I am getting a lot of errors about update script when flashing themes like Matted blues. The themes say they are compatible with CM7 but it seems my recovery is not compatible with the theme I am using ClockWorkMod version 3.0.0.5 what recovery version can I use that is compatible with CM7 and the themes in question?
Thanks
If this has been asked and answered I did try searching...
you can use version 2.6.0.1, the last one with Amend support and also WiMax backup (I've attached it to the post)
EDIT: I only had the img version to flash via Fastboot, hope it helps!
Here, I fixed the file. I looked at it and was missing the txt file. Rename it to PC36IMG [don't change the extension as its already a zip file] and then boot into the bootloader, accept and restart and it'll flash the recovery for you.
Yes, Thanks!
I am still S-ON but I think I am able to flash this version with Rom Manager. If not it gives me a reason to go S-OFF, LOL

Flashing that version in ROM Manager because the older recoveries listed weren't meant for the Evo, so you'll get an error or it won't flash at all.

I renamed it and when I boot into boot loader it finds the file and opens it then says something like no image, wrong image, then I have no option to do anything with it.
edit...I even downloaded clockwork 2.6.0.1 from another thread and got the same thing, no image, wrong image. Its says some other stuff but it goes by so fast its hard to read, lol.
could it not support my H-Boot...2.10.0001
OK, I am S-OFF now via Unrevoked Forever. What are commands to flash with fastboot? Recovery is sitting on root of Sd Card as "recovery"
Thanks
i tried fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and it returns Error: can not load 'recovery.img'

I tried that via PC36IMG with clockwork's 2.6.0.1 and it kept telling me no image, wrong image, a bunch of stuff. It all goes by so fast I couldnt read it all.
I also renamed the recovery to recovery.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
error: can not load "recovery.img"
fastboot flash recovery \sdcard\recovery.img
fastboot flash recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
they all return the error can not load recovery.img
Whats the deal, is it diff then the HTC Hero???

Yep, I tried PC36IMG.zip, and without the .zip. both gave me No Image in green hella fast. Then it goes away. I tried another PC36IMG from another thread, same recovery, same thing, no image in green....
Weird, I ran the same one I uploaded on the first page, changed the name, and it came up for me in the bootloader.
Edit: ran it 1 minute ago

Okay, so I just finished completing the guide on how to root 2.2, and I read on the forums that some people were having trouble installing CM6 with the method, and a different HBOOT was required. I flashed the HBOOT from showthread.php?t=75283 and now my phone will not boot. It keeps going to the Bootloader, any ideas as to what I can do?
[Edit]
I can get into Amon_Ra recovery fine

Wipe, then flash CM6 or something else from recovery.
To flash a rom, put the zip file on the SD card in the bottom folder. Get into the Amon ra recovery. Clear your cache. Flash the zip file. All done.
Btw, before you clear the cache and flash the zip do a man's backup... Always do a man's backup. That's what will save you if you screw up.

I'm still pretty new to this stuff, so bare with me. And please if someone notices a mistake in this guide let me know so I can change/fix it.
First of all you need to make sure you've fully completed all the steps (including part 2) for rooting 2.2. Make sure you're in recovery, this guide will flash Amon_RA 1.8.0. After that it's pretty simple:
1) Download the PC36IMG.zip from
forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7889836&postcount=18
2) Copy it in zip format to the tools directory of your android SDK, mine is
C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
3) Open cmd from the tools location
Windows 7: highlight the tools folder, then shift + right click and hit "open command window here". cmd window should pop up that has the location of the tools folder.
4) Type
adb push PC36IMG.zip /sdcard/
To make sure it transferred okay, go to flash zip in recovery and see if the file is there.
5) Back out of recovery into the boot loader by rebooting the phone (should be an option in recovery somewhere)
6) click bootloader once your evo starts up, and it should auto detect the new PC36IMG.zip and ask for you to apply update, apply it and reboot. You should now have the 0.76 bootloader and Amon_RA 1.8.0.
7) You can now delete the PC36IMG.zip file if you want by typing
adb shell
rm PC36IMG.zip
This next part if only for cyanogen mod, but it should be pretty similar to other ROMs.
1) Download all files needed for cyanogen mod (both the ROM and Google Aps)
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735596
I also suggest you download the latest radio from XDA as well.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
2) Place all the files in the tools folder exactly as they are.
3) Boot into recovery on your evo.
4) Open a cmd prompt from the tools folder just like in step 3 in part 1
5) Type:
adb push EVO_Radio_2.15.00.07.28.zip /sdcard/
adb push update-cm-6.0.0-Supersonic-signed.zip /sdcard/
adb push gapps-hdpi-20100817-signed.zip /sdcard/
6) Chose flash zip in recovery and flash radio.zip, reboot the phone
7) Go back into recovery
8) Wipe your SDCard (cache/davlk-cache/etc.)
9) Flash cyanogemod ROM and then Google Apps
You should now have an updated radio, Cyanogen mod and the latest google apps. Good luck, if you have any questions please let me know. I'm pretty new at this android stuff but I'll try to help the best I can.

That thread has a download for HBOOT 0.79.
Here's a direct link:
http://www.mattwhitlock.com/hboot-0.79.0000.7z
I went to http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/ and located a previous (2.5.0.5) cwm zip as I've been having some issues with 2.5.1.2. So I booted into cwm and flashed the zip and the cwm version switched to 2.5.0.5, but when I rebooted the phone ROM manager displayed the current cwm as 2.5.1.2 and the same was true for when I booted back into cwm.
Is there a trick I need to be aware of and/or should I be using the img as opposed to the zip (and if so how do I do this)?
Thanks.
A new recovery needs to be flashed from Hboot. So rename it PB31IMG.zip, boot into Hboot (volume down and power) and it will prompt you to update.

