Not able to disable the Google search bar - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi,
I am on stock ROM with JB 4.1 and wanted to disable the Google search bar present in all the screens. I did a search and found that disabling it from "All Apps" removes it from the homescreen and so I tried that. What it does is removes the Google search bar, but the space occupied by it is still present with a rectangular patch and I cant place any widgets in that space. Can someone please tell me how to permanently remove the search bar.
P.S - My phone is not rooted!!!! Its new and I want to enjoy stock till I can...

Just root the phone and don't install a custom rom, thus you will still be stock except for the SU app. Then you can remove the search bar all together and gain that space back. This way you can enjoy the STOCK rom too. Although if you remove the search you technically aren't stock anymore.

Install nova or apex launcher, you can enable/disable the search bar or just have it only on one screen and not all.

[Q] Is it safe to update?

Hi guys, very quick question...
I've used the chainfire method to root my phone.. everything is left standard and it hasn't got the custom recovery installed.
This morning my notification bar came downloaded a new software update.
Is it safe to install? If I do, will I lose root / be able to re-install it?
I was well impressed that I could root it without adding to the triangle count, but I do wish I could add other features like more icons in the quick access settings in the notifications bar... Can I install that now, or do I need a custom rom?
Cheers.

Hi Andy. Well its ALWAYS recommended to make a nandroid backup before you flash a new rom and in your case before you apply a download to your system. Im unsure what the update is (prob something minor) as the N2 has jelly bean and 4.2 wont be out for a while but it could potentially unroot your phone.
Who cares if it does. Just root it again.
As for settings in notification bar you will need a custom rom. Theres no shortage to choose from, Have fun

[A] Mods without hacking APKs or custom rom (multiwindow any app)

Install and run Exploit apk to get root:
Install XposedInstaller-ICS_JB-rc2.apk, follow instructions on post.
Install XposedMultiWindow.apk.
Open the Xposed Installer app (installed in step 2). Click 'Modules', then check 'xMulti Window Mod', and reboot. (activates the run-time patch allowing all apps to be multiwindow compatible).
BTW, there are more cool Xposed modules (like call recording, per-app dpi, and no 100% battery notification) you can download here. Xposedframework eliminates the need for stock rom chefs imho.
Amazing

So if I installed the new stock deodexed rooted Rom from teshxx (which has the new Tmo multi window update) I can still use the above method to add multiple apps to multiwindow?

How do I know if the multi-window works? I followed all these steps, but what I got is exactly the same as before. Where is the multi-window and how to call it out? Tried long press the return button but nothing happened. Or it does not work for T-mobile device?
I have completed the installation and have to admit that this made my night. Huge props to the person who developed this. Installing on my partners note 2 as well. Looking forward to seeing what else xposed comesbup with

Did you do the T-mobile update from yesterday? If so toggle multi window on in Settings--->Display. If you've done that then hold down your back button for a couple seconds the multi window should pop up at the left. You can hold back to hide it again.

Updated the subject. As the post above states, you need to be running the newest update.
This situation is an excellent example of why the xposed framework is such a great way to mod.
Had this been a standard flash patch, you would likely have force closes, or worse a soft brick.
With xposed, those problems are a thing of the past. If it can't hook the mod in, nothing happens (just as you are seeing). Hopefully in a future release there will be some indicator if a mod cant be hooked in.
Nevermind... got it working. F'n awesome, thank you!
Thank you for posting this mod. This made my day - I like keeping my phones with stock rom for as long as I can for stability sakes, and this mod is just what I needed.
Are there any draw backs to this mod? I was reading the original Exploit apk post and some are talking about a green camera screen.

If you just root through the app you'll be fine. The green camera screen happens when you check the boxes to actually disable the exploit.

Can someone please answer this? I don't want to get this mod and have every single app of mine show up on the multi window list, I just want a certain selection of apps
edit: nevermind, I installed it and you get to choose the apps to add to the list if anyone is wondering. They don't all just show up on the bar, you get a list of yours app and you edit the bar to choose what you want to add
Maybe you misunderstood him? All apps will only show when you click on edit. From that edit screen, you can then drag specific apps over to the multiview bar. After you're done editing, only apps you dragged over will show on the bar.
So two different things here: edit screen and the bar itself.
Hello everyone.
One question on this root process, can we install and use overclock applications such as SetCPU and TunerPro?
And if we had to, can the process be reversed and go back to stock unroot Note II?
Thank you.

1. Yes, once you're rooted, you can use apps that request root like SetCPU, Titanium Backup, AdAway, etc.
2. Yes, if you're on stock rom and recovery, you just go to SuperSu > Settings > Full Unroot.
Wow thanks that's the fastest root i have done. ALSO easy to be on Stock rom and have multi Window with every single app. Much thanks

Remember to uncheck the disable exploit boxes before unrooting, or you won't be able to re-root using the exploit.

