It might be conflicting with the build in a2sd. Why not just use apps2sd? 80% of the space on /data is used by apps. I would say do custom mtd, but that doesn't really do a whole lot on the stock rom, since it's so fat.
Wuuu at last! a2sd work for me! Now have 145mb of internal phone storage.
Thank you all so much!

i personally use data2ext not because its more space for the apps but also because the read/write speeds are faster to my class 6 sd card than it is to the internal

145.1 mb is the default size of /data. Nothing changed if that's all the space you have. If you got it to work you should have something more like 256 or 512 mb of storage.
Mmmm? Weird, I move dalvik cache , 145mb all I got. Im doing something wrong?

Is 145 mb the total space? Or is it the free space? If that's your total space, that's your internal memory. Moving dalvik cache to the SD card will free up space on /data, quite a bit actually, but it won't actually increase the total size. If 145 mb is what is FREE on your internal storage, then either you have custom mtd partitions or apps2sd worked correctly.
Yeah its the free space, thats means everythings ok, right?

Ok, wife has a rooted and s off desire. It had 41 mb free internal space. Installed Google+ and Adobe air. Moved air to SD and moved Google+ with titanium and link2sd. Checked internal memory down to 25 mb. So I uninstalled both the apps. I now get a reading of 32 mb not 41 mb as it was before. Why?

If I wipe all dalvik will it harm my phone in anyway?
Also done some research and found an app called A2SDGUI. looks like it can move dalvik to SD, is this a good idea and will it work on gingerbread?

Hi.
It won t harm ur phone. If you do so advice to wipe cache. Be in mind while rebooting takes much time coz rebuilding dalvik-cache.
Dunno a2sdgui could be a good idea depends ur sdcard speed. If not class10 (mean write speed 10mb/s). Dalvik is often used by system so if bad sdcard performance can reduce you rom performance.

so sdcrad writing speed = 2Mb/s
a2sd (move app 2 sd card) yes is enough
move your dalvik to you sd card no it to low (don't advice to do so)
have just look app mention a2sdgui requiered Requirements:
- ROOT
- busybox
- A2SD Darktremor Scripts V2.7.5.2 and above.
dunno if you got a custom rom (which means you got aswell a custom kernel)

I need some help with increasing my internal storage;
The problem is i am a newfag and kind of no interested in any super roms with awesome tweaks etc. I just want the same 2.3.3 android htc gave us in update with old sense etc but with like a 1gb of memory for apps so what i need to do?
I tried to find something and here is what i think i need to do:
1.Security off
2. Root --> here is a question. Does a root dissapears after i do a factor reset?
3. Now i need to install some kind of custom recovery - dont rly know how
4. Install some rom????
I was reading and trying to understand the difference beetwen the apps2sd data2sd, there were some disscussions that data2sd slows your phone etc. but then someone ofc spoke that's incorrect... There is a lot of contradictions in topics so it's hard for someone new to get to know the topic well.
So know in the end i will just write once again:
I want 2.3.3 htc android from update with everything the way it was but with bigger internal storage. Is that possible?
You could use a rooted stock rom that supports a2sd:

Ok guys
I did s-off,rooted and know here's the question
What's the difference beetween the partition ext 2,3 and 4? It's related with speed or stability? ^^Do I even have an option to choose which one will I use? I have class 2 card from samsung which came with desire
I also dont exacly know which option i need to choose in my 4.0.1.4 CWM at Partition SD Card. I want like 1gb for apps
Also special thanks to MatDrOiD for quick reply
Different formatting, speed, stability etc.
ClockWorkMod is poor regarding the partitions.
Id your need good recovery, get the RMD Recovery.
Usually roms let user decide what ext he needs, but fire some there are specifications to ext 4 or ext 3.
Read rom requirements.

My question essentially is Im curious just HOW MUCH usable INTERNAL MEMORY will you get in total if you root and install a custom rom with A2SD+ I saw and heard someone saying you can get 1gb internal memory for all of your apps? of course due to having partitioning your SD card, how many apps can you install and run ?

With a2sd+ internal memory still decreases because not all app data is moved to sd-card, some ramains in the internal memory.
data2sd moves entire data folder to ext3/4 partition on sdcard so nothing in internal memory get decreased (maybe something related to dalvik cache?).
That partition can be very big (I have 512GB - not much but I'm too lazy to repartition/reinstall). I saw some users are having as big as 2GB. I guess it can go more.
I'm runnning droidzone's Supernova 2.0.2.0 and I'm having 150 apps there and still 40 MB of free space. ROM is stable, fast and comes with data2sd metioned above.

