Face Recognition? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know this phone is capable to form face detection, is there a way to bring that back if you flashed your phone with a new rom.
I just noticed this feature when trying out the villain rom but now I'm using CM Nightly. Is there a app out there to use that. JW.

I am using Visionary 0.9.0 and facial recognition works in the camera app by default. This is based on 2.2/Froyo and you are probably running 2.3/Gingerbread if you have CM nightlies. I suppose you have to revert your camera apk if you really want face recognition.

[Q] hard to beat ARHD

Rooted my DHD a month or so ago and havent looked back since,,,
Tried a few different roms but for me i feel ARHD is still the best quality ,, everything works well, camera, audio, battery, speed etc etc
I really want to use jellytime (or icecoldsandwich for that matter) but feel its not quite as stable or dependable YET,,, do you think the camera issues along with a few other niggles will ever be sorted ?
Ice cold is pretty much 100% stable. JellyTime does have problems at times but its nothing a battery pull can't fix
Sent from PACman'd Desire HD
hows the camera in ice cold ? the picture quality is great on ARHD
Me too
I'm in the same boat. Happy with ARHD but been looking at others like Trickdroid, Jellytime, Pacman, Cosmic Sandwich etc, they all seem to have niggles like wifi tether or MMS or little camera issues.
If only HTC would release the ICS source for our device so developers could work without their hands tied behind their backs.
I'd love to move to ICS but the "what do I gain?" question doesn't have a good answer really.
Personally I'm using Sabsa Prime and the only non-fully-feature I can pick out with little bugs are the camera, namely hdr and panorama features don't work. Every else about the rom is brilliant in my eyes and still being developed. I use a different camera apk so don't have any real issues at all. Some posts I've seem refer to arrows not showing on keyboard (even though it's an option in the installer) but I use SwiftKey keyboard which is much better and arrows work with that.

I was also on ARHD until about a week ago because, like you, I was looking for a fully functional Rom with no issues. I finally took the leap and flashed Trickdroid, took me a little while to get it set up, but running great now, not found any problems so far and seems to run just as fast if not quicker. Worth a try if you've got the time just make sure you have a backup ready

is the camera on trickdroid as good as arhd ?
I too enjoyed ARHD for a long time and it is a great rom indeed. Only thing better I found is XGS Série's. Somehow it manages to make battery life even greater than ARHD.
I do admit I like sense, tried TrickDroid too and loved it, but battery life takes priority... Still, both ARHD & TrickDroid are both great roms also :good:

Okay well I might give them a go. I have a Nandroid backup(Apps+Data) I made with EXT4 touch Recovery.
Just on that, if I use the restore backup function, will my exact setup be restored? So, ARHD with all my apps and and settings etc? Just like rolling a full system image back on?
I have copied the backup to my computer as well to be safe.
Me too,
still living with ARHD 6.3.3 from Mike with several mods ...
for camera issues to improve performance, I also applying 0% compressing+720p video mod.
And use Camera360_ version 2.5.5 is for stable of capturing pictures, default stock camera for record video.
For the first time I use dhd, I'm using Android revolution, it's great for speed, camera etc.. but sometimes bored with standard visual, then I try CM7 but the camera was not hopefully for me.. No I'm using back android revolution...

I flashed Sabsa Prime 7.0 and am very happy with it. The dev is releasing v8 today I think so even more improvements.

How about battery performance compared with ARHD rom ?

I think the two are comparable. It's a little hard to call, because I had ARHD on for a while and wasn't "playing" with it as much so battery seemed great, but since flashing Sabsa Prime 8.5, with it's Sense 4.1 lite and all the beautiful animations etc I tend to muck around on it a fair bit, even still battery life is great.
It's definitely the best ROM I have tried thus far. (Well for me anyway)

[Q] Multi-Window for AOKP/CM10?

