I recently installed cm7.0.3 and flashed gapps where I was able to download and install one messaging app. However now when I try to download and install any other app such as Opera, I see the download arrow which quickly disappears and does not install. Thus far, for any app I download, it does not install.
I did find a thread while googling for answers, but I can't install the app. Here were the instructions:
1. Backup SD Card
2. Partition your SD Card with Rom Manager (512mb/64mb swap)
3. Install Simple2Ext (You can find it in the Android Market)
4. Open Simple2Ext and toggle on 'Download Cache'.
5. Now, reboot your Desire and you should be able to install apps.

Click to collapse
So I can't really continue with it. I also don't know where the .apk files are downloaded to so I can't be sure that the system just doesn't immediately delete it
after flashing gapps, did you wipe your cache and dalvik cache?
I am not sure I did, I remember doing that when flashing cm7 but I doubt I did while flashing Gapps. What are the commands to do that? (unless there is an option in the interface somewhere)
EDIT: I found it in recovery mode. Ah that works. Thanks.
clicking the button thanks would be nice
Installed a new ROM, trying to install titanium backup, says unknown error -24 on the market. Deleted everything in data/data, all other apps installed fine but Titanium won't install. I NEED to restore my files ASAP! Thanks!

This is a common error that occurs with the Play Store sometimes after flashing ROMs without wiping data, or with an incomplete un-installation (apk corruption, etc.)
Simple to fix:
(I'm assuming you're rooted, chances are you are if you get this error)
- YOU'LL LOSE YOUR DATA FOR THAT APP (You would have done anyway, if it was uninstalled properly) -
1.) Using a root file manager, go to /data/data
2.) Find the package name of the app you're wanting to install
(Don't know the package name? Find the app you're wanting to install on the Play Store online and it's in the URL)
3.) Delete that folder. All of it.
4.) Try to install your app again, it should work now
5.) If you like, hit the thanks button
Already done that mate.. but still get the error with titanoum, data/data is empty now

Hi,
I'm new here and I'd like to install a new ROM on my Gio but I want to make sure I know what I'm doing before trying something and bricking my phone.
ClockWorkMod
I installed CWM v5.2.0.6 (followed the instructions here). Is this ok, or do I need to install v5.0.2.7? And if I do need a newer version, is there a way to get an update or do I have to follow the same steps as before?
1.Download the CWM 5.0 v2 and copy to the Root (not in any folder) of your SD card
2. Put your phone in recovery Mode(press: Home button + Power button toghether)
3. In recovery mode, select the downloaded file from SD-card(Use Volume keys to navigate and home button for enter).
4. Search for the root gb updated.zip file on your SD-card
5. Run the update
6. Reboot
Click to collapse
I tried creating a backup with the CWM version I have, but I get this error: "Can't mount /system".
CWM does create a folder in sdcard/ clockworkmod/ backup/ date, but it only contains the following files:
recovery.img and boot.img.
However, this post says I should actually have more files in the backup folder:
.android_secure.vfat.tar ,boot.img , cache.ext4.tar , data.ext4.tar , nandroid.md5 , recovery.img, system.ext4.tar.
Is this because of my CWM version? Or maybe because I still have the operating system that came with my device (+updates)?
What I really want to know is: can I rely on this backup, will it work?
ROMs
I want to install CM10.1.5 from here, but I have many questions and I don't really know where to look for answers. (Sorry, I really am a complete noob.)
What's the difference between androidarmv6 jenkins build and mardon build? And what's the difference between the 3 versions? Can I just install the Version with CM-Superuser and not worry about it?
Should the updates be installed via CWM - apply update from SDcard? What about the additions - CWM --> install zip from SDcard?
How can I install extras if they are "not CWM flashable"?
What happens to my apps when I install a new ROM? Do I have to install them all again? Is all data lost? Or will they all be restored from my google account and the SD card or something like that?
Finally, how can I use the ext2 partition in my SDcard to install apps? Is this function included in the ROM? Or do I need to install something else? a2sd darktremor? If yes, how (I find the instructions here confusing and overwhelming, and the post is old, so probably outdated)? Or should I use the "Link2SD" addition to the ROM?
I'm sorry for asking so much, but I'm feeling kind of lost.
Thanks in advance.
Anyone?
I've continued trying to figure things out when I have time. I'll post what I find in this thread, in case someone else comes here looking for answers to similar doubts/problems.
In trying to understand what's going on with ClockWorkMod Recovery, I found this very useful link:
wwwDOTtechbiiDOTcom / cwm-recovery-cant-mount-system-error-solution-how-to/
(sorry for the DOTs and spaces, can't post outside links yet)
CWM Recovery – Can’t Mount System Error Solution [How To]
(...)
The error is an expected one and happens generally when you are trying to backup a stock ROM using the clock work mod recovery. Please, note that you can’t do a completed nandroid backup of a stock firmwares. So, just install any custom ROM and then you can backup and restore anytime.

