I cant fix my Voicemail - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay guys, I have searched on Google, and found a few possible solutions to my problem, but was not successful in my attempts. I know I've seen threads pertaining to this type of thing, however the xda search is currently down, and I'm losing my patience. I never had any issues with voicemail before, but recently I switched from Myn's to the CM Wimax alpha 3 ROM. While I was on that, visual voicemail didnt work, and I started getting texts from 9016, telling me that I had a voicemail. I didn't pay much attention to it, because I thought that VVM was a lost feature on CM. Anyways, I switched back to Myn's, however the VVM still won't work, and I still recieve those texts, which I never got prior to trying CM. The only way I can get a voicemail is to actually call from my phone, and enter my passcode and what not. Based on the stuff I found on google, there was a number I found to call, to try to deactivate, which was 14089700000. I couldn't figure out how to deactivate, and gave up on that. I also found info saying to use the VVM app to compose a message and send it to [email protected]. I don't know if that works, because for some reason my phone won't send that message. It just says "message undelivered", and retrying yeilds nothing. I tried clearing the data from the VVM app, and when I restart the app, it says that it's authorizing my info, but then says error, connection timed out, your VM service won't be interrupted. I'm confused and out of ideas, and without the xda search, I'm lost. Thanks in advance guys.

Anyone?

Alright from my experience Sprint VVM never worked right with CM at all. I always just used google voice and set up the forwarding by following the instructions on google (something like *28###-###-####). However it seems like something got messed up in the voicemail setup. I would go into settings applications manage applications all, scroll down to Voicemail, Clear Data and Force stop. Hopefully this will reset the application and make you provision it again. You can also try by dialing *38 to make sure you have everything forwarded correctly. By doing this it should revert your forwarding back to Sprints original VVM provisioning. Judging by the fact that you know how to switch between roms I'm assuming you are not incompetent. Also make sure this: go into setting call and make sure your voicemail service is set to My carrier and then go into voicemail settings. Other than that I have no idea what to do.
P.S. I looked at your signature and you still have the old PRI and Radio. Shouldn't have anything to do with it but if you revert back to stock and take it into Sprint, they will ask you to update everything.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried dialing *38 already, made sure that voicemail was set to 'my carrier', made sure it was set to my phone number, i tried sending '[email protected]' using the compose feature of the vvm app. For some reason, that message wouldn't send. It just keeps saying, message undelivered. I was able to nandroid back to another backup of RLS5 that I had, and was actually able to get it working. It's just on Myn's beta for the Z ROM that I can't get it to work, however many other people are stating that it does indeed work on that build. I don't know, I gave up with it I guess, I switched to google voice, and that seems to be working okay. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Ya no problem man....I really really like google voice but I just decided to stay with Sprint VVM. Hopefully some day they will make voicemail transcription free for Sprint.

[Q] How can I re-enable visual voice mail?

After flipping between ROMS, I find my VVM is no longer working, nothing goes to my VVM. Even when I get voicemails, they do not show up in that app.
I did do something once when using CM6, I got a text message from that 9016 and called the number it said to retrieve it. Ever since my VVM has not been working. I am currently running Baked. Any suggestions?
I have the same problem on the Baked 1.5 rom. It tells me that I have a voicemail, but is unable to retrieve.
If it were me, I'd flash a stock rooted rom. See if voicemail works with that. If it doesn't, call customer service and tell them you are having problems with visual voice mail retrieval and if they would be so kind as to give your voice mail a full reset on their side.

Here's a few I googled and some possible fixes.
Oh, this is for the text from 9016 snafu. I don't know if it will help you.
Make sure under Call / Voicemail Settings that it displays your phone number. Otherwise I would wipe and reflash.

Lol. You will keep getting that txt. I'm not going to flame you but if you would of searched the forum you would of seen my post on vvm from yesterday or used the search feature I'm sure it would of popped up with vvm.
Anyways use the app private conversation from the market. Has a blacklist. Can do just SMS, phone call, and both SMS and phone call from a number. This is what I used.
Now go to settings and call setting, voicemail and make sure your phone number is in there if not change it. Mine was *86 so I had to change the number to mine. There ya go. Please do a little effort on searching. I use the xda app and the search always brings up roms and themes most of the time instead of what I'm looking for but I still try first and go to the forums and go through a big list.
Hope this helps.

