I've been playing with CM7, and of course did a nandroid incase I didn't like it. My backup of my apps got screwed and went to nandroid back, and it's hanging on md5 check. Not sure why, but when I reflashed CWM 2.5.0.5 it works fine as intended. Just want to warn people if they are having problems restoring in 2.5.1.2, use unrevoked and go back to 2.5.0.5 and restore that way.
-Todd
Out of curiosity did you use ROM Manager to do the initial nandroid? I've seen similar behavior on mine and have given up using RM, instead rebooting to recovery and doing the nandroid from there, and then using recovery to install the new ROM's from SD (and also for subsequent nandroid back) No issues with 2.5.1.2 using it in that fashion. I have the paid version of RM too.
curiouser and curiouser...what model screen do you guys have...slcd or amoled?

Pete..I'm SLCD. thanks

I did use rom manager. But the thing is, the nandroid was made with 2.5.1.2, which is what is odd......
And I have a AMOLED.
I had the same experience earlier...scared the sh*t out of me. If you are just patient it should eventually make it past the md5 and keep going.

Naa. mine makes it past the MD5 and restores just fine, just boot loops once it does. I just accept the fact that I can't do a backup from RM when downloading and installing a ROM , whereby doing it all within recovery works fine. Just another step - no big deal.
It just doesn't make sense to me. Why should backing up through Rom Manager make a difference? I could see if I was trying to restore from RM (which did work just fine on 2.5.0.5 btw). Since going back to 2.5.0.5 I've done two restores and now it's working just fine. CM7 was actually more stable and snappy than my sense rom, but there's a few apps that just aren't supported yet in GB. Finding alternatives is a easy fix usually, but haven't found anything yet for one of them. All in All, I was quite happy with CM7, just the lack of a widget for my Widget Locker (small calendar widget) and then m:IQ isn't working on GB apparently (if I got something to manually backup call log / sms I'd be fine. I'm sure there's something out there that will do it). 2.5.1.2 just doesn't do what I need it to do, luckily we have choices! I'll just stick to 2.5.0.5 for my rom flashing pleasures =]

I do a nandroid backup... the whole process finishes.. Then I go to restore to it.. And it brings me back to a FRESH install of whatever Rom I backed up. It's done this to me now with Baked Snack and CM6
What recovery are you using? Just curious.

I've never used Clockwork so I'm afraid I can't really give you much insight. I might suggest taking 15 min and installing one of the AmonRA recoverys. I've used them since I had a MT3G and they seem to be pretty flawless. As long as you store your backups on your SD card you shouldnt really be at risk of losing anything. Does Clockwork allow you to make and store multiple backups?
Clockwork works just fine for me. I'm not sure what your problem might be.
i use Amon Ra and i have been having the same issue lately, kinda...when i go to restore a nand backup it gives me an error message saying to push it adb style or sumthing along those lines...very frustrating ...kinda lost too for me...any one have any ideas what the problem is ? using FrEakEfroyo v2 with king#6

Have you, by any chance, renamed your backups? If you have, you CAN'T have any spaces in the name. If you named it the full version of what you're running it would have to be FrEakEfroyo_v2_with_king#6

Your problem most likely is that your battery is too low. Happened to me several times usually if the battery is below 30% or there abouts. Plug your phone in, juice it up and try with at least 50 % battery, should work.
Or, I've heard it can happen if you renamed your backups. I never rename my backups because I've heard it can cause issues like this, so I can't tell you for sure if that's the problem.
I'm guessing battery.
This is really getting frustrating. I did a nandroid backup last night of my Baked Snack install. I then wiped and installed CM6. 5 minutes later I had a problem and restored Baked Snack. And it went right back to a fresh install of Baked Snack. I then flashed AmonRA. Installed CM6. Setup CM6 how I wanted it. Did a nandroid backup in AmonRA. Then wiped and restored it. And I was right back to a fresh install again.

