Probably a noob question - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Get too many results while searching. Do i have to be rooted to change the lockscreen? I have stated repeatedly that ive never modded my phone, but i might try this if i can. I like the vanilla lock screen.
Sent from The Chaotic Void.

Search launcher pro. It's in the android market. I think that will change your screen.it will also change your dock though

I have launcherpro. Im talking about the Lock screen that comes up when i press the power/unlock button. I want to know if its possible to change without rooting or installing a 3rd party app.
Sent from The Chaotic Void.

As far as I know, not really, you either need an app, or at least CWM to flash the zip to change it, as it requires a change to a file in the system directory.

download Widget Locker from the market.

Labor day drunkness made me mess up my Evo

I rooted the other day and am running CM6 on my Evo. I don't much like ADW launcher, so I installed Launcher Pro. Every time I reboot my phone it defaults back to ADW. So today, I decided to buy Root Explorer and delete the APK for ADW in my system/apps folder, along with a couple other apps that I don't use. Without doing much research (drinking), I proceeded to delete some APKs. My phone will now not boot. It is stuck on the boot animation (which is beautiful).
Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can fix this issue? I promise to never delete anything again, and stop drinking.
Thanks!

Yeah hold the volume down +power button while the phone is off till you get to the white screen and select recovery.
reflash from there.

well what you should have done is:
1. don't delete something if you don't know what it is
2. simply go to menu>settings>apps>manage apps>adw launcher and hit clear defaults
now to fix it... boot into recover wipe everything and re-flash
HAHA yes thank you. I forgot about my nandroid. Extended memory loss is one of the greatest side effects.
So do you know the proper way to remove apps using root explorer? Or will CM6 trip out if I touch any of its preloaded apps? Thanks for the help

I understand this. I did read to delete the apk in the system/apps folder on multiple articles. It's a completely legit way to remove apps according to many people.
And of course I tried to clear ADW's defaults, if that worked I wouldn't be trying to delete it. It starts whenever it wants to despite me telling it not to.

Black status Bar??

Does anybody know how to change the status bar from plain white to black?? And I'm looking to do this without adding a launcher..Any help?
I asked the same question in Enom's themed rom thread. You have to change certain system settings if i'm not mistaken. His manup themed rom that runs off the sd card has a black notification bar. It would be amazing if we can change it via a script or something.
i used 2 change the status bar on my g1 2 black whenever the roms had the normal white one. you have to edit the 'framework' (i think thats what it was called) files in a zipped rom file. that was the way i would change them at least.
i havent tried on my g2 even tho i do have temp root. just really havent bothered really and i think it would return 2 the white one after reboot even if the rooting takes place at reboot. dont take my word for this cuz i havent tried but... i dunno... the white one hasnt bothered me much yet. lol.
There are many threads on this. Two main ways use enomthrs manup rom or use metamorph. Both ways have instructional threads in the G2 forums... just search

Lookup busybox installer, it's by the same dev as metamorph. That should fix your problem with starting it up. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the morphs to apply though. At the end of every theme install, it syas "reboot required". I know I obviously can't do that because it would be erased, but I tried a "hot" reboot and it didn't work either. I think it's because everything needs to be de-odexed. If that's the case then no themes.
**facepalm**
Click yes. It does a hot reboot not a full reboot.

Well I clicked yes and nothing happened. Actually, the same popup asking if I want to do the reboot again, each time I click yes it pops up again. I tried my script I use for a hot reboot as well as a market app and neither time did the morph apply. Unless I'm missing something then I don't think it works.
It works.... just not great. Try a complete reboot, run visionary, then metamorph, then hot reboot, then all your scripts, then hot reboot (if your scripts require). That's how my setup works everytime from a full shutdown.
I've been using various nexus one metamorphs lately, cool stuff. FYI, the LG Optimus launcher works flawlessly on this phone, that too was also ported and is in the nexus one theme section

i believe the alarm part does not work cause it depends on the clock from gs3
you should try the modded apk then cause not having any of those issues with that apk.
but u have to force install that apk file by coping it to system and changing permissions
that is to hard for some people
Es file explorer, super manager are easy to use not hard at all
if you want to post the file link to the other apk and detailed instructions i will add it to op
is the link in the OP the modded apk?
no

Hahaha couldn't help but laugh. Playya is right OPs are not responsible for what happens to your phone.
Should I revert back to the old build.prop before flashing a different rom?
Edit: So I did some reading and figured it out. Sometimes it's better to look for the answer on ur own. Ignorance is not bliss!

Not able to disable the Google search bar

Hi,
I am on stock ROM with JB 4.1 and wanted to disable the Google search bar present in all the screens. I did a search and found that disabling it from "All Apps" removes it from the homescreen and so I tried that. What it does is removes the Google search bar, but the space occupied by it is still present with a rectangular patch and I cant place any widgets in that space. Can someone please tell me how to permanently remove the search bar.
P.S - My phone is not rooted!!!! Its new and I want to enjoy stock till I can...
Just root the phone and don't install a custom rom, thus you will still be stock except for the SU app. Then you can remove the search bar all together and gain that space back. This way you can enjoy the STOCK rom too. Although if you remove the search you technically aren't stock anymore.

Install nova or apex launcher, you can enable/disable the search bar or just have it only on one screen and not all.

[Q] Keep browser address bar always visible

Hi,
Is there an option for the stock ICS browser to keep the address (URL) bar always visible, instead of auto-hiding after ~2 seconds?
I would use Chrome, but it keeps freezing and rebooting my phone randomly.
Thanks,

I have tried to edit Browser.apk to make it according to your needs.
Download the apk, and place it in your internal storage. The get a file manager and go to /system/app and delete Browser.apk and Browser.odex (if present) and copy my Brower.apk to /system/app and set permissions like this:-
XX-
X--
X--
Reboot and tell me if it is working.
Edit:- I forgot to tell you that you will need root access too. If you have not rooted your phone yet, you can check this guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2154348
Thank you so much for your effort, but I don't want to void the warranty on my phone just yet.

Rooting does not.void your warranty. Unlocking the bootloader may void it

Bull****. Rooting void your warranty, too, but it's really easy to remove it without flashing so you can back to unrooted device easily

Do not act like a stupid and do not use offensive words here.
Rooting doesn't void warranty. Go to SONY official forum and see what they say about it.
So do not post misleading information. If you do not have proper idea about something, then do not talk about it.
