Error after Cyanogen ROM switch - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been using the Fresh ROM on my evo for awhile now but decided to make the switch over to Cyanogen today. I got everything up and running and restored my apps and data, but now whenever i hit the home key i get a gray notification box saying "This feature does not support current system version.". I'm also using Launcher Pro Plus, in case that may have anything to do with it. Anyone know what would be putting up this message? It's driving me loco!
Any help is much appreciated. Love XDA!

It could be the launcher, but I wouldn't be surprised if you restored too much data from your previous ROM and broke something. Or a combination of the two. Fresh and CM are pretty different beasts.
Go to flipz's site and read his "rant" about misusing backup apps. It's very educational.

are you by chance using switchpro widget with a 4g toggle for on/off on it? That turned out to be the app that was causing it for me.

Missing contacts after restoring with titanium

I just flashed MikFroyo 4.5 and used titanium backup to restore apps with all system data. My contacts didn't restore. Also I couldn't sync them with my back up on Windows contacts.
Any suggestions with titanium?
And,
Does sync not work w/ MikFroyo?
Always got my Nand I guess...
Thanks!

Look down your list for Contacts/Calls. Restore that.
Have you rebooted since restoring? You need to reboot for the system data to repopulate.

Yeah, actually it was the first one I flashed. It just freaked me out a bit cuz it looked so much like iphone.
Is it pretty customizable? Themes and mods?
The main reason I learned about rooting was to make my phone unique like all these crazy beasts I see on here. I'm looking for a ROM that I can trick out and make my own.
MIUI has a built in theme manager that lets you switch themes on a fly. Like any other ROM you can use a different launcher (I use LauncherPro) and fully customize it. Mine looks nothing like an iPhone. Sure the menus bear a resemblance but who cares? They are far nicer looking than the bland menus in Sense and other AOSP ROMs. This is what mine looks like.

That is sick. I have that wallpaper actually but mine doesn't have that blue tint. Is that a theme, different wallpaper, or your personal touch?
Looks like its time to flash that puppy back and get to work. Are the themes available through the theme manager you mentioned or do you have to scour the forum to find them?
Also, are you using desktop visualizer for your icons/drawers?
I got the wallpaper from a folder that was posted here a while ago. If you want it I can upload it for you.
There are some downloadable themes in Theme Downloader (a separate app) and a couple already in Theme Manager, then there is also a forum specifically for MIUI that has a theme section. http://www.miui-dev.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?31-Theme-Releases
Just using shortcuts in LauncherPro and custom icons (Dreamlyfe). I use SiMi Folder Widget for the folders.

You can get launcher pro in the market for free...or search for the apk on google.
And if you install a theme, it normally comes with fonts and icons for a set list of apps. You can always change and app icon at will.

MIUI actually changes ALL icons to match the theme. At the very least it puts a background behind the standard icon to make them all uniform.
Thank you both very much. I'm on my way. I just need to figure out how to start messing with mods. It seems like some you flash, some you manually install, something about "push"...???? I gotta read some more... AHHHH
As for launchers, I have both paid versions of Launcher Pro and ADW. There are things I like about each so I guess I will try them both out on MIUI and see what fits.
And themes, thanks for the link. I also found this...http://miuithemes.com

[Q] SD Card app icons disappearing w/ TwCrushDLauncher on Bonsai 3.0.1?

I know I've read somewhere that homescreen icons disappearing after reboot is inherent to Froyo and TW. However, this only happened to me after installing Bonsai 3.0.1 using the twcrushd launcher. I've been using Bonsai since 1.1.4. The TW launcher in Bonsai 3.0 did not have this behavior.
I didn't hear anyone else talk about this, so I assumed it was just me. I even Odin'd back to stock EB13, re-rooted, and installed Bonsai 3.0.1. Still no change. Other launchers do not seem to have this issue.
So I guess my question is, is this normal behavior using twcrushdlauncher?
Just to make it clear, it's not that I get the default icon placeholders waiting for the SD card. The icons are completely gone.
Same exact thing for me. Moving back to phone works to get them back but then tried to get them to stay after moving back to sd, no luck. I'm guessing the card may need to be reformatted. I hope I'm wrong.

