Hi,
Have my Desire running Oxygen 2.0 RC6 for now with stock tables and 1gb EXT3 (why is flashing tables so much harder? lol). Running oxygen with my standard apps I have about 115Mb free of internal memory.
I've been playing with a couple of other ROM's however I seem to end up with MUCH less internal mem - usually about 60-70Mb free with the same range of apps.
Have I done something wrong? Is there something I can do to "push" apps on the internal memory to the ext partition?
Cheers in advance
Has been mentioned about a dozen times in the oxygen thread, the dalvik cache isn't moved to the ext partition any more. There should be some flashable zips to get the old script back or you can fix it manual by replacing the a2sd script with a older one.
When did that get changed in Oxygen? Because my RC6 install has no issues with memory usage.
Are the "other" ROMs Desire HD ROMs?

No, just other AOSP GB roms.

hi, i was just wondering if someone can tell me the benefit of cm7 over a2sd please, im S-OFF so no problems changing, but just wanted to know the differences. and also which is better, insertcoin or rcmix??
cheers.
I think I read a possible speed increase with cm7
Different system partition sizes..

ok so what the big deal about the system partition being bigger.. what does that mean in real world case?
In the a2sd apps and dalvik are on sd because there is no much space
In cm7, apps are on SD ,but dalvik cache is on internal.
Dalvik is the virtual machine that runs on android to provide that java environment(behind that is Linux). Also internal memory is faster on read/write even from a class 10 SD card. That way we take advantage of the internals speed , which makes the Rom a lot faster. Also since the ext partition is used only for apps, there is more space available for more apps than a2sd

Cm7 does not officially support a2sd. Even if you have an ext partition on sd card, you also have to run a special script or program(strange issues occur here sometimes). This is why it's recommened to have cm7 hboot when you run cm7 rom, because with cm7 hboot you do not need a2sd because of the big /data partition.
Furthermore, as far as i know the difference between a2sd and a2sd+ is the following:
a2sd: only apps will be moved to sd card
a2sd+: apps and cache will be moved to sd card.

So. if we're in cm7, it would defeat the purpose if we use mcr scripts to move dalvik cache to sd? It's just that I noticed an increase in internal storage space. Is that not a good thing?

that is true indeed, but insertcoin gb cm7 used a2sd while the stock hboot uses a2sd+. I was talking specifically for these roms , not for cm7, but the cm7 hboot gingersense roms
I'm currently on coolexe sense 3.0 Rom. When I first installed it I had around 180mb free of internal memory.
Since then I have installed a few apps but my internal memory has gone down to 125mb.
So it seems like something else other than apps is eating the internal memory. What else could it be and how do a delete it?

Dalvik Cache?
Move to SD. Chcek ROM thread.
Dalvik cache is already on SD.
If the memory keeps going down at this rate, I will need to do a complete wipe every so often.

Any idea?

Why don't you chceck it with some software what takes up the memory? Colud be some app.
I am on LeeDroid ROM v 3.3.3 and even my internal memory decreases a little bit with every app that I install. The dalvik cache is already on the SD card. I started with approx 128mb and am now down to 80mb. I keep cleaning the cache data using Quick app cache cleaner.
Yeah a2sd+ cannot move everything to SD card. app data is still on /data.
If you browse to /data/data you will see all you applications listed and their associated data.
and there is no workaround for this, is there?
No. You can try D2Ext, but A2SD+ will work like this.

for leedroid 3.3.3R5, you can switch to data++ version for more internal memory.
i suggest reading all the FAQ, at least twice
To get more internal memory (/data partition), you have to flash data++ hboot layout first and not until then the data++ version of leedroid. Otherwise, you will lose internal memory because the data++ version swaps some things from /system to /data.
Alternately you can flash Supernova and get 2GB on /data
I am running Runny 3.4[CM7r2][Sense 3.5 Android 2.3.5] in my desire.. when i am falshed this rom its giving mesage like low on internal storage.. what to do..?
Make sure you configured A2SD+ correctly.
Hello people, just wondering if there is any App that a designed part of size of the microSD and simulate that's internal memory, something like that cause the real thing is that I am getting without free space on my internal memory....
I have moved several app to SD card but this is not enough it seems..
any idea?
thanks