Greets,
The randomness of the recoveries has been bugging me for a while, so I am finally biting the bullet to ask if anyone has any insight ... here we go:
1) The most recent versions of CWR which Koush shows are 2.5.0.5 (which I run) and 2.5.1.1.
http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/
2) unrEVOked's REFLASH pushes v2.5.0.7; a version of CWM which is not accessible from anywhere else or by any other means (not in RomManager and not on Koush's site)
3) RomManager shows, as the most recent 3, 2.5.0.1, 2.5.1.0, and 2.5.1.1. That means that RomManager does not show 2.5.0.5 or 2.5.0.7
4) People have been complaining left and right that 2.5.1.1. doesn't work (although I cannot tell if that is simply people with SLCD's complaining and if it works fine with AMOLED). People are also complaining that nandroid backups do not restore under 2.5.1.1 with a MD5 mismatch.
So my question is, what is the latest version of CWR which can be used on an AMOLED and which can actually be gotten. 2.5.1.1 seems the most likely candidate since it can be flashed directly from Koush's site or from Rom Manager, but I am not sure if 2.5.1.1 is safe due to people complaining about white bars on a black screen (did I repeat that right; it might be backwards) and MD5 mismatches.
Can anyone running 2.5.1.1 on an AMOLED please confirm that 2.5.1.1 actually works and can restore prior nandroid backups?
Thanks!
2.5.1.1 works for my AMOLED, and is available via ROM Manager, under older clockwork recoveries at the bottom and on koush's site (I think my Sig has a link). The black screen with white bars is the SLCD under 2.5.0.5.
As always, mileage may vary.

and the other half???
... and can anyone running v2.5.1.1 on an AMOLED please confirm if they have ever been able to restore a nandroid backup made under a previous version (such as 2.5.0.5)?

I can confirm that nandroid backups made with 2.5.0.5 restore using 2.5.1.1.
However, as always, ymmv.
Good luck my friend

2.5.1.1 lol...i tried it. it did 1 backup for me 1st time I used it. after that it went haywire, would only start a restore and then freeze and immediately restart my phone. so its a hit or miss for.some reason. that was while ago now, just had to reinstall 2.505...backup I made with .1.1 worked on .05 though

Are you saying that anything over 2.5.0.5 will work with the SLCD screens? I'm not sure what you mean here.

This is basically my experience. I have an AMOLED inc from early July. I cannot complete a full backup with 2.5.1.1 - it appears to work, but will not restore and the file size is too small to be complete.
I'm back on 2.5.0.5 and happy. I'll be interested to see if the new one works out
Rom manager says that I'm using clockword mod 2.5.0.5, however, when I boot into recovery it shows that I am using 2.5.1.1. Any idea why Rom manager and my actual recovery are different versions? And I can confirm that 2.5.1.1 still works for me, but Rom manager will not boot into recovery on its own, and I'm thinking that is due to the fact that it shows two different versions

I was getting ready to install my first ROM and wanted to make sure that I had everything ready to go. I searched but wasn't sure on a definitive answer.
I'm on a Droid Incredible, Rooted, Titanium Backup installed, ClockworkMod updated to 3.0.0.5 using ROM Manager. I created a CWM recovery and backed up both data and apps with Ti Backup. I planned on flashing to the Incredibly Re-Engineered ROM using ROM Manager. From what I understand I will flash the stock ROM off and it will install the new ROM. What I'm not sure about is how I get the backed up data/apps reinstalled after the new ROM installed. Also, does the ROM flashing delete all data on internal/SD memory or only the ROM data?
Sorry if this has been answered already. I've read everything I could find on rooting and installing new roms and still not sure on this last step.
Thanks,
It's not a good idea to restore data from your apps once you install a new Rom..... if you have backed them up with titanium just restore apps not the data......

Will pictures, texts, contacts, etc all be flashed? Mainly trying to determine what I need to pull and what can stay on internal/sd card
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Pictures should be fine, as long as the SD card and EMMC don't get formatted. Texts however will all be deleted, as they are located in the system. I use SMS backup + from the market, it backs them up to GMail. Works perfectly.
For contacts, I would export them to the SD card (menu - export), but I always have all of mine sync to Google. That way they always auto restore when I flash ROM's.
But as always, I would definitely back up any important pictures you have anyway.
I have contacts synced to my Google account. I think I have a pretty good handle on how everything will react. Thanks for the help

