I am trading my evo for an epic my evo is rooted and I'm trading it to a guy off cragis list and he wants to do it at a spring store can I just load a stock rom on my evo our should I unroot it do you think spring will notice I don't want them to void my warrenty
you will need to unroot it and yes they will notice it
Use Odin and flash the stock di18 Roman back to it. There should be intstructions on how to do it on the xda website

I think he was talking about unrooting the evo which would not be the same build as the epics
You should probably ask your Evo question in the Evo forums, just a thought.
Proper punctuation makes your post more readable - a spell checker wouldn't hurt either. Doing the transaction during springtime wouldn't hurt either...
ymmv
Lmao don't worry about voiding warranty... the minute you trade you will have a stock phone which warranty covers and he will not. You should at least warn him though.
Yeah, sorry I was thinking epic since this was in the epic forum. My bad...

I just traded a guy off craigslist, my epic for his evo a couple of weeks ago. My epic was rooted with custom boot animation and the sprint employees wher very cool about it when they switched the phones over. They asked how I rooted and what rom was the best for the epic. I told them to come to xda and check it out. They shouldn't give you to much if a hassle unless you get some **** employee who acts like money is going to vanish from his pocket like he is part owner of sprint.

I'm planning on upgrading to the Epic Touch 4G when it comes out, but my upgrade isn't due up for a few more months. However, my mom's phone is long overdue for an upgrade, and she's going to get my old Epic. My question is, can I use her upgrade on my line while transferring her line to my old phone?

I have done this many times. Have done it at the sprint store and radio shack. Just tell them you want to upgrade this line but you want to swap phones. I did it when I got the Epic. I did it to upgrade my daughters phone. And when I put my daughter on the account I gave my wife the new phone and my daughter her phone. Right at the counter each time.

This. I just did this when I got my nexus. I wanted to wait for the epic touch. However my mother in law really needed a new phone. Her moment finally died lol. So I just used her upgrade for the nexus and switch the phone right there at sprint. So she got my old epic and I got the nexus s4g.

Well...I heard of some people actually messing up there EVOs and being given the EVO 3D in replacement....
But just last Tuesday I broke mine and I got my OG EVO in the mail last Thursday...I'm jus curious how and why didn't y'all jus ask for the EVO 4G?
Most just do an online claim through asurion so theres no one to talk to. And most see the e3d as an upgrade to og evo therefore not requesting an og but moving on to bigger and better places.

Stores are pulling them from the sales floor. A week ago Sunday had to go to best buy to pick one up for my sister in law and tomorrow am ordering a epic touch from amazon wireless since they are a penny for upgrades and new lines.

They definitely have refurb replacements in stock you're not getting a 3D lol. If they don't they will say the 4G is on back order and either make you wait or give you a loaner or something. You won't get a 3D that easy.

Actually your wrong they are giving them out that easy cuz for
1. They wanted to give me a 3D and all that happen was the infamous charge port.
2. My wife's Epic4G gave out they replaced it with the 3D.
3. Her mom went in and talked to a repair guy about her Epic4G over heating and they gave her a 3D as well.
So yeah they are replacing your smart phone for the 3D if you DONT ASK FOR IT!
Now you've got me wondering if I should trash my 4G just to get a 3D as a replacement.

Bad karma, if you break it on purpose you won't get a shiny new E3D, you will get a crappy refurb ...
I don't believe in karma, but I had to throw that up! LOL
Called in to check, after reading the thread. One of the EVO's on my plan is having issues. The CSR asked if I wanted the EVO4G or the 3D. So I guess it might also have to do with luck of the draw :/ .

Why not replace the screen on the evo and sale the new one or old one and make cash towards a new 3D I sold two evo 3Ds for 200$ each recently.. people don't really want them anymore currently :-(
Is it true that if right now you file a claim for a lost EVO 4G that they are sending EVO 3d's in replacement now?

