Help me with Myn's Swype!!! - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I first move the inputmethod.apk from /data/apps to /system/apps (rename it to make sure it has no -1 or -2), reboot my phone, then apply the update through metamorph, click apply, then reboot my phone again. After the phone loads up and I go to Language & Settings, Swype doesn't exist, but it's still installed on my phone. Any ideas? I'm completely lost.

You have to have swype on the phone in the first place. What release of myns are you running because swype only comes with rls 5. If you are running anything before that it wont work because that it just to put a theme on your already existing swype. It doesnt add swype, it just changes how it looks. (which is quite nice might I add)

i am running myn's new release of rls5. before i tried metamorph i downloaded swype from my beta invitation in my email. is that the incorrect way to do it?

What version is the swype? And shouldn't you be naming it Swype.apk with a cap S. I made a video explaining how to apply themes but idk if that's what you're looking for.

I know that on Myn's RLS5, all you have to do to change the input method is go to any text box and then long press. It will then bring up "input method". click on that, then choose swype. I don't think it will change anything if you downloaded metamorph, but downloading the swype beta may have changed something. The swype Myn has included with his RLS 5 is the same one from the latest update from Sprint.
I guess if all else fails, start fresh? Wipe everything.
Hope this helps

[Q] Need Help Putting Myn's Theme on Swype

I followed all the steps to the letter. Went into Root Explorer and found the swype apk in data/app. Held it down and moved it to system/app. Renamed it by taking out the 1. Rebooted.
Went into metamorph and extracted the theme. When I go to apply, it says .com.android.swype-1.apk can not be found in target data/app/
2 things:
Why is it looking in there? I moved it out of there
I renamed it so why is it looking for that old file name?
It also said the sub theme was put into data/app.
I'm stuck. I even tested it out by renaming it to what it wanted and put it back to where it was looking and nothing at all.
Any help? I'd really like to have the all black swype instead of the gray. Goes with my theme. I even watched the Youtube video and am doing everything he is.

Un-install swype, reboot, install, reboot. Then try to metamorph it without moving it. Same thing happened to me.

On the post with those instructions, there is a fixed version of the theme. Download it & follow instructions again.

Yeah, I'm having a problem with this as well. I followed the instructions, but when I go into MetaMorph to update the theme, an error pops up that says, "The theme you selected is invalid because the theme control file could not be read and may be missing." Any ideas?
If you use warm 2.2 either donate to get the RLS5 beta, or wait a few days to get the final. Either way RLS5 has themed swype built in.

Thanks! Did not see that. Probably should put that link on the main Rom page and replace it. I see that is what the guy in the video is using, too.

Hmmmmm. I may do that but I really want it now, lol. I can be impatient like that. Id this new fix gives me issues, I will wait for Rls 5. Is it dropping this week?
Well that new zip did work.
But everytime I install Swype, move it to the system/app folder and reboot, it's not there for use when I get back.
I guess I'll just wait for Rls 5 to include it. I've been trying this since yesterday.

I'm also having a similar problem. I first move the inputmethod.apk from /data/apps to /system/apps, reboot my phone, then apply the update through metamorph, reboot my phone again. Then the phone loads up, it says swype doesn't exist. Any suggestions?
Just upgrade to RLS5. Now that Swype is on the official Sprint ROM, it can be included in custom ROMs. RLS5 is a good upgrade, and it will have the themed Swype already there.

[Q] CyanogenMod 6.1.2 vs Swype?

I just rooted and flashed CM6.1.2 last night. Before I flashed it, I made a backup of Swype (that came pre-loaded on the phone) with Titanium Backup.
After flashing CM6, I noticed in Titanium Backup that Swype was listed at the bottom in gray, crossed out. I'm not able to restore it.
I signed up for the beta on Swype's site, got the installer, installed Swype, and it's back again... but I'm sure this isn't the same deal because it's a "beta" and I don't want it to expire. I have no desire to go back to factory image because of the Sprint and HTC bloatware.
tl;dr: how can I get my actual copy of Swype (that was pre-installed) back?
Well, there's two options:
1) Stick with the beta (recommended) because even if it "expires", just fire up the installer and get the new version. It will always have a newer, better, faster version than Sense.
2) If for some reason you're hell-bent on keeping the older version of Swype from Sense, rip the Swype.apk from /system/app/ and libswype.so from /system/lib/ from a Sense ROM, then copy them to the respective places once you've loaded CM again via Nandroid backup+restore.
Seriously though, stick with the beta. It's already ahead of the Sense version, and is getting updated within the next few weeks, plus you don't have to re-install it every time you flash an update to your ROM (whereas with the Sense one, you'd have to re-copy the files, each, and, every, time, you, flash, an, update).
So I just flashed CM 6.12 last night and now I'm trying to get Swype back (not that the CM keyboard isn't great, because it is, I just love Swype is all).
I just signed up for the beta again, got the installer, installed it, then when I try to type, I get this:
"The Swype package you installed is configured for another device and will operate with limited functionality. Please contact Swype about this issue."

