I've been using the one that comes with gginggerbread 6. It's surprisingly smooth considering my phone usually doesn't like bfs kernels
For CM7 RC1 I use the .7 savaged-zen cfs havs kernel
For CM7 RC1 with WiMax [gingerbread 6], have to use the provided .37 kernel
I personally have been using the 0.0.5-0.0.9 Savage.zen kernal BFS HAVS SBC kernal with either CM7 RC1 CM7 RC1 + WiMax

No issues? Every time I try to use the kernel, my handcent force closes on me. Dx
using the 0.0.9...phones been on for 2 days 1 hour and 49 minutes
using the sprint extended battery, still at 45%

not a single force close. Been using the WiMax GB since it came out and have been using the savage.zen kernal since. I dk, but my phone seems to like BFS over CFS aswell. It will work will CFS but I get better battery life with BFS.
went from 32% battery to 18% in 1 day and 8 hours with this setup. I also have SetCPU set to Salvage.Zen

yeah when I flash a new rom, i wipe cache, delvik, boot, system, data, .android_secure.
boot the room, reboot to recovery, wipe cache and delvik and anroid secure, then flash the kernal, then boot, then reboot to recovery and wipe cache and delvik, and reboot and have fun.

Yea, I normally do too, so I'll have fun.
I have been using the kernal packaged with CM7 and its been doing great. So well in fact I have been reluctant to try another one.

The toast kernel works great for me, better than the packaged kernel since I had slow 3G with that one, but cell standby is showing up as high percentage on the battery usage and I'm not getting the WiMax control settings.

I find that a lil' awkward since you're running a sense kernel on an aosp rom...but more power to ya.
I have started using the latest savaged and I am getting amazing battery life.

I reflash to odin, root with the new one click, wipe data, cache and dalvik, flash SRF, after a few hours it will freeze with a black screen and I have to pop the battery to re-boot. I've tried wiping 3 times, turning journaling on, etc. Every non-asop rom eventually freezes on me, however, miui and cm7 never have that problem? Looking for suggestions and and aswser as to why the aosp roms never have the same issue. Any other rom freezes with in 24 hours, cm7 and miui have never froze on me.

And are you overclocked?
I wish i knew cause as soong as my phone goes into standby, it wont come back on. i even changed the voltage settings like recomended..its a over clocked kernal but i dont overclock the settings at all
I'm not overclocked, just flashed the genocide kernel to see if that makes any difference. So what steps should I take? What I did was
Odin to stock eb13
Ota update to ec05
New clockwork mod
Wiped data, cache, and dalvik
Flashed SRF

Most new roms backup data and they dont like it when u wipe data before the flash...and cm7 and miui dont do this so maybe thats why your getting freezes.
Simply AOSP dosen't, and I've had the same problem on there. Someone on craigslist needs to just trade an evo for my epic so I can get full cm7 goodness, ha ha

I'm very impatient, ha ha. Right now I'm odining the EC05 stock plus tha's pre-rooted, then Im gonna let it sit for 5, boot recovery, and flash SRF with out wiping, well see how that works. I had my hopes up because it seemed that the new CWM might have fixed my issues, but alas, no.
It sucks, my choices are
Stock, and super slow with everything working
CM7 or MIUI, super fast with out mms, gps or cam (on cm7)
or Everyother rom, fast, but have to pull my battery 5 times a day

I'm talking about true stock. I use your odin tar as a starting point seeing as how its pre-rooted. Honestly have never given it a try as a daily driver, if SRF freezes after flashing and not wiping, I may have to give it a try.
Yours is the EC05 plus pre-rooted with no CIQ right?

Don't worry. This whole thread makes no sense unless the OP means that CM7 is the only ROM that does not freeze.
The Epic has no other AOSP ROM that I am aware of. I guess even the stock ROMs freeze for the OP.

I'm wondering if you are using any cpu control apps? Setcpu? Pimp my cpu? Voltage control?
And/or any ram mamaging apps like auto memory manager?
I would suggest after you get on srf 1.1.1, get setcpu, do a quick auto detect on there, and change settings to conservative 200 min 1000 max, see if that helps, make sure you do NOT have both voltage control and setcpu installed.
Auto memory manager will also interfere with the ram tweaks in srf that's why I included that

@prodigy
CM7 and MIUI are both aosp, neither of those freeze, neither does a stock odin flash, any custom rom freezes.
@dr
I'm not using voltage control or setcpu, but I am using an auto task killer. Could that be the issue? And why is it only on non-aosp roms that I have this problem. Never had a bad flash with miui or cm7, and evey custom rom always freezes after trying everything.

So I just flashed Decks which has a Cyan kernel. For some reason my phone doesn't seem to like when I try and flash anything that doesn't come with the ROM I flash.
I've tried multiple AOSP ones that support undervolting, no dice; will not even boot.
I clear cache before every attempt, no dice.
Any suggestions?

