Search up Ti-86 on the Market.

but too bad professors don't allow cell phones as calculators on tests lol

Ya, it really irritate me that a real TI84 costs over a hundred dollars!!!!!!!! I just had to buy one for my daughters high school math class. I could of used that money for better gagets for dad. There are perfectly good Graphing Calculators on all the app stores.

Thanks! Appreciate it.

Google Wallet

What can we do to get GW accepted in more places? Or places that take paypass to get the darn machines working??? :banghead::banghead::banghead:
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Use it. That's about it. To be honest though, there really isn't a big demand for the technology at the moment. Few people have devices that can use the technology, and fewer still actually bother with it even if they have a capable device. The physical wallet isn't going anywhere anytime soon because it contains many things that your phone probably won't be privy to for a long time. Why bother with Google Wallet when you can just as easily pull out the credit card that your google wallet uses anyway, and not have to worry about whether or not the place you're at has NFC support?
I would LOVE for Google Wallet to catch on (and get a few more features <.<; ) and I think it will-- in a few years. For now, however, Google Wallet hasn't really proven itself to businesses and the average user as anything more than a gimmick.
I won't even bother using it until I can link it to my debit card.
More and more places accept paypass all the time. Google wallet isn't the only thing that uses it btw. I've never had an issue with a paypass machine myself.
I FINALLY found a place in my town where it works. It was a McDonalds, heh. Too bad I almost never go to McDonalds....

The feature I like the best is that it's not linked to my atm/debit card or my personal credit cards. That its only linked to the Google card and I have to put money into it makes me feel very safe and secure. I would have never activated Google wallet if it linked to my personal banking and credit info. This is by far the safest rout.
Sent using a cell phone....
Linking it to debit would help acceptance a lot I think. And perhaps digital ids but that may be a ways off unless governments step in and push that. But as is, it is probably too easy to hack, fake or manipulate digital ids. But it would be sooooo freaking awesome to get other cards working with this tech. Car insurance, health insurance, club, grocery store cards/ids. A true digital wallet would be awesome. Would have to get a leather case for my nexus then.
let it be.

Like another person said the acceptance of Google wallet isn't the issue it is updating them because I think MasterCard only card that some have built-in got lectured at wall greens that they won't turn it on but what's point in having it displayed anyway next iPhone 5 is supposedly going to have it so demand should increase and public awareness of it should increase I swear one place kept hitting cancel on me on purpose because they thought I was scamming them.

Was able to link my food stamps to it. Been on a spending Bender ever since.
Went straight to the strip club where, surprisingly, they have pay pass. Then off to cigarette depot for some smokes. Bought me a carton, no more loosies for me. After that, got some lotto tickets @ 7-11. Then off to white castle.
I even got enough left on my "IL Link" card that I can sell the rest of the funds to one of my baby mommas for fifty cent on the dolla.

Basically companies have to pay for the machines that they use to accept credit cards etc. The only way for this to get HUGE and FAST is for Google to become contracted with certain businesses to provide them with these PayPass scanners, even if they have to produce their own Google Branded versions. This way they have control and can distribute them. Otherwise ATM we are stuck with places that have the PayPass machines. Most companies go cheap and get those ugly looking grey plastic card machines that aren't very advanced, just for the fact they are cheap. Google will have to make the move though, businesses will not pay the dough to switch to these machines.

I use mine all the time...
McD's, 7-11, CVS and even Whole Foods. There's an app for MC Paypass locations and I've found everywhere that's on the list generally accepts them. I have to agree with it being limited. Google Wallet needs to stop treating this like a hobby and add cards other than Citibank. GW needs to mature a lot before ISIS or even Apple arrives on the scene.

