Just got a semi woody
[G2/HTC Vision]
whos gonna be first to mod it for my G2 :
no its not only for tablets, this has already been established.
Over on Androidspin there's a system dump of Honeycomb. It's more of a core dump from what I understand - just the basic stuff so you couldn't use it on a device with full functionality. All of the apps have multiple DPI res folders in them (MDPI, HDPI, Extra Large, NoDPI) so it will work on phones - not just tablets.

Oh well
i guess everyone who thought it was tablet only never remembered what Andy Rubin himself said at all things digital that Honeycomb would be both tablet and phone compatible. this was before the video of honeycomb at ces...but still if Andy Rubin says its for both you better (adjective) believe it
Android 3.0 Honeycomb won’t be coming to Smartphone, just for Tablets, says Google:

It's not in the framework?? Whatever it is, it's in the sytem image somewhere. Someone smarter thatn me should do it.
To the poster that said "Why, we'll have 2.3 roms soon" (paraphrasing):
I would like at least this small porrtion of gingerbread on my totally/completely stable/fast Myn rom now. i doubt that the first, even the 2nd or 3rd phase of community built releases will be perfect. But if given just this one feature, I'd be happy. It's not like you can take advantage of new Android features in 2.3 with the evo anyway: we don't have a gyroscope, we don't have a NFC radio.
That said, of course I'd love a full gingerbread release for the evo, but beggars can't be choosers.

Yes and no. It could be a proprietary Samsung thing. Then it wouldn't be in the SDK, but rather in the Nexus S image. Now, seeing as it's supposedly a Google Experience phone, there shouldn't be proprietary things on it... so that would lead me to believe it is in the framework somewhere.
Regardless of where it is, i want it too, lol

I might be wrong, but If the EVO officially gets Gingerbread or even if its ported over.... I the gyroscope is in the and part of the new OS itself and not hardware. Nope the gyroscope just like NFC is a hardware thing so there is no way for us evo users to get it without some insane hardware modding.

I know Android is better (I am running the CM7 nightly), but I thought it might be nice if we could get some sort of actual ROM for the D. Inc. that was WP7.
Not a dev, but I don't think that is possible. You can get home replacements that replicate it, but you're pretty much stuck with android on your incredible. There was a project to port webOS over to the desire, but that had pretty much hit a dead end the last time that I checked.
I would love to see how wp7 works on our device too. Just read hd2 has dual boot android and wp7 roms running. Port maybe? If nothing, to satisfy curiosities and to have another rom to show off?
P. S. My sig is indicative of how I look at roms...
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
I know a poster from another forum who has a HD2 running android. Would be nice if we could run wp7.
I know. I'm kind of a ROM whore too, but I tend to end up with CM7 nightlies simply because it's the fastest unskinned gingerbread build out there for the Inc.

Even though what you are asking my require "development", it is in fact, not development in itself and therefore it belongs in "q and a". I mean think about it, you even put [q] in your thread title.
It is much easier to get android running on a non-Android native phone because Android's code is open sourced whereas WP7 or webOS is not. Thus making it much more difficult if not impossible to port to our devices.
you know what i find funny?? we all say that our phone and XX OS is so much better than all others (Ios, Android, WP7...) but then we go and try to make our Android look like WP7 with home replacements, or ROMs like MIUI for the IPhone crowd...
I had Anroid eclair running on my HTC Touch Pro so I to am guilty of it, I just think it is funny.

#1 This is in the wrong section, and don't try to play dumb about it, you have a Q in your thread title, stating its a question.
To the above quote, they already have android running on the iPhone - http://linuxoniphone.blogspot.com/2010/04/ive-been-working-on-this-quietly-in.html
i was so harsh because the OP didnt even try a search to read the other 20 threads about putting WP7 on our device
I do believe putting windows on a non windows phone is a violation on some law.. yadda yadda
android is open source thats why its so widley available
The HD2 was MEANT for WP7 but Microsoft didnt release in time and The HD2 is windows native so thats why they could port it
Seems like W7 is a few steps behind Android anyways, so....wouldn't touch it, unless it was just from curiosity.
Since the HD2 carries pretty much the same specs as our phone in terms of processor and it can run Android as well as WP7 then what I am trying to ask is what's the limitation on our phone? Besides our radio being CDMA instead of GSM.
Wait til verizon has the htc trophy (wp7. Soon.) Party with colored blocks. Return for android again.Buy a zune. Be thankful.

