Upgrading to Epic Touch 4G? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm planning on upgrading to the Epic Touch 4G when it comes out, but my upgrade isn't due up for a few more months. However, my mom's phone is long overdue for an upgrade, and she's going to get my old Epic. My question is, can I use her upgrade on my line while transferring her line to my old phone?

I have done this many times. Have done it at the sprint store and radio shack. Just tell them you want to upgrade this line but you want to swap phones. I did it when I got the Epic. I did it to upgrade my daughters phone. And when I put my daughter on the account I gave my wife the new phone and my daughter her phone. Right at the counter each time.

This. I just did this when I got my nexus. I wanted to wait for the epic touch. However my mother in law really needed a new phone. Her moment finally died lol. So I just used her upgrade for the nexus and switch the phone right there at sprint. So she got my old epic and I got the nexus s4g.

Would you buy it again?

Ok guys, here's my "delimma". I have an upgrade available to me. I've been wanting a gs2 since it came out in Europe. I had every intention of getting this within the first week it came out on tmo. BUT, reading about all the issues with lines on the screen, resolution, etc, I'm skeptical. It's basically going to be this phone or I'll cancel my line (I'm on a family line). I havent had a chance to play with one in person yet. So, in the meantime, I'm trying to gather opinions on the phone.
With all that being said, if you had a chance to relive Wednesday or whatever day you bought the gs2, would you buy it again?

Yes i would .Coming from vibrant running cm7 . Love this Damn thing
Definitely. My Iphone 4 got stolen two days ago, and yesterday I picked up this phone. Didn't even consider a 4S. Done with Apple and ready to get back into xda and the root world Tmo's 4G is amazing too.
i try to buy Samsung phones only. Samsung phones are slim and lightweight!
the lighter the phone, the more comfortable holding in hand!

yup! I love the phone. More so then the G2X.
I would for sure. I think it's the best phone on T-Mobile and T-Mobile is the cheapest out of the major wireless providers for me.
I am eligible for an upgrade to my iPhone 3GS from AT&T. Picked up a Galaxy S II and ported my number over to TMO. Almost everything about this phone is better than my old iPhone. Couldn't be happier. Oh, and I'm paying less for my plan, too!
Yep, I can relate to some. I tried the epic 4g touch version on sprint. If I could swap the internals with that it would be more awesome. As it stands though, once root is here and I can tether I'll be stoked. As of right now I'm happy with it. It feels solid and has a professional look and feel to it.

I'm going to give it a try again. The SGS2 was the phone I wanted from the git go. Sounds like the ones with the least amount of problems are the 9/28 boxes.
I'm going to give it one more chance tomorrow after I get off of work and I'll keep it over the weekend. I honestly really want to love the SGS2.

Galaxy Nexus can be flashed to Sprint

This is for those who care. The Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus is safe to flash on Sprint! Don't know good it would work because of the 4G sim card it uses.

Since it's not, and "Megan" from Sprint is obviously either just new, or a complete idiot, I'm gonna stick with my ET4G and be happy, and use my wife's Gnex work phone whenever she's not looking.

Definitely not possible. In order to provision a phone on Sprint you either:
Need to have the ESN/MEID in the Sprint system, and only certain Sprint personnel can do this, or
Illegal activity of which XDA does not approve.
Long and short of it - Sprint reps are never to be trusted on these things. They only know what is in a script -and when they can't find it they say whatever they can to make you happy.
surprised this thread made it even this far

Activation

If I deactivate my rooted epic 4G Touch would I be able to reactivate it without any problems?
GalaXy S ll [blazerV3] @ 1200x720
You mean your service account? If so it shouldn't be a problem, though you may have to visit a Sprint store & call Sprint should you run into issues.
When my Evo went bad I had an old HTC Hero laying around & was able to reactivate it with no problems, but I did have to go into a Sprint store.
You should have no problems. I deactivated/reactivated my E4GT a couple of times online whenever I wanted to use my Evo 3d.

