Desire HD - Orange Branded (GSM)
Recently rooted, downgraded ROM to stock 1.35 and since doing so the SIM is no longer detected.
Installed multiple ROMS (including official) which has not resolved the problem - completed a Radio update to 26.04.02.17, still not cured.
Any suggestions/solutions I'd be grateful to hear...
Additionally if anyone believes this could have been caused by an IMEI corruption - any way to fix without returning the phone?
Just to note also the following settings are enabled and I've not yet tried a reversal: Radio S-OFF, SuperCID & SimUnlock
SIM works ok in Galaxy Tab
You may want to try putting a different SIM in your phone to see if it is detected. If it is, then maybe there's something with your current one that causes incompatibility.
Also, have you tried removing the battery to do a "cold" boot?

Hi, sometimes SIM does not sit properly in the SIM holder in DHD itself. So make sure that your SIM is properly inserted and see if that helps.
Did you flash RADIO properly? I mean were there any errors?
MonsieurD - thank you for your reply.
A cold boot - would this be booting the phone whilst USB is connected with the battery removed?

sphuyal - thank you also for your prompt reply.
I did not receive any errors whilst flashing the radio, would you suggest trying a previous radio to the current one in use? If so can you point me in the right direction to a website.
Furthermore - what I have noted from reading other forums etc. is that perhaps I should flash the radio first prior to flashing ROM to ensure compatability any views on this would be great.

Well flashing radio after installing custom roms would not be a problem. Which ROM you are using and what is the version of the radio? (if you flashed the one the dev mentioned in his thread then it is ok).
This is a brilliant guide on flashing radio: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896597
Did you try taking out your sim and putting it back in? Sometimes reboot helps...
I've followed the information provided here:
wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Desire_HD:_Full_Update_Guide
Radio Version: 26.04.02.17
1.32.405.6 Firmware
Tried taking out the SIM and reinserting with no joy.
I'm going to try your previous link tonight and will keep you updated along the way.
I followed your guide. Radio flash initially failed, after disabling Eng-OFF it was successful with no errors.
The SIM however is still not being detected - if this was to be a problem due to rooting do you believe its reversible and furthermore me using Z4Root could this be the problem?
Loggsie
I've since established inserting the SIM the correct way around helps drastically!