If you count Android version as one OS, it should be many more ;].
Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb.
And not Android OSes: Windows Mobile 6.5, Windows Phone 7, Ubuntu, MeeGo. Does Windows 95/98 are counted too? If yes, it makes 10 in total, and 8 usable . Of course if we count like we should Android as one OS, it would make 5 systems. Even then it's damn sky high as majority of smartphones run just one dedicated OS.
Isn't Honeycomb strictly a tablet OS? I tried to use the normal HD2 res on it and 240 display density and got only force closes when trying to boot it on my PC.
I have just got used to Gingerbread and now we could get Homenycomb??? Maaan, this would be awesome I only want the devs to take their time to improve Gingerbread as much as possible.
Why would you want a tablet based os on such a little screen like the hd2. Makes no sense to me. I do believe this is one ill stay away from..

[NEVERMIND] Ignore this thread as the new Nook glowlight still uses Android 2.1. Sigh! Look here: http://www.the-digital-reader.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/BN-NOOK-Comparison-Chart.pdf
So with the new Nook 2013, simply called Nook Glowlight, it seems the hardware specs have not changed other than better eInk resolution and 4GB internal memory. Yet, as it's running Android 2.3 (reconfirmed by a comment yesterday by Michael*), it gives us hope that once we get our hands on it, we'll be able to port it to the older models.
Personally, I think this is absolutely possible, it's just a matter of time.

We'll have to see how easy it will be to root it.
Without a microSD slot one avenue is cut off.
4GB is not bad, allocating only 0.5G for sideload is limiting.

Well, seems guys at Goodereader.com were wrong. As you can see, the new NG is reported to still run on Android 2.1. One thing which makes me question the validity of this piece of information (even on B&N's own website) is that on the same page (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/Compare-NOOKs/379003181/), the CPU for NST is mentioned as to be 600Mhz!!!!! So, this info might be misleading. We have to see, I hope it's 2.3, but unlikely.

Wondering Why !!!
Hi,
I couldn't be more happier with my NST with Glowlight.
running 1.2.1 with both multitouch and norefresh hacks running great.
One thing i miss is offline news apps. like the one BBC has going which luckily runs on Android 2.1
but the bulk of offline news apps and many other great reading centric apps are on Android 2.2 and higher
I have been ever so hoping badly on why an Android 2.3 hasn't been a possibility on our NST & NST with glowlight.
I have seen much more bigger challenges accomplished on our NST's with G included.
marspeople, renate, and many more... are all over the NST landscape hacking away and increasing value of our NST's(with the dictionaries added, eink specific handwriting apps, norefresh app, multitouch cracks, kernel mods to unlock other value ... and the latest to the list is Renate's Reader app)
Inspite of all this talent, a shot for cm7 or an android 2.3 or even 2.2 hasn't been attempted.
I am assuming there is something that just doesn't add up ... to make such an attempt worthwhile.
Can Renate or anybody else list out a detailed description on why a custom ROM 2.2 or 2.3(preferably) is so undeserving of our NST's with Glowlight included.
really like to see that DEAD-END ... if there's one ... a very large part of me hoping badly that there isn't one !!!
and we can really live up to see a cm7 for NST & NST with G one day.
Cheers.
We need a cm compatible device tree, the kernel needs to be modified to boot cm. Would it be better to first attempt to port cm5 since it is based on android 2.1?

Gosh!
The Nook is a bit underpowered and doesn't have a lot of RAM.
It would take a bunch of effort to even increment up a few versions of Android.
Add to that is the fact that the best apps are eInk-aware.
I think it's better to decide which apps you want to use on the Nook and adapt/modify those.
Besides, even the apps that support 2.3 will be expiring soon.

Well, I looked at the statistics here: http://www.appbrain.com/stats/top-android-sdk-versions
I was surprised to see that Gingerbread (2.3) is still running almost 13% of market share.
I just think that this share will continue to drop and apps will start bypassing that version in their development.
What is actually the issue with running a newer version of Android on the Nook?

To be honest...a lot of developers have given up support for 2.1, as the market share is diminishing and it doesn't make sense to put the effort in to maintain compatibility
I would love to use moon+ or Google Books on my NSTG :/
