Hi,
I am trying to add my yahoo account at "mail" on evo.
After entering username and password it says : "Authentication failed. Please verity your usermane/password"
I am entering correct data, tried 100 times but no luck.
I can add my gmail and hotmail accounts but not yahoo.
I found an unsolved threat with same problem:

There's an app for that.
Doesn't help much with the mail apk, but it reads yahoo mail.
Just download the official yahoo mail app or k9 mail tool <- lets you view multiple accounts.

I had the same problem about a month ago and did this when setting up my yahoo account:
YAHOO IMAP
Incoming IMAP Mail ServerSetting :
User Name : [email protected]
Password : your email password
Incoming Mail Server : imap.n.mail.yahoo.com
Mail Box Name : Yahoo IMAP
Mail Box Type : IMAP
Security (Port) : Off
Port : Default
That should get you back up and running. This way you dont have to download an app, this will just work with stock mail. This will work cause I just did this this morning cause my yahoo wasnt working. Hope this helps.
I've had the same problem and I used the info from the post above but I had to change the incoming server settings for some reason.. I had to use android.imap.mail.yahoo.com... and I've also gotten it to work when I was on a different ROM by using imap.mobile.mail.yahoo.com.. So just try a few variations if the specific settings above dont work...

Thanks Adam1422
Incoming mail settings worked, had to google for outgoing server settings.
Outgoing server settings
[X] Login required
Username: [email protected]
Password: ******
SMTP server: android.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Security type: <none>
Server port: <default>
I did'nt want to download app from the market, stock app is perfect for me, still wondering why automatic setup did'nt work for yahoo.
Oh yeah, didn't work for me either, had to use yahoo mail app. I think it drains my battery though.
Swyped from my sexy EVO.

Try these settings they worked on mine
incoming:
Protocol - pop
put email address in and user name put email address in again
put in password
pop server - pop3.live.com
security type - SSL port 995
outgoing:
tick log in required
put email address in as username
put in password
smtp server - smtp.live.com
security type - TLS
server port - 587
Hey presto!!
I set my hotmail up the day I got my desire and it works perfectly. Shouldn't need to put any extra settings, just add email account and password which is recognised automatically. Just had to add one tick box to have items deleted from server now working fine.

On my hero I can go into settings and in the 'send & receive' settings I can change the download options and select how many days it should download. (you can select by number of days or by number e-mails, quite nice actually )

Yeah, this forum is great!
You can change the interval at the settings as well.
Btw, something else you can try is to let Gmail download the hotmail e-mails. But you cannot set the interval unfortunately. (You can set this up on your computer by going into the gmail settings, Accounts and Import settings, and then click on the 'import mail and contacts'. And then you have to finish a few steps to set it up.)
Too bad it's not instant like gmail though.
I now forward my main e-mail account to my gmail. This way I don't need the interval pop3 checking and I get my e-mail directly via the gmail push. Great stuff!
Unfortunately this is not possible with hotmail, you can only forward to other hotmail/live adresses. Unless you use the paid version of hotmail, then it's possible I believe (not sure).
But! For everything else it's great!
Create a folder/label, setup a filter and everything is nicely categorized as well
The gmail app is a bit more basic however.. different from the htc e-mail application for sure. Oh, and the standard gmail icon doesn't show the number of unread e-mails, so for that you need to get a widget called 'Gmail Unread Count'.
So i've just picked up the desire, have setup hotmail but it's only pop, is there no imap support? I don't fancy having to manually mark something as read each time...
Hi all,
I got my Desire yesterday. It is a gorgeous device, but has one fatal flaw. The POP/IMAP manual e-mail setup in HTC mail is not working.
Gmail or Hotmail work fine - there is no need for a manual setup, the phone does it for you.
But Yahoo, or any other custom mail does not work. When setting up the incoming and outgoing mail server, the phone gets stuck at the incoming mail server setting and doesn't advance to the outgoing server setting as it should.
After you set up the incoming mail server you hit next and the phone checks online and a popup says "Verifying account settings". After this is done, I believe it should advance to outgoing server settings, but it doesn't and gets stuck at the incoming server settings screen...
This is a very fatal mistake and problem - one of the main functions of a smartphone not working...
Can you guys see if it works for you - maybe its only my unit that is faulty?

