[Q] Touch delay - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
is there anything you can do to fix the touch "delay" and make it more like the ipod/iphone/WM7 touch experience? I would love it but with my DHD Revolution the action is ca. 0.25 sec delayed and that sucks a bit. Will Android 2.3 fix it or is the problem just HTC Sense?
syl0r

1. you can try "spare parts" from the market.
2. change kernel

what touch delay lol

i dont know if its only on my DHD (but i dont think so).
There is a little delay for me so its not like the experience on an iphone
(the only thing that i think is better on iphones) but i cant really believe that its impossible to fix it.
@Tomrec
1. Spare parts doesnt seem to work
2. as i said im using DHD revolution and i think it has one of the best kernels
but thanks for your answer

same as this problem after install RDHD touch screen less than sensitivity, and to day
i try to touch galaxy tab it smooth and fast more than htc desire hd ...Why?

do no what to say...i have not experienced any touch delay (except maybe few seconds after reboot and after i just flash it something ) and i am also using Android revolution...but i didn't have any delay when i was on stock Rom either....but i read on some post that some guys experienced some lag with revolution rom and switched to Leedroid and everything was fine.
in my (very humble) opinion...try to reflash Revolution rom (ofcourse, first, CWM backup, Titanium back up), wipe data and Delvik cache, and see how "how smooth is after that"...if not ...switch to Leedroid

Thanks for your answer i'll try it

still got the delay after wiping and flashing leedroid ...
@teerapong have you ever used WM7 or iphone?
There isnt any delay.
You can recognize the delay when you are in the menu and are sliding fast
with your finger over the screen. Then you see that it takes
a bit that the point where you started to slide with reaches your
finger again(delay).

Buggy digitizer perhaps.. never had any delay though.. The only delay that i had was at the first boot up, after that, buttery smooth, in Cm7 as well as miui.. never tried leedroid or ar hd..

Froyo screen sensitivity

Has anyone noticed that on all the Froyo 2.2 roms the screen seems less sensitive than 2.1? At first I thought my Desire was lagging but I don't think it is. It does it mainly in the browser and makes scrolling awkward. Is there a fix or some setting that can be applied to make the screen react a bit better? It's almost as if they changed the UI to wait a little before reacting?
Hmm... not noticed this myself. You could try a hard reset or re-calibrate the screen (for keyboard). Could it be your screen protector if using one?
Also, are you sure its not your digitiser that might need replacing, or as you suggested, do you only notice this since switching from 2.1?
Regards,
Mas.

Nonono, he means all the custom FroYo 2.2 roms

Yeah I mean the custom froyo roms. Not the digitiser or screen protector just feels less sensitive.

i agree, and i have the official rom. it feels less sensitive, mainly when scrolling web pages.
Using a rooted 2.2 ROM based of the official release from HTC, and yes i've also noticed this.
Do you all have Adobe Flash 10.1 beta turned on? Even simple Flash ad-banners will affect the performance of the browser/device, for an smooth experience within the browser it's smart to switch the plugin settings in the browser settings to "on demand".
Set the plugins to ondemand, it will increase the browser scroll responsiveness.

Maybe but it's not like it's lagging or anything, at least not for me, it's just that sometimes it seems that i have to press again, or press harder to make stuff happen. Like scrolling, or closing the keyboard.
I had reinstalled the keyboard and calibration settings from my last ROM and things remained the same, as expected.

[Q] My Desire HD is very slow?

Hi all,
I got my Desire HD about 4 weeks ago, and used it quite a lot, with barely any apps installed. (I never use app killers by the way) Over time i realised it was actually acting quite slow for a phone with it's spec, so i asked Vodafone and they sent me another one.
My new one, that i've had for 2 weeks now is still slow for what i would expect from a phone like this, and i'm not just being fussy either.
My friend has an X10 mini, and was showing me the other day, and i was shocked at how much more responsive and faster it is than my Desire HD, so i looked up lag issues and found xda developers.
I tried enabling USB debugging, checked for the latest update, rebooted etc.. it feels like i'm only getting, what... 25 frames per second at best? usually looks about 20 (in menus) when compared to my friends X10 mini, his looks as if it's easily scrolling up and down the drop down or popup menu with all of your apps in it, at 60 frames, (something above 30 anyway with NO lag whatsoever) and i have yet to flick my menu without seeing some degree of jitter while scrolling. I downloaded the Quadrant Benchmark and found I got 2002 Points, which when looked at in the graph.. there is no way the x10 mini could even scratch the DHD's score... so...
WHY does my phone feel sluggish? Is this normal or should I be concerned?
Thanks
-J
Here is what i did:
- Install ES Task Manager and add the widget and run it often. (Make sure to add the apps to the ignore list that you do not want to close)
- Remove as many widgets as possible from screen
- Install LauncherPro (It speeded things up a hell of alot for me)
- And most importantly, if your SD Card has a lot of stuff on it (Music etc) then delete as much as you can. The less on your SD Card the faster it will be.
I've Tried that...
Hey, before I wrote this, I tried formatting the phone and did a factory reset, the menu STILL lags and jitters quite a bit. Surely this isn't supposed to happen on a fresh version of the phone with NO user junk on there? and I've heard that task kilelrs are bad for the system, usually doing more damage than good.
Do you have anything on the SD Card?
I am not sure about that, the task manager on mine seems to be very good, i have stopped it from closing important apps which need to be open though.
Hmmm
No i don't have much on the SD, olny the files that the phone adds itself, i tried removing all of my user data already, still no sucess.
Try the task manager if you wish. It works perfectly fine for me and i have been using it for months.
OK
I just tried the task manager... made a little difference, but the menus still lag!
Try turning Auto Sync off for a while too... I am unsure why the menus are lagging. Mine seem fine. What menus lag?
The one where you tap the arrow in the bottom left, and all of your apps are on one page lags the worst. sometimes scrolling on the home screen too.
install launcherpro!!! the menu will ALLWAYS be laggy on ****ty HTC Roms..

