Missing contacts after restoring with titanium - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just flashed MikFroyo 4.5 and used titanium backup to restore apps with all system data. My contacts didn't restore. Also I couldn't sync them with my back up on Windows contacts.
Any suggestions with titanium?
And,
Does sync not work w/ MikFroyo?
Always got my Nand I guess...
Thanks!

I had this problem with Loot. Fortunately, I had just done an SDCard backup on Monday, so I just replaced the loot backup files form the backup folder and got my data back....

This is the first restore I've done with titanium. Doesn't it save everything to my SD card?

Look down your list for Contacts/Calls. Restore that.

Have you rebooted since restoring? You need to reboot for the system data to repopulate.

Yeah, actually it was the first one I flashed. It just freaked me out a bit cuz it looked so much like iphone.
Is it pretty customizable? Themes and mods?
The main reason I learned about rooting was to make my phone unique like all these crazy beasts I see on here. I'm looking for a ROM that I can trick out and make my own.

MIUI has a built in theme manager that lets you switch themes on a fly. Like any other ROM you can use a different launcher (I use LauncherPro) and fully customize it. Mine looks nothing like an iPhone. Sure the menus bear a resemblance but who cares? They are far nicer looking than the bland menus in Sense and other AOSP ROMs. This is what mine looks like.

That is sick. I have that wallpaper actually but mine doesn't have that blue tint. Is that a theme, different wallpaper, or your personal touch?
Looks like its time to flash that puppy back and get to work. Are the themes available through the theme manager you mentioned or do you have to scour the forum to find them?
Also, are you using desktop visualizer for your icons/drawers?

I got the wallpaper from a folder that was posted here a while ago. If you want it I can upload it for you.
There are some downloadable themes in Theme Downloader (a separate app) and a couple already in Theme Manager, then there is also a forum specifically for MIUI that has a theme section. http://www.miui-dev.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?31-Theme-Releases
Just using shortcuts in LauncherPro and custom icons (Dreamlyfe). I use SiMi Folder Widget for the folders.

You can get launcher pro in the market for free...or search for the apk on google.
And if you install a theme, it normally comes with fonts and icons for a set list of apps. You can always change and app icon at will.

MIUI actually changes ALL icons to match the theme. At the very least it puts a background behind the standard icon to make them all uniform.

Thank you both very much. I'm on my way. I just need to figure out how to start messing with mods. It seems like some you flash, some you manually install, something about "push"...???? I gotta read some more... AHHHH
As for launchers, I have both paid versions of Launcher Pro and ADW. There are things I like about each so I guess I will try them both out on MIUI and see what fits.
And themes, thanks for the link. I also found this...http://miuithemes.com

Error after Cyanogen ROM switch

I've been using the Fresh ROM on my evo for awhile now but decided to make the switch over to Cyanogen today. I got everything up and running and restored my apps and data, but now whenever i hit the home key i get a gray notification box saying "This feature does not support current system version.". I'm also using Launcher Pro Plus, in case that may have anything to do with it. Anyone know what would be putting up this message? It's driving me loco!
Any help is much appreciated. Love XDA!
It could be the launcher, but I wouldn't be surprised if you restored too much data from your previous ROM and broke something. Or a combination of the two. Fresh and CM are pretty different beasts.
Go to flipz's site and read his "rant" about misusing backup apps. It's very educational.
are you by chance using switchpro widget with a 4g toggle for on/off on it? That turned out to be the app that was causing it for me.

