[Q] Novice With A MMS Problem - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am currently using Incredibly Re-Engineered v2.3 and I love it to death. I would have posted in development, but being a noob, they won't allow me too.
My MMS will just not work. It worked the first day that I was using this ROM, but after that, it went all downhill. I know that there is an issue with wifi, but my wifi is off. I searched through the official thread and there is only one other person I found having a similar issue. This is IMMENSELY frustrating to say the least. I love this ROM, and would love to continue to use it. So, is there anyone outt there who could help a guy out?

The easiest fix by far? Flash to Skyraider
Hate to be "that guy" but seriously, there's a Sense-based and a Sense-less version so you can have it both ways. It's fast, great battery life and can be customized out the a$$. And if there's something from your current ROM you really can't live without, ping the developer and ask for it in the next Skyraider release. The guys a developing fiend, loves a challenge.

I have the same issue with skyraider. Aka, why I switched.

Google help with AOSP instability?

Like many others here, I'm very frustrated with the instability of the AOSP ROMs on the Incredible.
Are any of the developers for the Incredible making progress on this issue, or is it simply too deep in the code for them to find?
Is there an escalation resource available at Google, or with the AOSP project that can be pulled in?
There's been a lot of wasted time and energy spent fighting what seemingly shouldn't be an issue. Is AOSP ROM stability on the Incredible something we should expect, or are we fighting a losing battle with no further help in sight?
ooh boy....
we are a bunch of morons. Not ONE of us thought about calling up google and pulling someone into this project!?
Have you tried Ruby? It works great for me - nonSense ftw.
Incredible, Froyo, Rooted, S-OFF, Ruby 1.1.1...

There are a number of threads on Google's Nexus One forum on a similar, but perhaps different issue. There are a couple mentions of Cyanogen in one.

It's frustrating to get this kind of attitude and answer to an honest question. Honestly I don't know, so why can't you give me a mature answer?

Yes, I just watched my Incredible reboot with Ruby 1.1.1.
Ruby has been stable as hell for me. I find it odd that for some people, certain roms are very stable, while for others they can be just the opposite.
I think its time for some trouble shooting. Flash a rom, dont restore anything. See how it goes. Try it with wifi on, wifi off, etc. I dont think its the AOSP code.
There are way too many variables to really pinpoint exactly why some people have issues and some don't. It could be something as simple as one program a person has throwing things off.
In the grand scheme of things, these roms aren't "supposed" to be on our phones anyway. We should be thankful there is a company pushing open source unlike other companies that won't be named.... ****ing Apple. With time, everything will come together.

Stable here, 37hrs strong!
It's more of a nexus one is made for AOSP. So making new HW fit AOSP is a challenge.

[Q] Thoughts on ROMs other than Cyanogen...

Just curious what people like other than Cyanogen. If CM (which seems to be the favorite) didn't exist, which would you choose?

Well, yeah man, but I was hoping we could do it constructively. There's no need to go off on him. Even if you're right, you'd get more sympathy from people by skipping the name-calling. Sorry if you think I'm out of bounds. Just trying to be fair.
well, i loved 3rd sense untill i decided to play with themes... great froyo/sense rom
Well I enjoy any AOSP Roms, trying to stay away from sense Roms. I seen so much of it on my touch pro 2.

Ok, I'm sorta indifferent as to which roms are my favorite, etc.
When I got my original myTouch, I was a religious Jesterdroid/Pandoradroid user [stock Android, themed, with some ported Cyan goodies as well as some MotoBlur enhancements and animations]. I was sorta afraid, if anything, to use anything different, since every time I flashed a different ROM, one of the phone's capabilities would be wonky [ie camera would be weird, soft keyboard would randomly FC out of nowhere, various apps weren't compatible, etc].
When I got my slide, the first thing I flashed was Cyanogenmod, and it was a totally new experience, but I missed the Stock Sense that the Slide came with. When 3rd Sense came out, I hopped onto that bandwagon and used that religiously until CM 6.1.1 came out, and everything worked. Everything.
I like the organization and flow of Sense a lot, because I like seeing a contact being connected through Peep [Twitter], Dialer [Phone], and Friendstream [Facebook] in one place, as opposed to many different places that stock Android has. HTC has it right in terms of their UI. Although it can get really bogged down at times, since a lot of things are running at once, I prefer Sense over Stock Android.
But at the moment, the only decent Sense rom [for the Slide] needs the Froyo kernel from T-Mo, so it still isn't working 100%. I know that once it drops [IF it drops] 3rdSense will come up to par with Cyanogenmod. But until then, I'm sticking with CM.
[and I'm currently using CM with Cyanoginger flashed over it]

