Used the standard unrevoked root method on my evo. Everything went fine, but after the final reboot I no longer have data services.
Tried flashing CM6 and still no data.
Tried a full wipe, didn't help.
Reflashed the PC36IMG and still don't have data.
Any suggestions?
Well I know that on CM6 and CM7, there is an option in the settings [interface I believe] where you can toggle mobile data on/off. Did you check that?

Strange. So the root was successful right? You are s-off and have a custom recovery? Or are you back at stock, unrooted now, after flashing the pc36img.zip? If you're stock, and have 4g or wifi connection, I'd try to update your profile and prl, via menu>settings>system updates, and then reboot. If you are rooted, and have recovery with s-off, I'd try reflashing your radio. What radio version are you now? You can find all versions here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485 If you try both of those, and neither of them work, then I apologize, but I know nothing else to try, as I've never had that happen before. That is just what I would try, before taking it to sprint, unrooted of course.

Mobile data is on.
The root was successful, s-off and recovery all OK. Tried updating profile and PRL, but it doesn't do anything since there is no data connection.
I flashed the pc36img and tried updating profile and PRL again, and at least got a 3g symbol, but I can't add my google account, just gives me the "can't establish a reliable data connection to the server".
I have an airave here, so reception isn't a problem.
4g and wifi work fine, so I'll try flashing the newest radio and see if that helps.
Thanks.

Yep, worked fine while on 4g.
I'm thinking it has something to do with the airave.
I unplugged my airave and refreshed profile and prl, both worked like they should and everything seems to be back to normal.
I plugged the airave back in, 3g stays working for a bit, but if I turn 4g on and let it connect, then turn it off, I end up with no 3g or 3g/data roaming (triangle above signal bars) and nothing works again.
Grrrrr.

That's odd. I have zero experience or knowledge on the use of airaves, but aren't they supposed to boost your signal? Not ruin it? That's strange. At least you've figured out what the culprit was, cuz If everything works fine without the airave on, and goes to hell when it's turned on, then I'd agree with you and say that the airave is causing some issues for you.

Yeah, what's even more odd is that I have full bars showing, but nothing that requires data will work. I can receive phone calls and send SMS, but gmail, facebook, web won't connect.
Hopefully I didn't screw something up because I just picked this Evo up yesterday

I remember seeing someone else have this same problem. I believe they remedied it by dialing ##3282# entering their msl code (download msl reader in the market), and then clicking edit mode, data, menu, restore. I think it will then bring you to handsfree activation and resetup your data services, update prl, and then search for a firmware update which can be canceled out of. Search for it in the myn rls5 thread because I'm not exactly sure if I told you the exact steps, but that was the jist of it.

Hi guys,
Please help me out here:
After I rooted and unlocked NAND on my EVO by following the guides on this forum (part 1 and part 2), my 4g connectivity is totally unreliable.
The connection switches between 4g and 3g a couple of times a minute. Sometimes the EVO will have a full 4g signal and an ip address (according to the settings app), but when I open the browser it says that there is no network connection. Switching the phone to 3g fixes the connectivity issue.
I live on the 14th floor of a high-rise and had full 4g signal before rooting. I have tried the stock ROM as well as the Bugless Beast ROM and I get the same results.
Does rooting and unlocking NAND somehow mess with the 4g radio in the EVO, anyone have this issue in the past? Please help, I don't want to take this thing back to Sprint and go for the iPhone
Have you updated the radio? Go to settings and see if you baseband is 1.39.00.05.31
4G Radio
What is your current baseband at?
you should be at 1.39.00.05.31 or higher. If you look for the Fresh .2 Rom, they have the Radio zip. reboot into recovery and flash with the new Zip it will update your Baseband radio will be updated.
I had issues with 4G connectivity I updated my radio and I am all set.

Yes, I just updated to the latest baseband and it's still doing the same thing.
The phone shows full signal on 4g and all of the sudden switches to 3g and back to 4g again. This occurs several times a minute.
Is there some way I can flash it back to completely stock ROM?
Thanks,
Rayden1000
i'm rooted via unrevoked and my 4g is spotty. rooted or not. for me I think its 4g not set up yet. It is a work in progress. I'm in St. Louis. Speeds suck as well.

I am in Baltimore, the first 4G market. I really don't think it has to do with coverage....before rooting (and even after rooting, when on 4G), I get about 3.6 down and 1 up (upload is capped at 1 by Sprint).
I also live in a high rise that's half a mile from Clearwire's 4G tower........my issue is that after rooting, the EVO is not locking to 4g, it keeps switching back and forth between 3g and 4g.

Same issue here... Try this: go to settings and disable mobile networks (i.e. turn 3G off). When I do this, speed test works fine, but as soon as I try to do something real it disconnects and says there is no connection, even if it had a strong signal... not terribly useful!

