Apk help - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi im new to the fourms here and i had a question. When i flash a "senseless"rom, or roms w/o htc sense i dont get all the cool htc widgets, but i noticed when i flashed a rom by fresh i would see files called fresh removed apks and i was wondering if i could make those or some how get htc widgets over to another rom or something along those lines. Thanks a lot for any help.

Well if you wanted the removed apks, you should be able to long press them [after going into the folder] and try to install them, or you could move the using root explorer, ect and still install them. They are just apps the developer removed initially, but left them available to the user.

Senseless = no htc sense widgets ever.
If you want htc's widgets you have to use sense.

Senseless means that the ROM does not have the Sense framework, which is needed by the widgets.

[Q] HTC Location application for G2

Ok, this might seem like a noob question...But I rooted the Desire Z and flashed Cyanogen 6.1 because I don't like HTC Sense much...But I really miss the HTC Locations application...Is there anyway I can find this application and if yes how exactly do I install it because I'm guessing it'll take more than just putting it in my sd card and installing it...
As far as I know all the HTC apps depend on the HTC Sense framework, which means they probably won't run on vanilla ROMs.
The guy above me is correct. HTC apps depend on the sense framework.

TouchWiz (Galaxy S UI) and Stock-UI for Stock Z

Hi guys,
since i will get my DesireZ next week, i am already searching for toys to play with on it
One thing i am wondering and i want to try out is:
1) Will i be able to turn off sense completely WITHOUT ROOTING/Flashing any other rom?? I think i read something, that HTC removed the Stock Android launcher, so.....is it possible to reinstall it by any apk??
2) Same question with Samsungs TouchWiz-Launcher - is there any apk i can install on a NON-ROOTET Z (without flashing) to run TouchWiz on it??
May sound stupid perhaps, but i guess i won´t root the phone the first few weeks, but i like to play around with Themes/Launchers/"Eyecandy", so i was wondering if any of the two points (or both) are possible
Thanks 4 Info,
BigD
You can install another launcher 'On Top' of sense, but Sense will not be removed, and will continue to run in the background. A few popular options are Launcher Pro and ADW (free versions) or Launcher Pro Plus and ADW EX (Paid)
The downside to this is that it will likely slow the device even further (before I rooted my Desire Z, I did notice some lag on the device, likely because of the stock Sense ROM)
Not sure about TouchWiz options, but after my experience with Samsung I avoid it like the plague =P
i know about these 3rd party launchers and that Sense will always run in background (sadly)
But is there a possibility to bring up stock Android launcher??? (APK or something?)
And/or is there a APK wit Touchwiz??
Yes there is an Touchwiz apk, just search the desire forum and youll finde one

Ok, i trust you if you post this here, that the APK will also work on my Z next week
And what about Stock Android Launcher??? (only thing i found until now was "Gingerbread launcher" - but is the stock-launcher really not in the stock Z ROM????)
No the stock Launcher isnt in the stock DZ rom. But u can use Gingerbread Launcher as u said b4 or pull the stock launcher apk from cm6 or any vanilla 2.2 rom
PS: Its another Forum, but there is the Touchwiz apk posted i used for testing on my dz http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/133164-galaxy-s-touchwiz-launcher-enjoy.html

[Q] HTC Desire Decent Custom HD Rom? [Q]

HTC Desire Decent Custom HD Rom?
Hello XDA,
I have got a HTC Desire, and I was just wondering what is the best (nearest to stock) HD Rom for the Desire. I have had a look myself, but most are heavily modified, and although I want Apps2SD, I don't want loads of custom things like Titanium Back-Up, and I know that that's a usefull tool, but i'm really not interested in it. At the moment im using Reflex T Sense which is a HD Rom, but its havily modified with addons, can anyone help on my hunt?
Thanks.
Tried them all, and stuck with InsertCoin, because it's the fastest and the most stable for me and only a few extra apps comes with it (spareparts, CDH)
Also, you can just remove the .apks from the .zip file before flashing it, like I did to remove those unnecessary applications.
thanks, no doubt I will try it

[Q] HTC Wildfire 2.3 with sense ROM ?

