Anybody know if we could get this to work on the Defy? It requires 2.2 or higher I'm running stock ROM with 2.1.
Thanks-
First think about it. Why does this phone need apps2sd? what is the purpose of such an application?

Well, I don't need it, but some might want that, so I think it's a valid questions, isn't it?
Apps2sd is for those phones like xt720 which have less internal memory. Defy has 2gb for that which can fit hundreds of apps.

quick question about Partitioning my sd card...
does it make my G2 work faster with sense and other ROMS...or what does it really do for my phone?
Hmm I guess what you want to use it for would depend on what answer u get. If you want the old apps2sd method then ya you want to partition. But in general, partitioning it is not gonna change the speed of read write times or anything like thay. So if you don't have a reason to do it I would say no. Also some roms see swap/ext partitions and just assume upon using them which I never liked. So no don't do it unless you have a reason to...just me 2 cents which ain't worth much.

but thanks for your 2 cents, i appriciate it.
Hi everyone, my girlfriend has a Desire on Telus and she keeps getting low space warning. I poked around through Astro but couldn't find anything to delete. She has all apps installed to SD that support it. Is this just product of the environment, small internal memory?
I'm sure there is a way to cure this with a little hackery, and if it were mine it would be no problem but she is weary of that sort of thing.
Any suggestions would be great. Maybe an app for managing space more suited for these phones.
Thanks.

unfortunately that's the problem with the desire.
you'll need to update to a rom that supports apps2sd+ or data2sd which essentially lets the phone use part of your sd card as internal memory
That's the impression I was getting looking at the custom ROMs. Thanks anyway.

Starburst is android 2.2 or the same dev has supernova android 2.3
The choice is your's am using 2.3 and have 2GB internal memory, have lots off app's and still 1.2GB left.
Small internal memory is a known desire problem. Data2sd will solve your girlfriend's storage problems. Imho starburst, supernova and miui (d2ext x-part version) are recommended. You could also change partition layout (hboot), but this is much riskier than flashing one of the named roms.
Thanks for the suggestions guys! If it were mine it would already be done, but it's not. I will talk to her and see if I can convince her.
How sensitive is the Desire to flashing? Are there any major issues I should read up on first? Of course I will do some homework but a heads up would be great.
Thanks again, I'll check back often.

Root using unrevoked3 http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
And flashing RoMs is very safe, has long has you do a nand backup, this just like installing windows.
For 2.3 RoM a new radio is recommended this is risky, but ive had no problem's and ive updated radio 4 time's.
They is load's of topics for first timer's on here just have a good read.

The problem with that not all the file is moved, like app2sd+ 20mb file 15mb to sd 5 still on internal, you'll soon use that 150mb.
Thanks so much guys for the information and suggestions. She is debating the matter so in the meantime I'll have to do some serious studying on flashing this phone. It is much more complicated than flashing the Galaxy S.
She should have took my advice and got a Desire HD after her first Desire was stolen.

rooting sounds really scary but is actually very simple, you just need to post what your current hboot setup is, from powered off press vol down and press power. let us no what your hboot version is. because if its the new 1.06 there is no way to root yet.

Took a quick look at the videos and it seems pretty straightforward. Allot more work than I'm used to but nothing I can't handle. Too bad you can't boot from a clone drive in windows.

Hi guys, been quite a while since I started this thread but finally this past weekend had the time to get started on fixing the wife's Desire.
Got it rooted with unrevoked after much frustration. I finally found a post that recommend uninstalling a few apps to stop getting the failure error and it worked like a charm. Not before I read another post that recommend using linux because of issues with win 64 bit. I happened to have a copy of zorin os on my desk so I now have that to play with when I get home on Friday. :-D
Shot a thanks to all you who helped, wish me luck when I attempt to flash a custom ROM to her phone this weekend.
I think I might get her a new one for Christmas.

Hi, this is my first time putting up a thread and i have a quick question. I apologize if this issue has already been posted up before on this site. I just dont have time to read all the threads, so if you guys can give me some quick suggestions on how to move apps from the phone memory to external SD card on cyanogenmod 10.1. Nightly. On the stock version you can go to setting and manage apps and easily select move to sd card, but on the 10.1 i am not able to see that option. Do i have to re-flash it again, i am not sure how to approach this issue. Again i am sorry if this is a repost.

CyanogenMod 10.1 nightly

I don't think you can move apps to an external card in the s3

Shouldn't hate Samsung. Its Google's code, even more so that you are running an AOSP based ROM. As I stated in your post, Google released an update that prevents third party apps from writing to the external card. =/

Can you show me a cited source or give me information on how exactly you can do this?
I'd be willing to bet you cant. Any phone that uses MTP cannot move apps to the SD Card. Its impossible.
On a side note, if you are willing to use a touchwiz ROM, u are rooted and you have a kernel that has init.d support... Take a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849861
Keep in mind this is mainly intended for 32/64gb cards. This will also sacrifice performance due to lower read/write speed.

Have a note 2 and didnt realize you couldnt move apps to sd until after buying the phone. So now I need to get around that restriction.
My device is rooted and on stock rom.
Can someone please point me to instructions for setting up apps 2 sd, or doing the internal v external sd swap?
Thanks in advance for the help
Foldermount can help you...
I think that's an Android jb issue rather than a fault of the phone.
I use the memory swap now, I used to use directory bind, and it works perfectly

It's a ROM related issue (JB). I'm using Clean Master(App), which allowes to move at least some apps to external SD.
im using a custom rom with the memory swap baked in. But im pretty sure this is the mod/guide that im using
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2036796
it is really good and fools the phone into using your sd card as your internal memory so no need to swap on a per app basis.
enjoy.

Thanks for pointing me to this. Can you verify for me as I cant seem to find it. Can this be used on my stock rom rooted? Or will I need to flash a new rom? Id really like to keep it stock as much as possible. Dont mind if the trash has been removed though.
I know the thread says you need a rom and kernel that supports initD, but I dont know if this does?
Also, the initial thread indicates it needs to be a international version, mine is a US from verizon. Will this still work?
Lastly, im assuming I will need to whipe my phone and start fresh?
Again thanks for all the help with this!
I'm not a hundred percent sure to be honest. But I would expect it to work on a stock rooted phone.
You would need to do a complete wipe and I think it says in the op that you're better off using the mod as soon as you do a fresh install
However, seeing as you are with Verizon I would really advise you to Flash the rom I use, Which is the Jedi rom.
It comes with some trash removed, some nice eye candy, the swap already cooked in and the new kernel is giving standby battery performance of 1% an hour.
But if you do then I suggest you wait for version 18 which is due any day.
Good luck