Soft Buttons on Fire?

Hi All
I'm currently running OS 4.6.3 on Unlocked GSM model, I've tried last update of CM11 and is very fast and stable but I was missing original Amazon camera quality and reverted back to Fire OS. With Google services and Play Store everything matches my needs but I miss bottom navigate bar from CM11, i've checked most of apks from store to find best possible solution for on screen buttons, but I need separate standard android nav bar like CM11 has, not just on screen keys which cover my screen, also don't like hiding option, just fixed navi bar with keys (Back Home Recent)
Any mod with soft keys that I can flash via safestrap?
One thing more, before I did CM11 on, My Fire was 4.6.6 updated straight away after my initial set up when I bought this phone, after CM11 I've flashed 4.6.3 bin from forum and I cannot see a new update to 4.6.6, it's says no update found?
Any mod with soft keys that I can flash via safestrap?
Most people used Ultimate Dynamic Navbar in the past, some combined it with 'AiO gestures'... although you don't necessarily need those gestures under Fire OS.
Thanks, but have you tried it? Only Recent button works, Back and Home doesn't. Maybe because I didn't root yet after stock flashed.

Still gonna answer this one: yes, I did use it back in the days when I was playing around with the stock OS. Root is required, since it is mentioned in the OP of the app thread...
XPOSED(safe) or build.prop mod(dangerous) to hide softkeys on your device. All devices with android 4.0+ are supported!

How to remove status bar clock WITHOUT xposed?

I tried xposed and fell the phone choppier so dont want to deal with it. Im rooted and twrp. Any zip or buildpro to disable it. I search and couldnt find anything other than people recomending gravitybox or similar modules to remove it. I actually did partially remove it with Nova launcher,. Which has a setting if u are rooted it does remove the clock but only in home screen. Thanx
Get a ROM that has this functionality built in ...
Don't know what went wrong in your case, but simply flashing Xposed without modules doesn't change anything and Xposed alone can't cause issues.

Grab systemUI.apk , decompile it and make changes to statusbar.xml and similar, recompile it and push back.
This is the way around xposed.
Alrighty thanx. I gave xposed another tried after clean install and is good now. The first time everything got choppy was with installing android nify. Everything was choppy even after uninstalling it. I didnt this time and all goood

Question How to completely remove stock launcher

As the titles says, I want to completely remove the stock launcher (like it never existed) and install some other launcher (as if this was the only and stock launcher).
Bascially, This thread explains the problem in details.
I am on custom rom and rooted so I want to know how to make any launcher (lets say Lawn chair 2) stock/native from scratch and completely remove the stock one.

That is actually very hard, I personally like the pixel launcher on my custom roms and sometimes it doesn't work right. I always recommend switching first to see if the launcher works fully. Than since your rooted use magisk system debloater module off the manager. If you're on Android 11 than I don't know normally it doesn't read the partition layouts properly and doesn't work but you can try it. They need to update it for Android 11 but with the super partitions it makes it very difficult.

Yeah you could get rid of it via Root. There is a good app on the Play Store called something like System App Remover/Uninstaller? You could also try Magisk Modules!

That app doesn't work right anymore at least not on Samsung one ui. I don't know on Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi. But everything with the system partition is different now. It basically doesn't matter if you're rooted you can't touch otherwise it bootloops. I would recommend making a twrp backup first than try whatever you like.
what about using adb? have you try using adb to uninstall it?
I someone managed to uninstall the stock launcher and install lawn chair 2 as native but in the process, i lost home navigation gestures, 2 button and 3 button navigation options.
Had to reinstall the rom all over again

Yikes. Yeah yesterday I was almost going to say, be careful when uninstalling system apps. Its worth mentioning that the latest MIUI doesn't support Gestures on Third-Party Launchers, but you probably already know that.
Instead of clean-flashing, It may have been possible to dirty-flash the same ROM (with same version), to get Stock Launcher back without losing /data

I did dirty flash first. Neither the launcher came back nor the gestures. Then google kept crashing since I didn't flash gapps knowing it is dirty flash so i don't need to flash gapps. All gapps started crashing and didn't work. So I flashed gapps but they still kept crashing so I said "fk it, i'll clean everything".
You have to systemize the app (you need root to do this). I wouldn't recommend deleting the stock launcher just incase your new launcher breaks
Try oneplus launcher magisk module.

Wait, does it work on MIUI? Does it include "Recents"?
No luck with MIUI, gestures wont work.
It includes recents. Lots of settings.