Strange... just tried this, was able to type "hello" but at the same time the same message came up; now it's not swyping any more words.
rerun the beta installer, dont rush it, after enabling swype, then selecting it in the input method choice box that prompts during the installer, wait for it to license, most people rush to use it at that point but it can take a few seconds to license

How to get Myn's Swype?

I have read over some of the other threads asking similar questions, but my situation is a little different.
I have been running MIUI for a while, but now it says that my Swype beta has run out of time. I like the version of Swype that has the talk-to-text button. I have read that Myn's ROM doesn't actually have Swype, it just themes it. The only issue I have with this is that it no longer works on any ROM I try, except for Myn's.
Can I get Myn's version off of his ROM, I like it more, or is there some way I can get the old one to start working again? I have also read about removing some Swype files, can't find them where it tells me to look, and I have removed it using Titanium backup.

update your swype. that's it.

You should be able to go on the swype website and install the beta, it has the speech to text button.
I did the beta, but it still won't swype. I can type, but I can't swype.

Are you sure you tried the latest Beta? I had this problem yesterday with an older version of Swype that was themed. I uninstalled Swype, Installed the Swype installer app and let it update. Then I downloaded and installed Swype using the Swype Installer app. It works no problems. I lost the theme for it, but it works nonetheless. I am sure there's a way to pull the Swype from Myn's Rom and put it in yours, but it is not as simple and pulling the .apk and installing it on MIUI. You have to pull other things in System files and push them via ADB. I am sure you could find your answer on how to do this here because I know you are not the first person I have seen ask this question and I know that you question has been answered.

I got a themed Swype from the Elite rom (black) which also has the mic. Here's what I did.
Download Sense rom to your computer.
Unzip the rom
Copy from the rom /system/ app/Swype.apk and /system/lib/libSwypeCore.so onto your computer.
Using ADB, push the apk to /system/app on your phone
Push libSwypeCore.so to /system/lib on your phone.
If you really don't like ADB, I guess you can root explorer but I don't have that app. I find it easier and faster to use adb.

[Q] where did the add ons go?

Hello everyone.. I downloaded the Myn 2.2 rls5 and when I downloaded the rom it asked if I wanted to install a bunch of add ons. I checked off which ones I wanted and now have no clue where I can go to retrieve it. I go into recovery and try finding the folder that has it but have no clue where it went. Does it install with the rom automatically or do I have to go to the folder and install the ones I wanted manually. Thanks everyone.

What exactly asked you to add add ons, and what did it want to add? I'm not sure what you mean. Was it after the rom installed, something asked you to update? If you already had Myn's downloaded, and then downloaded some add ons (say...using the warm updater, maybe is that what you mean?) then they would most likely be in a folder called 'downloads', on your sd card. I'm pretty sure that's where they'd go to. If not, look for a folder on your sd card labeled warm updater, or something like that. If you're talking about something else, please be a little more specific as to what it was that asked you to update, and what type of add ons you selected. thanks.

Being that I do not use ROM Manager or the Warm Updater for installation purposes, I'm going to take a guess at the addons I *think* you're referring to. If those addons are stuff like, Qik, Sprint TV, NASCAR app, etcetera, then they are located on your SD card inside a folder labeled warm_optional1 or something to that extent. If these are not what you are referring to, please be more specific so we can help locate them for you. Take care.

