I'm glad I'm not the only one, I flashed an older RUU earlier and I've been trying all night to get my PRL updated again. It looks like I'm stuck with 60662 for now.
If you turn off your 3G for a second it should come back on but I'm thinking the PRL issue is something with Sprint's network. I've tried just about every ROM/RUU/Radio combo I can think of and nothing. Updating my profile does the same but I haven't tried re-activating it for fear that it will get stuck in limbo.
edit: yup, it's not going to update tonight. I'm going to quit flashing radios now before I brick my phone.
good, ok seems like its a sprint issue then, im located in leesburg, FL just head up guys!!!
also i dunno if anyone else has had this issue but 4g will work but if i run speed tests a couple of times it will randomly stop working without disconnecting...

I'm not too far from you then, I'm over here on the space coast. Sprint has been turning on a lot of 4G here lately so their network hasnt been acting right for at least a week now.
ah thats pretty cool, its good to see that 4g is getting activated or "tested" in alot of FL. even my area is getting it alrdy... and im in old people land... haha
PRL updated.... I finally got my phone back to normal after thinking I hosed it and my 4G speeds doubled what they where day before yesterday.
Signal is still just as weak though.
hmm mine seems to still not update... u do anything differently?
update: nvm there it goes

currently on latest Fresh Froyo, everythings fine till I tried to make calls.
full bars of signal, makes calls fine, all of sudden it just disconnects, im in northern california, if anyone else having that issue here, reply here.
Perhaps you have not tried this yet, but try updating your PRL then (excuse me im on cm6 and tell you the exact name of this) the other option that is in the same menu for the prl has to with something preparing the device for the network.
My calls sound like **** to the other people and break up. Usually both of us have good service and I'm the one with 2.2, the other callers have 2.1.
In N. California too, SJ specifically and no problems even with Google Voice.

I agree. My bad service started today or later yesterday (tuesday). I've also noticed that my phone will roam a lot easier just around time and sometimes when it's in my pocket and I pull it out.
So I wanted to try out different kernels yesterday. I'm rooted using the Stock ROM.
My phone was already running netanarchy's 4.1.9.1 with no problems, but I wanted to try out King's kernel BFS #8 as well as #6. I did a cache and dalvik wipe prior to each flash. In the end, I deemed that I personally like netanarchy's kernels more, so I switched back to 4.1.9.1.
However, now my 4G keeps turning on and off. This is causing my phone to significantly lag in intervals correlating with the on and off of the 4G toggle. Is it possible that flashing different kernels somehow borked my wimax radio?
Any help is much appreciated.
Is it anything like I described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8052344
I'm having this issue and I never even rooted my phone. Note my latest reply that I did a hard reset on one of the evo's and now the 4g radio hangs on "turning on..." when I try to turn it on. Still seeing that now. Considering doing the unrevoked 3.2 to root it and try to fix it since sprint is clueless on the issue.
Yea, it is similar to your issue. I found your thread after I posted mine. I tried updating to the latest Wimax update found on XDA and that helped somewhat.
My 4G stays on, scans, and says connecting to Sprint network. However, it never successfully connects. I now believe I have the dreaded MAC address problem and am now trying to fix it.
I can't even see my 4G MAC address because I can't get the 4G radio to turn on. How else can I check whether my keys are screwed up (without being rooted)?
try dialing ##3282# and select view mode. Go to WiMax and look under NIA. That should have the MAC address.
If it does not match what is listed on your box, then your MAC addresses do not match.

You gotta be rooted to do that. As for your keys getting hammered, the key issue arises on rooted phones after a bad flash, or corrupted radio file. More than likely your keys are fine. Let me ask you this, have you previously have 4G working, and it just stopped working? Or you now just tried to use it, and it's not working?

Yes, it used to work. I picked up signal around the boston area a month or two ago (before boston officially had 4g). I can't remember whether I used 4g successfully after the 2.2 upgrade. I was part of the group that did the .3 leaked 2.2 update and then took the .3 to .6 update OTA. I have never rooted this phone.

There is no WiMax option when I do this. I think the WiMax radio needs to be switched on to see this. But I can't get the radio to turn on.
I've been using alogcat to try to debug the issue. I see this error come up about 90 seconds after trying to enable 4G (this is the same time the "turning on..." changes to "Unable to start 4g"):
E/WimaxStateTracker( 104): Failed to load Wimax driver -=>wl.release
I haven't been able to find any information about what this might mean.
same problem here; ever since running unrevoked 3 the other day, my evo 4g keeps turning 4G on and off by itself, and, wont let me stop it from doing that..
its killing my battery with its constant searching, and I cant find any sort of "tweak" that will allow me to just shut it off or leave it on; the widgets dont do it, so I cant figure out how to stop it..
was working fine before this..
On stock 2.2 froyo, stock kernel...
any ideas?
thanks!