[UPDATE] Fixed using method 2 in the link in post #4. Thanks a lot!!
Hi everyone, new to the forum and in need of some help please
I have a new Desire from T-Mobile UK. Branded and I assume locked, not rooted.
I attempted to debrand my phone by doing the following.
1. I already had Android SDK and HTC Sync.
2. I made a GoldCard following the unlockr instructions "how-to-create-a-goldcard" (not allowed to post link as am new forum user).
3. I ran an RRU from the pinned ROMS topic in this forum, which was RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
The flash completed with no errors.
Afterwards, the phone appears to boot up but the screen remains completely black at all times. I have tried everything I can think of, and have seen absolutely nothing on the screen at all since flashing. Pure black not even backlight.
What I have observed is:
1. On power-up, the vibration and welcome sound.
2. The hardware buttons illuminate. They time out and go off, and they illuminate again when pressed.
3. On inserting a freshly formatted SD card and turning on, waiting ages, turning off (remove battery), removing card, then viewing in a card reader, Android has added some folders to the card (.footprints, LOST.DIR, rssreader) so obviously it is booting up to some degree.
4. On attempting to flash another ROM, the tool reports the "From image version" to be 1.21.405.2 which is the one I flashed earlier, not the phone's original version.
5. Phone no longer shows up in "adb devices" when connected, although this may be simply because USB debugging isn't enabled, or because the phone will be at its start-up introduction screens.
6. There is network activity after a while, indicated by the interference on my PC's speakers.
What I have tried to do to fix:
1. Numerous reboots removing battery, SD, SIM etc.
2. Flashed the WWE 1.21 ROM again, which succeeded, but didn't fix the problem.
3. Attempted to flash the WWE 1.15 ROM RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_122704.exe which failed with "ERROR [140]: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR. The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone. Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again."
4. Attempted to flash the T-Mobile 1.5 ROM RUU_Bravo_TMO_UK_1.15.110.11_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_122755.exe which failed with the same error.
5. Flashed the T-mobile 1.21 ROM, which succeeded, but didn't fix the problem, and has made it slightly worse in that I don't get the welcome sound at power-on any more. I still get the vibration, the lights, the network activity, and the black screen.
6. Tried with another SD card, no difference.
Before I started debranding at all, I took a photo of the software versions screen as supplied by t-mobile, which showed as follows.
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 32.41.00.32U_4.08.00.09
Kernel version
2.6.29-3cb3dfbf
htc-kernel{at}and18-2 #1
Build number 1.15.110.11 CL155070 release-keys
Software number: 1.15.110.11
Browser version: WebKit 3.1
(replace {at} with the email at symbol, new forum members aren't allowed to post these)
So in summary, I probably have the WWE 1.21 ROM working on my phone, but the screen doesn't work so I can't see it, and re-flashing doesn't work so I can't try a different ROM.
I'm a noob to debranding but am a programmer and Android app developer so feel free to get a little bit technical
Any help you can give is greatly appreciated! Hopefully I won't have to explain this to the T-Mobile support people!
Thanks!
Hi. Sorry to hear you having trouble, I'm not too sure. But sounds to me like its a display issue? You may have a Desire with the new cheaper display, not a amoled.screen? Think I remember reading in the forums blank screens and issues with roms. (please check other treads)
The good news is I think its recoverable. Sorry. I can't be of mote help.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Thanks for the reply,
I had a better search around and found showthread.php?t=747393 which describes apparently the same problem, although I haven't messed with bootloaders. It was fixed by installing the OTA update blind by pressing buttons in the right order.
It is indeed possible I have a different screen type, or perhaps a different model of AMOLED, does anyone know how to tell the difference? I do notice the screen is more reflective than my G1, which I think is associated with AMOLEDs, but that might just be down to 2 yrs of wear and tear.
Anyway, I will try it now let you know how I get on!
Thanks!
As above you have a Desire with an SLCD screen.
You will have a HBOOT of 0.83 or 0.92 - You need a rooting and/or debranding guide for those HBOOTs. The current guides only work for HBOOT 0.80 and lower.
Here is your fix for your current problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748498&highlight=brick+fix+SLCD
I couldn't get the pressing buttons blindly method to work, but method 2 from dickenz's link worked a treat.
It gave me WWE Android 2.1, and I immediately got the OTA update to Froyo, WOOHOO!
Can I suggest we create a section in the pinned ROM topic listing RRUs and OTAs compatible with the new screens? That'll make it more obvious to new visitors.
Thanks for your help both of you, I'll stay around the forums!
Hi guys,
I've just rooted the AMOLED HTC Desire (Branded, Simlocked, Orange FR) with the following version:
- HBOOT: 0.75
- Radio : 32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11
- Firmware version : 1.15
So i have few questions:
- Do i need to update radio to use with froyo ?
- Which radio should i use to remove simlock ?
- Is there any combination of radio + hboot would brick my Desire ?
- Any suggestion on cooked froyo i should use ?
Thank you very much
- no you dont need to upgrade your radio to use froyo, just to use the hd video recording
- you cant remove a simlock with a radio lol
- radio and hboot dont interact with eachother so i doubt it
- everyone seems to use leedroid these days, i like nextsence tho both roms are pretty awsome tho
@AndroHero: Thank you for you quick reply. But i seached forum, and found that each version of firmware does required a specific radio version. And my radio is quite obsolete. I doubt that froyo requires a higher radio version.
They also mentioned that if radio and hboot is not compatible with each other, my phone will be bricked.
And i'm afraid of upgrading to froyo will also upgrade radio and hboot which leads to loosing rooting capability.

i have used froyo with the stock radio i got with my desire, only problem was camcorder crashed, i have the same hboot version as you and used every radio under the sun with no problems, if you flash a custom rom, they will not come with a radio or hboot upgrade so dont worri about that
@AndroHero: I do see the newest version of LeeDroid do require new radio and they said i need a unlock code("Orange users may need an unlock code.")
I don't have a unlock code, but i still use an orange simcard. Is it ok ?

no orange users need to buy a sim unlock code to sim unlock your desire before you can flash a new radio, otherwise you will get network locked ( meaning you cant use the network, phone, internet ect ), after you have sim unlocked your desire you can continue to use your orange sim as usuall but you need to sim unlock your phone
@AndroHero: So said . Is there anyway so that i can update to froyo without upgrade radio ? I see most cooked roms need updated radio to work.
Anyway, if i want update radio, is there anyway to backup current radio and restore later ? Nandroid seems not to be eable to do that

there is a thread the top of the development section with all the radio's, just take a note of your radio and then download it again if nessessary like i said before as far as i know (and have tried) froyo will work with the old radio's just some of the functions will crash like camcorder, when the first htc froyo rom was leaked we had no new radio so everyone used it with the ones they had

Thank you guys, i will cross my fingers and do a radio update tonight
Old (4.x) radios are not supported with froyo. It may seem to work, but you will end up with problems, and devs will usually refuse to offer any support if you have an old radio.
Some custom roms will flash the radio as well.
I answered all this on MoDaCo this morning...
I've just updated radio to the newest, but the download speed seems never reach 0.5mbps, uplad is 1.6 mbps.I tried with iphone 4 (with the same sim card),it can reach 4mbps for download and 2mbps upload easily. Any idea ?

