I've noticed lately that any app I download that has a live tile crashes when I try to run it. Any other app runs fine. I was curious that this might be a result of the 15 push app limit. So, I went thru all my apps that have live tiles, removed them from my start screen, and unchecked "live tile," "push notification" or whatever option they had. This did not fix the problem, even after a reboot. If i re-pin one of the old apps and enable live tile, they work just fine.
I'm wondering this is just a glitch with my phone, or whether wp7 doesn't have the ability to release the "hold" that an app has on one of the 15 available channels. Is anyone having this same experience?
Did you ever find a resolution for this other than a hard rest? I am experiencing the same problem and have also tried disabling all my notification apps. Im debating weather I should wait till NoDo and see if it fixes the problem before I hard reset.
On another note, is there any way or do any of my games data get saved when hard resetting? I really dont want to loose that saved data.

It's quite possible that the installed apps aren't handling the disabling of notifications correctly and clearing the channel. So if they've already registered a channel, they'll still count towards the 15.
Try uninstalling one of them, and check if that helps.
Incidentally, the apps shouldn't crash when they can't register a channel, they should catch the error and let you know. Let the developer know what's happening so they can fix it (don't do it via a review, try emailing them).

It definately seems like the apps are not releasing the channel properly. Is there any way to go into the registry and manually removed them? Also I have removed several of the apps that had Live Tilese enabled then disabled but I still cannot enable Live Tiles in new apps without receiving an error.
Edit: I went through and removed several other apps including one in which I was having issues on and off with live tiles. After uninstalling that app Live Tiles seems to be working on all my other apps. I'm not sure if the problem was the specific app or not but the issue appears to be cleared up. Thanks dgaust for the advise.

It's not a problem with your phone, it's a problem in the app. The SDK launchs a exception when you are over 15. Write to the developper to fix this problem

The problem I as having was that I wasnt over the 15 limit, I was at something closer to 5-10 but some of my previous apps apparently had not removed themselves from the list when I disabled them.

Well none of the MS apps count towards the live tile limits. but even the you were no where near the 15 limit.

Just checked Flixster, and Enable Live Tile is ticked.I presume I did that when I first got it a week or so agnly after reading this thread did I think about it.It has never been a live tile since I pinned it to the homescreen on day of download.
All of mine stopped working recently, too. My Weather Channel and Stock tile are stuck at the same spot they were several days ago. My Focus also forgot all my passwords and I had to reenter them. I think I have to hard reset, but since there's no way to back up text messages now I'd really rather not do that.

I sucked it up and did a hard reset. Everything's updating normally now. MS really needs to come up with a solution for backing up text messages.
One nice feature I discovered in the process is that the Zune software keeps a cache of the transcoded files, so syncing 10GB of stuff was super quick. I go with 320kbps MP3 on the HTPC and bump that down to 192 on the phone.
I have had this issue before, when turning off WiFi at the office to reduce battery drain (since we have a hidden WiFi) and when enabling it back it just won't update, most of the time the internet connection is poor to non-existent on 3G or on WiFi at home (HD7 here)
Just a soft reset did the trick

I started having the same problem with the weather apps, before I returned the HD7 that I had.

I am also facing the same issue with weather apps. First i thought weather bug was not working and reinstalled it couple of times. Also tried weather channel and no use.
email push works fine.
You can tell if it's a push problem or not by testing out the Find My Phone option from your Live account online. If it says it can't use push notifications, you might have to hard reset.
i went to live account and clicked ring the phone and it didn't work for first time, tried again and worked.
i'm seeing the same "no update" behavior with Weather Bug, but Weather Channel is working fine. glad to know it's not only me with this issue. also, i'm able to ring my phone, so i don't know that my issue is "push" related.
Live tile server
Hi all
A live tile needs a dedicated server. If there is a problem with that server then the live tile will stop working. That is nothing to do with the device.
The Weatherbug live tile server seemed to have an extended period of down time but has now come back online again.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't live tiles only work if the application is tombstoned?
all 3rd party apps automatically get tombstoned/killed when they aren't visible. the live tile is a separate service and has nothing to do with the state of the application itself.

