i'm guessing maybe you haven't installed the DK28 modem? you will need that to use that or any Froyo rom.
ok so i installed dk28 with oden and now i can go unzip the file with cw3 right?
if you are rooted with CWM 3, and have the dk28 modem installed, then you can just flash the rom again in CWM.... no need to unzip. that should work, depending on what state your system is in after flashing the rom without having the modem installed.

I flashed from Juggernaut 3.65 to CM7. I noticed in the Android Market my device showed up as an HTC under the 'Maker' field. I thought I would flash back to the Stock ROM I have and completely unroot/restore to factory settings. I flashed it to the rom using ROM manager and now it won't boot. I can get to the Android recovery, so CWM is gone and I can still try to flash through ODIN but that doesn't seem to work either. Any thoughts?
I also tried reflashing from the UnRoot ROM using Android Recovery and it fails every time.
Thanks
Flash the stock rom rooted with cwr and the super user apk with Odin. Check the dev section.

I was able to flash the CWM recovery file through ODIN. I was then able to use CWM to restore back to the Juggernaut 3.65 but wouldn't let me flash back to stock, not that I'm complaining. It seems to be fully functional again. Thanks!
I'm running the eg12 modem, eg30 stock kernel. I've tried to flash the el13 modem via CWM and it hangs. I tried flashing eg30 via odin and it hangs. Any ideas why my modem flashes hang? I want to eventually get to strongsteve's el13 rom with the eg02 or el13 modem. Any ideas? Should I flash the rom running my current modem and go from there, or should I do something else?
Nevermind. I flashed the rom and the modems are flashing now.

Your kernel+cwm needs to be ek02 or newer to flash full modems in cwm, otherwise it'll hang
Hi,
I have been rooting for a while with my evo 4g which is basically just recoveries & zip files.
Currently I have updated to Calk's ICS Beta 3 rom with modem FC05. I have read some stuff here & there that talk about having issues going from a ICS rom back to a GB nandroid.
I have installed Kies opened Odin, looked at the Wiki here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1274337
I just dont quite get in terms of flashing zips through odin. I keep reading people say to odin back to stock & then flash from there.
How do I do that? I looked at QB777's video on youtube, but it seems like PIT files arent used much at this point.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks,
Rich
Ok, basically when you Odin back to stock, it involves flashing a .tar ROM from the pda slot in desktop Odin and not zip file like you would in CWM. Once you restore back to stock, you can find a .tar recovery, I personally use rogue which will allow you to have cwm-based recovery for flashing zips. All the links should be in development. Let me know if you still need help
Edit-what Odin does is it allows you to flash Roms, kernels, moderns, etc even if you don't have a custom recovery, provided that they are in the correct format, like .tar extension

so when i flash a tar, I go into download mode, open odin, point it to a stock rooted tar file that has CWR & I am back to stock ready to flash to something else?
Can you help me find those files? A stock rooted, CWR should do the trick.

Ok, so you go into a download mode on your phone, open Odin, plug in your USB cord, ODIN should recognize your phone provided you installed the right drivers. You're good if you get the yellow box that says 0 com, something something. The only box that should be checked is Auto Reboot in Odin.
The easiest way that I've been going back and forth between GB and ICS is to install the rooted EL29 .tar version here
http://little-melon.com/sfhub/SPH-D710.EL29_CL852097_ROOTED-sfx.exe
You would need to extract the file until you get a folder with tar.md5 name. Example of the file I provided would be SPH-D710.EL29_CL852097_ROOTED_PDA.tar.md5 once you unzip it. This is the file you would put on the PDA slot of your desktop Odin.
Once you do this, Odin will start flashing and be done in like 1-2 minutes and auto reboot. Do not do anything to shut down, unplug, or mess with the device while Odin is flashing or you may end up bricking it. Once your phone reboots you will be rooted and stock based with EL 29 modem and kernel, which is the latest official Sprint OTA. If you want to get a recovery after this, you would need to go back into Odin and flash a kernel that has a recovery baked in. Like I said I use Rogue and the link would be here for Rogue Stock EL29-
http://goo-inside.me/kernels/TeamRo.../rogue_ET-recoveryonly-1.1.4-rc0-odin.tar.md5
Flashing this in Odin you will get CWM-based recovery and can start backing up, flashing different ROMS.
Hope this helps.
This is very helpful. I am stuck at the SGS2 boot screen after flashing MIJJs Goodness 1.8, can't boot in to recovery, only download mode. How do I fix this?

Flash a recovery in download mode that I linked. It's rogue recovery

Just to confirm, using the files you had here, I open odin in download mode, choose PDA (check the check box) point it to the tar.md5 file, hit start & wait a few minutes until it auto reboots?
How do I flash the recovery? Is it also the PDA?
I have been flashing modems in CWR, not odin & I just want to make sure that recovery or rom itself, just PDA & nothing else checked (but PDA)?

