I just got a used Evo, and as part of my setup I had to call *2 to contact Sprint. As soon as I press the "Call" button, it crashes com.android.phone. I've tried to clear data for Dialer, clear data through Recovery, and tried a bunch of different ROMs, but I just get the same problem.
I'm guessing this is probably a common or known issue, but I didn't manage to find anything on it. I've tried this from Myn's,MikFroyo, EViO, and probably a few more. Regular calls work fine.
Anyone have any suggestions?
"Try Sprint Lovers ROM".... *2 uses an app from Sprint that I'm pretty sure most if not all of those roms have removed.
The rom I mentioned above from what I've read about it is basically a optimized and rooted version of thestock Sprint EVO rom.
Or just flash a rooted stock rom.

That's because you have to install the "Sprint Zone" apk, which in most cases is not included with the ROMs. you can get it in Dev section under Myns warm twopointtwo "uninstalled app" folder on the first page

Ive search through numerous evo threads but found no answers. Ive been rooted for about a month and about 2 days ago I stopped being able to receive calls and texts, but I am able to connect to my google account and receive mail on wifi and 4g and I am able to make calls and send texts out on the network. Was using Calkulin's 1.8 rom when this happened.
I have an 003 evo, and I out the sprint lovers rom back on just to make sure it wasnt the rom,,still behaving the same.
I have updated PRL +Profile, flashed and reflashed a couple different roms.
Any ideas?
##3282# ,edit mode. Once your in there you have to find data. I am not on a sense rom and dont remember exactly where it is. Under advanced maybe..just look around. Once your in data hit menu, restore.
You have to know your msl to do this so get msl reader from the market first and write it down.
This also assumes your still on a sense rom.
Not positive itll work but its with a shot!

The above method can still work, if you don't have one, you should flash a sense rom and make a backup of it just for these types of instances.
I literally *just* had this problem. It happened after I installed CM7, with exactly the problems you had. I flashed dozens of ROMs, wiped, radios, re-wiped, etc.: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950922
I had to take it to a Sprint store to get it fixed. They said all they did was a hard reset -- but when I got my phone back, I noticed the HBOOT was back at 0.97 and the radios were out of date, on an August 2010 version.
I have no idea what they did to fix this. I hope someone here can expand on this, I would really like to know how I could go about fixing this on my own in case it happens again. Try giving them a call from a landline to see if they can get it fixed.
If you go the customer service route, make sure you un-root before you do anything (follow the 2-step guide). I rooted right after I got my phone back with no problems.
Alright I've tried to search some of these issues but I've never once had XDA forums search actually work for me, so sorry if these have been addressed.
Anyways
[1] I've recently installed SyndicateROM 1.0 and upgraded my Twilight Kernel to the latest (1.0.1 I think?). Lately I've been getting a lot of strange FC's telling me that the "Google Services Framework com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly. This happens whenever I reboot or just running through some apps and that leads me to #2.
[2] Roam Control. I'm unable to use this at all due to the error stated above. I select my device, hit automatic and it immediately crashes with the Framework error. I'm sure if I can solve #1, #2 will fix itself
[3] The slide-out keyboard is extremely unresponsive. It's almost worth not even having one when I have to type so slowly to be sure every letter I press makes it to the input. Coming from a Droid1 this is a huge disappointment as the D1 keyboard was as responsive as any laptop computer.
Anyways, again, sorry if these were addressed I just can't get the search to work on XDA ever. If anyone has insight on these, I'd appreciate it.
Re-flashing your ROM will probably clear up the Force Closes. Start from stock EB13 and go from there. Make sure and wipe data and cache several time, etc.
So far the least issues I've personally had was starting from stock EB13, installing clockworkmod 3 and converting to ext4(make sure you have a compatible kernel), then just removing what I don't want on my phone with the 'SDX Stock App Remover'. I know my evidence is anecdotal but whenever I've run custom ROM's I've always had nothing but problems with them, so ymmv.
i to have a kyboard proble and went to the froze rom to fix this.... fyi can u tell if im on the epic 4g or not ?? annoying