same here, i`m using stock rom 1.72 flashed via RUU, OP maybe try to back`up your rom and flash a custom rom like revo or leedroid and see how it is...
ok try watchtower
and see how much RAM is used.
try to use another ROM, not sure if your service provider accept it.
i am sure it is a software added by your provider, or some settings needed.
i would go to:
- format the SD card - don't forget to back it up
- full reset my phone
still same problem ..... find a clean ROM and flash it.

Even tho i click usb debug, stil lag.
Only way to make sure its not lag is to use only HSDPA & 3g signal while browse..
I use stock rom, no root.

Leedroid 3.0.8.2

I've had 3.0.8.2 A2SD GB version installed for a few days now and have only found a couple of issues that really annoy me. For some reason there is a green "hue" when you reach the extent of a vertical scroll. Is there any way of shutting this off because it's so annoying. Vertical scroll isn't as smooth as previous versions, maybe something to do with the green "hue" maybe? I don't know.
Apart from that, memory usage seems to be managed better and battery life is awesome. Last night I was on the Market downloading and installing for maybe two hours. Battery was 100% when I started but only down to 97% by the time I finished. No battery saving app used either.
Thanks for this version, I like it.
One other thing I just remembered, when the screen lock is activated or deactivated the homescreen appears/disappears in a motion that's very similar to an old tube tv being tuned on/off. It's awful and it looks like the phone is faulty. Any way of changing this?
As both nuisances here mentioned are features of Gingerbread, I think you'd be best off returning to froyo rom.
great rom by Leedroid, but I have a very annoying issue with it...
I can't send/receive text massages smoothly. It crashes my massage process: I receive a text massage, I reply to it and press back or home, and after this my phone freezes and pops force close or wait box to choose from. Any solutions how to fix it? Or idea who may cause this?
p.s. I send/receive over 2k massages per month
More likely to get a reply in leedroids thread mate

[Q] data roaming issue on Cool Droid v3 ROM

hi all
I finally decided to give some new life to my HTC Desire, rooted it, S-OFFed it as well and after long search for most suitable ROM for me, flashed Cool Droid v3 Bravo on it.
ROM looks great and works fine, but it has only one big issue (so far) - I cannot turn on data roaming, it is turned off by default and tweaked to stay that way. As a noob, obviously I cannot post this question in specific thread about that ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1279016 so I have to ask here:
is there any fix for it, an advice or procedure how to change the script (I figured out that it's just a line in build.prop file but it doesn't allows me to change it). I'm not scared to tinker with it as long as it's not too complicated and makes sense.
I need it because I live in Europe, travel a lot and I use national roaming very often.
Please if anyone can help me, because this issue is a dealbreaker for me with this ROM and I'd hate that.
Thanks in advance
PS: the screenshot shows how the setting stays no matter what option I choose
Install a rom that hasnt got a lot of Verizon stuff in it.
I would, if I can find fast, stable and reliable ROM, based on GB and preferably with Sense on it.
I'm not into flashing new ROM every few days and trying out every custom ROM out there, I just need my phone to work well within its capabilities as I travel a lot and use it for work.
I guess that this data roaming issue shouldn't be too complicated to solve, it's a piece of cake for every developer...

