sim+sdcard support
Loud and clear calls.