Can you get rom manager to work while using this rom or no?
Before I get n00b bashed, I did "Search this thread" for the answer... (and other forums) Maybe I am just too n00b? Anyway, here goes.
Given kudos on this ROM already (Syndicate Rom: Frozen...anything is better than stock Froyo, but this is just AMAZING). But I was having some troubles with receiving incoming calls. Caller always got "All circuits busy" Or "cannot complete call as dialed".
Soooo, I wiped and reflashed. Tried to make a call (before restoring titanium backups) it worked, but my girl was still having troubles calling me...
So I restored most of my titanium backup (stuff that mattered?) and when trying to call out, I get "com.android.phone stopped working" and had to forcibly close it. So, I specifically restored phone 1.0 and contacts and all that from my titanium Backup, and still got the same issue. I am currently backing up stuff to my computer off the phone, going to format the card and do a fresh flash and see if that helps.
Thing to note, my account IS linked with Google Voice. Could that be an issue? And if not, is anyone else having this issue? Seriously the ONLY problem I am having with this rom. Thanks, guys!
Edit. Wipe and reflash did not help, however the phone is running MUCH better! Still not getting phone calls, though. Data works, MMS, etc, spotty 3G acceptance, though. Starting to get a bit aggravating. ANY help would be GRAND.
*sigh* think I got it. Flashed a different modem (EC03?) and it did not work, then flashed BACK to EC05 (AFTER the fresh flash) and it seems to have rectified the issue. HUGE thanks to QBKING77 (if that is his name on here) for the AWESOME video tuts and great linking to the site. I will update if call status changes. But I would still be interested in knowing if anyone else was having the same issues?
Sorry no one ever got to you for help. The Q&A section doesn't exactly have dedicatedhelpers. =/
I'll be trying to help this section more. So please do update if it comes again.

No worries. My girl and I gave it another go this morning, and all went well. Also received all my calld last night with no issue. Definitely made my girl a happy camper. Lol. Now I just have to calibrate my battery when I get to work, and all will be golden!

the only thing I could think of is did you "freeze" any apps in titanium LOL yes I froze the wrong thing once and got the same error's I think it was the voice mail stuff seeing i went to gvoice didn't think I needed it but I did.
Nope. All apps were left unfrozen, just because I am too n00b for that chit, lol.
However, I flashed the EC05, and all incoming calls (90%) seem to be coming to me. Odd part is, it SHOULD be going to my voicemail if it cannot be dialed. I am thinkin Sprint is to blame, and I need to have it out with them.
*sigh*
Oh well, everything else is tits... Just waiting EAGERLY for 1.2... Chompin at the bit and all that!
Might get bored tonight and flash back to stock... see if I have the same problem.
Question. Let's say I want to "image" my phone the way it is right now (kinda like Norton Ghost used to do?) Flash back to stock, yadda yadda... Is there a way to RESTORE my phone as is (every byte) back with clockwork? Or is that what Nandroid does? Because if I flash back to Stock, play for a bit (see if it is sprint's fault) and want to flash back, I will have to reconvert back to EXT4... using clockwork 3.0, should I just use the .zip (.img?) that nandroid creates instead of the base ROM?
If any of that makes sense, kudos will be given for a clear answer, lol
just loaded Emerald Envy 2.0....
Absolutely love the ROM, but I can no longer receive calls. I've tried the wipe (x3), re-downloaded the ROM, no joy. no combination that I can think of. Have tried all the latest modems (EC05/EF02), no joy.
I did notice that the phone log does log that a call was received, but it never rings or brings up the phone application.
I also tried flashing the Genocide 1.1 kernal. no joy.
I'm about to go back to my Midnight ROM that I Nandroid'd earlier today before I started down this road. Really hope I don't have to, i'm hooked on this ROM!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My errors seem to be different than yours. Mine would not show up in my call log at all, nor would the calls go to voicemail. Are your callers able to leave messages?
Mine turned out to be a sprint/phone issue. Their networks have been all kinds of crappy in my area since january. Sucks, but all I could do was call, complain, and get credits.
My new epic seems to be working fine, and sprint seems to have fixed their issues in my area. I was running 1.2 up until last night with no issues callin/receiving. I only updated to the latest GB leak because it is hella stable and netflix works. Just seems to have some 3d issues. But I do not game much on here.
Keep troubleshooting, and give 1.2 a whirl. While your problem is not ROM related, I am very confident your experience (and battery) will be much better.
Oh. And call Sprint. Complain and whine. You will get credit on your bill. Lol.
Sent from my Epic. Which is better than yours.
Just used my upgrade, got the SGS2 Epic 4G Touch, and wanted to give my wife my Evo which is running the latest nightly of CM7. I had completely wiped the phone, flashed CM7 etc..., signed her on with her Google info and downloaded all her apps and so forth so she could play with it and see if she wanted to use it. After one day, she said she did want to switch over to the Evo (from a Sprint Optimus S). So at this point it was functional with wifi, but I needed to call Sprint and actually switch the phone number and activate it.
I called Sprint....
They went thru whatever they do on their end, we did a test call out from it (which oddly went to a "Welcome to Verizon Wireless" message, and I thought I was good.
So, after getting off the phone I tried to make a call to the Evo and the Evo didn't ring, and it went to her voicemail greeting. I tried to call out from the Evo, and it said the same Verizon message, but the rest of the message I didn't stay on the line to hear from the first time was that the account couldn't be validated.
So I called Sprint back, and long story short ( I know, too late), the Evo is still tied to my old number and didn't update. Since I have CM7 on there, trying to use the dial pad programming wouldn't work.
The customer service person, who even though I explained that I had a custom rom on the phone did seem to try to help, said that if I did a factory reset, it may come up and switch over, or if I loaded the original HTC Sense software back, that may take care of it.
So, just looking for advice on what would be my best next move.
Thanks for any assistance, John
Download and install something like a rooted stock sense rom.
Çall sprint back and do the process all over. Once you have confirmed everything is okay then switch back your cm7 rom.
You can't activate with aosp use a stock sense rom
Deck's + SZ + SuperCharger script + ViperMod script.
Thanks very much guys,
Any chance I could get a recommendation link for the correct type of rom?
I also just did a nandroid so I can get back to where I was...
One link to any rom that would be suitable for this?
Suggestions?
Team Nocturnal's Stock here
I would suggest a clean install of a new ROM after activating, not using any Nandroids to make sure everything works after activation
Try SOS. Its in dev