Also, you really should upgrade to CWM 3.0.0.8, in Rom Manager scroll down to all recoveries, and choose 3.0.0.8. 3.0.0.5 has some wiping issues that can cause a lot of problems. That way when you wipe, it actually wipes
Also, your not flashing the rom off, your flashing the new rom over the old one and that erases it
Sent from my LiquidLight using XDA App
ok. So after I do a data/cache/delvik I'll Flash from CWM and be good to go. Thanks for the 3.0.0.8 tip. got it taken care of as well.
Yep, your golden. Just curious, what rom are you flashing?
Sent from my ADR6300
Flashing a new Rom won't touch your SD card unless u specifically format SD. With cwm 3.x I usually wipe data/cache 2-3 times as there was an issue with it not wiping properly at one point. Supposedly its fixed but I like to err on the side of caution. With titanium I think its generally ok to restore data on the items in green but not any in red. I have yet to have issues doing things that way ymmv.

I have been running this rom for a couple of days now. Its fast quick and very well designed. But I have been experiences a couple of issues. 1 wifi disconnects even when im next to my wireless router. 2 I get alot of droped calls for some reason while im on the phone an app will launch and drop my call. 3 Slingplayer works but when I change channels no picture comes up only the sound. I have used other roms and never had this issues can I get some help anyone.

I have been running this since it came out wiped and flashed it multiple times over the course of messing with my phone and never had any of the above issues.
The first thing I would try is to wipe everything with calk's format all zip and reflash the ROM.
Do you have the link for zip file.

Last two questions, how fo I flash this zip file, and where can I throw you some change, even if it doesnt work I would like to thank you for your help and quick responses, much appreciated.

No need for donations, thanks button is enough. If you want to though, I added a link.
Flash from recovery. I usually wipe cache/dalvik/data/SD EXT (if your sd card is partitioned) and then flash the zip. If you are using Amon Ra, just flash that zip like any other ROM/Kernel, etc. You can flash it with older versions of clockwork as well, but not the current version. If you're running a newer clockwork, and it gives you an error when you try to flash it, just manually wipe cache/dalvik/data/boot/system then try flashing the ROM again.
Also, if you are using Titanium to restore your apps, make sure you don't restore any system data and when you restore your apps, restore app only and not app + data. If your backups are from a Froyo ROM, the safest thing to do is redownload them and make new back ups. I think you can change the name of your Froyo backups folder on the SD card so that you can keep them and use that to restore if you flash any new Froyo ROMs. Most people don't have issues restoring apps btw the two, but if you're having issues, better IMO to be safer. Hope that makes sense.
Just tried to go back to a fresh backup(30 min old) and I get the message "Error restoring /system!" after a while. Happends on all my backups, with latest Rom manager and latest recovery. I saw a thread somewhere about deleting su-backup, file is not found when trying to with adb so I guess I don't have it. Couldn't find anything else about it, what can I do?
I had a similar problem. I solved it by using ext4 recovery instead of cwm.

You can't just restore the backup? or your phone isn't turning on and stuck on a white screen?
It's just the backup that fails, luckily I still had all ROM files on my SDcard so I flashed Ultimate Ace and now thats what I'm using. Root is back as well, however I still very much need all my apps and settings.
Would you please post a guide on ext4 recovery? I've gotten used to CWM, can you have them both at the same time?

To be honest there both pretty much the same as each other. I just use ext4 because ARHD flashed it when I first installed it. You cant run both together.

Same stupid error with 4EXT
There has to be some solution to this? I seriously can't be the only one with failed restores?
Is it every backup that fails? Or just the one. It could just be a bad backup. As for getting apps etc back, there's an app called "app extractor" (search all one word) which can actually pull your apps and data from a nandroid backup. I believe titanium backup can do this also. Hope this helps.

I just restored everything with TB, forgot it existed. But still, now I'm afraid of changing roms since backups doesn't work. And yes it's all backups, even my original rom backup which has worked before, I'm suspecting the issue came along with cwm 5

All I can suggest is to switch to the latest 4ext recovery. Download the 4ext app from the market and install from that.

Word to the wise. Never restore any system data and settings
I never do, that's why I have to set them all over again, as for system apps I don't think I use any of them except market and gmail.

If someone's still interested: solved the problem with /format system. after that i could easily restore my backup w/o error.