Cool3D AceS v3 has a data2ext version.
Sent from my HTC Original Desire using Tapatalk
data2sd is better imho. It is constantly being developed by Sibere here and still well supported. Not to mention it was first.
I am unsure why sibere's work gets so overlooked all the time.
Im using CM7.1 ROM and it supports A2SD. Partitioned my SD card thru recovery using clockwork and installed S2ext. Set one of the extesions to 512 mb. Already Installed 43 user apps and (126 apps including system apps), but still i have 111 mb free memory. A totally great boast to my Desire as compared before on a stock whereas doing a hard reset every two weeks due to low memory issues.
is data2ext the same as data2sd? and is there a clear step to step guide on how to get the Cool3D AceS v3 ?
rootSU - Tell me the reason WHY you say data2sd is best?
it depends from the size of the apps, if you have root, then try to put the dalvik cache to ext3, too

don't know whether that method works on cm7
a couple of things that i know of:
1. S-OFF (search revolutionary) and change partition table to something like cm7r2, check alpharev. your internal memory goes up from stock (only 147MB) to 287MB.
2. flash an A2SD script such as Darktremor to make the most of your ext partition. it won't appear as extra internal memory, just tricks apps to move them there. keep all your apps on internal though i.e. don't manually move them to SD.
3. a different option, separate from A2SD is a data2sd script, don't know much about these, but have a look if they interest you. they extend the internal memory (adding your actual internal + ext)
and nandroid backup before trying any of this.
should have plenty of space after that!
I would combine 1 and 2.

I wouldn't recommend data2sd on 500MB, pretty pointless. If you're going to do it, do it properly
i have S-OFF already and ill look at the partition tables thing too see if that would help thanks, i tried simple2ext or something like that and i had to restore my nandroid is it functioned horribly so ill also look at darktremor
EDIT:
Ill extend it to 1gb then if you think its needed i have like 4gb free on my sd and i could get a 16gb if i could be bothered...
It certainly seems a waste of the script, lol.

I have an faq you can read, which will help. Then if you're still unclear...
Its the adb and fastboot faq via the link in my signature (guides etc). Just skiup the adb stuff as its not relevant.
First read and understand that. Dont do anything yet. Just read
I know how to use fastboot its just that alpharev says flash then wipe cache which is fine but then says "wipe everything and restore" I dont really get that?
I am very happy with CM7 and an ext4 1gb partition made useable for apps and dalvik moved by this tool: S2E (search for it in Android Market)

You should be fine with nandroid backup, flash hboot, nandroid restore.
It never hurts to format system, cache and data via recovery (cwm based) or via fastboot commands

Hi all,
Everybody here must know about latest cm10.1 by olddroid right It's great news for our gio. But i have problem and maybe several people here had the same. This rom already has init.d folder but it seems doesn't support cronmod. I have done every thing i can, like flash it (cronmod) through proper flashing method and push it manually to /system /etc /init.d also set it's permission to rwxr-x---. But what i got is bootloop .
It would be great if any body here have the solution. I'm totally noobs but I love to learn :fingers-crossed:

After you flashed it you also have to format sd-ext.

If you don't use any a2sd script, fairly few. The dalvik cache will be filling up the internal memory fast.

What if i use a2sd but with n, n, y ?
Would that keep the dalvik on internal (making it faster), but move apks to sd-ext?
Would i then be able to install a decent number of apps (say 50) even though the dalvik is on internal?
Or is there a different script for this purpose?
THanks

Dalvik on internal doesn't make a performance difference. Data on internal does.
http://db.tt/m4sQLDOI
Install this zip from recovery. It moves dalvik and data/app to sd-ext. It will be enough for about 100 apps, without affecting performance at all.

Install this zip from recovery. It moves dalvik and data/app to sd-ext. It will be enough for about 100 apps, without affecting performance at all.

Cool thanks bro for the info & zip!
Why is it that it doesn't affect performance though? Is it to do with read speeds of sd cards being so fast that it doesn't matter?

Because dalvik cache isn't as frequently accessed as data, so it doesn't need great sd-card speeds to be fast.
I had about 200 apps on there with no issue, however it's been a while since I used it so obviously modern apps are bigger.

Oh hey rootSU. Haven't seen you in a while in this section.
How does it feel to see that people still use your rom?

It's amazing. I can't believe people are still finding it! I just thought I'd randomly google it today and found this thread so then I checked out the host stats just now out of curiosity. Over 1500 downloads in the last 3 months! Yeah it makes me feel pretty special actually. I certainly see dGB as an achievment

Try what @abaaaabbbb63 posted to move Dalvik Cache to SD if you need to. Any decent a2sd+ script should work too. I don't have a known working one to hand.
S2e and app2sd script dose not work I will try others and the method above
