Try to wipe the dalvik and partition in recovery. Then flash. Is it a zip file? Attached it if you can.
The EVO you wish you had
no its done with fastboot commands in fastboot mode..
it cant be flashed.. and i tried that.. i hate how 48 people have read this and only you replied. thanks though i appreciate the effort!
Possible your hboot doesn't support these fastboot commands?
Once again....if you aren't using the .76 ENG Hboot, you can't use fastboot commands.
its .93.0000 < hboot version

The engineering bootloader is the only one that can do it that way. to flash over usb with a prod hboot you have to put it in ruu mode and flash it as a pc36img

give me a couple of minutes to make one up.
take your time i really appreciate it!
by the way is there any tutorial on how to do this? i mean to do what you are doing for me..
Yes but i dont remember where. do know that you need nbimg-1.1win32(i can send that to you if you want it)to turn files into img(for flashing), 7zip for making the zips and you need to turn all pics into 480x800 bmp. heres what you asked for you have to rename it to PC36IMG( has to be just as you see. just delete (BADAPPLE). as i said before put on sdcard (delete any other file that has that name on card, power down phone, press and hold power and volume down, (let it work it will find the file) it will ask for update press volume up then press it again when asked to reboot and there you go.
i think you have to flash it with fastboot? thats always the way i have done it and thats why i think it doesn't change with different ROM/theme's etc, could be wrong

Okay, so I just finished completing the guide on how to root 2.2, and I read on the forums that some people were having trouble installing CM6 with the method, and a different HBOOT was required. I flashed the HBOOT from showthread.php?t=75283 and now my phone will not boot. It keeps going to the Bootloader, any ideas as to what I can do?
[Edit]
I can get into Amon_Ra recovery fine

And what do I do from Recovery? I'm sorry, but I'm new to all of this.

I can't boot my phone up for some reason, if there is something I can mess with in recovery mode, let me know
I managed to get my HBOOT back to 0.79.0000, but it still won't go past the bootloader screen, no matter how I try to restart the phone.

Wipe, then flash CM6 or something else from recovery.
To flash a rom, put the zip file on the SD card in the bottom folder. Get into the Amon ra recovery. Clear your cache. Flash the zip file. All done.
Btw, before you clear the cache and flash the zip do a man's backup... Always do a man's backup. That's what will save you if you screw up.

This is right. I had the same prob then ran toasts simpleroot nandunlock to get hboot .76. For some reason I lost my flash.bin and had to reflash a recovery thru cmd to atop getting flash_image not found message
So basically I need to go back and forward from .79 to .76 everytime I want to switch between cm6 and other custom roms like fresh or any of those roms?

I'm still pretty new to this stuff, so bare with me. And please if someone notices a mistake in this guide let me know so I can change/fix it.
First of all you need to make sure you've fully completed all the steps (including part 2) for rooting 2.2. Make sure you're in recovery, this guide will flash Amon_RA 1.8.0. After that it's pretty simple:
1) Download the PC36IMG.zip from
forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7889836&postcount=18
2) Copy it in zip format to the tools directory of your android SDK, mine is
C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
3) Open cmd from the tools location
Windows 7: highlight the tools folder, then shift + right click and hit "open command window here". cmd window should pop up that has the location of the tools folder.
4) Type
adb push PC36IMG.zip /sdcard/
To make sure it transferred okay, go to flash zip in recovery and see if the file is there.
5) Back out of recovery into the boot loader by rebooting the phone (should be an option in recovery somewhere)
6) click bootloader once your evo starts up, and it should auto detect the new PC36IMG.zip and ask for you to apply update, apply it and reboot. You should now have the 0.76 bootloader and Amon_RA 1.8.0.
7) You can now delete the PC36IMG.zip file if you want by typing
adb shell
rm PC36IMG.zip
This next part if only for cyanogen mod, but it should be pretty similar to other ROMs.
1) Download all files needed for cyanogen mod (both the ROM and Google Aps)
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735596
I also suggest you download the latest radio from XDA as well.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
2) Place all the files in the tools folder exactly as they are.
3) Boot into recovery on your evo.
4) Open a cmd prompt from the tools folder just like in step 3 in part 1
5) Type:
adb push EVO_Radio_2.15.00.07.28.zip /sdcard/
adb push update-cm-6.0.0-Supersonic-signed.zip /sdcard/
adb push gapps-hdpi-20100817-signed.zip /sdcard/
6) Chose flash zip in recovery and flash radio.zip, reboot the phone
7) Go back into recovery
8) Wipe your SDCard (cache/davlk-cache/etc.)
9) Flash cyanogemod ROM and then Google Apps
You should now have an updated radio, Cyanogen mod and the latest google apps. Good luck, if you have any questions please let me know. I'm pretty new at this android stuff but I'll try to help the best I can.

