Hi,
I got a tethering connection via usb0 cable to use the Internet connection of my Noteboook.
(using adb port forwarding, ssh, openvpn)
Everything ( ping, browsing via skyfire ) works fine but i got no connection in gtalk and gmail ( with a no connection .. warning )
It seems like gtalk, market(downloads) und gmail prove if the phone has a wifi or gprs/utms connection. Any ideas to get this working ??
regards Jörg

Hi all
Can somebody please post a step by step guide on how to connect to the internet over a wifi connection. ive been pulling my hair out for days trying to achieve this without sucess.
i am sure i cant be the only one.
maybe the guide can be made a 'sticky' so the authors name can be immortalised on this fine Forum.
Thanks in advance

Hi
I've been pulling my hair out too at first , but now succeeded
my setup :
A PC with an USB WiFi dongle configured for peer to peer WiFi
In the PC there's also an ethernet card which connects to the rest of my network and the internet .
I installed Winroute 4.2.5 on the PC (you can find it on the internet)
My WiFi card has the address 10.10.10.1 . make sure your WiFi card has a completely different IP range then your ethernet card (or adsl modem or whatever you use to get to the outside world
Once winroute is installed , it will ask which adapter goes to the internet . in my case : the ethernet one .
There's not much to be configured in the winroute .... nothing actually
Step 2 :
Configure the PDA for peer-to-peer WiFi access . As an IP address , give it for example 10.10.10.2 and a subnet. no gateway , no dns , no wins (winroute handles all that for you)
once you have a WiFi connection, all will pass through winroute and you have internet access
If you intend to use the PDA Wifi for other networks too , you can configure the winroute to give out DHCP addresses . make a range from 10.10.10.2 to 10.10.10.4 or so . no other settings needed . On the PDA you can choose to get IP from server . This is better if you want to use various hotspots, public networks,... you can also set the PDA WiFi to accept all connectons (not only peer to peer)
But do this last bit after you're sure the internet access with fixed ip's works .
Instead of winroute you can also use windows internet connection sharing , but it has a lot of shortcomings

Hi, is it possible to connect the BA, via WIFI (P2P connection), to a PC with a WIFI card and use the PC's internet connection tu surf the web?
I tried: I can make the BA get the signal, but when I try to connect to a website it doesn't work.
Thank you in advance.
Bye.
fabbor75
I don't think its possible to do this directly using a P2P WIFI connection, but if you can get activesync to work over a P2P WIFI connection, it might work. I know is I use activesync over a USB connection & I can surf the net all day, so I'm thinking it might be possible to use the same approach over wifi.
Thing is I don't know if its possible to use activsync over P2P wifi
Solution
The problem is that windows not chain the IP Adrress of PC and Pocket bacause Nat not work under Xp basic system.
It's possible however to install a third party software to route packet from Pc to pocket i think all NAT's program can do that!!!!
Find one and Good Luck.
With WM2003SE i've used WINROUTE
Maybe?
Hi fabbor75!
Maybe your problem isn't the connection to the PC, it's maybe the DNS-resolution. Check your TCP/IP-settings on your BA, the important thing ar the DNS-Server.
The badest thing you must do is that you have to configure all TCP/IP setting manually: IP-Address, Subnetmask, Gateway and DNS-Server.
But you have to configure EXTERNAL DNS-Server on your BA, this one you got from your internet-provider, not the PC to which your BA is connected P2P. And the Gateway is the IP-Adress of your WiFi-card which is built-in in your PC.
Maybe this helps you.
Greetings, Peter
Hello Guys,
I need to setup the internet access at my PDA2k ...

i have PDA2k Device and have wm5 Installed on it.
Note: i mad a successful connection with my wifi laptop and i get it connected but i cant surf with the internet exeplorer
Thanx in advance
U need to enable Internet Sharing (google it) between LAN & WiFi on laptop
Network Connections -> LAN connection -> Properties -> Advanced
or Wifi/LAN router attached to WAN/ADSL for home/small office use - all devices have independed internet access
I like Asus products - best price/quality ratio for me.
ADSL router with 4LAN ports + Wifi /g
I have Desire. Try to create VPN connection to my work net over 3g, GPRS or Wi-Fi. Tunnel creation is succesful. It's working perfect for 15-20 seconds then nothing. No any warnings in Phone. VPN Server says it's OK. But net resources and RDP connections are unavailable. I'm using IPsec/PP2P protocol. Server with Win2k.
Also try to connect to another VPN server (router). Same result in such different situations
Same problem here. Using hideipvpn.com service. No internet connection when connected to vpn
up? Somebody help pls
Old WinMo works excellent but my new Android doesn't want
Does anyone know if it's possible to use this when using your phone as a WIFI hotspot, or does the hotspot only use your data connection? Cheers
I'm not sure what you're asking, but the Wifi hotspot option only allows you to share your phone's 3g connection with wireless enabled devices. If you're on Orange they've probably blocked it by default so you need to configure it.

He is asking if he can forward the Internet connection from the PC using a USB cable (Internet Passthrough mode) and further pass it to other devices using the WiFi hotspot feature IN THE SAME TIME

Yeah, that's what I want to do. Picked up an iPad 2 on Friday, but don't have WIFI at work. Was hoping to share my PCs internet connection instead of using my data.
I'm in the same boat. No wifi at work and would like to share my pc's interenet through the phone's as a wifi hotspot. Theoritically this should be possible. Any third party softwares which allow this?
Hmm, cant test it now due to some reasons but it's possible to use your phone as a wifi card.
For example connect your phone to wifi and activate usb tethering. Now your on the wifi nework with your pc.
I think that yours should be possible too
Tapatalked with Tapatalk from my Desire HD using Tapatalk.
I'm trying to do the opposite, not usb tethering, rather internet passthrough. Basically I want to use the phone as a wifi router (but not using mobile network as the source of net).

Unfortunately , I guess , this couldn't be possible , because when HTC Desire HD device is connected via " Internet pass through " , the internet connection is neither 3G , nor WIFI . I can't be a hundred percent sure that this is right , but as far as you know there are some GAMELOFT games , which require downloaded CACHE/DATA for playing them . This downloading could be possible , when your device has been connected to Internet , no matter 3G/4G or WIFI .
Once I tried via " Internet pass through " to download this DATA/CACHE files ,but there appeared a notification saying Im neither 3G , nor WIFI connected . So I couldn't succeed in downloading the files . ( I've tried many games , yet has never managed to download DATA/CACHE game files via "Internet pass through" )
My opinion is that WIFI-HOTSPOT can be activated only when you are connected via 3G/4G/WIFI network . But anytime you want , you could try if it is possible via "Internet pass through" be established a WIFI-HOTSPOT
: ))
Create a txt file "qaWifiOnlyMode.txt" and inside write FALSE , put in the root of your sd ... and the game will ask your permission to use carrier network , if internet pass through are active will use the USB connection
(sorry bad english, i'm drunk)