Ok you may have hammered your 4G then. I've heard of a couple of people who took the leaked update, and fouled up their 4G. I would suggest you backup your stuff then run the latest RUU to see if that clears things up with the wimax driver not loading. If not take the phone to Sprint.

i read the thread you started about this issue. you mentioned you were having trouble breaking the on/off loop but then mentioned your wife somehow was able to do it. while in the on/off loop, did you find that the the radio was actually spending any time "scanning" after it turned on? on one of my evos, the phone would switch from on to off and back to on so quickly, the button was always grayed out in the wireless menu so i could never interrupt it. on my other evo, it would spend a little time scanning ( a second or 2), which was enough time to press the button so the 4g would turn off for good and break the on/off loop. a hard reset fixed the phone with the unbreakable loop (4g now works). a hard reset caused the other phone to change so that 4g just hangs at "turning on..." when i try to toggle it on.

By running the latest RUU, do you mean perform the latest OTA sprint update (the .6) by putting in on my SD card and doing the volume down/power button trick? Is this safe if I already have the update applied? I was considering doing this but wasn't sure if it would be safe to do.
Hey guys my 3g is not as fast anymore after constant flashing of roms and radios and now I never get over 500kbps..any suggestions?
I've been having the same problem! I seen somewhere about reconnecting your phone with Sprint towers, but can't find the post about it again anywhere.
Did yall try updating your profile?

Sorry but thats all i got. Ive noticed sometimes i get bad reception but i havnt up dated my radios since fresh 3.4 came out. Ive been running cm for a long time so that might be it but its not enough to make me flash back to sense to fix it. I hope you get everything figured out.

Hey no problem man I appreciated the help..I guess my next move will be to flash fresh Rom..the speed seems to come and go on myns rls 5 but on any other Rom speed is completely horrible but let's see..ill get back with results.
I've been having the same issues. I've noticed when running the speedtest app sometimes it detects the closest server being over in Europe (I'm from Wisconsin). It appears to be tower related. When I'm on the tower closest to my house it detects the closest location in Missouri? Awkward. I'm on CM 6.1.2 running snap 7.6 with turbo enabled. Most times I see speeds of .3 mbit. Turn on wifi and I instantly max out my connection at 8 mbit. If only 3g were that fast, lol.
Hey all, this isn't a major issue, but it's something that I'd like to work out. I've been using a custom ROMs on my phone for about 6 months now and I'm currently running the MikFroYo v4.4.
Recently I've been noticing my 4G connection isn't working as well as it used to (trouble connecting, disconnects shortly after connecting, etc) and my 3G is slower than it was 3-4 months ago as well. In the MikFroYo thread it was mentioned that these issues might be helped by doing a profile update in the system settings. So I tried that, and it doesn't work.
It doesn't error out, it doesn't update the profile, it just displays "The network is preparing your services..." nonstop. It did that for almost 20 minutes before I hit "cancel". I thought it might be due to a slow/weak data connection so I connected the phone over wifi and it did it again for 10-15min before I cancelled it.
Any thoughts or recommendations on how to get this to update and hopefully help out my 3G/4G issues?
(A few months ago I could get 6-7 Mbps out of wimax and now I'm getting like 0.7-1 Mbps at most when I can even get a signal; that's how much of a drop I'm seeing.)
Ok, I got it working. I don't know exactly what did it, but I rebooted the phone (had tried that before to no avail), downloaded the new BusyBox from Titanium Backup, and did a Wimax Key Check (all good), then did it again and it went through.
So, I don't know what was causing it, but it's good now.

You can't update your profile over wifi. You have to been on the sprint network. I don't know what causes it but, I had the same problem for a few days here in North Texas. It did update when I got a better connection.
I have had this phone since the day it came out I was @ Radio shack @ 8 Am
I have had a good run with this phone and it still amazes me.
The only problem I have is that I have never had 4G The last rom I saw 4g on was cm7 and it still wouldnt stay on. I thought maybe it was my location the fact that I was rooted etc Then I got my wife one and she has a strong signal all day 4Mb+ speeds so I really am wondering if its just a hardware issue or something else.
I am running the latest Fresh4.1.1.0
Anybody know or have any experience with this?
maybe
I'm no expert but I used fresh 4.1 to update my prl for cm7... I had no 4g on fresh but once I did all the required steps for cm7 4g works fine along with everything else except the annoying voicemail notification.. anyway if all else fails... unroot and flash stock... get a replacement from sprint...

I don't have any problems connecting to 4G running Fresh. Have you checked your wimax keys? I think there's a free app to do this...
Get wimax key checker from the market and make sure you didn't lose your rsa keys if you have them I would try to update your prl and profile.