Can you access recovery via the hboot menu?
If not, have you tried flashing a new recovery via fastboot?
Also, and this would help the most, how did that happen? I mean: did something go wrong while flashing some zip or radio? Please explain a bit further so it can be easier to help you out...

I havent tried flashing a new recovery via fastboot because I dont know how, how do ya do it?
And as to how it happened I was using unrevoked to flash amonra recovery it and it was "rebooting" but then it said an error about couldnt write to misc or something and the phone was stuck on htc white screen, tried rebooting and nothing, recovery nothing.
So yh i think flashing a new recovery will do the trick, linky to a guide?

First of all let me know this: have you got s-off? If so you can use fastboot commander to flash it, very easy and fast.

s-off? hmm dunno lol
I originally rooted using goldcard method and flashed the rooted zip then many different roms since. recently used unrevoked to get clockworkmod recovery which was working fine and flashed a new rom and then tried unrevoked again to get amonra but then i got to this situation
Hope this helps
Get the RUU your Desire came with and go back to that. Then start again
I have s-on and tried ruu's but failed as have no working goldcard and i have 1.21 on phone and the voda ruu that my phone came with is 1.19
Ive tried the PB99IMG.zip method but that just shows main version higher error is there a way to trick this stage?
I'd just stick to using a stock WWE ROM until the 2.10.161.2 RUU shows up (if at all)
whats the diff between RUU and PB99*.zip? I have the same problem also. Cant access clockworkmod.
Im thinking of flashing it again using PB99 in hboot then root again. Or how can we flash the recovery?
No difference, just that an RUU needs Windows. Both wipe the phone and reset it back to 'out the box'
I see so I can flash PB99 in HBOOT(transfer pb99 to sdcard) then root again?
Or is there another way I can access the recovery or flash the recovery?
Thanks
Just flash the zip from hboot and then root again with unrevoked. Then set the phone up again as it'll be wiped

Thanks! It worked. I'll root it using unrevoked then, how do I make that clockworkmod recovery permanent or something?
When you use unrEVOked it flashes Clockwork Mod as your recovery so it'll be permanent (unless you unroot again)
This might work for of you
WAIT, BEFORE YOU START, CREATE A GOLDCARD. IT IS VERY NECESSARY. THINGS WILL GO WRONG IF YOU DONT.
EDIT: YOU MUST BE ABLE TO BOOT GO TO THE BOOTLOADER MENU.
Firstly, download this file. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13240777/Desire Downgrade.ZIP
Extract the files.
Run the win-down.bat file.
Follow on screen instructions.
After the process is completed, Head to the root of your SD card and check if there is a file named P99***IMG (FORGOT THE EXACT NAME BUT IT SHOULD BE SOMETHING LIKE THIS) there should be one.
Secondly, disconnect your phone and turn it off.
After that boot up your phone while pressing the volume down button and the power button.
The bootloader should be checking for files after awhile and once it found the file that is supposed to be in the root of your sd card, press the volume up button (NOT EXACTLY SURE, SHOULD BE THE ONE THAT SAYS YES AND CONTINUE)
It should be writing files to your phone. and replaces everything. E.G: HBOOT, RECOVERY,RADIO and such.
It should be writing files successfully and then it would ask you to reboot. Continue with the reboot and you should be having your Desire back to stock. Perfect.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE ARE RISKS INVOLVED LIKE FAILURE OF WRITING TO THE HBOOT. PLEASE REMEMBER TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. MAINLY, DO NOT BLAME ME FOR ANYTHING THAT GOES WRONG.
FINALLY, YOU SHOULD BE READING EVERYTHING UP TO HERE AND THAT YOU MUST HAVE A GOLDCARD (A GOLD SD CARD)
Hope this helps you and please ask if you have further questions. PM me if the questions cannot be answered here. Good Luck
you got the error of a higher main version because you did not have a GOLDCARD.