also i've herd people get past the radio problem by doing the update without the sim card in the phone. and then inserting it in.
they might be talking BS, but it might be fact. best thing to do is unlock the handset anyways

Have you checked your APN settings?
hi,i realized the problem is from the operator. There are 3 access point, and only one of them allows me connecting at max speed. "Orange Internet" is suck. Use "Orange World" instead.
Hi! I am in your same situation. I have a Orange branded Desire. Finally, did you update the radio without need SIM unlock?
Thanks
Yes, I CONFIRM that you can update it without simlock.
Hi,
I bought a HTC desire locked to orange. I rooted it and upgraded the radio to the latest one and then flashed OpenDesire 2.6.0 only to find that I get a message asking me to enter the simlock pin.
So I bought the simlock pin. This works fine, however after a messages stating that I was succesfull nothing happens. there's a warning sim notification on the top corner of my screen but when I expand the notification bar there is no message. The phone still hasn't registered/acknowledged my sim card though (I cannot make calls etc).
Am I doing things in the wrong order?
Please help.
Thanks,
Craig

Yes, orange UK. I'm just trying a different ROM as we speak (DeFroST_3.1)
Those radios have been ok with Orange branded phones so far. Did you let the phone boot after you flashed your radio before you installed the custom ROM?
I would try flashing the latest 2.1 generic RUU (goldcard required). Apparently there are problems trying to sim unlock a phone on some non-stock ROMs.

I understand what a gold card is etc....but why is it needed again here?
I thought the gold card pretty much allowed you to boot into recovery and then flash a rom?
I will try the following first:
1)wipe / clear cache's
2) flash radio and reboot
3)flash rom
This is what I SHOULD be doing right?
When you first updated the radio did you boot into your Orange software? If so, I take it there was no request for a sim unlock code then?
Without a goldcard you can't flash using an RUU (there are no branded Orange ones).
You could also try installing a custom pre-rooted froyo ROM.

I don't think there was a request for simlock. Instead it just rejected the sim.
Oh right....why do I want an RUU? I'm sure I'm missing something here.....My phone's already rooted....I just want a custom rom on here eg. open desire...

Ahh ok. So I apply the RUU rom and unlock....then re-root etc and I won't need to unlock again?
That's what I'd try.
OK, thanks alot mate
Just a quick update. I've flashed RUU and then sim unlock has worked perfectly. I'm now going to root and try a custom rom again. If this fails I guess I'm stuck with RUU = stuck with sense = no wii remote
You will need to update the radio again for the latest roms.
Hi,
I have tried several ROMs on my desire but none of them is working perfectly.
The only rom that somehow makes it possible to work is dj-droid
Leedroid and Chinese rom kept on crashing
The phone keeps crashing if I use it to much. (run a demanding app like waze or o game)
It even crashed when I use the internet for too long.
All of this made me come to a conclusion that there is something wrong with the hardware (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong)
Now I want to get my phone to his stock condition.
I know that I need to download something called a RUU file.
I found this thread, but I can’t figure which ROM should I D\L.
I suppose it should be something marked as WWE and the numbers are the radio version.
From what I can see my radio version is 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 (found in setting-> about phone -> Software information Baseband version) is it really the radio or I’m looking at the wrong place?
Can I use any RUU file is there a specific RUU should I D\L because in the thread I found the highs radio version is 32.30.00. If I need a specific ROM can some please point to the right direction.
Also I’ll be happy is some will explain to me what are the steps to install the RUU file, or is it same thing as installing a custom ROM ?
Please feel free to throw any other suggestions that might help to set my desire to it’s proper condition.
Thank in advance
Mark
P.S
I had froyo 2.2 and my HBOOT is 0.93.001
In order to return to stock, just connect the phone to the pc and run the RUU (it's just an exe file). The latest OFFICIAL European rom is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=828519
That will upgrade HBOOT and Radio, you really need that. In case you'll need to get root access, just download unrevoked (google it), but remember to uninstall HTC Sync in case you have it installed before running it.
After rooting, just reflash the rom of your choice and keep the new radio, just don't change it, it's superb.
Hint: before flashing any rom on top of each other, remember to wipe cache, dalvik cache, and user data, so you won't get any crash.
To restore data I suggest MyBackup Pro, gives less issues than Titanium Backup.
You need a gold card to flash anything other than the one that originally came with the phone. Radio is irrelevent

Radio is responsible of many crashes: an old radio not compatible with the camera app gives FCs.
Why would he need a goldcard if he already rooted?? To go back to stock just enter in the bootloader, select fastboot, connect via usb, start the RUU and you're done.
Thanks,
I'll try the attched RUU and update with the result.
BTW
is the there posibility i'll brik my phone during this procedure ?
Oh and i anderstand that i need a goldcard only if my phone is/was branded.
Ok, I managed to restore the phone but after the installation it entered to a boot loop.
I let the phone rest for 2 or 3 minutes and it started up perfectly.
I suspect that if I'll stress my it's get too hot and crushes.
Any suggestion how can I confirm this theory ?
How did you get it out that boot loop? Resting? Did you take out the battery or smth?
Yes,
I had to to that several time before the phone started to work.