Yup. They are named Warm_2.2_Optional1..... I don't use the rom anymore but I still have that folder saved just in case
I actually had myn's warm 2.2 rls4 prior to updating to the most current RLS5. But when I updated to the rls5 file it first asks you to check off what add ons you want to download also with the ROM (ex) Hulu, web browser speed up, boot animations,kernals... so i checked off all the ones I wanted and installed the rom. I was trying to find the zip file of the web browser speed enhancer and have no clue where to find these files that i downloaded with the ROM. I appreciate all the responses. thank u

I am assuming you used the warm updater to update to RLS5. If so, that'll explain why those of us who wipe and flash via recovery haven't noticed the things yo mentioned during installation. As for the speed enhancement for the browser, it us referring to the spare parts app that was cooked into RLS5. Its host file is outdated thus the reason for the slow internet speed. Simply download and install the Spare Parts app from the market and when you initiate the app, either select "revert" for ads or "update hosts" for no ads and then reboot.

[Q] Swype not working on New CM7.1

Oddly, I cannot reinstall Swype how I used to. I have the lib file as well as the Swype.apk and I would usually push it through using ADB. It got pushed successfully and I could use Swype as a NORMAL keyboard but I cannot Swype. There is a blue box around the Swype keyboard after I try to swype. Ultimately, I get a message that says the Swype was installed for a device that is not the current device that I am trying to install it on. It worked just fine on all past CM7. I realize we're on 2.3.7 now but how come it doesn't work? What was the drastic change?
I'd also like to know why it's not working anymore. I followed the same procedure I always do to restore it after installing a new version of CM, but it's not letting me swipe words.
this exact same thing happened on g-lite yesterday to me had to restore to previous rom...weird!
Edit your /system/build.prop
Back to:
ro.product.model=T-Mobile G2
ro.product.brand=tmobile
reboot...profit...
that would have been helpful last night or this morning lol. Either way it was giving all kinds of weird problems and no amount of superwiping would fix the random reboots. I only flashed g-lite to overclock boo

I use ES File Explorer... it's free in the Market. You just need to enable read/write in the Settings and you'll be ready to go. I edit mine in the way mentioned above after every ROM update. I like to use T-Mobile's My Account/My Device apps. Works perfectly. Reboot after you make the change.
Or you could just download the installer from sype beta and install swype. Pretty basic

Yeah, I was wondering why you folks don't just do that, instead of messing with ADB and editing system files.
would you be able to describe the steps in detail, the above descriptions are way to vague. Any help would be appreciated, I too have swype and it is not working properly. Thanks Greg
go to the swype beta site (make sure you uninstall all traces of swype) register and in your email you get a link for your phone...it will download an installer apk install that, start it up and it will download and install the latest swype....thats it.

I contacted Swype about this issue.
They responded and said that Swype does not (and will not) support custom ROMs of any kind. Your best bet is the beta.
See: http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...gn=Feed:+xda-developers/ShsH+(xda-developers)
I'm surprised it worked on CM for as long as it did. What puzzles me, is in the statement above they say its ok for devs to include Swype in roms for phones that had Swype preinstalled (same version must be provided). I may contact Swype again based on that.

the old version of swype that i had, 1.64.x worked with cm7.0.3, but not with cm7.1.0. i downloaded the new version of swype, 3.25.x, and it works with cm7.1.0
Thanks, everyone! Took more steps than the old Swype Restore method for the RC.
My steps:
Uninstall Swype using Titanium Backup.
Download APK from Swype website (after signing up)
Install APK
Select OPEN button
Login to my Swype beta account
Enter account code (email)
Select all languages (because there was no English only option)
Open Android keyboard
Go to keyboard settings
Select Swype
Accept EULA
I got the Swype beta and hate it . I get more wrong words than the stock Swype. I've tried different settings still getting dumb words popping up.

I found the answer over on the Swype Beta forums...
I would suggest using THIS method for uninstalling your old swype
Go to Settings -> Language & Keyboard and UNCHECK Swype.
Go to Settings -> Applications -> Swype Press CLEAR DATA. Then press UNINSTALL.
Go to Settings -> Applications -> SwypeInstaller Press CLEAR DATA. Then press UNINSTALL. (won't have this- maybe Swype Restore?)
Delete everything from the download directory on your SDcard
Reboot your device.
Install the update latest version of Swype. (As detailed in an earlier post)
It seems the data from the old swype was causing a problem with the latest version.
Sounds like a good habit, because if you have any trouble they will want you to do
that anyway...
