After trying to flash framework res-apk in order to change my boring white wifi signal into a shiny new green one....i realised the pngs used for the wifi and phone signal are in systemUI.apk...so i flashed the new one and still am stuck with the same old white wifi icon.....what am i doing wrong....whatever i try ...themes/framework-res.apk/systemUI.apk....the wifi and signal icons stay white.
The images for the signal and wifi are in the \res\drawable-hdpi\ folder inside the framework-res.apk

Does Any one know if its possible to change the signal bars from 6 to 4 like in the other galaxy s models.....i think the 4 bars looks way better than 6....thank you.
Yes its possible. The phone reports more than those four steps so you can just have it show four bars full for 5 and 6 too, or any other combo you'd like. The images for them are in the framework-res.apk I believe. Not sure anyone wil do that for you until official froyo though...try it yourself if your adventurous.

The Elegant Steel port that I did for 2.1 has only 4 signal bars. When 2.2 is officially released I will port it to that as well.

Certainly, inside of any theme .zip is a file called framework-res.apk. You can rename the .apk to .zip and open it in any compression tool, such as 7zip or WinRAR. If you would like, you can decompress and unpack this to a folder for ease of use. There are tons of guides on XDA that will help you with this, I would suggest taking a look at some of the guides made by Dreamsforgotten as they are incredibly detailed, and you can find links to them by looking at the sticky wiki thread. Once you get inside of the framework-res.apk, you will see a folder called "res" and inside of that, another folder called "drawable-hdpi". This is the heart of the framework, and the majority of the images that you see on your phone are contained within. The status bar signal icons are named something like "stat_sys_signal..." etc. Just open em up and edit them to your liking, or grab some images from somewhere else to replace them. Hope this helps, feel free to pm me if you need any more help!

Yup no problem. There are multiple different sets of signal bars, on for roaming, 1x etc. Your best bet would be to replace them all, unless you can discern which is which. Look for this in the name "_r_", and if they have this then those are for roaming icons. All others should just be the normal signal.

Nice, welcome to the world of theming Just an FYI, you may have to change some things again when the official froyo release comes out, there is quite a difference between all three of the leaks, leading me to believe the OTA will be different as well. Glad it worked for you, feel free to ask away someone around here will be happy to help!

The clock color is controlled by services.jar. You need to edit smili. some of fonts are controlled by the xml files in the colors folder

You need to make your own images per pull the ones you like from the different themes. Replace the images in the framework

I've been using Z roms since the beginning, and now I am on Wes's. I've tried theming the statusbar and everything went well...except for 3g icons. 1x icons were themed, but for some reason 3g isn't changing. I went the extra mile and tried decompiling, changing icons, and recompiling to see if that works. The only thing that did was make 3g disappear completely lol. Has anyone here been able to change their 3g icons on a Z rom?
I have searched everywhere trying to find a way to change the signal bars. I want either the four bars like the dinc or the five bars that show up before they chnge to six. I tried metamorph but it wasn't working right for me. i just really hate the six bar look. I'm currently on mikfroyo 4.3 and really like everything about the rom and only want to change the signal bars everything else is perfect.
Try CM7? I am running it and I have a 4 bar signal icon...

You'll have to edit some PNGs in your framework. Although its not really 4 bars, it will just appear that way.
You can find the zip of your rom that you flashed, mikfroyo. Open it with WinRAR, or something similiar. Look in /system/framework/ for com.htc.resources.apk. Extract that to somewhere you will remember. Then open up that framework file with the same program you used above and look for drawable-hdpi. Look for the cmda radio signal pngs and swap in the ones you want. If you want to only use 4, then you can use the same signal for a few. Then put that drawable-hdpi folder back in the /system/framework directory from your ..resources.apk. This will overwrite the old one. Then push it with ADB. If you're not familiar there are a bunch of guides on xda here.
I have seen a couple themes (one of which I made a while back) for sense using the gingerbread status bar icons and those themes usually do the edit mentioned above to make it appear as 4 bars even though it is reporting more. I can easily whip this up for you if you need help, I just need to know exactly which ROM you are using.
Thanks for the replies. I have tried cm7 and I just can't get used to the stock android look. I just really like sense and the mikfroyo roms.
I am on mikfoyo v4.30. It would be awesome if you could help me out with that. I want to learn how to do the editing but I need to find a way to do it with my macbook.
How many does it have now and what color are they?
it has six bars and they are green
Im not running that ROM so I cant test the colors or look of it compared to the rest of the ROM but here is my best shot at it. Just flash that zip from the recovery screen and always make a nandroid backup first.

Man I really appreciate that brandnek that looks a 100% better than the 6 bars. It looks great it's exactly what i was wanting
Anyone with a zip for just signal bars in green?
Huh?
Need more info what rom this is for... what exactly are you talking about?.

I'm sorry , i'm on sleeper rom odex 2.03 , i'm looking to make my signal strength bars green , i cannot find instructions on how to do this and any files people normally list always change the 3g icon as well. Uot kitchen doesn't seem to change this on my phone. I found one file that changed it while leaving the 3g alone but it had other things changed that i don't want edited. Any help appreciated

UOT kitchen worms first. It doesn't add legendary era at all unless you based it off of the legendary rom framework...
In Soviet Epic forum, clockworkmod root you!
i tried uot kitchen, but i think there odex support is limited because it won't change the signal bar color. thanks
Hi guys.
I was just wondering about something. After flashing gummy 0.8.2 rom on my gnex, the internett connectivity icons in the status bar(mobile data+wifi) won't change color from grey to blue. Connectivity seems to be just fine.
Any ideas?
Thx
That's just the way the Nexus is for some reason. You can change the icons in SystemUI.apk so that they are blue when connected.

If you'd like I can walk you through changing out the icons. I'm running gummy as well and I did this about 2 weeks ago. lol. I used an app called ninjamorph from the market. Lets you navigate like a file explorer to swap out the images in any apk you'd like and even backs up the original if anything goes wrong or you decide to go back to the original. I set mine up so they're always blue when connected since I noticed that the radio fully connects fairly quick I didn't see a reason to have them grey first.
But is this rom spesific? Everything was normal when i used cm9 and modaco. Anyone else get this with gummy rom?

Assuming that the icons are properly displaying, it means that one or more of your Google services aren't fully synced. Grey means you're not fully connected to Google. Check things like background sync and Google talk.

It's a known issue on gummy. Everything connects fine.
Thank you guys, and as much as i appreciate the offer, a guide won't be necsesary.
