today i tried to get my contract phone unlocked from orange with an online shop, ive just had it for going on 2 years & the contracts nearly over BUT the guy emailed me back saying it had been rejected the only thing i can think of is that i recently sent it back for repair & now found this on their site.
"The handset to be unlocked must have been registered to an Orange account in their name for a minimum of three months"
even though my 2 year contract is just about up the replacement phone they sent me out will have a new IMEI number due to them swapping it over so in theory ive not had it 3 months..
So my question is will rooting this phone make it so i can then put in another sim card from another network.? or will it make no difference as i don't want to risk bricking it if its not going to work.?
many thanks for any advice given.

Yes. The hack kit sim unlocks your device. However, not all sim unlock devices work with all Sims. There are certain Sims that are carrier locked.

You can flash any custom rom or stock ruu that you like now. Windows 8 is not working with HTC drivers...
im guessing when you say "stock ruu" that will take me back to the newer version..?
can I just do a upgrade on the phone or will it block it again..?
if not where do I get the stock upgrade from.?
many thanks again

Once you are S-OFF, flashing a,ruu won't revert back that.
Go to the development section and see a custom ROM you like.

Hi Guys and Girls ( If there are any )
I am a week old owner of the htc desire hd and im getting a replacement on monday ( From three uk ) due to the dust getting in the screen etc, making it a eyesight for me . . .
How ever I am going to do a restore on my handset ( for obvious reasons ) only to find i forgot to back up my original 3_uk rom.
I have looked Here and can see there is only a Australian version of my ROM.
Is there any one here or on the web who has a uk three RRU or any one would be prepared to do one for me?
Also Whilst i am here when i get my replacement ( on monday ) how do i go about backing up the original rom? Via Clockwork?
Thanks for your Patience in reading this, I'll be great full for any ideas,Comments,Suggestion.
Karl.
Any one?
If no original files how would i go about backing my my new phone when i get it?
As far as I can remember 3 Rom's are not branded, just download the wwe ruu and install that, I did it on a standard desire before returning and had no problems.

I am after a three branded rom yes and thanks for your post, But i am after a three uk version.
If all else fails can someone enlighten me on how to make a nandroid backup of my new phone tomorrow and i will gladly share it so whom ever can host it on the xda files, as there seems to be a lack of carrier roms.
My phone is an unlocked version I got through ebay, however I have a 3 sim and it adds bookmarks to the browser, however I do not have any 3 widgets. I don't know if it makes any specific modifications, but if it does add widgets, be nice to know if they are useful.

I got my DHD from 3UK and only debranded today.. and I'm in the same boat. Never took a backup of the original 3 Rom!
The original 3UK rom has a stupidly long loading screen and some games/apps added.

Ive just got my new handset from three as my other was defective.
I have installed temp root by using visionary, then installed rom manager and done a backup of the three uk rom.
I would like to know how people do exact dumps of roms, free of root etc, and would love to know how to get rid of all the bloatware installed also, how do i do all this via my pc?
I have DHD on 3, had it for just over a week. I rooted it using Visionary+ (app). Used RomManager - went into Clockwork Recovery and took a Backup which is on the SD card.
After that using LeeDroid.
Thanks,
Mate done so now.
Just needed clarification that its worked . . . .
Did you notice when you backed up your rom the output size was in excess of 500mb!!?
Also who do i contact to get this backup hosted so there is a perm backup for every one to use?
Yea, mine is currently 671+ MB, don't know who to contact in regards to uploading, but it would be cool to have this as a download. Maybe contact the moderators?
YAAY! i got 10 posts, I can now discuss in the Development threads,
ok i got it now will upload it tonight !!
I will try and upload to my rs account and create a free to assess download thing.
Will be very handy to have a few orig Three roms floating around.

depends on what he's wanting to do..if he's rooted trying to go stock or keep froyo with root, also, if he's stock GB and wants to go back to froyo, won't happen, hBoot versions different and will pop up with a message saying the update is too new or something like that.
so a little info on his part will help us out by helping him out!

Anyhows was really looking into on just delparting it(networkingskills) starting to take over my thoughts. Hell with it, delpart it n ,get dos boot disk made from win2000 to recreate Rom from cmd prompts?
Is there such a wipe? Mean just wipe all clean without it going back to recovery to reboot from?