When you did that did you have to pay a activation fee to activate the 3d then again to reactivate the e4gt? I always thought even if you are just swapping service they charge you an activation fee. My brother has a spare iPhone lying around that I wouldn't mind trying for a day. Would I be able to swap the service free of charge?

Sprint has a page that you just swap esn's or go to your main page and click activate an account... Its rather simple and no need to speak to anyone, its all automated whether its your first or one hundredth time and if you have to pay it will tell you
This^
It's says something like "activate phone" next to your device in "my account". Takes minutes, just need the esn #. They would prefer you do it rather than call them up and waste their time, right?

switch to newer et4g

I just bought a new epic touch 4g for my sister using my add a line option for .01 cent. what i was wondering if there was a way for me to switch my line to the newer phone and give my sister the one im currently using without having to go through sprint. thanks with any help.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
You can easily do esn swaps on sprint.com. I assume when you say not sealing with sprint, you mean not calling or visiting in person. Look for the activate new phone option when logged into your account
thanks for your info.the phone arrived today and when i turned it on it automatically activated. is the way u just told me about still an option or do i need to do something diff now that its already activated?

Just call n tell them u wanna switch lines on the phones.took me less then 10 minutes when i switched the lines around from my iphone 4s to galaxy 2....
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
i might, i just prefer doing things myself
You can do the esn swap online. However since both phones are activated you will need a extra Sprint phone to clear off the esn for the system to activate the phones.

Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I did exactly this a couple of weeks ago. You don't have to go to the Sprint store. Just call them and they'll do it over the phone. They have to set something up on their side and then they ask you to do some things on the phones and you're all set. My suggestion is that you call them from a phone that is not one of the two that you're trying to swap because you'll have to do stuff to your phones.
Like I said he can do this himself if he really wants to. I do it all the time and its faster then calling Sprint. He will just need a extra Sprint phone that's not being used to free up the phones he wants to swap. For example when I got the first Evo and added a line and got the Epic here's what I did. Swapped Evo to Palm Pre, then I swapped the Epic to Evo, and finally Palm Pre to Epic.. And the stuff Sprint tells you to program is given to you on the site and in a back up email just in case.

Possible official jellybeans in your E4GT's future?

Disclaimer:this is coming from an employee at a smallish Sprint store, so please know that it's far from confirmed.
So yesterday I was at the Sprint store upgrading to the S3, and I was asking about the S3's JB update. After he told me that it's for sure coming soon(non help on when), and while he was porting my sister's number to my E4GT, he started to tell me that the E4GT would be getting JB, and that Samsung had told their store this information. The lady at the counter next to his had agreed with that he had just told me. I was given no time frame either, just that the device will be getting it.

I was kinda thinking that. The same guy and lady both said that Sprint would not be getting the Note 2, when they've personally announced that they are and even had a hands-on with the Sprint device in new york. I would make a way better Sprint employee that that guy. But I'm only 16, so that's a no for two years for me.

I hope it happens, but Sprint is probably telling them that to make sure the S2's keep selling
When JB arrive to Epic Touch, i think all of us will be in the galaxy 3 or note 2 forum postin LOL
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
It's coming for the E4GT, all the rumors from reliable sources point to it.
Your backup source should be the fact that the phone just started rolling out for Virgin and Boost.
(Meaning they're not going to EOS it anytime soon.)

Seriously, it's a point of competition against Apple. You'll probably see even longer support as they get closer to a standard build for most phones; one of the biggest reasons for delays on our device is the fact that more changes are needed.

This thread lost all credibility in the first paragraph. S2 to s3 really? What's the point it's the same phone. Go return and wait for the new nexus or note 2. No reason to blow a 2 yr upgrade on a same generation phone.

I for one think it is a completely different phone. It has a whole different feel from the S2, it's faster and lighter, bigger screen, that physical home button. My sister had me use her upgrade on the first to buy a new phone anyways so she would get my S2. So I still have my own upgrade to use, which probably will go towards the Note 2. On AT&T. I'll be switching once my contract is up in December.