LOL... I've heard the clerks tell people they can't use credit cards. I just ambush them and hit the terminal with my phone and if they ever say anything I can just show them the pic of the GW Prepaid and point at the "DEBIT" in the graphic. After all I can't control how their POS terminal processes it and by the time they notice it's too late.

clearly you aren't on food stamps or you would know how to work those angles. Lol.
And, I was being sarcastic about everything I said. just to make sure everyone knows. But you can bet that someone will figure out how to link their food stamps to this. Here in Illinois food stamps are on a debit card called "Illinois link". And like most states, there are people who use them that know how to work the system to get all sorts of crazy stuff.
This morning I was at the gas station behind a guy who used his link to buy candy and soda not just for him but for his buddy too. Wearing 200 Jordans, gold chains, about 250 worth of clothes on, a gold grill, and diamonds in his ears. Talking on an iphone 4 the whole time. Then watched him get into his relatively new Lincoln Navigator with 20+" wheels. Then I had the privilege of following him on my way to work. His stereo booming the two blocks until he pulled into the govt housing authority homes, where I wouldn't be surprised if he lived.
So...I guess that probably contributed to my sarcasm this morning.
At any rate, won't be surprised if food stamps are on Nfc within a year or two.

I hear ya. I used to live directly across from govt projects. I would always see aarons and rent a center trucks there dropping off big screen TV's. I even see several 50"+ televisions on the trash curb. Aside from that it wasn't a horrible place to live. if you don't mind loud music, large groups of 50+ people fighting with everything from broom sticks to tire irons, and weekly shootings that is.
But yeah. My sister is a cashier @ Walmart a and says a large portion of the people are rude. I've seen it myself standing in line behind many of them.
And don't get me wrong. A good deal of those people are in legitimate need of assistance. They are grateful for the help and do what they can to become self sufficient as time goes on.
But a significant portion of the people are not deserving, are rude, dishonest, and generally don't deserve anything they get.
and as for the comment about how putting food stamps on these devices would probably drive Google wallet. It probably would. And even though it is only on high end phones, you can bet your bottom dollar that a lot of people on welfare have high end phones.

Your 2 cents on Piracy

Recently I saw that apps are now discriminating against root users(not allowing download/play). Do you think if apps would universally start doing this, would it cut down piracy or just push more root users to download illegally?
I for one believe it will have the latter effect, what do you guys think of this?

So what are some example apps that are denying access if your phone is determined to be rooted? I've never run into one, and I can't imagine any popular app would resort to something so easily worked around.
(the workaround: temporarily move/rename the 'su' binary out of the PATH to "hide" it, since that's the method almost all apps would use to detect if you're rooted.)
To install a pirated app is allow unknown sources...anyone can do it, idk why they are discriminating....

Yeah...and the entitlement mindset "you have something that I feel that I'm entitled to and I don't care if I do something that's wrong...all that matters is that I get it...."...that's a point of view.
I've never understood people who use this rationale....stealing is stealing no matter how you justify it to make yourself feel better while you are doing it.

What's the threshold for stealing? If it were only $50 then it wouldn't be ok? $25? If you can't afford a new car you couldn't just go steal one and have it be ok. And everyone knows "You wouldn't download a car."
If I don't want to pay what it's offered for then I just do without. People should look into dropping their entitlement complex.
On another note, I don't buy into the whole "It's not available in my locale" argument. Maybe I just don't fully understand it being in the US. I've seen many ways to fool your phone/the market to seeing a new locale (for free), and most apps I've ever bought have a direct buy version anyway.
Doesn't say anywhere that you have to pay for the apps. Me downloading an apk isn't theft. The original copy is still left intact. Pirates raid ships and steal. They don't make copies.

If the app isn't offered for free by the developer and you obtain a copy without paying then you're stealing. If you want a warm fuzzy because you're stealing something that can be copied then go ahead and tell yourself that. You are still taking money out of the dev's pocket through theft.