well, I flashed this rom and been testing it last few days. It has pretty much all that I need but I find it quite heavy on my device. Too many times it slows down, lags and freezes, especially when running games and apps that need syncing. Also, quite a lot FCs. Battery drain is also significant.
I'm not sure where exactly the problem is, it just gets stuck with black screen and only notification bar is visible.
Any advice where to look at? Might it be kernel, radio or CPU issue?
thanks
A tip for ya when flashing that rom. When u first install it from recovery and reboot, when it boots past bootanimation and gets to the lockring.... Leave it settle for 15-20 mins, dont unlock. Then after 15-20 mins unlock then reboot. Then no force close, sounds mad but its true. U could try a different kernal, Droidzone has a few good 1s for sense 3.5 roms and also in settings/RCMix tweaks, u can fix permissions there, try that, it sometimes fixes force close. Im using Aurora v6 special edition, its android 2.3.5 and sense 3 and not 1 problem so far, great rom infact. Saying that, Runnymede aio s.e is my personal favourite sense 3.5 and never had any problems with it, but letting it settle for 15-20 mins is a must.
About the radio.... What do u have? Lastest is recommended.

I followed that flashing procedure pretty much, I was gentle and easy going right after flashing it, not rushing anything, left it to settle (maybe not 20 mins) and rebooted it again. Actually, FCs are not such a big issue like freezing. Usually 1fc comes on 5 freezes. My radio is 5.11.05.27, I haven't touched it since rooting the phone with Revolutionary. I kinda hesitate to flash it, I don't want to brick my device because I'm not sure about the right procedure.
As my name says, I'm just an ordinary noob, not too experienced with all this.
thanks
Did u do a full wipe before flashing.

I did a full wipe, formatting and partitioning SD card from the scratch (fat32 partition included), 4ext is 1GB... I did all following developer's recommended procedure step by step. SD card is brand new SanDisk 8 GB, class 6.
It works well after reboot, but after a while, as soon as several apps are opened, it lags and hangs heavily, making the phone unusable.
I'm not sure does it matter, but I moved all movable apps to "phone storage", except those that have widgets that I use. Yet, the phone still freezes even when using non-movable apps.
I'd flash it again right now but I get messed up contacts list every time because not all my contacts are on google and I have 1000+ in total, so after every restore I get many duplicates and triplicates, so I'd really like a solution that doesn't include another flashing.
Here is a better tip. Don't use sense 3+ if you want reliability. I recommend cool bravo s, but change the kernel.

I'd like to stick with this rom.. I do have lags but not when receiving a call, that's why I suppose that I just have to do some detailed tweaking and that's where I need help as I'm not experienced with it. FCs are actually not so bad, pretty much the same as I had them on my stock froyo so I can live with that. Battery drain is there though, but I've been using the phone intensively since flashing RM AIO, trying to set it up.
Can maybe someone post here proper radio/kernel/CPU settings please?
My device is amoled version, with 5.11.05.27 radio and 2.6.35.10 [email protected] #11 kernel
CPU settings are untouched after flashing the rom, so they are "default".

[Q] Are the relatively newer ROMS too heavy for Desire Z ?

Hi guys,
I have question regarding my HTC Desire Z .. Ever since I rooted the phone about 1.5 years ago, and have been trying out the newer ROMs, I've slowly realized that my phone is getting slower, slower, and slower .. I'm currently using a Jellybean ROM, and its *extremely* slow ! I mean, at times I receive a call, and the ringer rings about 5-6 times, and during all this time, the phone doesn't have the juice to switch to the phone app, so that I can 'accept' the call ! Ultimately the call disconnects itself!
A friend recently suggested to me that maybe the newer ROMs are two powerful for my phone, and that I need to move to an older Android version ROM, which my Desire Z CAN handle, without this much lag !
Also, I hardly have any apps installed on my phone at all, in an attempt to keep the load low .. I also use 'Advance Task Killer' regularly to kill background apps, but it doesn't really improve anything ..
What can I do to improve the speed of my phone !? I really pisses me off to see a 10-15 second lag when I call someone !
Get rid of the task killer first of all...

I dont think it will make any difference .. I've tried many different ROMs, and its always the same condition with all ... Sometimes my phone become *so* unresponsive that I just feel like smashing it on the ground ! (When I really get upset!)
Also, on another note, when I open Advanced Task Killer, it shows me the amount of free RAM on the top .. Most of the times this value is between 60 MB ~ 100 MB, and sometimes between 100 MB ~ 140 MB .. If never seen this value go above 135 MB or so ... And Desire Z is supposed to have 512 MB of RAM
just full wipe and reflash the rom