L_Mo,
Were you having this issue before rooting (I am just assuming that you did root)? I swear that I did not have this issue before doing the full root and Nand unlock. When I just had Unrevoked root, I was using my Evo as my internet connection for my laptops for a full week with no issues and as a result I disconnected my Comcast cable internet.
I am just at a loss here, if I can't get this fixed, I will have to either flash the phone back to stock or take it back to Sprint for an exchange.
Rayden1000
I had the same problem after rooting. I am having better luck with Flipz stock rooted rom. I am using Flipz ota 1.32.651.6 rooted rom with the 1.39.00.05.31 radio. I wiped cache and delvic before flashing.
If this doesn't work for you you can get the stock RUU and reflash to unrooted stock.

Unrevoked is a ***** root and couldn't possibly mess with your 4G, sorry to say!
And, to the rest of you, rooting would not mess with your signal at all unless you dropped your phone or some ****. Installing the newest radio would be my only recommendation. Or you can unroot it and try to exchange it for a different EVO.

I had the same issue. Reflashed the RUU and still had connection problems (good 4g signal, but use the internet and it drops and switches to 3g). Didn't have problems with my 4g data card though.
edit: I actually thought I messed something up myself before I even rooted. I was in a bad area and kept roaming even though I could get a weak Sprint signal so I switched it to Sprint only and I think I mightve messed with some other settings under that mobile network tab. What are the default settings?
So basically, something in the full rooting process (not the unrevoked one), f's up the baseband or access to the baseband? I am not an electronic engineer, but it's obvious that doing the full root messes up 4G.
Any senior members in the know have a fix for this? I already exchanged my Evo once because of several stuck pixels, it would look suspicious if I went back to the store again...

Don't take what I said as a definite Evo or root problem. I'm curious as to if it's a 4g here in Philly problem. When I first bought the 4g card it was great, but wasn't using it so I returned it. Bought it again 4 months later and I returned that one because the 4g was terrible. I'm thinking 4g where I'm at sucks and is getting worse with more and more people jumping on it. I was a 3g early adopter so I'm not worried yet.
edit: I'm gonna go down to an area that's known to have a good 4g signal after work and sit around and do some "testing".
Which market are you in? Sprint has been doing a ton of testing in markets that aren't officially live yet.
I don't think it has anything to do with the ROM.
If when you are connected to 4G you can access the internet, only suddenly 4G it drops for no reason and switch to 3G and then reconnects to 4G and goes on and on, below is the solution. if when you are connected to 4G you can not access the internet at all, the below wont fix it for you and it is probably a problem with your rom.
You will need your msl code to fix this, loop up in the forums to to obtain your msl code from Sprint:
hit ##DATA# > Edit mode.
Put in your msl code
Chose WIMAX
Scroll down to Wimax_Idle_Sleep
Change the value from 10 to 300.
Click menu, commit changes and restart the phone.
This fixed it for me and i never drop 4g (when in good coverage) again.
Basically Sprint has some STUPID setting that tells 4g to go into "sleep mode" of no data is passed on the 4g connection after 10 seconds which is essentially disconnecting 4g.
The problem is it goes into sleep mode (disconnecting), but then rescans and look for a 4G signal > reconnects to 4g and if no data will be passed in 10sec it will do the same again in an endless loop.
10sec to put a connection into sleep mode is really low so change it to 300sec.
The odd thing is that this is only happening in certain locations and with certain towers.
I tried to call Sprint and explain about this issue but my attempts fell on death ears.
Go ahead and try the above. if it helps you please someone make this a sticky as you are not the first i see having the issue.

I am in baltimore, the first 4G market.
I have to tend to agree that something in "Part 2" is messing up something with 4G. I've done Part 1 and successfully "upped" the radio with no 4G loss. Living in $G Vegas, I would get solid 2 bars inside my office. Once I did Part 2 and redid the phone, I would get "jumping" from 3G to 4G...
I still have to wonder, when flashing the new radio, why (after Part 2) it gets "stuck" in formatting cache and you get no "confirmation" of an upgrade. I am an AnooBroid...but this just doesn't seem right to me.
(Edited) - This post is now obsolete... Teaches me to refresh the page on the Evo before posting!
A good friend of mine waited to receive the OTA update of Froyo for his Incredible and when he got it he installed it. The bad part that I need help with is that when his phone rebooted it wouldn't allow the 3G data network to work. That section in settings is greyed out saying "Turning on..." and will not connect. The phone portion runs just fine. I have since returned the phone back to 2.1 and the same problem persists. If someone could help us out that would be awesome!!!
This probably wasn't posted in the right section...
I had an issue with 3G not connecting after downloading the froyo OTA off the internet and applying it as an update.zip.
I'm not sure if this is the same thing, but mine seemed to be that it wouldn't switch from the wifi network to the 3G network after getting out of range of the wifi (its set to auto connect to my home wifi, so it went straight to that after I rebooted it after the update). Then it wouldn't connect with the wifi off. I think I turned off both wifi and 3G and rebooted it with them off, and then turned back on 3G, and it worked. Everything is working normally now.
I'm not really sure why this would happen, I was wondering if it possibly had something to do with the phone registering itself after the update, and then not registering the 3G because it was on wifi and sort of "forgot?" That's just idle speculation though...
Also you might want to clear out your cache.
This might not be related to your problem, but I hope it helps!