What you said wasn't out of bounds at all.
I'm also currently on 3rd sense and would love to see another update of it. It's pretty close to perfection. MusicMan and etu_aty have also posted respectable roms. You don't see much Espresso stock in all its glory or a decked out Froyo. Actually, you don't see those at all. This is exactly what we need. I'm a fan of Cyanogen roms, but we don't need copycat roms (even if the source code is different than Cyanogen's) trying to be better when they offer the same thing as the last rom.
I love CR_Mod. Chiefz seemed to let it go for now and MusicMan came and did something with it. Cyanoginger is also a fresh take on the CM source with further advances to working properly. And really, all roms seem to be pretty fast so they're just about equal in speed. The fact that there's less bloatware makes it even smoother. These are exactly what we need.
This thread is asking for comments on roms you LIKE, other than CM, it is not a place to flame other members. Any more of this flaming/disrespecting others will result in infractions.
I couldn't care less if people like or dislike a particular rom or dev, I do however care that recently people have been using this forum to vent their anger at others. I'm not prepared to let this continue. If you have a problem with someone take it to PM or report their post. Let this serve as the one and only warning that I will start issuing infractions if this behaviour continues.
I should point out that this is a general warning to everyone, not just the people who have recently had posts deleted in other threads.
To answer the op, cyanogenmod is the rom of choice because people love customization. Plus people like solid roms. From experience, cm has more features and is more stable. Plus, if google ever releases a new version of android, cyanogen is usually the first to give it to us. I think i just have cyanogenmod loyalty since our G1s stopped getting OTAs after 1.6 and cyanogen kept us up-to-date. I've tried sense roms on the G1 one. They ran so slowwwwwwwwwww!

I'm also a big fan of CM but unfortunately, it gave me a huge problem for some reason where I couldn't call one of my contacts. I was helped through it by T-Mo tech support for about a month and eventually I just decided it must be the ROM so I unrooted and everything's been fine. Clearly some combination of the root and my network connection didn't gel. So, sadly, I had to give up CM 6.0. I was hoping to inspire some good dialogue about the functionality of other ROMs to see what people think about the other things going on in the Slide ROM world.
Those of you who have said "other", let us know which ones and why!

Athena Update

I few members have expressed interest in me updating Athena to include some newer modifications. I had planned on doing this as well. However, with all of these new 2.3 ROMs, I am a little hesitant. It is a lot of work, and I really do not want to waste my free time if no one is going to use it.
The update would still be using 2.2 as a base, but include some of the newer modifications found in my Sense ROM. I do not plan on re-basing using 2.3 because there currently is only a leak build available. So vote up top in the poll. I will leave the poll open for a week.
Anything you put your time into, I AM DOWN and LOVE. I'd love whatever you do just don't waste ur time. cos ur time is very precious to many of us!
Thank you for considering this, I personally hope to see a update released. Used your Athena for the majority of my dINC's life so far. Thanks for all you've done, regardless of the poll's outcome. =]
I voted for a 2.3-based update, but I would definitely check out and probably use any Athena update. Thanks!!
This would get me to leave cm7

I always thought Athena had better battery life for some reason. It'd be cool but isn't desensitized sr 4 pretty close to Athena. I'd hate for you to waste your time. You've already done more for the dinc than anyone else, except maybe cm

Loved Athena too but been way more then happy with the desensed 4.0 If you were to update it I most definitely would go back to but I agree that it isn't necessary and you should not waste your time even though I'm sure everyone would love it.

The current Athena is great. I would vote (and use) for the update. Thanks.
To you fools who are voting not to update.. please leave. this man is a genius and is offering his work! TAKE IT!!!
So....I tried out SR4 and was very impressed. I had a couple of minor problems, but I think that they may have been related to installing with ROM Manager. I haven't tried Athena yet, since I've been rocking CM, but it's on the list of things to try. I do have to admit that I'm liking having GB, so I don't know if I'd really use a Froyo ROM as my day-to-day ROM. That being said, I think it would be a crying shame if we lost you as a chef. So let me ask this: If you don't update Athena, are you done with the ROM cooking? Or would you move on to GB once we get some official love? I guess I'm saying that I'd rather have updates for a ROM that I might only use occasionally than nothing at all, but if you have other projects in the queue that might prove more fruitful, then by all means, quick like a bunny!

Agreed! "It's gold Jerry, GOLD!"
I really like Athena 1.2 and SR 4.0, both great ROMs all around with excellent mods built into them. I would love to see what Mr. ihtfp69 could do with a 2.3 base.

I agree he is a genius and don't want him to stop developing, and I said if he did update I would use, but if he has concerns that froyo is dying I trust his judgement. I was/am hoping rather then working on Athena now he would really attack with the GB official. That is all

I've been using athena as my only rom - it's got a great mix imo
i just finally got SR 4 working decent now so i'll give it a whirl but athena is still my goto - nothing else i've flashed can compare
I would appreciate your work and I would flash. I'm done messing with the new sense roms myself and need the stability of 2.2 back. The only downside is nobody is updating there 2.2 roms now. If you do decide to do this I believe it would set you apart. Plus the new roms have no battery life.