Reverting back to GB ROM
I recently switched back from ICS to GB and did not have any problems with the change back. I simply went into my SD card manually took everything off except my chaulkins format all and my wifi tether hack. I then went into recovery mode and did a wipe all. Then went to zip files, ran the format all, then did an install of the new ROM and it works great!
I downloaded the .zip file for the upgrade from alpha3 to alpha4 off CM's website, put it on my SDCARD, booted into recovery - looks like stock recovery, (following the steps on CM website) then applied the zip -> it looks like its doing something for about 20 seconds then the little android guy dies and has a red triangle with an exclamation point coming out his stomach. What am I doing wrong?
baseband version: FE10
Kernel Version: 3.0.15-SPH-D710.FD10-CL377892
You need to be using a clockwork mod recovery to flash, stock recovery will not work.
First make sure you are rooted.
Next use either Odin 1.85 or Mobile Odin to flash the EL26 kernel.
Upon reboot, go into recovery mode using volume up+power. If you miss your chance to do so, just pull the battery and try to get into recovery again.
Using CWM, flash per the install instructions.
so do i just odin the kernel back to el26 w/ CWM? the reason i dont want to do a clean install is because i wodnt want to wipe my data. If i odin to EL26 w/ CWM do i need to go back to gingerbread?? Or is there a way i can sat on ICS and upgrade?
what if i used this kernel? [NEW][KERNEL] FE16 Repack with ACS recovery

If someone tells you how to do it safely, and you choose to do it your way done come crying when you brick, because it still says don't use recovery with ics kernels...

Do exactly what he said here... You're not going back to GB or wiping data. You're just re-flashing a CWM recovery. When you originally installed CM9 alpha 3, you used a CWM recovery. But the CM9 ROM re-flashes a stock recovery (which you can not use to upgrade from alpha3 to alpha4).
So all you do is Odin the EL26 kernel/CWM recovery image (phone in Download mode), and then you reboot and hold vol+ and power to get the phone into the CWM Recovery Mode. From there, you just install the CM9 alpha4, you don't wipe data or lose anything.
thanks man, it worked.
I am new to the forums and didn't want to make a new thread. I am having issues with the GPS (Maps App.) The app loads up i enter the destination i want to go to but it wont find my location where i am at. It just keeps searching for my location...
So i went ahead and downloaded another GPS app ( tele nav.) same issue. I was wondering is there a way to fix GPS issues on this rom? I would like to fix that issue..
anyone have a solution to fixing the GPS issue on this rom???
Hi everyone,
I'm on COG5, rooted stock ROM. I've been using it fine for weeks and today I had to restart my phone. It just went into a boot loop instead of restarting.
I've restarted into TRWP and did a factory restore, but still boot loop.
I grabbed the COG5 TAR and tried to use ODIN to flash the unrooted version. However, now ODIN won't recognize my phone when I'm in download mode. For some reason it sees the phone when the phone is connected but powered off. Once I try to turn it on in download mode, everything just seems to disconnect. So I can't get it to flash the TAR. I've tried this on ODIN 3.10 and 3.07.
Is there anything else I can try? Am I doing something wrong in ODIN?
Try flashing Beastmode kernel in recovery with a cache and dalvik wipe.
If that doesn't work, Odin once worked on that PC for TWRP, right? Have you verified your Samsung driver? Uninstall and reinstall it?
Have you tried KIES to recover it?
Some PC's setup the driver incorrectly. Mine had the same issue on Windows 8.1 Pro. Read this thread OP and pay particular attention to post 14. It helped my PC see my phone in recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34864154&postcount=14
May actually help KIES to recover your phone.
The boot loop is concerning, did you recently swap a kernel or flash something in recovery like a ROM from an older Android release? Any kernel flashed on OG5 rooted should have the kernel exploit like Beastmode has.

It is a new PC I'm working on (actually same PC, but upgraded to Win10). So I had to redo all drivers, Kies, Odin download.
But since I was still able to boot to TRWP, I just grabbed an OG5 ROM and flashed it. Everything worked, and thank goodness for my Titanium backups I was up and running with almost all my settings and stuff.
Thanks for replying though!
edit: regarding boot loop, I don't think I've needed to reboot in awhile and haven't changed anything recently. The phone needed to reboot after my kids played with it and somehow opened Adaway and in the end Adaway said a reboot was necessary. After said reboot, it was bootloop. I am running several mods in place of Xposed, so who knows if something crossed at some point.
Glad to hear you got your phone back up and running. The reason download mode wouldn't flash the stock OG5 rom onto your phone was because of the kernel currently detected.
For future reference, when using odin to restore your phone with the official OG5 tar, it looks for the stock unrooted kernel. I "think" freeza's stock root permissive "beastmode" kernel will let odin do it's thing but if not then you would need to flash a pure stock OG5 kernel and that would do the trick. I'm not sure but I think somebody made a flashable zip for the stock unrooted OG5 kernel. I may have also... I can't remember. LOL. Anyway if you have this problem again in the future keep this in mind.

If your phone is updated to OG5 or later, all you need to do in order to root and flash OBAR3 ROM is Odin TWRP recovery in download mode with auto reboot option unchecked. Wait for success...0 failed and pull USB and battery and boot to recovery and follow OBAR3 install directions.