Thanks very much everyone! After work this evening, I used Nocturnals rom, activated with Sprint, and fresh install of CM7. The wife is a happy camper. I appreciate the help.

Long time fan; first time post.
I was hoping this posting had provided a solution, but the 'Contacts Fix' did not help with my apparent issue:
(Synergy ROM) Phone app now not working?
I'm lovin' the Synergy ROM, however every time I start up the phone, I always get the 'com.android.phone has stopped' error.
Please, would anyone like to take a look at the Logcats provided?
Attached in the zip file are two logcats. One records my attempt to make a phone call; the other I hope reflects what's happening when the phone is starting up: AttemptedPhoneCall.txt & StartingUpPhone.txt
Sure, I could go back to my High On Android ROM (Have to give a nod to its author, Max of GalaxyS3root.com), but it was Max that raved about Synergy in the first place, and it has grown on me.
Despite the fact I can't send or receive any calls. I can text and surf, but it's not a phone anymore.
I never received that error on Synergy, but I have seen it on other ROMs. Have you tried a full wipe and reflash? In my experience, flashing Synergy worked best when I flashed it from another TW based ROM.
You could try a different kernel such as ktoonsez kernel. I had a lot of issues with the standard ziggy kernel when I used synergy

Thanks, altrikdout21.
Yes, I intend to. I was just curious if there were some developers out there that like to look at logcats for kicks.
Didn't think of that.

Problems with the ziggy, uh?
Ok, I'll try another and let you know.
Thanks, Domoo.
Got it working...almost sort ya.
Restored my last ROM, HighOnAndroid. I did do the reflash of Synergy with a stock kernel, but there was no improvement, and so I restored my previous ROM. I can now start up the phone without the 'com.android.phone has stopped' error. However, there's a problem. I still can't make a phone call! Yikes! Now how can that be??? I did a ROM restore. Shouldn't the phone app be back as it was? It appears all the other apps are working. I can text, surf, etc. What's happening here?
I start up the phone app, select a contact, press the phone icon on the contact's screen, it comes up like it's going to initiate a call but then I see the 'end call' just as fast and the phone app then retreats back to the previous screen listing the contact I had selected to call.
As an aside, is there a place to drop off you logcats on this forum? Being an old VB programmer (what's that you ask?!), I'm curious to see what these new fangled 'android programmers' can do. However, now I'm ever more anxious to find out what's wrong with the phone app since I've restored my ROM only to find the one lone thing I do use regularly (it's a phone for pete sake!) is still not working.