[Q] Remove 'Garbage' Widgets

I applied the latest RUU for the Droid Incredible (November 2010 Edition). In the past, I always updated the phone, Got Root Access and performed a Nandroid Backup before removing all the Bloatware/Crapware on my phone.
However, this time I am getting very different results.
After the Nandroid, I delete everything I don't want via Root Explorer. I would delete the obvious ones such as City ID, VZ Nav, Teeter, and a bunch of HTC widgets like Footprints, Contacts Calculator, etc.
I was told that if I go into my settings and 'Clear Data' on HTC Sense that it will get rid of the shortcut to the deleted widgets on the Add Widget Window. It always worked in the past except not on this release.
I have reinstalled the RUU several times to make sure it wasn't a n installation error (of course I am performing a wipe). Any one have any suggestions.
Also is there an updated list of what programs are safe to remove?
Thanks.
Why not flash a "senseless ROM"? there are a number of them out there. You lose the stock Rosie and are forced to use either ADW or Launcher Pro. They alsy delete many of the things you have no interest in keeping.
Just another option.
Because I like Sense. I love the HTC Calendar Widget, HTC Clock Widget (with the full screen weather animation), HTC Tip Calculator and the stock HTC Keyboard (Hence why there is also an equal amount of Sense ROMs out there too).
Nothing I have seen out there comes close to what I like.
I've always just used the system app remover from the market

Thanks. I'll give that a shot and report back.
Edit: No doesn't work. I uninstalled System App Remover and Got Refunded. It looks like it can't be done because even the Virtuous ROM has the same issue. Oh well maybe in time someone will figure it out.

I would try removing the apps with Titanium Backup if you haven't. That's what I normally use to remove bloatware. If you "Freeze" the apps, the widgets may be removed, also.
Also, could someone let me in on the secret for adding a custom signature with my ROM/Kernel/Radio/Phone/etc.? I'm new to XDA.
The widgets are gone it's the shortcut for them that need to be removed. RMK had a method of removing these prior to Froyo update 1 which doesn't work anymore.
If you know what the app names are, you can use 7 zip to remove the apk's from the app folder before flashing the Rom.

It works. It gets rid of the garbage shortcuts now. However, you can't put widgets on your homescreens anymore. Very weird. Because the widgets I want to put on my screen are installed.

I'll give that a shot too. However, without even doing it, I think it won't work because of the SQL entries left behind.
I am just being real anal. The garbage widgets shouldn't bother me but I want it to be clean.

[req] htc home switcher

I'm not sure what to call it with out looking at my evo but it's dead and don't greek like charging it.
What I'm looking for is a app that does what my evo can do. It allows me to make multiable homes using the same launcher. It then allows me to switch back and force depending on my mood. it came with a htc home, a sprint home, and a black home. I added a work home with a bunch of widgets I used for work. Once I got home I switched to my daily home witch had a bunch of other widgets. It allowed me to switch back and fourth with out changing my settings our widgets depending on what home I was using.

dont know of an app for this but i found this: http://hubpages.com/hub/Droid-Home-Replacement-App-Comparison
might want to check it out. also i thought of a workaround though its kindof a PITA. launcherpro and adw both support backing up your homescreens and settings, so you could backup your config and move it to another folder, keep several configs and just move the one you want to the default location and restore from backup.
of course, LP doesnt restore the widgets right, so fwiw.
Could u partition the sd and keep a copy on each side I would think zeam would work as the launcher. Then you would just need an app to switch partitions.
Other thought: take apk of launcher program u like. Copy and rename it to something like launcher2. Install both and use home switcher to flip between them. Easy fix.

That won't work the actual package name when it installs will be still com.whatever.zeam

I don't know the file names, so I'm gonna make them up... but,
Using backup and restore features, if they're all just xml files, lets say your launcherpro backup name is "launcherprobackup.xml"
Then rename it to "launcherprobackup2.xml" and create another backup.
Could someone write a script or something that would do something like :
rename launcherprobackup.xml to launcherprobackup3.xml
rename launcherprobackup2.xml to launcherprobackup.xml
rename launcherprobackup3.xml to launcherpro2.xml
then restore launcherpro backup, restart launcherpro?
kinda ghetto.. but.. ya.
Edit: You're prob have to restore your widgets each time.. but not sure.
You could also try the multiple Titanium Backup route, and restore a separate instance/backup.

At the risk of sounding noobish again, You should still be able to rename the file so it shows as a seperate program. You might have to take all your data off the phone, make the adjustments on a PC and put it back onto the phone, but it can be done. Mysteryemotionz, Try it with your v9 beast theme and use the browser you have in it for trials. Worse case is I am wrong and I go back to being noob status again .