I guess you are right, this morning all my live tiles are working again with the exception of Beezz, and I think it's a problem on the application server.
I didn't see a thread about any issues regarding post-Nodo forced update. I originally posted my issue, but have since resolved mine, but there are some out there with issues. Post them here, I'll try to keep main page updated w/ any options/suggestions for FIXES. Thanks

Nice. I guess it's a personal issue with my device. I've heard of people having this issue just in general, and sometimes a hard reset worked. I'm just afraid of going back to the original pre-pre-nodo settings. Would that be the case? or would a hard reset still have nodo update on it?
everything is working good for me as well....only app giving me problems is one of the theme color changers and just my luck is was my fav one...no problems with marketplace apps...
I just updated my Focus on AT&T. The only problem I've found is with the Zune software. I'm currently re-syncing my entire music collection back to the phone (since I had to remove a lot of content to get the install to go through), and after a random amount of time, the sync will stop. The error is that the USB connection has been removed, but it hasn't been touched.

Some of my live tiles have been blank in the past but rebooting fixed some, just opening the program from the tile fixed some, re-pinning fixed one and reinstalling fixed another.
Anybody notice that you make a phone call it no longer vibrates on connect? I really liked that... wonder if there's a way to bring it back...?
I played it safe and uninstalled all 3rd party apps, deleted all provxml files but left it dev unlocked as i did nodo update. Seems to have paid off cos it is still unlocked and sideloading is still possible.

QUite unnecessary if you would've followed the Prevent Relock instructions. I just left mine registry unlocked and updated to NoDo and my phone and all 3rd party apps are still functional. Even installed an XAP just to be sure.
Please have these types of discussions in WP7 General. These do not contribute or add anything specifically along the lines of hacking WP7, just discussing official update issues.

Posted this on the Omnia form but no replies....Screen resoluti1on on my Omnia is poorer for some web pages (specifically noticed the pictures on Bing are really banded but used to be crystal clear, WPCentral webpage also even more banded than it used to be).
Anyone else noticed this? was hoping there may be a firmware fix, but haven't found anything (was running XEN JK1 prior to the NoDo update).

woah, I just noticed the same thing, samsung focus here
also, when i attempt to access "find my phone" it gives me a "setting up find my phone..." dialog box with an ok button, when I hit the ok it goes back to my start screen
Fixed my issue
I said "F it" and did a hard reset, and, voila, after downloading all my 3rd party apps again, the live tiles are working. Didn't take long to set everything back up, as outlook had all of my contacts set up. It restored to factory settings, but with NoDo update
Yahoo! Issues
I installed NoDo Yesterday and this morning I went to check my e-mails however now I cant sync my e-mails with yahoo! anymore =S anyone else having the same problem? Or hopefully know how to fix it?
Nevermind fixed it myself apparently when it updated to NoDo Yahoo! figured it connecting was suspicious so I changed my password and all works now =) Thanks anyway!
I lost windows live calendar and contact sync. Even inside of Settings>email & accounts>Windows Live, I only have the checkbox to sync email. I tried adding another Windows Live account and that is able to sync both contacts and calendar. I am going to try to remove the original account and re-add it. Will post results shortly.
Edit: So you can't even delete the original Windows Live account you set your phone up with. I don't want to hard reset, but I will if I have to. Any other ideas?
I noticed after the Pre-NoDo Update that on the Lock Screen text is running off the screen instead of wrapping, so now it looks like utter **** in addition to being unreadable because my Calendar is filled with items that may start off the same, but the part that isn't hte same is off the screen. I'm 100% sure this was wrapping before that Pre-Update. Before it looked like this:

There's been a boatload of new apps this week and alot of them feature push and toast notifications the Facebook update and the Kik app. I haven't been able to get push working for either app. My push works perfectly every time for IM PLUS but nothing else. I went and turned push and toast notifications off for my older apps and still no push for fb and kik I even uninstalled and reinstalled both and still no push. Anybody else having these issues? Can we restart push notifications somehow? I'm considering restarting the whole phone
For u early mango users is there a way in settings to manage ur push and toast notifications instead of going into each app and turning them off/on? I hope they fix this in mango

If your device is developer unlocked so you can deploy a registry editor (or own an LG device which has the editor built in), you can follow the steps described here to get notifications back working. I did it several times and it works for sure.
Now that I applied the mango pre-release there doesn't seem to be the need for tweaking anymore. All my apps recieve and show notifications just fine.
Remember there's a limit to the number of apps that can be "live" at once which I think is 15 at the moment. If you've reached that limit then you need to turn PN off in some apps. The limit is raised to 30 in Mango.

I have never been able to receive push properly, hour long delays, no deliveries...
mango changes it all. I can tell you push has been working without noticable delay for almost a day now. It seems really stable both on and off WiFi. Seems like they got it right

I really don't want to hard reset. If u hard reset are ur contacts backed up in your live account? And do you have to redownload the apps u had before or can u just sync with Zune to get ur apps back?
I'm glad to hear mango seems to have push fixed this is frustrating how it seems everybody in all the video reviews of apps and forums seem to have push working or atleast the majority of people
It's because reviewers probably reset often but also are in the US where the issue is rare.
Everytime I reset my contacts are synched with my live account but that's part of my settings. Most apps downloaded from the Zune software come back but the missing ones and those downloaded from the phone must be reinstalled manually. Can't wait for Mango as this is a pain.
Oh, if you have games you'll lose your saves.

mine always broke within an hour. So yeah this is a major improvement so far.
with NoDo -rarely- uninstalling and reinstalling an app _multiple times_ solved the problem. At least that's what some users told me

well I can tell you that's not true.
they had to recode the push system for Mango because the European carriers handle the data connections differently.
It's still not perfect btw. I have an occasional push not coming trough.
hopefully these links can be ironed out for the final release. I'll keep testing and see id it will remain working.

We are talking about different issues. Microsoft acknowledged problems with their phone internal push database (and registry) where applications remained there even after uninstalled. This created a problem of:
- reaching 15 limit
- same app reinstalled got a different channel id which wasn't written in the registry
What you're speaking of is just the fact that some european networks close the connections much more aggressively than in the US AND that they didn't take into consideration too much the fact that you can be on wifi behind mountains of proxies and routers. In the end they tried to save battery, which is not bad, but in some instances made the live tile connection unreliable.

Facebook and Weatherlive still not working. This sucks. The only time they update is when I manually launch the apps.
At times I think the live tiles get stuck for a day or two. This seems to be considerably less with Mango and Mango enabled apps, however.
I don't know if Facebook is working now, but it was yesterday.
WeatherLive has refused to automatically update since I installed it. I don't think the problem is on MS's end.

Well it's been 10 days and bth apps have been uninstalled twice. There my only two apps that I turn on live tiles for.
If you look at the thread posted by the OP you'll see comments that the problem is still present.
I have been experiencing issues with Live tiles for my Whatsapp and Facebook app for around 2 weeks now.
If you have too many apps using push notifications, they stop working for some reason - I can't remember what the limit is, but try turning off push notifications on some apps and see if that works.

Weather Live refused to automatically update the live tile. I have Hong Kong Weather installed and it can automatically update the live tile with the current weather together with the update time stamp. This is not OS issue but the application problem. Weather Live needs to study and push the update to the exisiting buyer.
Here's a list of reported bugs since the 4.4.2 kitkat upgrade (bugs may not affect everyone)
1. Horizontal lines during video playback - happens randomly - Rebooting the tablet fixes it / enabling "Disable overlay" in developer settings seems to work -elzeus
2. Audio quality degradation - happens randomly - Rebooting the tablet fixes it / going to test after a clean stock install -elzeus

