[Q] Need help sim unlocking a M8 - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
Im trying to SIM Unlock a friends One M8. I've done everything i believe i need to be able to sim unlock it using this guide:
http://www.sieempi.eu/blog/2011/09/22/universal-sim-unlock-for-s-offed-htc-devices-536
And this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708567
I've gotten S-off, super cid, and installed a recovery. But when following the guide in the first link and tapping Sim-lock in the hboot menu i get the messages as you can see in the screenshot ( where you can also see im s-off and with super cid), pressing Vol up seems to do something and reboot the phone, but the device still seems sim locked, as it is showing a "Limited service" when other branded sim cards have been inserted.
Can some of you guys help me out, from what i might have missed ?
EDIT: I figured out that if i downgraded my HBOOT to 3.16 it seems that the sim unlock is partially removed. I now get signal, and data working, but when trying to make any calls i get a "OUT OF SERVICE AREA" message.

Still struggling with this. I've heard that its dependent on my H-boot version, but i'm not sure if mine is the right version or not

OUT OF SERVICE AREA message when trying to call
Hello
Im having some trouble with a mates M8. When he tries to make any calls, he gets a OUT OF SERVICE AREA message and the call is disconnected. If i try to call him, it reaches voicemail. Data on his phone is working fine, and he has strong signal.
Reboot has been tried as well as a factory reset. He is running on stock rom, but the device has S-OFF, and unlocked boot loader.
Can you help us ?

Try downgrading all the firmware files (not just hboot) and even an old ROM; as the radio in particular may be hindering the SIM unlock.
But also be aware that playing with hboot and radio is slightly risky. One of the few ways to really brick the phone.

I have installed a bundle through hboot with a 0P6BIMG.zip file.. This seems to have downgraded everything to the oldest firmware. It is running 1.54 now with Android 4.4.2 and a baseband version of 1.16. Still no luck

Ahh, too bad. I know HTC has made multiple changes over time (including hardware changes) to plug the firewater s-off exploit. Maybe they made some hardware change to plug the SIM unlock method as well?

[Q] Phone Identification and Rooting / SIM Unlocking Issues / Error flashing PC10IMG

Hi guys,
Been here over five hours trying to SIM Unlock this phone. First off, I'm not even sure of which phone I have. I'm pretty sure I have a T-Mo G2, it has a hardware QWERTY slide-out keyboard, and says so on the boot-up screen.
It very probably isn't a Desire Z as the ROM I downloaded and tried in this cellphone told me "lack of heap" when installing in bootloader.
Every time I try to flash the PC10IMG file for a G2 from the Wiki the cellphone never asks me to update. It does go thru the "filling up the bars" process in the bootloader's upper right hand, but once it does it twice, it doesn't ask me for the update.
Doing a fastbook manual install also fails.
What gives?
Thanks...
what does your bootloader show? hboot number / s-off or s-on?
here some recommended guides:

I'm well on my way now... Thank You
not yet solved but already loaded the correct Image and permarooting
Solved! Thanks so much guys.

Help - Desire stuck on boot

Has anyone ever seen this? Got this phone cheap and would like to fix it.
Can't get into bootloader, just goes to this screen and keeps rebooting ever so often.
Cheers for any help
Ok an update, it seems the volume- button is broken but back key + power worked and I got into the boot menu. Here's a pic.
Where should I go from here?
Is there a way of knowing if the phone is branded and what brand or unlocked so I can try flashing a WWE RUU?
Ok so the phone is branded T Mobile since a Tmob RUU worked just fine but with WWE ROMs I get a CID mismatch.
Made a goldcard with 2 sd cards but it doesn't work since I get a CID error mismatch again.
I should mention that after a T Mobile RUU flash that phone was still getting stuck on that same screen in post 1.
I've tried several things but still no luck with getting anywhere.
Thoughts?
EDIT: Made a successful goldcard using a different method and was able to flash the latest WWE RUU but the phone is still stuck on boot, the difference is that now it's the white screen with HTC in the middle.
So the phone doesn't even get into boot.
Can somebody help me with this??
Ruu really should Fix it. If it doesn't, first port of call should be warranty. Does ruu give no error?
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
As I've mentioned, I got this phone for cheap so no warranty.
Nope, no errors with goldcard. Also I should mention I can't get into recovery, it just goes back into boot loop.
I suspect some partition somewhere must be corrupted.
If the phone had S-OFF it would make things so much easier.
Ok so an update, for anyone who runs into this problem.
After trying basically everything (even trying to unlock bootloader with a HTC Unlocker device with no success, probably due to action key not working) I was going to go and try to unlock the official way.
To unlock the official way I had to update the ROM so I just used the latest update which is 2.3.3 and after flashing I was finally able to boot!! So it seems like the problem was not hardware related at all.
Next I used Revolutionary to S-OFF, flashed CWM Touch and used root.zip for root access. Now I'm happy I got it all going and it's time for a sandwich, the ice cream variant
Peace!