Do I rename the zip to that or do I zip the img and then rename it? Or do I just rename the img?
Renaming the zip got me to "Parsing zip" in hboot but then nothing, I assume this is because there is no img within the zip.
This may seem obvious, but you did download the one for the Inc? You should just have to download the .zip and rename it.
I did indeed dl the one for the inc haha.
There is no img within the zip though, is that normal?
I'll have to take a look when I get home, I'm on a work computer and my resources are limited. Sorry for the wait, but I'll look as soon as I can, let me know if you get it figured out before then.
Here's the instuctions with a link for 2.5.0.5 to flash it using ADB, which I will probably do when I get home I upgraded jut to try downgrading and I'm having the same problem, we'll get it figured out.
Here's the proper zip, which gets flashed in HBOOT.

Though this time when I boot into recovery it shows 2.5.0.5, and it's allowing me to backup SkyRaider v3.5 so I think we're in business.
You know that little voice that tells you to stop and think about what you are about to do....well I didn't 'listen. I have just enough experience to be dangerous....which is why I am writing this thread.
I have a rooted EVO. It was rooted with Unrevoked 3. I was using Clockwork and had flashed several ROMs. Most recently using CM7. I have Nandroid backups and all was well.
In a comedy of errors my original nandroid file was deleted so that I had no was of returning to the stock EVO ROM. I was trying to update CM7 so that i could use the GPS. To do thisI had to flash Sense based ROM so that I could use the MSD(??) and then reflash my CM7 and voila, your GPS works.
Well I couldn't get any new roms to work. I tried several and they all crashed. I then had the great idea to use RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.1_Radio_1.39.00.04.26_release_171253.exe to restore my EVO back to stock. Bad idea.
I now have a phone that boots straight into Fastboot. I can choose bootloader and get to the HBOOT screen. When I choose the recovery it looks like all is well. The phone goes into the white HTC screen but then goes to a Red Triangle/Exclamation Mark screen. I can get out of this screen by pressing the power button and vol up button. It goes to and Android system recovery screen.
My choices are
reboot system now
apply sdcard: update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
I have tried placing the PC36IMG.zip (downloaded from xda) file in the root directory. I get a signature verification failed if I try to install the update file from any other custom ROMs. Installation aborted.
All I want is to get my phone back.
I currently have HBOOT 0.79.0000 with S-OFF
Please help

"So you're saying there is still a chance." Thanks guys. I'll get on this today.
Just a quick question. Do I need to rename these files to "update-'file name'.zip" ?
Boot into the bootloader, with the attached zip file exactly as it is. Don't changed the name or extract it. Once in the bootloader, select yes to update, this is amon_ra 2.3 recovery. If you want clockwork recovery, let me know.
When I boot into the Boot Loader I get this:
HBOOT
SD Checking
Loading...[PC36DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PC36DIAG.nbh]
No image!
Loading...[PC36IMG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PC36IMG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Oh my GOSH! I finally got it! Thank you thank you thank you! I was using the wrong PC36img.zip file. Not really sure why there are several different versions of this...a newbie statement I'm sure.
The root script linked to in my sig can be used to update your phone if you wanted to use it for that, once it sees you have S-OFF it will skip all the rooting stuff and go straight to flashing the updated ROM radios and recovery. Afterward just use rom manager to flash clockwork and you'll be good to go.
edit: nm, just saw you got it

What was the PC36IMG & why did you need it? You need to download a PC36IMG.zip of Amon Ra or CWM. Don't rename, update in the bootloader.

This confuses me a bit. You somehow ended up with a PC36IMG on your sd card that you had no idea what it was, then it asked you to update, and you said yes, not even knowing what it was? Is that accurate? Does your bootloader still show S off? If you flashed a PC36IMG of a factory ROM you may be S on and unrooted, so check that first. If you're still s off, and you can boot into the OS, then the easiest way for you to get Clockwork back would be to download ROM manager, and use that to flash clockwork. Just select 'flash clockwork mod recovery'. If you did in fact run a PC36IMG of the factory rom, you'll most likely need to install the Super User app again in order for ROM manager to work.
I'm very curious of what the heck you flashed, and how you didn't know what it was, lol. A little more info would be great. Are you still on the same ROM you were before you flashed it? What were the results of flashing the PC36IMG? Can you boot up?
Same thing happened to me a few days ago. Nothing is briked. Some how. After a few reeboots all came back to normal.
I fixed it, but now I am trying to get back my original backup and everythime I try it says:
Checking MD5 sums…
Erasing boot before restore…
Restoring boot image…
Error while flashing boot image!
I think my HBOOT isnt the write version but im not sure.
I was on one of the older Hboots, decided to update that and the radio. I flashed the new Hboot, now it says S-On and it DOES NOT reboot. Everytime I try rebooting, it shows the splash screen and goes right back to the Hboot menu! Can anyone help me?
Try running unrevoked forever from the recovery and it may let you unlock it. If not you may be stuck.
Ok, I got S-off back by unrevoked-forever, but it still doesn't reboot. Anyone have any suggestions?

Go into your recovery and wipe everything then reflash your Rom. If you can't access your recovery flash a recovery image of your choice via bootloader by renaming it PC36IMG and placing it on the root of your SD card then wipe everything and reflash your Rom.

Yeah, I think I had .93 Hboot, maybe should have just stayed with that, I dunno.
if it's bouncing you back to hboot it could be for the same reason it bounces you back to recovery after using a format_all.zip file.
Go find Sprint Lover's 2.3. It comes in a PC36IMG file you can put in the root of your sd card and flash in the bootloader (aka parsing the update).
It's rooted so you'll keep s-off and your phone should boot. Also, once you're booted, download rom manager and put your recovery back
Hope this helps!