I got it set it up on my University IMAP fine, I had this issue but just had to change the security type to TSL.
Unfortunately that doesn't work for me...
It is very weird, as the same settings worked with K-9 mail app without any issues...
I got the same issue so I use K-9 Mail instead (which I prefer since it seems to push my emails faster)
I can't get it to sign in to gmail. I have a @googlemail account, and it just fails to verify account information every time. All other mail accounts, Hotmail and proper POP3, work fine.
That's cause you use the Gmail app for Googlemail, not the normal mail app

I prefer to use the HTC mail widget. Anyway, I got the thing going now, by connecting via imap instead.
I'm in touch with HTC customer service and we're trying to figure out what is wrong. I'll set up a test account for them so that they can test it and see why the e-mail is not being set-up. Will update later...
i set up gmail as an exchange server.. Only done it half hour ago but it should be push now
I'm also having this same issue. (Trying to use SSL.)
Anyone manage to made Yahoo Mail wotking on IMAP? I have an YahooPlus account and I can connect using a WM device, but no chance with Desire [using the same settings as in WN device]. On Desire, it stuck on first step - setting of incoming IMAP mail server, saying each time "wrong username/pw"....

Not IMAP but with POP3, yep. Works flawlessly.
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Has anyone sorted this out ? I've having the same issue with the imap setup on my desire. Very frustrating after shelling out for this thing.
Cheers
Have you tried using the stock Android mail app which can be found here:
http://rhedgehog.com/apk/email.apk
I prefer this to the HTC Sense mail app and its much more flexible/configurable during the set-up phase, I had problems with my Uni account swapped to this and no problems since then using IMAP, POP and SMTP
I also have difficulties getting IMAP+SSL to work with the HTC mail application.
I suspect it has something to do with the certificate. The server I'm trying to connect to doesn't have a verified certificate, and you don't get prompted to accept the certificate, as you do if you use the K-9 mail app.

I had same kind of problems with Hero after upgrading to android 2.1.
Problem seems to be related to setup procedure. It is not able to prompt certificate acceptance dialog. But if you setup account with address that is not existing or where is not imaps service running it will say that it can't verify account but you are able to continue. After creating account launch mail application, go to settings and put real server name. At this point it will prompt certificate acceptance dialog and after that it is working.
I of course had the same trouble on my Aria but managed to get it working by following these instructions:
first open mail.
enter manual setup.
INCOMING:
as for settings:
protocol: Imap
Email: [email protected]
user name: youraccount
password: your password
IMAP server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
security type: none
server port:143
OUTGOING:
login required is checked
user name: youraccount
password: your password
SMTP server: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
security type: none
server port: 587
NOTE: if it still wont let you set up incoming server, try first entering in a non-existent server. such as imap.mail.yahoo.commm or something. it will give you an error message but hit continue. NOT OK! from there set up outgoing correctly.
then exit.
then launch mail app and select that account. click menu-more-settings-account settings and enter the correct server address.
hopefully this works for you guys as it did for me.
--Edit--
forgot to add, if possible, make sure wifi is off.
also, I have discovered that htc mail wont log in unless you are SIGNED OUT of your yahoo account everywhere else. i had my laptop automatically loading yahoo's web pasge and i guess it was messing it up. so sign out of yahoo mail before closing your browser.
hope this helps.
sent my yahoo and my talktalk account up on my phone..fine!
HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had to do this on my WiFi as it would not connect over 3G...
I am trying to add my yahoo account to my phone and it keeps telling me that it cant verify the username and password? When I log on from my pc it works just fine. Any suggestions?
EDIT - I was having a problem with the email app force closing everytime I tried to delete an email so I cleared cache and data and am now trying to resetup my email addresses and MSN worked fine but yahoo wont!
Is your yahoo account setup to allow pop access or external access or whatever they call it? I haven't used yahoo in a long time but I remember that I used to have to explicitly allow external programs to access it. It was in the yahoo mail settings menu somewhere.
Reboot the phone,and than
try again. This helps me