I'm not sure, but I think that would require some xml modifications, and kind of defeat the purpose of changing the "scene" at will. I think the launchers (or any app) has instructions to use specific folder names to store lib or database files which might cause conflict when trying to run both.. but like the comment above, I could be totally lying/incorrect
Check out adw ex. It's a couple bucks, but it gives you like 6 profiles to modify and change to

that could probably lead to a good idea--

Best idea I've heard yet, I feel like that could be the ticket. I've been pondering this as well, and the only thing I can think of would be to literally create a whole new launcher from scratch. If I could do it I would, how sick would it be to have LP, ADW, Zeam, and all other launchers packed into one. You would have 5 "launcher screens", each customizable with seperate icons, widgets, etc. they could all be different, or look the same just with different icons. Am I making sense lol?

Its amazing how a thread morphs. Lol
To the OP, you are talking about the "Scenes" feature of HTC sense. I would say the closest thing to that on a phone without HTC sense, is what the others are talking about. LauncherPro. Build a setup, make a backup of it. Repeat till you have all your different setups. Then you can switch whenever you want.

[Q] Koni's Elite Series 3 - Cant install HTC Music and HTC Music Widget

I just recently installed Koni's Elite Series III. It is my favorite ROM so far. One thing that i cant get to work is the HTC Music, and htc Music Widget apps. He has them as an optional download on the ROM page. I downloaded them, put them on the root of my sd card, and tried to flash the .zip file through clockwork mod. it says Installing update...
Installing HTC Music and Widget...
Done.
Install from sdcard complete.
When I boot back up nothing has changed and the apps are not there. so i tried extracting the apk's to the sdcard's extracted folder and installing them from there and it says application not installed. I even tried to move the apk's to the system\apps folder and install them from there but still no dice.
I tried to figure out how to post this on the rom page but I guess xda doesnt want people asking questions on dev posts haha. hopefully someone can help! Thanks!

The first thing I would do, is check your permissions on both the Music apk, and the music widget apk. Navigate to /system/app, find the htcMusic.apk, and long press it, then select 'permissions'. Make sure that it's set the same as the other system apps. Most likely you just need to be sure that User: read and write are both checked. Once the permissions are set for both of them, reboot the phone and see if that worked.
sweet!

ya, i pulled it from another rom (stock turbo) that has the 2x3 widget. in fact while i was on that rom earlier today (to get this, and the flashlight app) i renamed the com.htc.musicwidget.apk to com.htc.music.widget.blk and the widget disapeared. so.... the htc.musicwidget.apk must be the right file, but why would it only give me the option for the regular android 1x3 widget..... and ya the permissions are the same as all the other widgets. user has read and write and everyone else has just read. I just renamed the htc.musicwidget.apk on my phone on koni's to htc.musicwidget.apk and the android music 1x3 is still there. so i dont think that they are connected, the apk probably just isnt installing right

I would re download your widget, and try again. Are you sure the file didn't get corrupted? (Size is the same as it is in the rom you took it from) The 1x3 widget you're describing sounds like its the widget for the stock android music player, which I also believe is included in konis elite. That would tell me that something isnt right with your com.htc. MusicWidget.apk. did you name it right? (Capitals matter, it can't be all lower case. The m and the w both need tone capitals. Which is the better kernel?

Faux or Bullet included with Juggs 4.1? If you have a preference, tell please me why...

You really should try both out for a few days and find out yourself. There are not too many options out at the moment so trying things out to get a feel for them is best. Also, go and read what has been done to the kernal and read their threads. I understand that you want to get the best of the best right now, but understanding what you're doing to your phone and the differences between the kernals / roms is one of the things XDA is about.

Hi Tri4life, thanks for the reply. I've been reading/researching for months before posting. I have only tried Juggs with the Bullet kernel though because to be quite honest, in my line of work and with all the things I have going on, flashing constantly and having my phone off/on is just not something I can do... I'd love to have an extra GS2 to experiment with, but unfortunately I can't flash and test drive a lot, I need my phone up and running as much as possible being a SQL/Oracle DBA on call basically 24/7 for a major group of hospitals.
If I can figure out a way to quickly restore my apps and settings after a ROM or kernel flash, then maybe I can do this more often, but from what I'm reading folks are saying that's hit or miss, so I've been mostly doing all my app installs and customization from scratch after a flash to a new ROM.. which takes me hours to do..
So basically I'm looking to go with some of the common successful configurations users have had luck with on here.
Faux for me! So smooth and getting 1d battery on it. Bullet doesnt come close i was getting 10 hours on that thing!