Save yourself the time. Already tried it. Backed up the SD card, formatted on computer, formatted again in phone. No change. LOL!
Thanks for the heads up. I just changed all my apps back to phone memory. Guess till we figure it out, just need to deal with the memory hit.
Grr... I won't be able to fit all my apps on the phone memory. Does Darktremor's Apps2SD work on our phones? Wonder if that would fix anything...
I had apps in phone memory disappearing, so just went back to TW3.

No other launchers don't have this issue. I've had serious fc and apps getting screwed up w/ launcherpro in the past. I really liked the twcrushd, but I just tried go launcher ex and I think I've found my new launcher. After 2 days it seems fast, stable, and I like it's features and style.
hmm
I have noticed this for a while with any froyo rom. The icons do show a generic image on the launcher after boot....but, they do eventually display the proper image and work correctly. Sometimes I have to restart my launcher, but within 2 minutes they fix themselves. It seems to me thats the last task thats completed after booting up. I have never had them disappear for longer than 2 minutes
Launcher pro fixed it for me. Actually, regular twlauncher worked too. Guess it was just twcrushdlauncher. Thanks for the help!

Yeah that was usually the case for me too, but I left it on for hours before realizing they weren't there. Also, when they appeared late, there would usually be a generic android logo placeholder. This was not the case here. I really tried everything as described in the OP.
holes45 --> All the other launchers worked fine for me too. I'm glad you found a replacement you like!
Yup, me too. Put TW3 back on and restored data from Titanium and all my homescreens were back to before upgrade.

I'm using Go Launcher EX and loving it. Unfortunately I don't have twlauncher anymore either (except in a nandroid backup somewhere) but I'm sure you can find it. You can even take the apk from an older version of bonsai (inside the zip file in system/app).

CM7/GoLauncher Issue..

WTF???
Does anyone else use Go Launcher?
Everytime I setup all my widgets just right and get everything laid out, as soon as I reboot the phone it erases all my widgets. I just a full wipe and wiped everything multiple times. Then flashed protekk build #18 (because I had no issues with it before), then reinstall all apps through market, then setup my widgets and same issue....
I just got this phone as a replacement (old phone had power button issue), I haven't returned my other one yet. Is there a chance it is an issue with the phone? Never remember having this problem with the other phone...
It only erases my widgets, I have one app icon on my desktop and it loads that back up but nothing else...
Seriously man??? You've asked this at least twice in the nightlies thread. I've tried to help you at least twice. You keep ignoring my replies.
If you keep ignoring the only people trying to help you, it's going to be pretty hard to get help.

I am using the theme chooser, but I never had this issue with my old phone.
I'll try going to stock theme and setting up widgets then reboot, that should tell me if its a theme issue correct?
edit: so that worked, it kept the widgets...
Kind of a bummer that it does that with Go Launcher.
For anyone having this issue, just setup your Widgets and then in go launcher setting choose backup configuration. After that everything should be Honky dory.

Which is the better kernel?

Faux or Bullet included with Juggs 4.1? If you have a preference, tell please me why...

You really should try both out for a few days and find out yourself. There are not too many options out at the moment so trying things out to get a feel for them is best. Also, go and read what has been done to the kernal and read their threads. I understand that you want to get the best of the best right now, but understanding what you're doing to your phone and the differences between the kernals / roms is one of the things XDA is about.

Hi Tri4life, thanks for the reply. I've been reading/researching for months before posting. I have only tried Juggs with the Bullet kernel though because to be quite honest, in my line of work and with all the things I have going on, flashing constantly and having my phone off/on is just not something I can do... I'd love to have an extra GS2 to experiment with, but unfortunately I can't flash and test drive a lot, I need my phone up and running as much as possible being a SQL/Oracle DBA on call basically 24/7 for a major group of hospitals.
If I can figure out a way to quickly restore my apps and settings after a ROM or kernel flash, then maybe I can do this more often, but from what I'm reading folks are saying that's hit or miss, so I've been mostly doing all my app installs and customization from scratch after a flash to a new ROM.. which takes me hours to do..
So basically I'm looking to go with some of the common successful configurations users have had luck with on here.
Faux for me! So smooth and getting 1d battery on it. Bullet doesnt come close i was getting 10 hours on that thing!