This argument only stands if you intended to buy the app in the first place and if there weren't so many cases in which piracy increased sales rather than decreased them.
Of course, the opposite is true as well. There are a number of games out there where it was simply more prudent to pirate the game if you wanted to, you know, play it whenever you wanted (Cough, Ubisoft games, cough).
I understand that some people are morally outraged by piracy... but much like so many other things in life, not everyone is. I used to pirate like nobodies business.. but now that I make more money, I typically only pirate the game if I am unsure about it and it doesn't have a demo. If I like it, I go buy it. If not, I get rid of it. I also typically pirate games that have an obscenely restrictive DRM embedded... not because I want to play it but just because screw those guys for putting it in there. DRM increases piracy, not hinders it.
However, copyright infringement is not theft. It is not stealing. Nothing is removed from anywhere. No money is removed from the dev's pockets because it was never there in the first place. If the item couldn't be pirated, that person wouldn't magically have more money because a whole lot of the people that pirate do it because they can't afford it in the first place.
Not to mention, there are companies who don't consider piracy a bad thing: http://www.gamespot.com/news/angry-birds-dev-says-piracy-may-not-be-a-bad-thing-6349485
Not to mention all of these industries who are trying to fight piracy so hard are doing it in the utterly wrong way. People pirate movies? Ok, rather than make movies easy to obtain online and permanently owned just like a dvd copy... they make it abnormally difficult, with higher prices and restrictive licensing and DRM. They make movie ticket prices skyrocket. In short, they make it annoying as all hell to acquire a legitimate digital copy. On the flipside, you can go to google, type in the name of a movie (Say... I dunno, The Avengers), pull up a torrent site, hit download and bam, you now have a digital copy without drm you own.
Music is much the same way, though it is improving. It isn't a whole lot better but I have forsaken pirating music and simply listen to Pandora or Spotify.
TV shows are in the same bracket as movies. It would be so simply to, the night of or the day after showing a new episode, put it up for sale for a dollar or two for people to buy and own. Make it quick, cheap and simple and people will FLOCK to it. But they don't. So everyone just goes and watches Hulu or pirates it.
Games are a more unique sector. They have numerous methods of easily obtaining the games but these methods are getting more restrictive, with licensing and "If you piss us off, you lose everything you bought from us" rules. Origin does this, Steam... yeah, not a very good thing. Why spend all that time worrying about that if you only play single player? Just go pirate it, then nobody can take it from you, right? So we have easy methods of quickly obtaining games, but they keep adding on to their list of rules and restrictions. Steam is the best of the bunch and even they will remove all access to the hundreds to thousands of dollars of games you spent if you break a rule. Even they don't allow anything but arbitration suits. You know the times that most games make the largest amount of sales and profit on Steam? During the Summer Sale and Winter Sale. Dev's love those sales because sales skyrocket to the moon and beyond. Their profit skyrockets for a few weeks. These sales make it obvious what the problem is for a lot of people... money. Is it worth the money? Yeah... less games are these days than ever. Yay, $64.94 after tax for a new game... with 4 hours of gameplay! Awesome, I totally feel that was worth my money! I am definitely going to go buy Gears of War 2 now for another 4 hours of fun!
Is piracy wrong? According to society, yes. Is it even remotely as harmful as the corporations play it out to be? Not hardly.
Forbes:
"This is a negotiation where at any time, your customer could just go download the damn movie for free, and they’re doing you a favor by even considering picking it up legally. And you have the nerve to think it’s on YOUR terms? That’s not how negotiation works. It may not be right, but it’s reality, and they have to face it.
Yet movie companies threaten to put Netflix out of business by charging them huge amounts of money to have access to their content. Netflix is in the forefront of the war on piracy, and the studios don’t even seem to understand it. It’s incredible."

Yes. Yes I would. If I could, I most certainly would.
Everything in the world should be open source. Open source coding languages are being used to code these apps. For the most part. So why is it right for someone to charge money for something they built using free software? If I were a dev, I'd open up all my code to the community so we can all improve upon it.