I'm not a 100% on what you said but if your trying to under volt an aosp kernel you can try sz 2.2.1 or tiamat they are the only 2 I use because I use the sbc versions but like I said I'm not that clear on what your question was.

Wow, re-reading my post I see autocorrect didn't do me any favors.
I've tried both SZ and Tiamat and I can't get either of them to run on my phone. After clearing cache I flash either of them and if I remember right SZ never gets past the white HTC screen before rebooting and Tiamat (if I'm lucky) will start to load my ROM before just locking my phone up.
It's important to clear cache and dalvik cache before flashing a new kernel. I use SZ 2.2.1 with CMod ... works great with interactive x governor. I don't undervolt, simply use 245/998, and haven't had any issues at all. Might give it a try ... good luck.
Try wiping cache & dalvik again after flashing the kernel. You can also try different versions, perhaps the versions of Tiamat & SZ that you used just don't like your phone.
Also, if you have SetCPU set to "set on boot", uncheck that option before flashing a new kernel.

I do clear both. I reboot the phone and it either never loads the ROM or starts to load the ROM and locks up.

Tried wiping after kernel install, no dice. And I don't have "set on boot" checked.
Grrr, I don't get why my phone doesn't like flashing kernels. Maybe I'll move to a different recovery and try...
Tried RA - no dice. Now rather than locking up the phone just reboots constantly. That was Tiamat, going to try SZ...
I flashed tiamat kernel 4.1.0 at the same time i flashed decks new evo gingerbread rom. And its been working pretty good but its been freezing occasionally and also getting some force closes with youtube then rebooting. I'd like to try decks with the original kernel before i just go back to CM7. Should i just reflash the rom? Do i need to do a full wipe first?

My favorite right now is MIUI. I have found it to be very stable. It's an AOSP ROM, so it's already fast, and the Theming engine is top notch. I also love the fact that we see weekly updates. If there is a small hiccup one week, you can bet it will be fixed by the next. No 4G, but I don't live in a 4G area. I just use the stock kernel but there seems to be good success with both of the last two Tiamat releases. Downloads are at miui.us. Well worth a try!

I think you should be good for the most part. I've always used Amon Ra, it is extremely reliable in formatting and flashing and partitioning and all the good stuff. And it has support for both Amend and Edify scripting, while TWRP only has Edify support. Amend is older, but some people still use it.
But as long as TWRP works for you, use it by all means

Cyanogenmod and most other AOSP ROMs usually have built-in options in settings so SetCPU would be unnecessary. On MIUI and Sense ROMs, then you would need SetCPU, which I do use

Just to add to this, to further improve battery life try to underclock it, use like the conservative governor, and also undervolt with incredicontrol (app) or vipermod (script) o_0
I have used over 10 ROMs and all had their pros and cons. The one I found had the best battery life AND performance (this is what I use now):
Rom: EVO Deck 1.3 (flashed with google apps obviously)
Kernel: SalvagedZen 2.2.1 CFS + HAVS
Extras:
CoD supersonic tweaking 1.2 (speed things up for multitasking + battery life increase)
AdFree (for no ads)
LauncherPro as my launcher
Backup apps with titanium backup. Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache, boot, and system. Flash EVO Deck, then Gapps, then kernel. Boot it up and go through the setup process, but don't sign in to anything yet. Leave it for 10 minutes then reboot. Go to market and install launcherpro, adfree, titanium backup, and the apps needed for the CoD tweaking. Do the Cod tweaking and set up adfree. Reboot for those to take effect. Now restore you're apps and you're done!

If u are concerned about battery u should be wipeing/callibrateing every time u flash, you can do this by 1. Charge completely, 2. Wipe batterystats.bin file in amon ra, and POWER PHONE OFF, DO NO REBOOT! Let it charge till the orange light turns green, 3, unplug before you turn on, 4, leave on till dies, do not plug in. 5, charge to 100%, do not unplug, done!
I suggest u do this directly after ur first successfull boot after flashing

Im running cm-nightlies 256 coupled with tiamat 3.3.7 no sbc and running the ram script. Not vipermods scripts. Apps keep freezing and forceclosing and some even cause my phone to reboot. Its a completely clean install for the rom. Everything was wiped multiple times. Then had a clean flash with the kernel. Any ideas what might be causing it?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Alright since you wiped it I would say its because the kernel and scripts. try getting rid of them bro and see if it helps if not flash a different version of cm because the nighties are not always stable
Fix permissions in recovery or ROM Manager.

Boot to recovery Wipe cache and dalvik 3x each, fix permissions(uid mismatches) under advanced menu, wipe cache and dalvik again, reboot if that doesnt fix it flash the rc of cm7.2 as it's more stable than the nightlys and if u upgrade to 7.2 change your kernel to tiamat 4.1.0 I found it plays better with cm7.2 than 3.3.7 does
