[Q] 4 big questions about various DHD issues - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

1)
The ARHD thread strongly recommends using:
Radio_12.35d.60.140f_26.06.03.24_M2
Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF
I'm currently using:
android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/ace/radios/ace.26.04.02.17.zip
Is mine the same? I don't know if my current one have suffixes or not.
My HTC DHD's default stock (before changing anything) is 26.03.02.26_M.
Questions:
1. What do the suffixes M, M2, and SF mean?
2. Why so many versions of radio? I understand that radio controls cellular connections, gps, bluetooth, etc... but with each newer "radio" that is released, is it more powerful? more energy saving?
3. I live in Singapore, my provider is Starhub. Are the different radio versions (in terms of phone and data connection) meant to suit different providers? (Hence I should revert to my phone's default stock radio?
4. I often wish Wifi/ Bluetooth/ 3G data connection can be "boosted", even if it is at the expense of battery life. Is it possible here? How to configure? (E.g. I know that for my router, with 3rd party firmware, I can increase the wireless power)
2)
On currentwidget's logged data graph, I realise that my current usage fluctuates alot. Is this normal?
11am-12pm was listening to internet radio and connected to bluetooth headphones.
about 5pm-7pm was listening to mp3s and surfing internet on 3G.
other than that, the phone was in standby/ lock-screen with screen turned off, and wifi/bluetooth/gps/auto-sync all disabled.

3.
"SD Card unexpectedly removed"
I did unmount properly on my PC before changing back to Charge Only mode on my phone.
Sometimes it just suddenly happens when I'm browsing the SD card contents on my phone too.
Is there a fix?
Is there a way to re-mount without opening up the back cover and pushing it out and in again, or restarting my whole phone?
4.)
How can I edit/ access the Middle Name field in my contacts?
Apparently some contacts have middle names automatically formatted, and my phone can read them. But when I go into Edit mode for the contact, there's only First Name and Last Name.

[Q] File Transfer over Bluetooth

Ok, I've searched for about 3 days now and I can't find anything that answers my question.
My G2 is rooted and I'm running CM 6.1 RC2 and I would like to be able to pair AND connect to my Windows 7 laptop via bluetooth for file transfers.
I have the "Bluetooth File Transfer" app installed, but it will not connect to my laptop. It tries, but says that my laptop does not have the OBEX and/or OPP transfer protocol active. I've looked for answers on that and I can't find anything.
The phone does connect to other bluetooth devices without a problem (my car stereo for example). And my laptop connects to other devices without a problem (my mouse for example). There has to be a way to introduce these two crazy cats to each other - I know they will form a happy and fruitful relationship once they meet.
Thanks in advance.

Clear all caches clear bluetooth up/download clear all that out reboot do not connect to anything else before u try ur laptop. You need to make your laptop discoverable in the bt settings its kind of hidden. Do one of two things..... 1. First set up a personal area network between the phone and the laptop. Once that's "paired but not connected" initiate a file transfer of a small file txt or even one picture FROM the laptop to the phone. You need to pay attention to the pairing code and try to simultaneously accept on phone then laptop or laptop then phone until it pairs and initiate the transfer from laptop to phone. The thing is Windows is a beast that likes to protect itself and your phone is quite promiscious so youu have to kind of appease Windows rather than your anything goes phone. I forgot what number two is..
It also depends on UAC settings in Win7.
If that doesn't work... I suggest trying a dedicated app like PDAnet bluetooth tethering because it will find your phone. Just to connect not to tether. (As a test)
But the bottom line is you have history of connecting to other devices so you gotta clear all that memory out on both laptop and phone. Reboot both devices start fresh.
If not then maybe someone has other ideas to help. Nice bump btw.

Mangled text on home screens?

Hello, I've got a weird error that I don't even know how to begin tracking down. Not sure if this is an ICS issue, an app issue, or a device (hardware) issue.
Several times now, I get a problem were, after a reboot, all the text on my home screen - names for apps and text within widgets is mangled somehow. Like pixels inverted, or boxed over, etc. (see screenshot)

The first couple of times this happened, a single reboot made it go away. However with my latest occurrence, I've rebooted several times without a fix.
EDIT: It seems like my data connection may also require examination? Since on the 3rd or 4th reboot I was in my office with a solid WiFi connection (versus previous reboots I was in my car en-route), the problem has now gone away again.
My initial reboot this morning was as a quick-fix attempt at an absent data connection. Guess I'm off to research these "radios" everyone keeps on about...
EDIT 2: Ok, perhaps ignore the above. After a reboot made this go away, it has now come back spontaneously (i.e. just noticed it sitting in the cradle with the error again - no reboot this time.) CRUUUUD.
Are you using a custom Kernel? Some 'Overclock' the GPU to 512MHz, while Stock is 384MHz. Some devices can't handle the increase and cause screen artifacts. Post your Kernel details and I'm sure someone will point you in the direction of another Kernel if this is the case.
Not that I know of - should be all stock, since I haven't rooted or unlocked anything yet (just got the phone a couple of weeks ago).
Thanks for the help.
Stock launcher? Or using nova/apex etc?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Hi,
Another thread...:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646985
Nothing related to GPU overclock...just about this possibility...
Looking in different threads in Q&A/General.
If you are using the stock launcher...I think I saw a topic with this weird issue with the stock launcher...but I can not find it anymore
In any case clear data/cache of your current launcher, reboot and see...If you're on another launcher than stock,reinstall...
I speak only for the launcher issue.
Yep, stock launcher. Thanks for the other thread.
Seems to be at bay now. Will keep an eye on it.