Battery life
The big issue i have is the battery life. today i couldn't get more then 2 hours on the internet. Did a factory reset and the same thing.
Once it reaches 5 percent if i restart it goes up to 25 but it drops back down to 5 percent in like 5 minutes. Tried with no sd card, no other app's but the same thing. Anyone with a tip on how to get this fixed?? Before the update it was working fine.....
I've added your issues. I have not come across that battery issue on my tablet. Have you tried wiping your cache and user data from recovery before setting up the tablet?
Update for my issues I did a Odin restore with the stock 4.4.2 image and so far no video or sound issues but they took some time to show up before so I'll be keeping a close eye on it.

I can verify random audio quality issue. Happened to me four times since the KK update.
It seems to happen either after you quit an app/game or waking the Note from sleep. I haven't been able to trace the trigger to an exact action or app yet, if there is one.
You don't have to reboot to fix. You can fix by locking and unlocking... maybe once, maybe a few times. But it comes back to normal after one or a few tries for me. Reminds me of the audio bug we had on the HP Touchpad after its final firmware update. Damn! I thought I wasn't going to have to deal with that anymore!
I'll try to be more specific on the lock/unlock fix as I gather more info when it happens again.
And by the way, the fix on the Touchpad was also very similar - lock, wait ten seconds, unlock... lol... maybe Samsung is using the Touchpad audio driver!

Got lines again on video tried to lock a bunch of times didn't work (ill try for audio). Don't they test these updates? This is a pretty nasty bug that didnt happen pre kitkat, I think im going to downgrade until its fixed.

I'm trying out forced gpu rendering to see if it fixes it. It seems like it is a software issue as it affects the pro 12.2 model as well.

Did everything but didn't help, last night i left in recovery mode so i can make sure the battery dies completely and to day i saw a big improvement.

And for these "bugs" my question is: Why not everyone have it? Why only a small group? Therefore I don't think that these are bugs but have to do with your installation.
Did anyone of your try a factory reset? Try out on a clean installation, which means without any settings changed, any app installed, any sd-card inserted?

I've done a factory reset & clean installation. I haven't rooted but did add my normal apps after getting it setup with sd card. The next time it happens I'll try unmounting the sd card.
If you check out this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEasAq2ik_A they also had the issue on their Pro 12.2 but that tablet received a stability update in early April that may have fixed it. It may be that our version was trailing there's or there is some other variable (no magazine UI etc) that is causing it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50527314&postcount=20 that person also had the lines in late Feb. I'll pm him and ask him if the issue went away after their update.
Forcing GPU 2d rendering from the developer options didn't seem to work as the corruption came back, but I did enable the "Disable UI overlay" and it did end up going away "crossing fingers" as this is the only thing I've tried that has gotten rid of the lines while the tablet is powered on (usually it only goes away after rebooting).
Another bug I found so far is with the included Email app. I'm using it with my gmail account. The new version included with KK has an issue with sent mail. Specifically, it doesn't update the sent mail folder - at least for me. It used to work perfectly. Now when you send an email from the app, the email doesn't show up in your sent mail folder within the app. I have tried deleting all the email data on the tablet, and the cache, and set it up four times since KK and it it just won't show email you send from the tablet in the sent mail folder. Note, I'm not talking about email that is already in your sent email folder in your gmail account. I'm saying, send a new email from the tablet, and that email should immediately appear in your sent mail folder, but it doesn't. It doesn't ever show up there. Kind of a problem. Can anyone else confirm this? Send an email from the Email app and see if it shows up in your sent mail folder within the email app. Thanks.

You're a developer and you say that? Are you serious? I'm an expert user. Every platform I've ever owned for the past 30 years from the Commodore 64 to this Note 10.1 has had bugs, some minor, some major. Just like the 24-second touchsceen timeout bug I found and reported in the last firmware version. The new KK update is so new its still rolling out to users. I've already encountered two bugs for sure - the audio quality bug and the email bug I just described in the previous post. The audio bug has been confirmed and I believe the email bug I just reported will also be confirmed. The fact is that certain people are more adept at finding and reporting issues. It also depends on how you use the device and with what regularity. Are you suggesting that we sit on our hands and not report the problems we find? Please.