YAHOO IMAP
Incoming IMAP Mail ServerSetting :
User Name : [email protected]
Password : your email password
Incoming Mail Server : imap.n.mail.yahoo.com
Mail Box Name : Yahoo IMAP
Mail Box Type : IMAP
Security (Port) : Off
Port : Default
Working for me!
I have searched and searched, tried and tried, but cannot get my yahoo email on my phone. What can I do? I have not had any luck at all. Where can I find step by step instructions? Thanks in advance.
incoming email server:
winmo.imap.mail.yahoo.com:993:1
outgoing server
winmo.smtp.mail.yahoo.com:465:1
When you setup the yahoo account, click the manual server setup button or whatever its called and put these in there.
Which country are you in?
I just entered my email address and password, it pulled the settings from yahoo. Why do you need to manually set it up?

ahh, ok. good to know the servers.
Also if your on the paid version of Yahoo mail, use the plus.
Yahoo Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - pop.mail.yahoo.com
Yahoo Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Yahoo Plus Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com
Yahoo Plus Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) - plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
I am located in the USA. I have AT&T service. I upgraded from windows mobile 6.5 in which I had the same problem. I just learned to deal with it with the 6.5 but now as I am paying all this money each month I want what I pay for and I can't get my Yahoo email then I don't feel that I should have to pay.
I put these in exactly as they are here, but I still get an error.

Why do you want to use POP mail when WP7 already supports IMAP for Yahoo mail? BTW, Yahoo already fixed their IMAP server so data usage should not be a problem anymore.

Hmm....I'm not sure. I haven't had any issues with my Yahoo setup the 3 times I've done it. Try removing the account, restarting your phone, and going through the setup again. If that doesn't work, when you go to add an account, go to "add other" and try it that way. Other than that, I'm not sure why it isn't working.
I found the problem! After calling AT&T, Yahoo, & LG, I found the problem! I had a space in my password. I changed my password online and put the new password on the phone and it worked! So take note of this:

Interesting. Very suprised yahoo would let you use a space in your password, most won't.
Glad you got it figured out.
I just snatched a outlook email, and I was trying to sync it to the native email client and for reason it doesn't work. Has anyone else had this problem?

Oh yes, I spent over an hour online trying to make that work, and even called up my school's tech support desk. No luck.
I tried on the droid email app, another one I can't remember, and k-9. I couldn't make it work. I eventually synced it to my gmail, tagged all the mail coming in TO that address into it's own folder with a filter to bypass inbox, they have settings and whatnot for all that, you'll also be able to send email as that email address without logging into outlook. I haven't tried that last part on the native, I've just been using k9. It's like I have two separate email addresses in one app,
I have a hot mail alias still in outlook dunno if it matters but I used under domain \[email protected] and for server m.hotmail.com which the email app changed to snt-m.hot mail.com.
Also this is configured as exchange.
Anyhow its working.
ok, here is the solution.....
Add email account
First type in your new renamed email address : emailaddress @outlook . com and password : your password.
Hit next and select POP.
Now follow the settings below.
Incoming settings:
username: emailaddress @ outlook . com
password: your password
pop3 server: pop3.live.com
port: 995
security type: SSL/TLS
Delete email from server: never
Outgoing Settings:
SMTP Server: smtp.live.com
Port: 587
Security Type: STARTTLS
Require Sign-in: YES
Username: same as username above
Password: same as above
VOILA !!!!
hit "thanks" if it works.., its free
