Hi Guys and Girls ( If there are any )
I am a week old owner of the htc desire hd and im getting a replacement on monday ( From three uk ) due to the dust getting in the screen etc, making it a eyesight for me . . .
How ever I am going to do a restore on my handset ( for obvious reasons ) only to find i forgot to back up my original 3_uk rom.
I have looked Here and can see there is only a Australian version of my ROM.
Is there any one here or on the web who has a uk three RRU or any one would be prepared to do one for me?
Also Whilst i am here when i get my replacement ( on monday ) how do i go about backing up the original rom? Via Clockwork?
Thanks for your Patience in reading this, I'll be great full for any ideas,Comments,Suggestion.
Karl.
Any one?
If no original files how would i go about backing my my new phone when i get it?
As far as I can remember 3 Rom's are not branded, just download the wwe ruu and install that, I did it on a standard desire before returning and had no problems.

I am after a three branded rom yes and thanks for your post, But i am after a three uk version.
If all else fails can someone enlighten me on how to make a nandroid backup of my new phone tomorrow and i will gladly share it so whom ever can host it on the xda files, as there seems to be a lack of carrier roms.
My phone is an unlocked version I got through ebay, however I have a 3 sim and it adds bookmarks to the browser, however I do not have any 3 widgets. I don't know if it makes any specific modifications, but if it does add widgets, be nice to know if they are useful.

I got my DHD from 3UK and only debranded today.. and I'm in the same boat. Never took a backup of the original 3 Rom!
The original 3UK rom has a stupidly long loading screen and some games/apps added.

Ive just got my new handset from three as my other was defective.
I have installed temp root by using visionary, then installed rom manager and done a backup of the three uk rom.
I would like to know how people do exact dumps of roms, free of root etc, and would love to know how to get rid of all the bloatware installed also, how do i do all this via my pc?
I have DHD on 3, had it for just over a week. I rooted it using Visionary+ (app). Used RomManager - went into Clockwork Recovery and took a Backup which is on the SD card.
After that using LeeDroid.
Thanks,
Mate done so now.
Just needed clarification that its worked . . . .
Did you notice when you backed up your rom the output size was in excess of 500mb!!?
Also who do i contact to get this backup hosted so there is a perm backup for every one to use?
Yea, mine is currently 671+ MB, don't know who to contact in regards to uploading, but it would be cool to have this as a download. Maybe contact the moderators?
YAAY! i got 10 posts, I can now discuss in the Development threads,
ok i got it now will upload it tonight !!
I will try and upload to my rs account and create a free to assess download thing.
Will be very handy to have a few orig Three roms floating around.

any one got a stock orange uk htc desire rom?? im returning mine tommorrow and i need it asap!
I am looking for the Orange ROM as well.
Whats the reason for returning it? There is a French-based ROM floating about, not sure if that will do the trick...
Stock Orange ROM has never seen the light of day, it's the risk you take debranding your phone
It's a shame, in a way, that no-one did a dump of the system & data partitions from an Orange-branded phone prior to flashing
Well there are 2 options, wait for the official 2.2 ruu to turn up.
or ask someone prior to rooting orange UK phones to take a dump (you will have to talk them through it.)

I am running stock OrangeUK, I made a dump of the system but I didn't know what to do from there. If anyone can help me through I would only be too happy to give it a go!
Can you also dump boot and data please??
Then, if you know how to use FTP, I can give you access to my server to upload them to if you wish and I can host/get a flashable ROM done for those wishing to re-brand
Yeah, you will have to bare with me sorry, have formatted since I got the system folder. Also yes i know how to upload to ftps, will let you know when i have the files though!
How did you dump the orange Rom?
I was under the impression it wasn't possible and
people were waiting for orange based ruu to be leaked on HTC,web
I wish I looked into this more myself now, if it's possible...>_<oh badger
You can dump the stock partitions (system, boot, data, etc etc) the only thing which is needed then is to unpack these images, and to re-package it into a flashable update.
It's not so much a full RUU then, but more of a Clone
Either way, it will still then give the ability to re-flash a stock-RUU-based ROM for Orange, and/or have a stock Orange-based ROM with Root
Soon as I get the files from saitrix, I'll get on with it, and do 2 versions, 1 rooted, 1 stock.
I did a nandroid on my uk orange just after rooting.
Don't know if its possible to re flash the nandroid then do an unroot. If it is then i can zip it up and ftp it or put it on my ftp server.

