I know you need the newest recovery (3.0) to install CM7 but with can you keep that recovery and install older roms as well? (Specifically 2.2 sense Roms) I know on the MT4G you need to switch between recoveries but on my Espresso I don't need to. Just curious if that's the case on My Vision. Thanks

Yes, CWM 3.0.0.x only for gingerbead 2.3.x and CWM 2.5.1.3 for froyo 2.2.x, so you have to switch back.

So I kind if just went through this last night I flashed gingervillain then I wanted to go back to 2.2.1 so I had both 2.x and 3.x recovery in the koush download folder so I flashed the 2.x recovery from a 2.3 rom then just booted in to recovery and flashed my 2.2 rom. Just change the names by adding gb or.fr

Update thru ROM Manager
I have Rom manager installed but I don't know how to update with it. If I boot into recovery using Rom manager I get the latest clockwork, but if I reboot the phone holding down the volume down then I get the old clockwork.
How do I update to get the same version no matter how I access clockwork.
Cheers

When you use rom manager you are using the fake-flash method.
To update it permanently you need to use unrevoked, or fastboot if you have s-off.

Cyanogen is safe, running it now on my 0004. No idea about clockwork though.

I think you have the wrong version of Recovery, is it orange?? Orange is for gingerbread 2.3 CM7 reco 3.0.0.5 and green is for froyo CM 6.1 reco 2.5.1.4, search for the recovery 2.5.1.4 on XDA for G2 then flash through fastboot.

This is wrong, the new CWM recovery 3.0.0.5 thru Rom Manager now supports both Froyo 2.2 and Gingerbread 2.3 roms, and is orange.

that is the problem, it never goes into recovery mode, not from cwm, reboot screen or manually Vol.up and power, but I can hold Vol. down and power to get into fast boot, that is how I know I still have,

if I do vol. up and power I get a black screen with orange charging light blinking.
thank you to all who tried to help, it was the sdcard, switched back to the card that came with phone and it updated to CM-7 from cwm, but thanks again to all
Hey guys.
When I rooted my phone (around christmas I think), I flashed the clockwork recovery v 2.5.1.4 or something through ROM manager. Doesn't really matter which version it is... I've noticed that there are newer versions of Clockwork now, 3.1.0.1 was just released.
So: Are there any benefits to this newer custom recovery, or should I just not bother with it?
And if I choose to flash it, will i be able to restore my ROMs that are backed up with my previous version of clockwork?
And: how to flash it? Regular flash the .Zip through recovery?
Thanks in advance guys

There are a few new menu options. New script that it runs off so rarely you have to use 2.5.x.x. If you S-On then you have yo flash the recovery through terminal.
Code:
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
Personally I wouldn't restore backups from 2.5.x.x so make another one if you change.

I am s-on, and thanks for your answer. I won't bother flashing it (or whatever it's called when you go through terminal) then..

Why not?

I'm not really comfortable with the whole terminal thing. Everything works as it is, i'll just leave it like that

i'm having a bit of problem.
I rooted my brothers Desire Z yesterday and it now says S OFF and i successfully flashed a working ICS ROM yesterday
but now i want to install a stock rom with root and when i do it always hangs on the HTC logo, i did wipe data and cache partition-
Vision PVT ENG S-OFF
H-BOOT-0.84.2000 (PC1011000)
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.08.04.30_M3
i did flash another radio but i had problem even before i did so. Anyone who knows a working rooted stock ROM or have another other idea?
If i flash the same ICS ROM again the phone works (Desire S ICS PORT Z B7R1.zip). (I realise it says Desire S but i think it said it was for D Z).
Try glite or g2slim for a stock experience

You may find other ROMs that suit you more, try a few out

Thanks, but what i meant with stock is original Gingerbread with Sense (but with root) i possible.
Sure then try one of the sense roms based of gingerbread, if you take the stock rom you will need to install superuser and busybox. Most of the custom roms will be a better choice though