Thanks for your effort, it did not work unfortunately.
Did he happen to have anything that controls 3G installed? Tasker? Juicedefender?
If he powered off while the data we disabled, and updated, then 3G won't work. Period.
I've heard of ways of restoring the APN or something, search the forums on that.

He did not have any type of app like that. He is a very novice user. I tried searching for restoring APN with no luck, anyone else?
When I first flashed Virtuous2.0 and did the initial setup, I didn't get 3G either. I'm pretty sure a good old fashioned *228 did the trick. I did have a backup through APN Backup & Restore, but didn't need to use it.
Have you tried turning on the airport mode, rebooting, turning off airport mode. Or perhaps do a *228?

Tried this too and no luck.
Go to Verizon and tell them to fix it fix fix it fix it! If he's running stock its nothing he did. Sounds super bunk that they finally got froyo only to not be able to use 3g.
The loss of 3g data is a bug with the froyo builds. All the froyo roms and the official ota have this issue.
sent from my Droid Incredible using XDA app.
this just happened to my friend too. I updated his phone last week with the OTA and since then he hasn't had 3g, but wifi would work.
did a rom manager backup before hand though, so i told him to revert back, and everything is working again. not sure why flashing back didn't work for you
So he hasn't had 3g at all? He can make calls and a *228 option # 1 doesn't update his settings and reboot? Maybe something when wrong on the install, whats hboot say?
Assuming he's completely stock I'd suggest going to the Verizon store and having them try.
Hi, I was hoping someone here may be able to help me out with this problem. Last week I had a weird issue where my GPS signal stopped working, text messages and phone calls weren't coming into the phone. I've since been able to correct that issue with flashing to a clean Sense based ROM, and updating the profile and PRL, but now I can't seem to pickup 3G EVDO signal, only 2G 1xRTT..
My phone is(was) rooted and flashed with Calkulin's EViO 2 v1.77, most current radios. I thought maybe something got messed up, and since 1.8 was out, I flashed to that. Same issue, updated the radio from his package, same thing. Then I thought, ok, maybe something with this rom is messed up(unlikely, but I was grasping at straws at this point), so I flashed to a different rom, think it was sprint lovers.. same thing. Flashed to CM7, same. Unrooted and flashed back to stock, took it into Sprint, which they did a hard reset and told me since it shows the 3G icon in the top bar, it is on 3G and working fine. This is ofcourse bull**** since the Evo shows that 3G icon even if its on 1xRTT signal..Sprint tossing out wrong info, shocking I know. I've used Antennas and OpenSignal apps to show that it is indeed connecting to the 1xRTT signal. Downloading anything on the phone is ofcourse slow too, I've had google maps updating now for about 15 minutes, and it is 5.86MB.
Would anybody have some suggestions of what I can try to get the 3G radio working again?
Anybody have a suggestion of what I could try here? I've changed my PRL to the Verizon one, which gives the same results. Still having the same problem.
ya its calkulin's 1.8. the new extended mobile data menu hack has a messed up default that sets it to evdo only by default, messing up everything else. switching roms doenst help. go back to calk's 1.8 and type in the dialer ##3282# select view only and make sure mode of operation is on automatic.
Hey guys, I just recently updated to sense 3.0 and immediately after my phone will show 3g then it will drop to 1x then soon after it shows no data connection. If I try to open an app that uses data like the market it tells me there is no connection, some apps tell me to check and make sure I am not in airplane mode. Then randomly 3g will kick back on for a bit then it will cycle back through 1x and no data again. I also cant tether anymore either.
I reverted back to the stock rom backup (only root no other changes) and now my signal does the same thing. I have no way to get data now and its super frustration.
Things I have tried..
Calling Verizon (solution is warranty replacement)
*228 (does nothing)
Bringing back a known working backup (does nothing)
Restart/Battery pull (nothing)
Putting it in and out of airplane mode (nothing)
I am currently downloading 2 different roms and the newest radio and I will try and flash those and see if it works.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

flawless, thank you so much
I've been running CM7 stable since May without any issues. Friday night I visit a friend who's pretty far out and I usually only get 1 or no bars. I tried to look up something on my phone but i got a 'Data Roaming - you have lost data connectivity' notification. I didn't think much of it and turned on Data roaming to use the 1x data for the time. Then the next day at home where i get great connection i noticed i was still on 1x. I turned off roaming and the data connection notification pops up and i can't get any data. I've updated my radios to current releases and even tried reflashing but i still can't get any data. Any suggestions?

Good guess but it's not that. I've turned data on and off multiple times to see if i could just reset a connection but it never does. I can't figure this out, i did not change anything and all of a sudden i lost my data :c
Bumpy. I recently got a new battery and tried using my old one but that didn't help either. I'm really at a loss of ideas.
Have you tried reflashing cuz it happen to me on another ROM and I reflashed it and it worked idk give it a shot bruh

My friend since you tried all those other routes why dont you just refresh your data. You will have to flash back to Sense but I think that should do the trick. Get your MSL code from Sprint or the MSL reader in the market and go for it. There should be quite a few threads in google to show you how to do it without call Sprint. Its harmless to try and will refresh everything for you. May not hurt to update prl as well