My 2¢
if you have another sprint phone.....
Call sprint, swap esn to other phone.
Sell yours on craigslist.
Buy another one on craigslist that's rooted (call and swap esn to phone to make sure it works)
Go home, install whatever you want.

dont have a nanoid backup for old roms i do
coming from other android phones that i always was able to flash new roms,i find that reading the threads it seems a lot more complicated ,one thread saying do it this way ,another saying that way ,i dont know where to start,i would dearly like to flash a custom rom because i dont think T MOBILE will ever update[they could not even get the color phone i wanted, they said yes white ,they sent me grey].
is there a step by step instruction someone could point me to,i would be ever so greatfull
Coming from motorola droid 1 and gs2 this is definitely more work. I'm waiting a couple of days before I put cwm, make backup, root, and try roms.

Did you buy the global version and drop a tmo sim into it? I'm with tmo and only the S is available. I've been reading and hoping tmo makes this their next flagship device with the vanilla rom. I want this phone but dont want to pay the 300-400 for it.

This is the method I followed step by step. Coming from htc Hero the rooting method for the One X seemed complicated for me too but after a few attempts I managed to get it rooted and flashed successfully.
Just don't forget to flash the Boot.img first before flashing the rom. I forgot and it took me a while to figure out why my apps wouldn't run. Hope this helps.
well i took the plunge ,everything went perfectly ,now i have unlocked bootloader and cwm and a rom cheers
I have read that its impossible to root the AT&T version, but is it possible to do so with the international one?
Because my friend is having a problem that when he is trying to get the token from the phone, nothing happens. Is this a fault on his side, or is this part of the 4.04 breakage?
http://onexroot.com/one-x-root/root-any-htc-one-x-windowsmaclinuxattinternationalone-click-method/
That should work for the ATT One X
Rooting can be easily done, just install a custom ROM.
There are many 'stock based ROMs' so you don't even know your on a custom rom.
I've never tried to root a completely stock OS with locked BL on my HOX, so no idea about that.
If you want root, you'll want CWM, if you want that - then you'll want tweaks/performance boost - so, it all eventually leads you to a custom ROM anyway.

my apologies, i meant the bootloader unlocking through htcdev
My friend has the stock international HOX , on 4.04 . When he tries to get the token for htcdev, nothing happens. This kind of surprised me, and i don't know what to suggest
HTCDev has been a bit flaky recently; it definitely does work for the international One X (unless they upgraded hboot in the 2.17 update and somehow broke it, but I haven't seen anyone else mention that). I would say just keep trying, unless they're getting a specific error returned in which case that might give a clue.

2.19? I'm still stuck on 1.29. F$&k HTC! I'm selling my phone and never buying from HTC or any Taiwanese company ever again, or even speaking to a Taiwanese person, I'm gonna get a black marker and erase it from my atlas. How can they do this to me? I'm just gonna commit suicide now, and in my note I'm gonna blame HTC, see how they like that!

Hello devs.. I have an HTC one Verizon and I just switched to straight talk. well while I am at it, I want to unlock completely and install a custom ROM get rid of verizons crap.. I am out of practice really. I used to have all the HTC incredibles, the tilt 2. It was so easy for me to follow how to unlock and cwm and root those phones.
I just cannot grasp how to do all that with this phone. I would like to know or be pointed to the right direction or maybe get some personal walkthroughs to get s-off, unlocked bootloader, obtain root.
everywhere I have been looking, I just don't understand. I have already ported my sim and number from straight talk and did a factory reset. I obviously have the most current updates. I really would like some help otherwise im afraid im going to brick my phone or be forced to keep the Verizon factory.
Android is 5.0.2
Sense is 6.0
6.55 is SDK API level
please help.. I will be avail all day tomorrow to get this all done.
Thank you

Do a google search for "sunshine HTC One m7 Verizon". That is the ONLY way to s-off the phone if you have the newest software already. After that, you can use fastboot to install recovery just like you would have in the old days of your old devices. Look up santod's roms. He has a recovery build you can use with a download link. I also recommend his roms themselves as well. He is very responsive if you follow his instructions and puts out high quality work. Good luck.

Yeah, I was just answering his question about how to unlock and rom. I don't know anything about using it on straight talk. I'd imagine it might work ok, but he's probably not going to have all the bands for full GSM support. Regardless, I think a mod should probably move this out of development section.

well I still have Verizon active... I can just swap sim cards for now then do all the programming then swap back? straight uses same towers and bands as Verizon... same sims just different numbers. I don't see why there would be that big of an issue? and sorry if I posted in the wrong forum category
