All,
I have a PSP and toying with the idea of getting the PSP 290 GPS receiver http://gpstekreviews.com/2007/03/20/sony-gps-receiver-psp-290-for-play-station-portable-psp-review/ which is mini-USB interface.
I was wondering if there was at some point any hope of making it work with a WM6 Smartphone device and whatever SW running on it and make double use of the same device
First issue may in fact come from the physical connectivity since it is designed to fit nicely in the PSP and therefore has 2 little "prongs" which may cause problem when trying to fit inside my S710.
Comments are welcome!
Thanks
only 2 or 3 of the htc devices support usb host which is required
for a pda to use other usb devices
Do you think there will ever be a dock like this for the droid X or a mod To have the Droid X work with the Atrix because the phones are a little similar i guess 0.0?

probably not but i do hope there will be
i would enjoy a multimedia dock(like the atrix one) as well
Without the dual core chip the laptop would be so slow... the x is great, but it just doesn't have the guts to provide a
Great docking experience.(short of overclocking it like crazy.)

nah.. but
Probably not, BUT; theres still "some" hope.. i think its totally doable, and sooner or later, someone is gonna develop an app or a rom capable of.. or a combination of the two; that'll allow us to use the HDMI port as a video output...
Id be happy with that.
There was once an app, but got cancelled by the developer.
real hdmi lets you use the hdmi port as an output

In my experience, realhdmi is far from a perfect solution. But so far it is the best solution.

The concept seems simple, but I have no idea how difficult the implementation would be.
Use the HDMI as video out (it looks fine when I plug my Coby Kyros into my TV, seems a phone would be the same / better). Use the USB as a mouse - I know that Android is designed for touch screen, but I thought you could use a mouse for it.
Anyway, the concept seems simple, but perhaps my concept oversimplifies the matter.
If a 3rd party vendor could make a device independent dock, and price it reasonably, I think it would sell like hotcakes. At least, the same people that would buy the Coby (like me) to root it and do what they want with it would buy a 3rd party dock and use it with their phones.
My wife, who doesn't overly love technology, loved her driod when I finally conviced her to get it. If she could get a dock for it, she would likely never use her laptop.
A device specific dock seems ... ridiculous, for an open source platform.
I upgraded my Coby Kyros last night to Gingerbread - 2.3.1 using tipster's work over at (kyros-tablet-zone.team-talk.net).
I also did some research on the different Android offerings / versions.
Starting with 3.1, whose features were imported in 2.3.4, mice and other devices can now be attached via the USB cable.
After reading the snippet from the Android dev platform highlihts This seems good and bad in the quest for a generic dock. It looks like USB support may be app specific, and also may have hardware requirements (i.e. to use a dock, your phone may need to have some requirment for it.). I've pasted the snippet from the dev platfrom notes below.
(I'm still too new to post links)
developer.android.com/sdk/android-3.1-highlights.html
Connectivity for USB accessories
Android 3.1 adds broad platform support for a variety of USB-connected peripherals and accessories. Users can attach many types of input devices (keyboards, mice, game controllers) and digital cameras. Applications can build on the platform’s USB support to extend connectivity to almost any type of USB device.
The platform also adds new support for USB accessories — external hardware devices designed to attach to Android-powered devices as USB hosts. When an accessory is attached, the framework will look for a corresponding application and offer to launch it for the user. The accessory can also present a URL to the user, for downloading an appropriate application if one is not already installed. Users can interact with the application to control powered accessories such as robotics controllers; docking stations; diagnostic and musical equipment; kiosks; card readers; and much more.
The platform’s USB capabilities rely on components in device hardware, so support for USB on specific devices may vary and is determined by device manufacturers."

It would be cool but I dont think the x has enough umphf for it to be worth while.

hey guys found a good intresting news..
samsung wave (senior wave) hardware is capable of usb hosting at full speed of 12mbps.
check this out.
pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2247&view=1&c=samsung_gt-s8500_wave_2gb
But unfortunately this feature is not available in bada.
hope future bada or android port enables us to use usb hosting.
Didn't knew flash is also EEPROM.
Wondering who said them that it has got USB Host mode, so far we can be sure that it has got hardware support for USB OTG.
Also nice to see that a 8GB version of the wave was planned but never reached the customer. But there muste be some some prototypes of it (found an early review of the 8GB wave somewhere).
That is so cool! In Samsung galaxy SL, android supports the OTG,but, the phone doesn't..and here, it is vice-verse!
The audio company Fiio has been talking about creating a USB DAC that works specifically with ICS. Problem is, I've only ever read of vague support of the idea from Google and zero software suggesting this is even an option. Has anyone else tried to make this work and, if so, does it? Love to know what the gentleman who created Voodoo Control thinks about this.
If it ever did work, you might see a huge migration of audiophiles from the iPhone (which allows for limited DAC access to limited devices through the dock) to Android (which would allow access to budget USB DACs costing hundreds of dollars less).
I'd really like to know this too. The internal DAC in the SGSII sucks, and it doesn't even have any kind of unamplified line-out. If I could use an external DAC that would solve all (or at least most) of my audio issues with it.
There are some custom ROMs for some devices that are working with USB DACs. Nook color, Archos G9, Nexus 1 and maybe some other devices. There is some experimental USB DAC support in RedPill Kernell for SGS2 but I couldn't make it work with my SGS2+FIIO E10+USB powered HUB.
I have a chinese tablet, Ainol Novo 8 Adv and there are some ROMs that have the libraries needed, but there is no way to route android audio to the USB DAC. Alsa recognizes the DAC but nothing happens.
We should ask Google to implement it. Look at this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1490151
USB DAC's Working on GS3 too...
Hey
Rooted and flashes my HTC Wildfire Buzz (A3333) to CM. Now I'm a persistent aircrack-ng user on linux platform and I know it's possible to get custom made drivers from a blog somewhere on working for some Broadcast chipsets. My phone has a Qualcomm MSM7225 / ARM1136EJ-S chipset and thus not compatible.
I've been thinking to get an external USB adapter to get monitor anyway. Now before buying it, I wanted to hear you guys out to ask if my phone will recognize it as a genuine adapter without installing any further drivers.. Also would the phone have enough battery output to supply both the phone and adapter. Last, I wanted to ask some of you that already own one to give me some tips on the "better" external usb adapters, which ones do I pick?
Thanks in advance