Dude, i'm running some crappy ROM on my HTC Desire, did you ever make the flashable RUU? I NEED IT
Bumping up an old thread here!
It looks like I may have a problem with my Desire's motherboard cos I have constant rebooting problems. I'm gonna need to return my phone to stock before I can send it back for repair.
Did anyone ever have any luck getting a stock orange uk rom?
So, just to keep telus update waiters in touch with whats going on with the OTA Froyo 2.2 update.
EDIT : The RUU is also avaiable ! You can continue to mess with your desire..and get back to the factory ROM if any problem:

Before launching it....be sure to have 90mo on the SD card free and 25mo on the phone.

*When the screen displays "Install from sdcard complete" use trackball to select "reboot system now" and wait for the phone to power back up.
I will put links to how to resolve different problems later...
If it's not out tomorrow, I think that's gonna be the push I need to make one of those fancy goldcards and install an RUU version of Froyo. What does the telus one have anyway, EDGE disabled?
EDIT: Thanks for collecting this info; more than I knew before.
The telus update won't offer much as I know. They will put some of their crappy apps that you can't delete...add some feature in apps (music dowloading or ringtones downloading... with some downloadable stuff) and thats it.
Any developers on XDA could do this job within 1 week... Htc desire was out on july or august on Telus... and they struggle to get it done in time.
Gold card is not a bad idea at all. Avoiding warranty kinda hurt me.

I'm on 2.2.1 now. LOL!
no reason in loosing your mind over this
my phone is currently not working because of radio not compatible with froyo issue. And this RUU might possibly be the only i can fix my problem. No one on this forum was able to give me any help.
Every minute is too long of a wait. RUUs should be out the second a phone is out with the original rom and so on. Not when updates come up and the whole world had time to test those updates..and then..you know what..last minute we notice there's an issue. It's ok, it's not like people stuck in a 3 year contract with a nice paper weight as a phone can do anything about it either..

Root and flash a custom ROM is an easy option... anyone can do it... but like I said... many people don't want to loose their one year warranty...
I'll wait to see what's in the update package... if too many ****ty telus's apps ... I will probably jump in the boat. Unbrand the phone with a gold card and get OTA updates directly from HTC seems to be the cleanest solution for me.
Come on Telus...don't disappoint us ...
btw: More then 50% Desire's owner (Canad) are not with telus... we all bought the phone at full price. And get stucked with telus's apps ( and you can't remove them) will defininetly be disappointing.

That could be the reason to why Telus took out the outright price. I'm with Telus and I even bought it outright then gave it off and bought another outright a month later.
And yes Telus are one of the worst for OS updates, the Hero just got the 2.1 update today. And the Milestone has been taking forever.

Yeah my phone made a strange noise last night and i figured it was this update.
Telus is the worst with OS updates. It was a full year before the Black Berry os update came to the Storm. I tried to do some freaking out at the store to get a new phone style stuff when they told me the new update just came out. I told them it had been a year- why would I assume it would ever come out?
Ill wait to see what ****ty Telus apps they install (is that what is taking them so long?) before I decide what I want to do. I could unbrand or switch to a diff rom- but I think I like sense.
I can understand the "RAGE" about telus sucking at updates. But why are you guys so upset. they will release froyo, all the **** in it will be old as dirt. no one will use anything from it to build a custom rom. And if you want something good you will flash a custom one.
Its like telling the future, except im pretty much guaranteed to be right.
The only thing if at all im concerned about is the ril and the radio.
And maybe a telus voice call app cuz they have it on my account, but be ****ed if i know how to get it going right now.
As for telus and installing ****ty apps. they have been good about that lately, i expect to see little to no Telus apps on the rom. The 2.1 rom was devoid of anything telus but the home page.
Good is subjective my friend. If you find froyo old as dirt its ok... but four those who want to keep their warranty...we have no choice. The probability of loosing 600$ is enough to not make changes on our phone...that will result on loosing the warranty.
Your are not the first...and not the last person to tell us to root..unbrand and bla bla bla...

Loosing warranty is relative to the knowledge of the user.
There is a pretty easy way to put the device back to factory software if you take the correct steps.
Thats if you have to. If the device is a brick before you return it then no harm.
ive already unrooted a telus desire, restored the stock rom from a nandroid backup (unrooted the backup) then flashed the radio back to the stock telus radio. after this i used fastboot to flash a stock recovery back on and lastly flashed the .83.0001 Hboot with fastboot, removing the s-off hboot. effectively returning the whole device back to stock. with all the correct software version numbers.