You'll have to go with a custom ROM with something like AD2SDX or A2SD.
Go look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315961 . If I might make a recommendation, that would be it. Just make sure your SD is fast.
I'm running the A2SD edition and have got probably around 51 games installed, 30 apps etc and still have about 50MB's free internally. I did move a lot of data using Titanium Backup though.
good luck!
I had the same issue when running the official HTC ROM. Had to decide between uninstalling apps or changing to a custom ROM.
Did the latter, and have not had any regrets since.
I rather like the Sense UI, so one of the primary concerns was finding a ROM with Sense and Apps2SD. Tried the Revolution ROM reinstalled all my apps, and instead of having 15MB available, I had 115MB - no more space issues here..
I think you should have a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
Personally, I'd go for one of the Sense 1.9/2.1 or 2.1/3.0.
I'm seriously considering moving to AN-Droid - not many tweaks, but the old Sense 1.9 along with Apps2SD.
Even i am facing the same issue, low memory was making me crazy, so i finally started to process of installing ROM on my desire
Backup all apps with Titanium.
Backup your SDcard to PC.
Root and/or S-OFF your phone.
Partition your SDCARD so it has 2 ext partition (1Gb and 300 Mb) and remaining FAT32.
Flash MIUI XJ XPART, and you'll have 1024 Mb for your apps and games. And very fast and smooth ROM.
Cheers.

Hi guyz. I am a newbie to this desire community. During last week i tried as many roms as possible. I made a ext 4 partition of about 1GB. When i tried sense based Aurora rom, i noticed 900 mb of internal memory available(guess its counting ext partition as internal memory). When i tried some other roms i noticed 180mb of memory(a2sd). Why is that?
So if i use a2sd and install 40 apps what would be my internel memory? Will it be sufficient? I raised this query because before i try few other roms i should be clear which is the suitable one.
Thanks

I have a 1GB ext4 partition with some 60 apps installed. Usually I have around 4-600MB on ext partition and 70-100MB on internal memory free, depending on the ROM I use. Hope that helps.

The Aurora-ROM used a technology called DATA2SD / DATA2EXT (different names, but they work the same way)
A2SD: All apps you install will be automatically to EXT-partition (internal memory still decreases and is still 150 MB).
A2SD+: Functions plus the moving of dalvik-cache to EXT-partition
DATA2SD / DATA2EXT: The whole internal memory (/data-partition) will be moved to EXT-partition and the size of the EXT-partition is from now on the "new" internal memory.
How much internal memory you have free depends on the apps you install.
Hello everyone, I found this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145133 on Sensation forum about swap through cache or data partition. I checked cache partition on my Desire Z with Sabsa Prime 15 and it is 295 MB with only 4 MB used.
So I was wondering if it was possible to adapt the script to DZ.
With a 256 MB swap in cache partition (if it is possible), may be it could solve some of the Sense 4.X Full lags...
What do you think about it? Could we use this space for swap?
Thank you for your answers.
Well we have a way to make a swap file in /data and move it around to reduce damage, so it could be adapted for /cache. The thing is it's still wrecking the internal flash storage of the actual phone.
I don't think limited RAM is quite a problem for the Vision yet, however, I'm sure we'll be able to make do with 512MB of it once the Andromadus have got JB to an optimum state. Hell, the G1 can run ICS with 109MB of it.
Yes, AOSP/CM based Rom will probably be smooth on DZ once they are optimized, but I am a Sense addict, and One SV is the only hope to get a JB+Sense Rom on Vision.
And even if developers are fantastic, there is no miracle, it is impossible to make a perfectly smooth Rom with all the features with half Ram...
I thought it was possible to avoid wrecking memory due to swap with internal one (thought it was just due to the use of SD memory which was less resistant) and to get a more responsive device.
After your answer I think I'll wait for next release of Sense 4.1 Lite Rom by ajhavery...
Thank you.
I trying to use swap on cache partition some time ago on miui rom. But i got some reboots, on /data does not have it. I don't know why. Now I use zRam, it is more fast, but give only 96Mb. And zRam with many background process is not good idea. On last miui it works fine for me.
Don't worry we will also support your devices in future....

Swap on the cache device. When I ran sense roms I put the swap on /data b/c I thought better internal ram then my sdcard. But /cache might be better? Maybe I will try a sense rom again and try /cache.