Does this battery life look normal?

I think something is draining my battery, but I haven't downloaded anything thay could be draining it? Also my GPS iconnis stuck to on, even after rebooting and doong a battery pull...

Found the problem. Had an app that had air push, removed it and the GPS icon went away, which is what I think was killing the battery...
I found the battery to drain hugely with wifi set to be on at all times, I've set mine to switch wifi off when locked and I'm at 63% and over 8 hrs up time
Wifi has never been an issue for me.. I'm on wifi 99% of the time...
GPS, Auto Sync, and Bluetooth are huge killers for me. If you don't use them too often I recommend leaving them off. Also staying on HSPA+ instead of LTE when your phone is idle is better as well.
nope definately not normal. try maybe disabling some radios, like bluetooth and gps when not in use, and try disabling some notifications like gmail, facebook...unless u want them. they seem to be big battery drainers. or its prolly just a bug..try restarting

Can we set the data switching using Tasker?

I could be wrong but I think the only switching data modes is by temporarily removing he SIM, dialling the code to put the phone in service mode, selecting the data mode you want, but then won't take effect until you reboot...
If that's the case, I would say no because of having to remove the SIM...
As stated in post 2, I found the problem.

Hidden menus - ANT Settings

While messing around with the hidden menus, I turned on PRX/DRX measurement display , under RF -> ANT Setting menu. There seems to be no way to turn the option off again.
Can this have any impact on battery life / performances? Is there a way to disable it? If i click again on the PRX/DRX ON button, it reboots the phone but the option stays ON.

I cant find a clear answer what this is for some say fm radio others say its how gear talks wi5h the fone. I hate to make an example here thought this is why we dont touch settings we dont know about. U hqve no clue what it does and for all u no u coulda wiped ure phone. This is a big no no but enough of that u way no matter how many times u click it stays on. Only other way would to restore ure backup or it may been on in the first place. Or a factory reset if no backups
you may look into ant+ its part of the system it may give you more of an idea ive never messed with it im pretty sure i got it debloated outa mine

ANT+ seems to be a communication protocol for data exchange between smartphons and various types of sensors.
On the other hand, "ANT settings", in the hidden menu context, seems to stand for ANTenna settings...
Did some research and I'm starting to figure it out a little bit.
PRX should be "primary data receive" while DRX is "diversity data receive" (it could also mean "Discontinuous reception" ....). Both have to do with LTE-WCDMA (?).
I'm not into telecom engineering, but I guess having both ON it's the way it's meant to be.
What is strange, is the menu behaviour : initially showing nothing, then apparently enabling both, and now allowing to turn off either one function or the other but not both at the same time.
For the time being, I see no anomalous behaviour or battery drain.
Bottom line : better not to tamper with it, I concur. But it would be nice to know what exactly PRX/DRX means , and if the menu is merely a tool for reading network performances ("lte ml1 serving cell measurement") or it actually enables/disables antenna features.
PRX is primary data receive signal.
DRX is diversity data receive signal.
You can guess the rest of it....

cannot get apps to use mobile data?

Hi All
I have an xperia XZ2c that I purchased used, but cannot get the apps to use
data outside of a wireless network.
This is very annoying as it means I cannot use spotify, maps, gmail, etc
over mobile while travelling.
I have tried absolutely everything I can think of, with no success, so now
I have come to the experts - if the XDA crowd can't figure this out, then it
probably cannot be fixed!
Some background:I bought the phone over ebay, and it's originally from
japan and was locked to the docomo network carriers.
I have unlocked the network, and am able to use it to make calls, send messages etc. So the
voice works fine, it's the data that is the problem.
Model: Sony Xperia XZ2c SO-05K
Carrier : Docomo
Build: 52.1.B.0.266
Root status : not rooted
Bootloader unlock allowed = no
Some obvious stuff:
Do I have data? YES
Is mobile data enabled = yes
Did I try roaming = yes
Is airplane mode on = no
The phone info states:
Sim status = NTT Docomo, which is incorrect, and should be vodacom - how do
I change this? Sim is working for voice though.
Another oddity:
I have used adb to disable the bloatware, but when I tried to disable an app called ‘docomo application manager”, it just re-enables itself – whats up with that?
If I cannot get this to work, would a last ditch attempt be to try and get the bootloader unlocked at the cost of more $$$? I would prefer not to, as I have read that it can affect some functionality such as the camera, and quite frankly it looks like quite a complicated process for a noob such as myself.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Having the exact same problem (added the providers APN data, it was empty. bootloader unlocked allowed is no, sim is unlocked). Feels like the phone does not support the needed bands but according to the spec sheet it should.
Anyone else ran into this and managed to solve this problem?