As much as I appreciate and would love to try out any new ROM you make. I would say that to me, I will most likely not be using the Athena updated ROM on a daily basis and would rather see you focus your work elsewhere.
Athena is my default ROM. I am currently using SR 4.0 with the sense items removed while I was waiting for the Athena update.
Would love to see a 2.3 based Athena.
Love your work and thanks!
i love the stability of athena and would love to see an update
Holy crap! If you update this I will use it 4ever!
If you use 2.3 as a base and it's not stable I will probably end up going elsewhere. Been using Athena for the past 5 months (I was a ROM flashing whore before) and it's no doubt the most stable, simple (yet extremely functional) ROM I have ever come across. This ROM is very unique. Amazing work!!
whatever ya do though... please keep social networking an OPTIONAL add-on. Try to keep it real to the first Athena.
Thank you for the Poll and thank you for your hard work.
I was using Athena until I started to get the Nov OTA message to update and it wouldn't go away so I stop using it for that reason.... I would like to see an update tho...

[Q] What is the dominate rom, most updated or stable?

HTML:
Hello friends,
Just upgraded from the evo 4g through Craigslist & going to get the Evo LTE for my often travels to Texas.
I have done a few hours of reading and one thing I can't grasp is what is the dominate rom for our S2s?
I only really want root for backup & wifi hotspot. I would prefer to make sure I have no issues with gps or Bluetooth as well.
[*]What is the most stable setup?
[*]Most curated or updated lovingly?
[*]Any big drawbacks to your suggestion?
I appreciate the knowledge!
@IdeaJason
Gingerbread or ICS?
This should be posted in Q/A, but, that's irreleavnt...
In my opinion, the most stable ROMs are the stock Samsung builds. Stable is the key word. It (the EL29 Gingerbread ROM) is the most widely-available build, installed on thousands of active devices. If there were problems with it, we'd know/the problems would be out there. This is the "official" ROM for the phone.
There are a lot of ROMs for you to play with. Personally, I love all of Calkulin's ROMs, all extremely speedy and robust. Stable as well.
I currently have the FE07 ICS ROM, but that's because I'm an Android nerd. It has it's bugs, but it's an official Samsung leak.
All in all, just play it safe. Obviously, things like CM9 or Codename Android are still in Alpha builds, so they are not what you're looking for.
Sfhub uploads the One-Click ROM/Modem/Kernel install files - these kick ass. He has them for all builds.
Sorry if this post was a little vague, I'm in a hurry to work.
There's no such thing as a dominant rom for any popular device here on xda, because there are so many awesome developers making stuff for it. Also, development now is strong enough that bluetooth and gps are working on pretty much any rom unless otherwise stated. General rule of thumb to finding popular/updated roms is to look at when the thread for the rom was started, how many views/replies has been made in the thread, and when the rom was last updated. After that, you can determine for yourself.
I agree there is no dominiate rom. Each rom has its selling points. All in All all roms we have are awesome. This kind of thread will only lead to flaming so lets not open that can of worms.

Thanks all for your replies.
I'm not looking to start a flame war at all, just trying to save myself a ton of tinker time before going on a trip.
I have everything rooted from my Viewsonic Gtab to my old EVO and they both had bugs that affected my performance on the road.
I want stable but I also want root backup & hotspot. So I know I can't use the Samsung stuff. I would prefer ICS if it is stable but ginger is fine if it the only option.
I'm just looking for opinions. Even ones that are unpopular if they are worthy.
(Sucks changing phones. I invested so much time learning to root & all the different roms that when you change its like going to a new OS.)
Thanks again all who have & will post.

I have told several people the same thing and like I said I have tried everything, but blazer has all the functionality and no quirks and great battery life that you are looking for. IMO, just from my experience stay away from ICS until source code is released. I am not for sure but it seems like all the devs are just trying to make the most out of a good situation with the leaks right now but once they get something solid they will be able to make ICS just as good as their gingerbread roms. Shout out to all the devs for all your hard work I envy your skill. Thank you

[Q] New To HTC EVO 4G HELP?

Hello, my name is Zach I just joined his site in behalf of my HTC EVO 4G that I've just ordered. I should be getting it tomorrow or Monday I'm not quite sure. I hope you android savvy people could help me out with rootin my EVO or of I should wait?
I want to get to Linux and coding and ROMs I currently own a IPod touch 3rd generation. I've used almost every single Jailbreak. But it just seems to simple.
So I ordered a new phone because I wanted to explore the whole android part. I done some very sophisticated things with coding making servers Etc. But this looks pretty difficult on rooting my EVO. I read many posts on here on what Roms are out and stuff.
I read that some increase battery life or even increase camera resolution. So here's where I get to my question. I know you may of heard a nooby question like this a million times but, " What ROM should I get that would improve speed on my evo, improve screen resolution and camera resolution, and could also use wifi tether. And also does t deactivate the cameras?" and I also want to be able to change the theme of the evo if you can do that.
I also have Android version 2.3.3 if that makes any difference..
Thanks!

Nitrous ROM
You have got to try Nitrous ROM by raafaell before you settle on a selection. I was a flash-oholic for a while after I rooted. Until I found Nitrous. I also did not want a bunch of themed stuff, just gets to be too much. 4G does work...where you can get it. Super smooth, darker blue tones throughout, all your standard mods (battery, transitions) too if you want to metamorph that stuff.
It will certainly be worth your time to check it out I have continued to try other ROMs because there are some really talented devs out there making some great work but I always go home to Nitrous.
Go here, give him a thanks too!