You the man! This was the problem (for me at least). It had the option of using "carrier" or "google voice" for voicemail and neither one was checked. I'm assuming that's because the data wipe and installation of a new rom. I checked carrier and tested it out. It's now good to go.
Thanks!
Got it working =]
@martyzidek: I did search first, but I was probably overly specific and got no results from my search =[
@herbthehammer: I did just that, installed a plain rooted 2.2, and for good measure I then ran a Master Reset (##786#) since I already knew my code from trying to update the PRI. I double checked that my voicemail # was showing up correctly (thanks @dglowe343), then had my girlfriend call and leave a message. I then received 6 voicemails all at once: the one that my girlfriend just left and the 5 others that didn't show up. =]

Resetting Voicemail

Guys so a few nights ago I gave up trying to get VVM to work on CM7 nightly and moved to google voice. Some how one thing or another happened and I got the little voicemail icon at the top of the screen. I mistakenly dialed my own number and setup a pin for voicemail. Now when someone calls my phone and if i dont answer it says "could not complete your call" and they dont get my voicemail box.
I have tried wiping and flashing a sense rom no dice
I flashed a sense rom and sent the [email protected] and it did nothing
How can i get voicemail back onto my phone without having to dial in?

I'd stick with google voice personally. I've used both sprint VVM and google voice and google voice wins hands down. Just make sure you setup google voice mail correctly though, got setting>call>voicemail service. set that to google voice then goto voicemail settings and click voicemail number, it should then have you call a number to activate the service and after about 3 seconds it'll hang up automatically. you should be set! goto google.com/voice and setup all the different preferences. Best I can do, goodluck

to get sprint vvm to work on cm7 you need to flash back to a rom where vvm worked. try it out to make sure it still works, the back it up with titanium back up.
then nand back to cm7 and restore the vvm app.
everything should now work fine
So far I have tried:
Flashing Stock Sense and trying voicemail. Still isnt working, when someone calls me and if i decline the call or miss it, they are presented with a "cannot complete your call" as if i no longer have a voicemail box
Completely Wiped and used Format All, flashed Sense. Same issue, no one can leave me a message. Installed and activated Google Voice, same issue
Tried this on AOSP as well same issues as above.
Anyone ever seen this issue?
So i think im not being clear really as the few replies have been items i have tried
Basically I can no longer access my voicemail through google voice or sprint visual voice mail
I have to dial my number, enter a pin and go through the voicemail as if this wasnt a smart phone. When someone tries to leave a voicemail they get a message "could not complete your call"
any way i can fix this or do i need to go to sprint to have them reset my voicemail? Do i need to go into voicemail settings and setup a forwarding number?

ok ok its something messed up with your voice mail, not the phone.
id call sprint.
In Google Voice, when I click on "Deactivate Google Voicemail from this phone", it tells me to dial *38 from my EVO. It may be the code that changes voicemail conditional forwarding back to Sprint. Maybe you could try that?

You have to go to google voice and remove your phone and all should then work
dial *38 that stops your calls from being forwarded to google voice.
if you want to use google voice you have to go through the settings for google voice and dial the number it tells you to so it will forward after so many rings. as for the voice mail icon in cm7 there is a setting for voice mail notifications that you can turn off and you will not get it every time you reboot. if you are using google voice you dont need the notification set.

Problems with google voice on CM7 Droid Incredible

My gf's phone has been having some issues with google voice for awhile now. She's always wanted the stock incredible VVM back, but no one's ever been able to find it on other forums. If anyone has the stock VVM for the phone, I think she would like that better.
If not...
Her issue is that whenever someone calls her phone it always has different responses. Some people call and say the number is unavailable, others say it asks for her subscriber number. I've called three times now and i've had those two errors along with one that actually got through. The problem is that she isn't receiving all her calls, which anyone on this forum can attest that this is a MAJOR issue, especially while she hunts for jobs. If ANYONE can figure out a solution to this problem it would be awesome. I've searched the web for weeks trying to find a solution or even an alternate VVM, but I haven't had any luck.
I just need to figure out one of the following:
- how to get back stock Incredible VVM
- how to fix or permanently get rid of google voice
- find an alternative VVM that works decently and can get past this google voice issue.
Any help would be appreciated...
Phone is Verizon Droid Incredible running CM7 version 7.0.3-inc
What are her Google Voice settings set to? Open GV and navigate to: Menu/More/Making Calls? This setting should be set to "Do not use GV to make calls." I've been using it for about a year and across different roms with absolutely no problem, so this is a surprise to me.
To remove Google Voice (no don't do it, stop...aight I'm done):
If you want to remove GV, sign into her Google account from a computer, along the black Google title bar click on "More" then select GV from the list of Google services. Now, click the gear icon below your account name and there is a "deactivate Google Voicemail on this phone" link in blue. Once you deactivate Google Voice, your Verizon voicemail should be working. I haven't personally done this, cuz I actively use GV. I believe your Verizon voicemail is *86 if you want to access it over the phone. If you want, call Verizon to ensure the second phone (the GV account) number is disconnected from the account as well. Last step requires you to call and test her voicemail to make sure they come through.
P.s. Doesn't every rom include Voicemail Settings under Settings/Call? Does changing your settings there fail as well?

thanks that got rid of it. i also found how to set it back to the carrier voicemail like you said. i like google voice, but that problem not being able to receive calls 50% of the time just kills the functionality of a phone almost. i wish i knew the deeper problem of it so i could make it fully functional. thanks though, this fix will work for now.
Not a problem, sucks that you had that issue arise. Glad I could help.