I normally just use gmail but I setup the stock email app to test it for you. I set it up as a push account and sent a test email. It was briefly in the "Outbox" folder then it was sent out leaving the outbox folder empty. I then checked the Sent folder right underneath the outbox folder and it wasn't updated yet so I hit the refresh button in the top right corner and my test email showed up.

I never said that there are no bugs. I am only saying that not every issue is a bug. I mean when your are playing with the developer options (which normally hidden with a reason) then you should understand what yiu are doing and not call then probelms because of it a bug.

I never did that. I only mentioned not to call issues a bug. This didn't help anyone. People who didn't have this problem begin to fear it and people who have will stop searching the real reason because it is a bug.
I mean what I see are already hundreds of downloads of KK and only 3 persons complaint the video "bug". Did you think that only 3 "power" users are watching videos?

Same here and I checked it also with other KK devices and there it is the same, which is for me also normal. But maybe I didn't understand your problem?

Do you have an SD card inserted?
I just tried something where:
1) I deleted my email account from the client again
2) deleted the data/cache from the Email app
3) ejected my SD card
4) set up the account again in the Email client
5) sent a test email
6) sent email now shows up in sent email folder but only after a manual refresh
7) reinserted SD card
8) sent another test email
9) sent email still showing up in sent email folder, but only after a manual refresh (shouldn't have to do that) and it takes awhile.... hmmm....
I tried this because I was reading a thread in the 12.2 forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2670065) where a guy mentioned a similar issue. I thought I would try dismounting the SD card and setting up the account again... still not happy... still uncertain about this... something wonky here.
I'll try more tomorrow... must sleep now.
Chromecast systemui crash is pretty serious.
Lockscreen widgets are broken.

Yes SD card inserted 24/7 never removed it after the initial 4.4.2 recovery setup.

Adding to the list, I could have sworn before I reinstalled 4.4.2 that my lockscreen widgets were working after upgrading from 4.3 but now I have no option to enable them in 4.4.2.

I didn't have any problem with email I was tracing my steps for jaytee in case I did anything different from him in the way his email is setup. As for the list if they aren't bugs then what are they? People make bug lists so they can get fixed or so people can post workarounds. The only reason I enabled the developer options was to find a solution for the video lines...so far the disable overlay checkbox has worked.

Maybe it is personal but I would call them problems and not bugs. The difference for me is that a problem is my problem and I have to find a solution or work-around (or someone else for me) and a bug came from Samsung and normally can only be solved by Samsung. A problem didn't have anybody, can be constructive be solved and create a positive atmosphere here in xda. A bug have anybody, can be solved only by experts and is something negative because the product didn't work like it should be.
Therefore I find good that you start such a list but I would more mentioned what you did before (how you get the update), which update, if rooted or not, what happens and what was expected and then if a solution or work-around exists.

You're both sort-of correct. There are pervasive "bugs" and situational bugs. @Elim is right, it's pretty clear that some of the issues being reported are situational bugs caused by some combination of elements that affect a subset of users. Add to that no two Android devices are configured the same way and it's easy to see how things that affect one user (or set of users) don't affect another. Some people rooted, some use tons of system/memory managers and battery boosters, some flashed over 4.3, and some are using a ROM from a different CSC than assigned to their h/w. All those things can cause issues of varying degrees.
Not everyone's having the battery life, Chromecast, and video lines issues so you can pretty much assume it's not the 4.4 s/w alone causing some folks to have problems. Like Elim said, if it were in the core ROM s/w everyone would be experiencing the issues equally. His advice was solid; do a restore through recovery and before loading any personal apps or settings see if the problem(s) still there. If it's not, it's something related to an individual configuration.
I don't have a problem with Chromecast or lockscreen widgets.