If I understood correctly, the best (only?) way to return to stock ROM is to install Odin or similar firmware flashing tool and to get the stock firmware from sites like sammobile.com and sampro.pl. However, it also says that not all firmwares might be available and I haven't looked more into it all of this yet.
Did you root your phone yet?
That should solve the problem from the can't mount system, data, etc
If you need more information, then look at this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1397120

Yes, I used the instructions there to root my phone and install CWM (v5.0.2.6), but that thread is 2 years old, so I'm afraid it won't be up to date in relation to certain things. For example, I did create an ext2 partition on my SD card using those instructions, but I found an easier way to move apps from my phone to the SDcard (using the link2SD app, available on Google Play). The information about ROMs is also not up to date.
If you want to install a custom rom just
-wipe data factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-advance>wipe dalvik cache
-install zip from sdcard
-reboot
NOTE: the zip is the rom

Thank you.
My main concern at the moment is how to restore my original ROM if something should go wrong, though. I've found some interesting information in this thread but I've been busy this week and I'll need to go back and read it all with more attention before I try something.
Download ODIN 4.42 and GIO ops and a sotckrom MD5 file then put it into the odin and put your phone into recovery mdoe and plug it into your computer. Then click start
you have to put your phone in downloadmode to flash with odin as far as i know,but i have an other question;
can you use heimdall with the samsung galaxy gio
I am trying to flash a new recovery on my samsung galaxy gio with ODIN after it is bricked flashing tass- 6.0.4.5.zip(this cwm seems for the mini!!!) is this possible and if so,which one can?and how to do that...
thanks in advance
Yes it is possible and you need ODIN 4.42, GiPS and a Stock Rom extracted out of the zip.

Hi all,
I have the mentioned error on Nexus 7 LTE version, Stock android(AOSP), rooted. The error pops up every 2 seconds. Here is what I have done so far:
- Clear Contacts
- Clear Contacts storage
- Clear Mobile Data
- Clear Google contacts Sync
- Disable Mobile data from the settings menu
- Rebooted the device several times
Because I was getting the error every 2 secs, it was a bit annoying to do all the above commands in 2 secs intervals. Anyway, non of them solve the issue and finally I rebooted the device with no SIM card and obviously the error is gone.
Could you please help me to fix the error while the SimCard is in the SIM slot? I need to have the Mobile data ability.
Best regards,
Shobeir
Update: I kept getting the error right after rebooting the device after some time (more than 3 days) and I installed a couple of apps in the meanwhile. But there wasn't any error until the device was rebooted.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
Are you using any startup managers that might have disabled a module from starting automatically?
If you haven't, with you having done all the other things, I'd suggest your next step is to reflash the stock ROM (first wipe cache, system and userdata to be sure). Test things out without installing any apps.

I haven't use any startup manager. Recently I installed the Android device manager and Battery Doctor. I uninstalled them based on your suggestion as they may be associated with the mobile data. I am getting same error..
Do you have any idea why this error is being generated?

No idea. It's hard to say if Battery Doctor hibernated something and left things mucked up, even if you uninstalled it. At this point I'd look to making backups and reflashing your ROM. You'll save more time than investigating what might have happened.

Thank you for the reply.
Here is what I have done (It may help others):
1. Using Titanuim backup to backup my device and generated an update.zip so I was able to flash the update.zip from CWMR to restore the apps faster that ever
2. Using ADB to transfer ROM files to N7 in order to install it in sideload mode
3. Install the ROM (CM11)
4. Restore apps. It was awesome restoring!
But I wasn't able to install (flash) the image factory from Google. The file comes in ".tgz" format and inside the compressed file, there is ".zip" file, but the ".zip" will be aborted in the installation process!! I have downloaded the ".tgz" file twice to make sure it wasn't because of a broken download file.
Any idea how to install RAZORG KOT49H on Nesux 7 with CWMR?
Cheers,
Shobeir

Update: I have found this post useful and it is the solution I was looking for.
I gather you extracted twice, using something like 7-Zip or WinRAR? Inside there's image-razor-kot49h.zip, and another file flash-all.bat to flash it.
If you prefer, you could extract the zip into its individual .img files, then do things like "fastboot flash system system.img" to restore each one. It's much easier to use flash-all.bat, though.

Do this:
With your rom, even if it is stock, install the TWRP, make a backup even of the cache.
Then take the file linked by me, and replace it in your backup.
should recognize it.
Data and sim work.

I don't know what version it is.
For the 4G version, it didn't make multiple versions.
If you go to the second post of the developer who created it, there is a version, while for the 3g model the V4 is mentioned