Google Voice App?

Okay I'm on my T-Mobile SGS3 and I got the Google Voice app. I only use this app to make International calls/text messages and I use this app as my voicemail.
Now, I think I have the voicemail portion set up properly. I set it up using google.com/voice and disabled the old phone and 're-enabled' the new phone in settings on the computer browser.
and now when I test to see if it works, i DO hear my voice-mail message and my google voice number also works. so it seems like it works, but when someone leaves a voicemail, i don't get a notification or anything. but my OLD Samsung Vibrant receives the notification instead.
tl;dr / cliffs:
installed google voice app
google number rings on phone
my voicemail 'message' works
when someone leaves a voicemail, i don't receive it. my old phone receives it.
That is odd. Have you tried uninstalling Google Voice on your Vibrant?

Go to Google Voice on your computer and check the phone account?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
I have the very same problem and my old phone recived notifications. The work around, not a fix, is to have google voice text you when you receive a new voicemail. To turn that on go to google voice settings on computer and check the box to send you a text when you receive a voicemail.
On Sprint, I got this to work by disabling voicemail on Google.com/Voice and then re-enabling voicemail on the website. I'm not sure if this is what you've tried or if you simply disabled your old phone and added your new one.
For some stupid reason, the setting doesn't exist on the phone itself, but doing this seemed to push the setting. It even greyed out the forwarding option on the phone. Good luck.
****. i dont think i disabled it from my OLD phone.
when i went to disable, i just hit the ##004# code on my new phone. i thought it would disable it completely. but now i guess i needed to put that code on my old phone?
which i can't do now cause t-mobile deactivated my old (large) sim. and also i reflashed a new stock rom on my old phone.
is that even the issue? the fact that i put the "deactivate" code using my new phone?
I used Google for voice mail but had a lot of problems, I switched Youmail and couldn't be happier, might want to give it a try..

okay, well, i've been workin at this for a couple hours now lol
and i don't know wth i did to fix it, but i fixed it.
tried a bunch of things. like re-installed the app. changed back to the carrier voicemail for a second and changed it back. changed it on google.com/voice again.
one of those things fixed it. everything is back to normal
I can't even get GV to configure my voicemail. I get a com.android.phone has stopped working error. ATT is of course no help. Anyone have other ideas?
I've done the following:
Uninstalled - Re-installed
Forced my GV # into call forwarding
tried the *004*1(GVnumber)#
and a Factory Reset
All with no luck....

I haven't rooted my phone yet so I can't delete apps but I had ATT delete my 'att messages' app to see if that was the issue. It was not.... Back to the drawing board.

It always crashed when changing voicemail providers on my old Skyrocket.
But then the voicemails still worked properly.
Not on the SIII, not yet. I havne't messed with it too much yet though.
T-Mobile user, this is how I got it to work:
Installed app, went through the steps to set it up till I got the com.android.phone error
logged into GV on my PC, removed old phone
reran setup steps, same error
verified GV recognized the new phone in web interface
seems to be working fine after that

Can't get Visual VoiceMail to work ? [solved]

I searched for this and found no answer. Sorry for yet another question thread but the issues just seem to keep adding up with this phone.
I'm having trouble launching the visual voicemail. When I hit "Next" to setup the inbox, it gives me an error box with the following message "Your subscription cannot be completed at this time. Please visit my.t-mobile.com or call 611. "
Google searches suggest that I don't have it on my line - the my.t-mobile shows that both my Note III and my wife's have the feature included. Google also suggested force stopping and clearing data for the app. Did that. No difference.
I'm rooted on stock deodex with lean kernel. My wife is fully stock, no root or anything. Neither of us are able to use this damn voicemail thing.
any ideas?
All solved now...T-Mobile in their infinite wisdom had failed to initialize the voicemail boxes on either phone. So no wonder the regular or visual voicemails weren't working.

do you still have stock messaging app? VMM relies on the stock messaging app (not hangouts) to know when a new message comes in. Or, you can try Google Voice. it is a better experience, in my opinion. Note: I am on TMO, and know that Sprint is the same.
Yeah I still do. It was T-Mobile being so good at what they do they never activated the voicemail boxes on either phone when we activated the lines :silly:
Now it's all working. My wife wanted Google Voicemail but it hadn't worked for her. Probably because of this same issue.
Thanks.