It's good to know that it is possible to return to the stock config. I think a lot of us "waiters" would get off the bench if we knew it was possible to go back to stock if necessary.
Juggalo_X, would you consider writing a step by step process for returning a Desire to the stock config? Since you have already done it...
The thread is not about how to flash a stock ROM.
I will pay to see you restoring a stock rom when The screen is dead or when your phone wont start...

There would be no point in restoring a dead device.
I'm under the impression that you think htc checks the flash on every dead device? this is not so. its cheaper for them to replace the whole main board in a device rather then pay an engineer to remove the board put it on a bed of nails dump the rom via jtag routine and then analyze the binary images.
Also, If we're on the topic of paying me to restore a device with a blank screen send me one ill jtag it for fun and restore the device. How much you willing to pay? i need a Desire Z you know
On a side note, In the past 5 years ive probably sent at the VERY least 15 bricked devices back to HTC, WITH software that would void the warranty on them. and i have ALWAYS got my device returned fixed under warranty every single time.

Pretty difficult to believe that. 15 bricked...
Also just about anyone (cell carrier, manufaturer via phone, etc) will tell you rooting, unlocking and modifying (removing bloatware) will void warranty. I have heard of people sending in devices with those and succeeding but not very often.
15 bricked in 5 Sears. A reason to not listen to you. Not everyone has the time to mess with their phones that much...learn to jtag..etc..

Android 2.2.1? I guess your build number is 1.84xxxx is it? (Check at Setting >> About Phone >> Software Information)
If yes, then you have to downgrade your phone to be lower than 1.72xxxxx first in order to use Visionary+. Mine when I first bought it is already 1.32xxxxx. So I do not need to downgrade and can straight use Visionary+.
how do i do that?

In order to apply OTA you need a corresponding stock recovery that matches your ROM version.

If you haven't flashed a new recovery, only rooted, then:
fastboot oem lock
And apply the OTAs, you'll have two, 1.29.401.7 and 1.29.401.11, the latter fixes the storage issues.
You can then unlock and root again.
right relocked my phone (when i press volume down and start my phone it says ***relocked*** at the top) downloaded the update via the software update checker clicked install...then it reboots and on the HTC welcome page there is some red text (but flashes off too quick before i can read it) and then takes me back to the same screen where it says relocked at the top, but this time it says underneath it ***Security Warning***
anyone shed any light?
today i tried to get my contract phone unlocked from orange with an online shop, ive just had it for going on 2 years & the contracts nearly over BUT the guy emailed me back saying it had been rejected the only thing i can think of is that i recently sent it back for repair & now found this on their site.
"The handset to be unlocked must have been registered to an Orange account in their name for a minimum of three months"
even though my 2 year contract is just about up the replacement phone they sent me out will have a new IMEI number due to them swapping it over so in theory ive not had it 3 months..
So my question is will rooting this phone make it so i can then put in another sim card from another network.? or will it make no difference as i don't want to risk bricking it if its not going to work.?
many thanks for any advice given.

Yes. The hack kit sim unlocks your device. However, not all sim unlock devices work with all Sims. There are certain Sims that are carrier locked.

Great stuff, thanks very much guys for your help im now running the Tesco sim on my orange HD phone..
I did have some problems when trying to do the root via windows 8 & 7
win 8 wouldn't even take the drivers so that was end of that and win 7 it kept on failing when it came to downgrading my phone
So gave the Ubuntu cd boot a go & after working out how to use Ubuntu it worked fine.. :good:
only downer now is im running the old style of HTC again
Android V 2.3.3
Sense 2.1
Baseband 12.56.60.25U
Build 2.50.405.2
is there no upgrade back to sense 3.0 and android 2.3.5 like I was running before.?
thanks again.

You can flash any custom rom or stock ruu that you like now. Windows 8 is not working with HTC drivers...
im guessing when you say "stock ruu" that will take me back to the newer version..?
can I just do a upgrade on the phone or will it block it again..?
if not where do I get the stock upgrade from.?
many thanks again

Once you are S-OFF, flashing a,ruu won't revert back that.
Go to the development section and see a custom ROM you like.