Im afraid each goldcard has a specific cid used to create the goldcard
My advice is to borrow another android phone/device with sd slot and use it to get your cid. Theres a handy program on the market to get your cid for you, just search for goldcard on market when your sd is inserted.
When you have the cid go on the internet and get your goldcard image. Put ur sd in your comp and do a full format as fat32 and use hxd to turn it into a goldcard.
Thats how I did it! :-D

I have put Fastboot.exe and Recovery.img in C:\Fastboot

Hi first verify that md5 sum matches. Then i would suggest you to download the recovery img again.
Use the package from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896597 to flash the recovery img.
This is actually to flash a radio but works for anything. You just have to replace the "radio" with what you want to flash and remember to put the .img file in the same folder. I used this package to flash splash screen.
I'm not sure how to verify the MD5.
By the way, do I need ENG S-OFF and Radio S-OFF to flash recovery.img?
Is there any way to do this without Eng and radio S-off?
Ok almost done the above.
How do I know if Clockwork Mod is gone? I guess the red triangle when I click on recovery means its gone?

I am getting a lot of errors about update script when flashing themes like Matted blues. The themes say they are compatible with CM7 but it seems my recovery is not compatible with the theme I am using ClockWorkMod version 3.0.0.5 what recovery version can I use that is compatible with CM7 and the themes in question?
Thanks
If this has been asked and answered I did try searching...
you can use version 2.6.0.1, the last one with Amend support and also WiMax backup (I've attached it to the post)
EDIT: I only had the img version to flash via Fastboot, hope it helps!
Here, I fixed the file. I looked at it and was missing the txt file. Rename it to PC36IMG [don't change the extension as its already a zip file] and then boot into the bootloader, accept and restart and it'll flash the recovery for you.

Flashing that version in ROM Manager because the older recoveries listed weren't meant for the Evo, so you'll get an error or it won't flash at all.

lmao I tried ALL slashes! I just read I need to have .076 ENG Hboot for fastboot to work. I dont have that, at least I dont think I do. Mine is H-Boot 2.10.0001
Still its fishy that the file you made earlier doesnt work, says no image
Hmm, let me try it right now.
And still no image after you renamed it?

Yep, I tried PC36IMG.zip, and without the .zip. both gave me No Image in green hella fast. Then it goes away. I tried another PC36IMG from another thread, same recovery, same thing, no image in green....
Weird, I ran the same one I uploaded on the first page, changed the name, and it came up for me in the bootloader.
Edit: ran it 1 minute ago

When you flash the theme in recovery, what happens? You got the edify and it not being compatible message?

Let me see if I can find it...and I don't know WHY renaming the file to PC36IMG from the zip I uploaded isn't working for you, and I also am on the latest HBOOT.
Hi everyone. I need some help. My friend bricked his SLCD Droid Incredible by flashing some AMOLED Incredible something on it. I think the phone works, but the screen doesn't. As I understand, I can flash this: http://v5.lscache7.c.android.client...on_WWE_3.26.605.1_3.21.605.1_release_sign.zip on it and it'll fix it. Is that correct? And if so, can someone walk me through exactly what I need to do to flash that zip file? Right now, it's on the phone's sd card, named update.zip, and all I need to do is get into recovery and flash it. Problem is, I'm not sure how to get from wherever I am when I boot the phone up pressing volume down to the recovery, and I'm not sure which option flashing the update.zip is in CWM. Can someone give me some help?
Thanks!

if the phone works its not bricked. have him download a rom that is meant for his screen. you can use the physical keys to flash it.
EDIT:
i dont know where you got the zip so i cant help with that. but if you boot into recovery you will see an option to install the zip. just navigate to it and click it.
You will have to blind flash a stock froyo PB31IMG.zip thru hboot. You can get it here http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=22.
Download the file above and rename it to exactly PB31IMG.zip and place it on the root of your sd in no folders. Pull the battery, reinsert it and then boot into hboot (vol down + power). Dont press anything for 15 minutes then hit vol up, it should reboot after a couple secs then wait 30 minutes and press vol up again. The phone should reboot and boot normal.
Awesome, that worked great. Thanks a ton.
One question, though... Is this supposed to return me to stock HTC Sense, or is it normal that it's still running Cyanogenmod?

It should have returned you to compleet stock froyo 2.2 or gingerbread (depending on the PB31IMG you downloaded), other than still having s-off
It fixed the screen, but I bootlooped on the CM7 boot animation for whatever reason. I just flashed the zip again and it worked fine