Desire showing "Limited Service" after Unlock

Phone was 2.2 (Froyo) Locked to Orange/EE HBoot 0.93.0000
I unlocked desire using this guide:
http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Blog/Unlock-HTC-Desire-Free/ba-p/3185757
However, afterwards it was showing No Sim or Limited Service on any SIM card.
So I Upgraded the phone using the 2.3 Upgrade HBoot 1.02.0001.
Now it recognises and works with an Organe/EE sim after about 5 mins of being left, but when i reboot the phone, it shows No Sim.
With Any Other SIM it just shows "Limited Service".
I still have full functionality and can access HBoot.
Any Advice Please
Thanks
What ROM did you use to upgrade to 2.3?
It might be good to upgrade your radio firmware.
I used HTCs own 2.3 Upgrade which they gave out for everyone.. Its the one that debrands the phone. I got it from:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Bravo
Scroll down, its the Last one in the list, the phone isnt broken.. it works fine but it seems as if its only half unlocked and the person only gave half the instructions.
My Info is:
HBoot 1.02.0001
Version 2.3.3 / BaseBand V: 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23 / Kernel: 2.6.35.10 / Build: 3.14.405.1.
Which Radio version should I flash?. I dont mind flashing the Radio back to Orange/EE and ill just pay to Unlock it
Thanks
You cannot re-lock the phone.
And you already have the latest radio. You could try flashing it again through fastboot, but i don't think it will do anything.
Try running the unlock tool again. Maybe something will get fixed.

Tried that and it didnt work.. after reading through the comments section of that website.. it looks as if it shouldve been rooted through revolutionary. The worst of this is.. its not even my phone.. its my nephews, which is great.. anyone got any suggestions at all.
I have downloaded the "WWE 2.29.405.8".. I wonder if mayberooting and going back a radio might help.. any ideas.
thanks

Phone Help

So I tried to use a RUU for 5.1 update for AT&T. My device is unlocked being used under the T-Mobile network. I cannot get OTA updates. So when the RUU was occurring, the update failed and the phone was stuck on a download screen and it wouldn't load.
So I called HTC to help and they told me to hold down the power buttons w/ both the volume keys together. The phone seemed to start working with everything in tact, but then the phone constantly reboots. Especially when I play music, it makes static noises. I cannot seem to get it to be on for more than two minutes because it constantly restarts.
I plan on using my Uh-Oh carrier swap option to T-Mobile but rather fix it since it's a software issue and their troubleshooting doesn't seem to help.
Can anyone help me with my situation please? It's on 5.0.2 so far.

Sounds like a firmware problem, did you re flash the RUU until it was done?

The RUU seemed to fail during a flash and then I called HTC for some help and they gave me their reply to just turn off the phone from a manual hard reset. So it seems like I may have to do some work on my end now?

Your device is AT&T version?
Which RUU did you flash?

CID and MID?

1.32.502.31 current version. S-On. Idk CID and MID. RUU_HIMA_UL_L51_SENSE70_ATT_MR_Cingular_US_2.6.502.16_Radio_01.01_U11440601_72.02.50602A_F_release_438693_signed_2

If the firmware failed updating and stood in half of the process yes, you need to do something on your side. You need to finish running an RUU, because some files may be corrupt and may be causing this behavior. Try to get the RUU for the previous version or another one for your proper model, and then wait until it's done.
Please take note if you use a zip RUU format that will erase your internal memory, so don't forget to make a backup

Boot your phone to download mode (while rebooting press volume down button), then run RUU.exe again.

I would use this 1.32.502.31 RUU first
http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_...21_62.05.50320G_F_release_426950_signed_2.exe
then try the new one... these files will wipe your phone so backup first

Updated my M8, lost SIM unlock. Is it possible to go back?

I have an AT&T M8 that I have been using on Rogers network. It was SIM unlocked by flashing a config.dat file a while, it has S-off and I was running the vanilla HTC ROM on it because I liked HTC sense.
I decided to update to Marshmallow and flashed the SkyDragon ROM on it. It worked beautifully and my Rogers SIM card works fine. However, trying to use an AT&T SIM card (while in Canada as I want to activate it as I've done with other GoPhone SIMs), I'm not able to get any signal. I am somtimes able to search for a network (sometimes the option is greyed out) but when I clicked on Rogers, it just says "Operation Not Allowed".
It looks like the config.dat method has been patched
H-BOOT version is 3.19
Did I lose my SIM unlock?
How can I get it back - downgrade? Going to GPE ROM? Am I screwed?
Why does my phone work with Rogers and not AT&T as it was originally an AT&T phone?

Did you just flash the Skydragon ROM to "update" of did you flash firmware.zip or RUU also?
Did you try to just go back to the previous ROM?
I just flashed the Skydragon ROM, I didn't mess around with a RUU or anything.
Do you think going back will resolve the issue? Can HBOOT even be downgraded?

Flashing a ROM doesn't touch hboot.
I'm not familiar with the SIM unlock hack you described. But if the only thing that has changed is the ROM, then yes, going back (especially if you made a TWRP nandroid backup you can restore, before flashing Skydragon) should restore it.