If the OP has a branded phone and wants to flash a stock unbranded RUU you need a gold card. Radio is irrelevent in the flashing of an RUU as you get the correct radio for the ROM included in it
I am just asking because I am trying to flash the Rooted , A2SD+ version of this ROM and after flash it just keeps looping (when the little green android logo appears and the phone vibrates) and does that on and on and on. Maybe I have to wait more.
Which ROM have you come from? IF it wasn't a Sense-based ROM you'll have to do a full wipe before booting

I came from exactly this one (latest OTA). It was rooted and as clockwork recovery did not work , I flashed Amonra. I did a full wipe, I formatted the SD card and then partitioned it, I did everything from scrap. I am almost certain I am missing astep or smth. Phone shows S-ON, maybe amonra doesnt get read of Security...?? I am not very good at this stuff, but any other ROM I flash works, except for the latest OTA (rooted and with A2SD- there is a post here on the forum containing it).
OR you mean a full wipe AFTER flashing, and before the first boot??
Chapter 2 – Return of the Desire
Hi again
First of all I want to thank you all for your assistance I had no problem to activate the warranty.
It seems that the constant reboot issue was a know issue of the A8181 series so my original phone was sent to HTC.
Finely I got the phone back and according to what I've been told it's a new device.
When I tried to use the phone I noticed that the APN settings were not transformed from the SIM card to the phone
(did not had that problem before I shipped the phone).
I tried to ran the RUU I used before and It seemed like I'm also going to gain an upgrade from 2.10.405.2 to 2.29.405.2 .
With a heart full of joy I'm pressing the next button and when the status bar reaches the "updating signature" I get the " Error [131] customer ID" error.
Noting I do seems to help fixing the problem.
I managed to root the phone, I flashed the LeeDroid rom, but i still can't run the RUU.
Any suggestions how do I fix the problem ?
I don't think my phone is branded as I bought an online store and from my provider.
Thanks in advance

nope,
can't access it at all
I think that's your problem then.
Have tried removing it, cleaning the contacts etc?

I think i messed the card in the proccess of making it a GC
The phone keeps telling me that it's sage to remove it
I dont have this problem when i insert my ap2sd card
try reformatting / remaking your goldcard.

Hello.
Im trying to SIM Unlock a friends One M8. I've done everything i believe i need to be able to sim unlock it using this guide:
http://www.sieempi.eu/blog/2011/09/22/universal-sim-unlock-for-s-offed-htc-devices-536
And this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708567
I've gotten S-off, super cid, and installed a recovery. But when following the guide in the first link and tapping Sim-lock in the hboot menu i get the messages as you can see in the screenshot ( where you can also see im s-off and with super cid), pressing Vol up seems to do something and reboot the phone, but the device still seems sim locked, as it is showing a "Limited service" when other branded sim cards have been inserted.
Can some of you guys help me out, from what i might have missed ?
EDIT: I figured out that if i downgraded my HBOOT to 3.16 it seems that the sim unlock is partially removed. I now get signal, and data working, but when trying to make any calls i get a "OUT OF SERVICE AREA" message.
Still struggling with this. I've heard that its dependent on my H-boot version, but i'm not sure if mine is the right version or not
OUT OF SERVICE AREA message when trying to call
Hello
Im having some trouble with a mates M8. When he tries to make any calls, he gets a OUT OF SERVICE AREA message and the call is disconnected. If i try to call him, it reaches voicemail. Data on his phone is working fine, and he has strong signal.
Reboot has been tried as well as a factory reset. He is running on stock rom, but the device has S-OFF, and unlocked boot loader.
Can you help us ?

Try downgrading all the firmware files (not just hboot) and even an old ROM; as the radio in particular may be hindering the SIM unlock.
But also be aware that playing with hboot and radio is slightly risky. One of the few ways to really brick the phone.

Ahh, too bad. I know HTC has made multiple changes over time (including hardware changes) to plug the firewater s-off exploit. Maybe they made some hardware change to plug the SIM unlock method as well?