It depends on what they have in stock. And its called insurance fraud if you mysteriously lose it to get the 3D
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
i know its fraud but i meant to say lost/broken in my original question. sorry for the misunderstanding.
i work in loss prevention and in one of the stops i was making my phone fell and cracked the screen, it was still usable so i just kept using it because i love my EVO. but lately the screens been acting up and its getting harder to type on it and answer phone calls and i read in that team nocturnal thread that asurion was offering evo 3d in replacement so i decided to just go ahead and file my claim for my broken phone (it was about time) and yea sure enough they are replacing the og evo with the 3d....so i got my answer. but thanks for the heads up evo4gnoob
So this may sound dumb but I'm wondering if i have to get the rom and mods off of my phone before i do an insurance claim on it? Or do I just have to make it look stockish? Will they really do an extensive check on it? Thx guys!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Is it a risk your willing to take to have the claim denied and warranty void? Its very possible that they will see that it's not stock. If at all possible, just flash stock EG30 on it via Odin. If your supposed to get it back, do a nandroid first, so you can restore it later.
Will they check the Odin count?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Depends, some will check the count and some might not notice it. Kind of a 50/50 shot on that one.
Most Sprint techs aren't even aware of Odin mode, let alone how to check for root. You should be fine.
shouldn't there be something like the moss act law where they have to prove your mod caused the error. Like my theme did not cause the screen to crack
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Most of them are super unaware haha i turned in my evo 4g and the intern noticed it and told me to flash the stock zip haha. Samething happened again when i turned in my et4g with the same intern haha
Insurance claim, all your points are invalid. You don't have to do anything for insurance and paying the deductible. Only if your trying to get sprint to fix it.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I had to take my phone to best buy and have it sent out after I dropped/cracked it. I did flash it back to stock, but they never said anything to me about the odin count.
Sprints official policy is to exchange rooted devices. If you go to a Sprint service and repair center they should replace your phone. The reasoning behind it is that they don't know who actually rooted the phone. In my expwrienxe if you say your friend or brother did it they will exchange it.
I brought my phone from best buy and I'm thinking about rooting it. My question is if i have to take it there can they cancel my repair contract because its rooted? Want to root to get thering so i can stream the internet to my tablet.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
If you have to send it to repair just flash a ROM which have Stock Recovery and use Triangle Away to reset the counter. Check on Dev Section for more info.

I got told my best buy doesn't care about root... But it's fairly simple and quick to unroot and flash stock rom and recovery, which I would do to be safe anyways.
Sent from Pluto.
I had black tie insurance and best buy doesn't care if the phone is modded (only iphones)
Just Google foxfi, sprint blocks it in the market, but I believe it can be found on their website....no need to root for free tethering
Confirmed. I returned 3 Epics rooted. They never even confirmed the complaints. They just got me another one within 2 days.
Yeah I tried foxfi and it's not supported for s3 yet.

I have a friend who works for Geek Squad. He said their only concern is if the hardware is physically tampered with.

I got my phone about a week ago. I purchased the best buy protection because sprint is getting outrageous for their total protection and with the ded going up to $150 its really not worth it. When I got it the Woman at best buy Mobile told me that it didnt matter if the phone was rooted or not, it would still be covered.
I work at best buy and we do not care if the phone is rooted and tryIng to use the protectIon plan. If your rooted and trying to exchange within 30 days because u messed the phone up, we can say no. That rarely happens though because if u did F up, u probably bricked and phone doesn't turn on lol. Did have a guy delete his modem or chnaged some settIngs In ##data# or something he could not get service no matter what I tried. Couldn't exchange his phone for him lol because he was rooted and my manager saw that.

Again...a misconception of the deductible...
If your phone is lost or stolen...damaged beyond repair, water damage etc it's $150 done through asurion
Minor mishaps as discussed here you walk in they confirm, you come back two days later and pick up replacement phone...no fee
And sprint policy currently covers rooted phones
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
If you bring it in for software issues they might decline sending it out for rapid exchange(depending on the mobile associate's or Geek Squad Agent's knowledge of rooted phones), but if it's hardware damage from accidental they likely won't care. Just remember you'll have to re-root when you get a phone back since they don't give you the same phone.

yeah, i know exactly how the TEP works. take it to a service center and they will fix if they can, replace if they cant as long as no signs of physical damage, lost stolen or water, then like you said, have to go through Assurion. I just dont think its worth it now that they raised both the cost of TEP AND the deductible.
I didnt know, however, that Sprint would also cover rooted devices. I have heard stories of people being turned away for repair on rooted phones.
They don't seem to care about anything. I've sent phones with stock root and also custom roms for repair and they've never said a word. Say what you will about geek squad but the black tie on cell phones is more than worth it. Especially if you have teenagers