Maybe something that might help. I use Titanium backup Pro and Adw Launcher EX. I spent a lot of time gettings things right on ADW and now that I have it I backup its settings. ( this is also placement of items on homescreen ). I then use Titanium to back that up as well as all my other user apps + data. Everything is stored on my sd card. If I plan on formatting I just move my titanium backup folder to a desktop. Then format, mount, and re add to the sd. I have a folder with a few .apks to install first without adding an account. For example the titanium backup. So essentially, everytime I try out a new rom I just install titanium, have it restore my apps and their data. Then I add my account. I will clean this post up later, but it really makes things nice and allows me to install new roms in under 10 mins and keep all my previous settings.
Which of the fauxs out used..I see 2.

Yes, that is extremely helpful (especially the part about having the TBU.apk ready to install TBU without adding your account and going through the market) I actually paid for Titanium Backup Pro, so I have the full version and should be able to do this.... I've just heard folks saying that this doesn't always work...
As for launchers, I used to use LauncherPro, now I'm trying Go Launcher EX... mostly because I saw folks saying good things about it, it looks like it has more options (especially for theme-ing) and it has also been updated more recently than LauncherPro. I've never tried ADW Launcher Ex... Why do you prefer it over LauncherPro and Go Launcher?
Im using the 006r and havent had an issue it runs quick and smooth and battery is so far better than bullets , i use my phone a lot so better battery is a must the way apps open so fast on this is just a plus for me

Regarding the launcher, its all about simplicity for me. Adw is just as quick and go launcher ( in my opinion ). Also everything I needed adw takes care of. For the most part I would say they are equal competitors, but I just don't need all the extra options or features that Go Launcher provides. But yes I used Go Launcher Ex and even recommend it to my friends. Keep in mind you can do the same backup with it and restore just like ADW. Oh, but one difference I believe is that Go Launcher stores the backups in a separate file and folder as its app. So using titanium wont back that up. It will just stay on your sd card or internal. Doing the normal wipes to install a new ROM wont remove it, but of course a format will. Just a heads up, and also I haven't used Go Launcher in over a month so they probably pushed out a lot of updates and changed that feature.
About Titanium backup. You will have to have both the TBU.apk and the TBUpro.apk to install. The pro key is installed after, else you will have to wipe TB's cache from application settings. Also, if the ROM does not come with a file manager app on it by default then you will have to push with adb the .apks over. Also I think you can just copy/paste them into the app folder as well.
edit- again, I can give you my exact steps when I get home tonight. Just typing quite fast here at work.

Thanks for the reply Rekzer! Which Faux kernal are you using? Also which modem? Did you lose or gain any functionality between the two kernels?

Im using 0.0.7, its the one that comes with the rom Dewizzed. I think from 0.0.6 to 7 it just changes from a tmobile boot image to a custom one. I tried 0.0.6u with Beastmod, and it boot looped, im not sure if it had issues with beastmod or what, and ended up using DeWizzed as my rom after that instead which i think is 0.0.7r.
Im using the original modem, as im a Telus user(no wifi calling here).
I believe both kernels have most of the same features, Bullet may have more governors IIRC.
I just did a battery calibration starting yesterday actually and im at 20% after 1 day 14 hours. Not heavy usage, but i find while i use was using it there wasnt much drain.
And as i said, its SO smooth.
"I have a folder with a few .apks to install first without adding an account. For example the titanium backup. So essentially, everytime I try out a new rom I just install titanium" ... Great idea.
I'm saving Titanium Backup (com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup-1) and ROM Manager (com.koushikdutta.rommanager-1) in a folder so that I can reinstall them quick without having to log in and grab them from the Google Market. Good thinkin'