If I do that, it will initially be fast .. Even if I install all my apps on the first day, it will still be okay in terms of speed ... But give it a week, it eventually becomes slow .. very slow! .. And the odd thing is, during this week, I don't necessary install/uninstall anything .. the phone just ****s itself in somehow ... And then from then on, it remains slow, no matter what ...
I open Google Maps, takes like 15 seconds to open .. takes another 60 seconds to go to Google Navigation, and then further lags after that ..
Basically there's a lag in *everything* !
Is there a way I can see what is slowing down the phone ?!
Also, is it true or not whether an older phone, such as Desire Z, can or cannot handle a relatively newer Android version ROM ? Maybe this is why the latest Android versions are NOT officially available for phones many times, because the manufacturer knows the device cannot handle that newer Android version ?
If your rom supports ext partitions, make sure all of yours are formatted that way. Chances are you have sopme bad apps, a logcat may hedlp determin abused wake locks or memory leaks. Also you can try downloading battery batt stats or watchdog for more infor

i had a play with elitemod ics the other day & it was defiantly slower than the GB version... it was using more or less double the ram which i suspect is the real problem.....
Yes its true the newer versions are more hungry. We touched on it in one of the andromadus threads recently. I believe the issue to be the cpu. The nexus s has the same amount of ram as us and although its not as good on there as the gnex, its still good. Having bumped my lower cpu limit a notch, its much better. I also tried a few upper limits and found that 1200 to be best as it suffers with animation under that.
But then all dz's are different. Stay on your rom and bump up the lower limits a few clicks and let us know what you think.

I've noticed the slowdowns happening with negligible CPU load and no memory constraints. I suspect a problem with the kernel. At the times it happens, the phone seems to be just doing *nothing*.

Is there any other thing I can try apart from logcat ? I installed Watchdog a few hours ago, but so far it hasn't reported anything out of the way ..
What does have ext partitions do ? How does that speed up the OS ?
Also, I'm probably going to be re-flashing another ROM soon, so please suggest me a ROM ... I'm looking for maximum longterm stability and responsiveness here, so even if a ROM isn't the newest or the most feature-filled, I can still try it out ..
And what is Superwipe (read it in another thread) ?
Normally, when I restore stuff after installing a ROM, I download a fresh copy of the app from the Store, and only restore the app's data using titanium .. is this okay ?
For the sake of starting fresh, flash the ext 4 recovery and flash mimicry as your rom. Read all suggestions in the first few post on mimicry, to flash 4ext I made a thread, you'll find it the first page or so in the general section (dzhboot or something)
Mimicry is one of the best made best performing full featured ics roms for our phones, partitioning everything to 4ext (easily done through recovery) will make it far better. Other bonus tweaks will be added in.
There (in my opinion) are beter performing gingerbread roms, but I do sugest mimicry as it is amazing and the dev has laid out a wealth of knowledge in the first few posts

I'm assuming you're referring to this thread: http://www.forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714187
Well this is the ROM I'm currently using, which I flashed about 2 months ago, which is giving me all these performance issues ..
I went through the first few pages, but I didn't find any instructions on 4EXT ... The only thing I found was in the OP's FAQ in the start, which said that you should apply ext by downloading 4ext from Play Store, if you get lags ..
Anywhere else I can look ?
Look in general section, somewhere in the first page I posted a thread called dzhboot on g2 or something to that extent, one of the first few posts I eplain how to flash 4ext recovery.
One of the fastest roms I have used is elitemod cm7, maybe try that

I have been wondering the same as the OP. I have been using andromadus and andromadus mimicry roms for the past few month. I tired cm9 unofficial but it was no different to mimicry in terms of lag. Currently on flinny's jb beta http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005136. Lag is not terrible but too often I am looking at a white screen waiting for something to happen.
I often experience lags opening apps like phone and browser (any browser). Phone hanging when trying to make a call is particularly annoying because my wife asks "why is your phone so ****?"
I would love to have a really smooth experience like others report but even with a fresh wipe I seem to have trouble. When I try to reduce the process limit i still seem to have too many processes running. What should i look for in logcat in terms of tracking down the problem?
Maybe 4ext will sort it out? I am very loathe to go back to a cm7 rom.
Ext4 worked really well for me to speed up my phone.. I highly recommend it.

It's gotta be a certain app your installing thats hogging all your memory, I been running mimicry ever since blk released it n have had very few slowdowns.
Never had a problem receiving/making calls 'wiping' is not the same as 'superwiping' its different then just the name, I suggest you do some reading up before flashing any more roms.

i superwipe, and i've been flashing roms since the g1. I am not seeing any particular process hogging resources. this current jb beta is pretty good but still get some lagging at random.
if that were the case I would love to try and find out what it is.
it seems to me that a minority of users report lags in rom threads and are dismissed without ever really getting to the root of the problem.
I would really like to try and get to the bottom of it. I am going to move to ext4 but if there are other troubleshooting steps to take I am all ears.
Ext4 alone will make a huge difference, and most of the rest of the slow downs will be do to apps/running services which can be seen with a logcat what is continually trying to use cpu resources
If only a minority report slowdowns then either that minority has a different idea of how the phone should run/ they use the phone in a completley different way/ or have different settings and apps then most have.