Is anyone aware of an app like Multi-Window Manager, Cornerstone, or one that utilizes Floating Windows that would allow me to run two apps on the screen at the same time on an AOKP rom? I am currently running PAC 22.1
I would like to run Waze and Escort Live together and be able to see both of them on a split screen type of setup. I am not seeing anything in my searching that would allow me to do that unless I flash back to a stock Samsung based rom. Is this correct or am I missing something?
Multi window doesn't work on any ROMs for this phone..haven't read anything about it working on aosp ROMs for any phone.

Multi-window works fine on the I777 version when running SHOstock ROM. I am surprised that there isnt a similar ROM for the T989.
I think its a great feature, hopefully it comes to the AOSP roms eventually.

[Q] is it possible to use GUI's across ROM's? and if so, how?

so i installed Cyanogenmod(hood pope) 10.2 based on android 4.3 to my e4gt, but no matter how many different modems i tried, it wouldn't get 3g, so i installed wild for the night unofficial 10.2, based on 4.2.2, and it got 3g but it wouldn't work the gps, it would take a while to lock on and easily lose my location, so i thought when cm official page got some official nightly downloads for the e4gt not long ago it would be better but no difference for my sph-d710, so i gave up and installed rooted ics and left a nandroid of my CM behind just in case i'd go back to it, so now ics works fine but looks horrific, so is there a way to use my CM gui from my nandroid on ics but leaving the system itself(the engine as one might say) as it is so that the features will still work? i really love the CM GUI and features, but since i've got no official support i want to get the looks at least, is this possible?, if so, how do i do it?
sorry for the trouble and thank you for your time.
What modems were you trying? Only ICS modems will work with CyanogenMod, AOSP/AOKP, MIUI, etc. Seems like you were using JB modems.

AOSP ROMs vs Sense ROMs

I'm currently running the NuSense ROM and loving it. But I'm about to get a tablet and would like everything to look and act similar so I'm thinking about putting an AOSP ROM on my HTC One.
I'd like to know how they stack up against the Sense ROMs in terms of performance, battery life, and camera quality. I assume I'll lose Zoe and the other awesome options such as slow motion. Is there any way to add these camera options back in?

The HTC Sense camera requires Sense framework so you can't get it or the features on AOSP. Performance, battery life, etc are pretty similar. What you could do is run sense on your phone, whatever comes on your tablet and just run. Nova (or a different launcher) on both. They'll look the same, but you'll keep the Sense features on your phone.

Thanks for the input. Yeah I'm definitely running Nova. I'd like to make it as similar as possible though but I can't do without the Sense camera options.

Thats probably your best bet. I love the Sense camera features too. I think the GPE ROMs might have the Sense camera because they still have the framework built in, but I haven't tried any of them. I think I remember scrolling through one and seeing it had the camera, but the gallery wasn't working at that time.

Speaker phone usually doesn't work on AOSP roms either (excluding Google play edition roms)

Speakerphone seems to be a hit & miss for some, but I've never had the issue. Before I flash over to AOSP I used all the main function, speakerphone, GPS lock, cameras. I can't say if that's why I haven't had issues with them working or not just something I did.

Well, maybe I should have been more specific. The speaker does output sound, but people usually can't hear me when I use the speaker phone (Especially in loud areas)
I ran nusense for about 2 months then switched to vanir aosp. My battery and performance are better and the features are awesome. Only thing I miss is the sense camera and tv app but I used it so rarely it wasn't a big deal

If you use the camera enough, losing ZOE wouldn't be worth it IMO.

[Q] Camera Flash bug in Custom ROMs

I have tried several ROMs and they all seem to have an issue with the camera. What happens is when you try to take a picture with the flash on, the phone will crash. At first I thought it was just an issue with the ROM itself until I tested it on others, and the same problem occured (Android 4.4.4 ROMs used with cyanogenmod, paranoid android, liquidsmooth, carbon). Am I doing something wrong? or is this something that was an issue already known?
Were you using the preinstalled aosp camera or Google camera?
Sent from my SGH-T989
I only saw that issue when battery was below 30 percent somewhere. Not above that though.
How old is your ROM? I seem to remember there were some camera issues with CM nightlies earlier this year.
I did and experimenting and found that open camera does not have this problem. It was featured on the xda portal a few days ago so it should be easy to find.