Maybe something that might help. I use Titanium backup Pro and Adw Launcher EX. I spent a lot of time gettings things right on ADW and now that I have it I backup its settings. ( this is also placement of items on homescreen ). I then use Titanium to back that up as well as all my other user apps + data. Everything is stored on my sd card. If I plan on formatting I just move my titanium backup folder to a desktop. Then format, mount, and re add to the sd. I have a folder with a few .apks to install first without adding an account. For example the titanium backup. So essentially, everytime I try out a new rom I just install titanium, have it restore my apps and their data. Then I add my account. I will clean this post up later, but it really makes things nice and allows me to install new roms in under 10 mins and keep all my previous settings.

Yes, that is extremely helpful (especially the part about having the TBU.apk ready to install TBU without adding your account and going through the market) I actually paid for Titanium Backup Pro, so I have the full version and should be able to do this.... I've just heard folks saying that this doesn't always work...

Regarding the launcher, its all about simplicity for me. Adw is just as quick and go launcher ( in my opinion ). Also everything I needed adw takes care of. For the most part I would say they are equal competitors, but I just don't need all the extra options or features that Go Launcher provides. But yes I used Go Launcher Ex and even recommend it to my friends. Keep in mind you can do the same backup with it and restore just like ADW. Oh, but one difference I believe is that Go Launcher stores the backups in a separate file and folder as its app. So using titanium wont back that up. It will just stay on your sd card or internal. Doing the normal wipes to install a new ROM wont remove it, but of course a format will. Just a heads up, and also I haven't used Go Launcher in over a month so they probably pushed out a lot of updates and changed that feature.
About Titanium backup. You will have to have both the TBU.apk and the TBUpro.apk to install. The pro key is installed after, else you will have to wipe TB's cache from application settings. Also, if the ROM does not come with a file manager app on it by default then you will have to push with adb the .apks over. Also I think you can just copy/paste them into the app folder as well.
edit- again, I can give you my exact steps when I get home tonight. Just typing quite fast here at work.

Im using 0.0.7, its the one that comes with the rom Dewizzed. I think from 0.0.6 to 7 it just changes from a tmobile boot image to a custom one. I tried 0.0.6u with Beastmod, and it boot looped, im not sure if it had issues with beastmod or what, and ended up using DeWizzed as my rom after that instead which i think is 0.0.7r.
Im using the original modem, as im a Telus user(no wifi calling here).
I believe both kernels have most of the same features, Bullet may have more governors IIRC.
I just did a battery calibration starting yesterday actually and im at 20% after 1 day 14 hours. Not heavy usage, but i find while i use was using it there wasnt much drain.
And as i said, its SO smooth.
"I have a folder with a few .apks to install first without adding an account. For example the titanium backup. So essentially, everytime I try out a new rom I just install titanium" ... Great idea.
I'm saving Titanium Backup (com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup-1) and ROM Manager (com.koushikdutta.rommanager-1) in a folder so that I can reinstall them quick without having to log in and grab them from the Google Market. Good thinkin'

Deleting Home screens

I'm rooted and stock (official jellybean). Whenever I delete a home screen that I don't want, Touchwiz crashes. I've wiped and it doesn't help.
What's the issue with that?
I just checked and mine does the same thing. I don't feel like resetting my home screens, but you can try going to settings->manage applications, scroll over to all, find touchwiz home and clear cache and force stop, then try. I doubt it will work, but worth a try if it's bugging you.
If you can't fix it then worse comes to worst...or rather better in my experience...download and install Go Launcher EX. Way cooler than the TW launcher and you can still use TW features but not the TW widgets (calendar, accuweather, etc but plenty of great alternatives). If you have Titanium Backup I've even found that freezing (disabling) TW hasn't caused any issues if you're using a different launcher.