I used to pirate apps...when i was a dumb teenager with little money. Now, i buy ALL my apps, how hard is it to pay 0.99$ for most apps, or even 5$ for the most premium, you not only get regular updates and you also say thank you to the guy that spent time and money to bring you something cool. If people were not so lazy or had higher goals in life than working for a fast food or grocery store, maybe they'd didn't care to pay that little price. The only thing i still pirate is movies, and it's strictly for convenience because here in Canada, our Netflix sucks pretty bad, our video store rent movies for 1/4 of the price of buying it new, and i live a good 30 minutes away from the closest video store. So i have no choice to download if i want to see a movie. But i regularly go to the theaters.

That move doesn't quite compute for me. Doesn't Sprint essentially control ClearWire? I suppose if Sprint needs cash more than it needs spectrum (which if probably the case), then it makes more sense.

Sprint owns clear but they are still run independently of each other. ..2 separate companies .... similar to how Samsung can compete against Apple being sued by Apple and will still sell parts to Apple

I agree, mostly. Except that Samsung isn't selling away their most important asset to Apple, the tech and research behind the screens.
As I understand it, ClearWire only has one thing that people want, and that is the spectrum itself. Unless Sprint can never use the spectrum Verizon wants, this move still confuses me.
Does anybody in here know about how this affects stocks? It went up almost $1 today!!!! So I was reading and did some research and this article says that it will disappear after a couple days and to sell , I dont understand how all that works anyone w some insight id greatly appreciate it.

Big, there is no magic formula for how stocks go up and down. I mean, at one time or another, there are methods to follow, but once everyone catches on...typically it stops working. That's not to say that in situations like this, with announcements like this, that the sudden excitement doesn't drive prices up only to come back down shortly thereafter. It happens, and happens often.
But, who's to say in this instance that prices don't hold and potentially go up even further?
For all intensive purposes, the stock market is a zero-sum game (debatable). When I lose, someone else has won.
All in all, I stay away from the stock market. Not because it's inherently bad, but because I haven't spent enough time researching it and getting to know the ins and outs.

Thank you for this. I can't believe I've been saying this wrong for so long. Myself being a person who takes pride in proper grammar etiquette had to look it up to make sure you were correct. Alas, you are 100% right, and I've probably sounded like an ass at more than a few interviews lol.

Of course it would go up: the prospect that now 2 companies are looking forward to buy CW (one of them at a higher price) makes CW stock a bit more attractive thus pushing people to buy shares, as the amount of shares available go down their price goes up and now whoever owns CW shares is making an extra dollar per share if they decide to sell.
its sprint

its not clear wire that they want to buy .....dish is trying to buy sprint and verizon wants to lease the clear spectrum . dish offered 25.5 billion for sprint and verizon offered 1.5 billion to lease the spectrum ...vzw is not trying to buy clear that deal is already done with sprint and clear ..
I have no doubt that Dish will win this war - http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-...perior-to-softbank-s-investor-omega-says.html
A great read what dish is about & how Ergen has reached this point - http://finance.yahoo.com/news/dish-network-meanest-company-america-194008712.html?page=all

I really hope not. Dish IMHO is the bargain basement satellite. Many complaints of non existent customer service. Would be the beginning of the end for Sprint as this approach seems have been tried by Sprint and failed horribly.

if dish buys sprint, ill walk.
Offering more cash, keeping it in US, "synergy" with TV offerings... all fine and good sounding as statements I've read around the web for "pro" DiSH (I would actually contest the positive aspects of the TV network/wireless network synergy...)
The fact is, Softbank has Many orders of magnitude in assets overall to continue to support and invest in the network. And the motivation to do it, as a well established tech-forward company. ($4 trillion vs $11 billion...)
As where DiSHs motivations in the wireless business are akin to Comcasts in the ISP business. Not to provide you an excellent data service, but to sell you the bundles, the programing, the advertising, where their true money is made. Bad for the consumer.
I for one, welcome our new Eastern overlords.
I am a customer of both Sprint and Dish already. I guess that wouldn't hurt to combine the two. For me anyway... Though this is clearly a response to comcast teaming with Vzw.