Hi there..yes im a new guy ¬_¬.
So I want to root my wildfire (i know how to do it). The problem is i like HTC Sense and the new version that came for the 2.3 devices, iv'e been looking around for a bit trying to find a Sense rom on 2.3 and have so far failed.
1) Are there any 2.3 Sense ROMs out there for the wildfire?
2) If not are there any themes that mimic Sense for CyanogenMod 7? (I would prefer if the 'people' and 'message' apps looked like sense to because i dont want to open them and find that it look different to sense.) (Also if ii was to do this i presume that i wouldn't be able to keep the HTC widgets so would there be anyway to add them in?)
3)If the above just isn't available id prefer to stay on the stock 2.2.1 sense rom, how could i overclock with it? (i understand it has something to do with replacing a kernel but i don't know how to do this.)
Thank you in advance.
Yes, you are new and you obviously haven't looked properly. -.-
1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1067868
2) Not possible to get Sense Apps to Non - Sense ROMs like Cyanogenmod
3) Replacing a kernel is the same as installing a ROM. Place kernel Zip on SDCard, Reboot into Clockworkmod Recovery, Select Install Zip from SDCard, select kernel Zip, done.
Well i did look and saw that and was a bit too unfinished for me but thanks anyway.
Looks like i'll probably replace the kernel to overclock and see if anything new will come out or possibly move to CM7.
Don't forget to take a nandroid backup before moving to CM7, so you can easily revert if CM's messaging, contacts, camera app etc dont suit you.

[Q] Is it possible to flash a stock HTC Sense Rom onto tmobile G2? or best Sense ROM?

Situation:I've read through most of the HTC Sense roms on our forums and most of them show at least a few problems with missing/broken features. Currently on Virtuous Sense 2.1 which I love since the only thing that bothers me is: the "www./.com" is now a tab, one widget resets the htc sense UI(removed it though), and a small amount of lag. Currently I'm intent on having the latest HTC Sense Rom on my G2.
Question: Is it possible to just flash the stock HTC Sense roms onto the G2 and have it update on its own after I flash and unroot itself?
Question: If not, anyone have an HTC Sense rom available that is stable, full features working, little to no lag, and the procedure is forgiving(as in my G2 won't brick easily if I incorrectly executed a step)?
Notes: I used this procedure for rooting from XDA wiki: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD). I really liked it because I failed a couple of times and pulled the battery and it still didn't brick however after I flashed, I wiped the sd card(kept backup files though) and replaced it with a higher capacity sd card.
For sense roms on a G2, you need to have the Desire Z hboot. Which from your description, you must already be having. You can go ahead and flash any rom of your choice.

Then after I should unroot and let htc sense update itself?
More than likely you will be better off not going stock if you want to keep root access and leave security flags off. If you do go back to stock you will not be able to run anything more advanced then what you have now, stock is still gingerbread and will never be updated past that unless you use a custom rom. There are many sense roms that are pretty good for the vision, almost all are better than stock in some way, I would suggest trying a few out to find what works best for you

That's just it, I'm tired of going through and flashing roms that are missing features/bugged/slow. Some I like, for instance Gen.Y R3, trickdroid, revolution(all snappy and quick) but they just miss that one feature I need most(eg auto rotate screen or htc locations is broken). Unless someone recommends one that fits the G2 on dzhboot perfectly I'm willing to flash one last time.
Honestly Virtuous Sense 2.1 was probably the best custom rom experience I've had because it had the least problems for my specific needs. It also happened to be the first rom I ever flashed to break my android rooting cherry =P.
Personally, I'm not into a lot of customizing right now, I just want a rom that I am satisfied with and forget about. I'm going back to Virtuous Sense in the meantime while I look for stock HTC sense roms that will update itself so I never have to worry about it again. (anyone know where to find a stock htc sense rom that is going to work on a G2?)
Like I said it won't update it self, htc will never update date this phone again the rom you are using (in my opinion) is better than stock, there are lots of others to try out if you would like, if you want stock that's fine but it will never update past android 2.3.x if you want more features, more stable, better battery life etc... go with a custom rom based off of stock

Thanks, I guess I skimmed over you mentioning the inability to update, alright time to get back on the flashing rom binge, watch me brick
Its real hard to brick your phone just flashing roms, be sure to do a full wipe!
If you need extra help rizzoizzo made a nice tutorial on how to flash roms for beginners, check in the first few pages of general section and be sure to thank him if it helps ya
