Hi 2 all!
Before somebody claims - I read and searched the threads but I was not able to flash a new rom.
My envoirment:
Win 7 X86
HTC Desire (rooted)
8 GB Memory Card (I copied the new rom in the root directory and named it update.zip)
I tried rom manager (the non-paid version):
I don't know which menu (after my device rebooted) should I take?
applying sdcard update.zip?? (I selected this, bus no new rom..)
I also tried the fake flash method:
Error Message: signature verification failed.
Now, please can anyone tell me how to flash to a new rom?

Is your handset branded? What rom are you trying to flash. Have you rooted your device? Because it needs to be rooted to flash 99% of the roms available here.
..no, its not branded; its also rooted.
So what rom are you trying to flash? You should be able to flash one if your handset is rooted.
If you use fake flash don't rename it but put it on your sd card root. Then in the menu go to flash zip from sd then choose the rom. Just before you flash make sure to select wipe data, cache etc.
why did u rename the rom?...once in the custom recovery it should not matter what the rom is called...from the menu u just select flash zip from SD then select the rom from the list

Ok so that rom should be fine. Do not rename it.
Wiping cache/data etc will only wipe data form the handset. All your memory card will be still intact. Only repartitioning the card will wipe it so back up any data first if you ever plan on doing that.
If the error is signature verification failed, re-sign the ROM.

Okay these are the steps I took and put as simple as possible.Some steps may be skipped depending on if you have done them or not.These are written based off my setup and what i did.
Disclaimer:Me nor Tassadar or bigsupersquid are responsible for any damage done to your phone so use at your own risk.
Multirom Install:
1.Format through cwm your sd card to have an ext(Recommended 512 mb)
2.Download the two zips from bigsupersquid posted here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20626123#post20626123
3.Place them both onto your sd card.
4.Boot into cwm and flash the cwm zip you downloaded from squid's thread.
5.Now reboot your phone and then boot again into cwm(It should have blue text if it flashed correctly and the multirom option)
6.Now I highly recommend you make a backup of your current rom just in case anything goes wrong.(I made a copy of it onto my pc as well.)
7.Now flash the other zip titled "Multirom..." and wait for it to install.Now reboot to see if it boots.If boots then everything has been done correctly.
Rom on SD Card setup/install:
For this I have install on phone the latest build of cm for oV and will be using the same rom to setup on sd card just for test.
1.Now here Make another backup of your current rom through recovery(Will be used trust me)
2.Now flash the rom you want to use on sd card.(If using a 2.3 rom then the sd card crom msu also be 2.3 and vice versa for 2.2 roms).Reboot phone(a must so dalvik is created correctly).(Make sure to do the appropriate steps fro flash rom like wiping etc.)
3.Reboot back into recovery.Go to multirom and select "Create from current rom". (flash the multirom zip again if it says folder not found)(ROM on the sdcard is placed in /sd-ext/multirom/rom/).
4.After it finished you can go ahead and restore the backup you made in step 1. and the reboot after finished and wait until boot manager shows up.
5.Select boot from sd card and it should boot into the rom you chose to install to sd.(If it doesn't then you did one of the steps wrong).
6.That's it you now have multirom booting enjoy it !
MultiROM recovery menu description:
Active/deactive state is for recovery only, you can boot ROMs from backup in boot manager - that means its N-times boot rather than dual-boot.
When not active(boot from internal memory):
Activate (move from backup) - when you already have backup, this will move it to active folder (fast).
Activate (copy from backup) - same as above, but it copies it instead of moving
Create from current ROM - pretty self-explanatory
When active(boot from sdcard):
Deactivate (move to backup) - Moves current ROM to backup folder, so next boot will be from internal memory
Backup - Creates backup of current ROM
Erase current ROM - Deletes current rom, next boot will be from internal memory
Copy modules from int mem - Copies modules from ROM in internal memory to SDcard. Try this if WiFi does not work in SDcard ROM.

Well pros would be you can dual boot between roms.Cons would be not many different roms since most are based off cm7 lol
why would i want to switch on the go from roms? im not being a **** or anything just wondering why someone would want to do that.

Some just like the choice of having two different roms customized differently with different apps and such.

Plus you can partition a bigger space on your SD card giving you more room for apps
What is the likeliness this recovery will prevent you from flashing a different recovery.
There are a couple people trying to flash the rzrecovery and getting failed attempts.

If you flash the recovery image using flash_image while booted into android, I think it's safe to say just about zero.

Something was not working right because a couple people using the multi recovery couldnt get rzrecovery to install. Not sure if they got IHO installed or not. I have a feeling something is not allowing flash_image to work properly with that recovery.
I just wanted to see what the devs of this recovery thought.
Tetris from recovery is worth it by itself! havn't installed a second rom yet but this is cool anyways
Sorry I'm a bit of a noob with this stuff. What is S-off and how do I get my HTC One X to that state? (I'm trying to install Android Revolution HD)
My second question is, using clockworkmod, am I able to easily switch between ROMs (eg stock/ARHD)? Cheers
S-off means that the Security off the bootloader is unlocked
u can do this tru HTCdev
Select other supported models and follow the steps.
Some warranty can be void this way so make the choice
At the moment CWM is not ready for us yet
But Paulobrien is working hard and has a interim Solution

Don't worry about the 4EXT recovery, AFAIK it's not available yet for the One X (unless I've missed an announcement). Use paulobrien's custom recovery instead.
The reference to 4EXT is probably just text copied from one of Mike's other threads, I'm sure he'll tidy things up soon. Or maybe Max will release 4EXT Recovery for the One X and he won't need to.

I've unlocked my device and have flashed interim's clockworkmod so I'm on step 3 installing the firmware package from the link, only I don't seem to have a cid (see attached) - what should I do?
It also says to place the .zip files on the root of the SD card - what directory should I put it in on the One X?

Where you place the .zip of the rom is irrelevant as long as its on the sdcard partition you can navigate to it through the interim clockworkmod.
As for the firmware package thats not a question i can answer definitively. As i had a higher firmware number installed on the factory rom, i didnt install the reccomended package (after asking the question in the ARHD thread). All works fine for me
Just remember to take a back up of the stock rom before you start trying to flash roms.

Use connect drive...
open your windows file explorer ., there will be a new drive HTC Storage

The SD card partition is what you see when you open a file explorer on your device, or when you open it as a disk drive on a computer.
Easiest thing to do is to paste the ZIP file in question into the root directory of your device, i.e. just open the device on a computer and paste without navigating any further. It should contain a lot of folders and also a PDF of the user manual.
Then, when you're going to "install" the ZIP from "sd card" via recovery, it'll be at the bottom of the list -- no further navigation required.

All good mate.
To create a backup boot into clockworkmod then go to backup/restore > backup. This will create a nandroid backup which is saved in the clockwork mod folder in the sdcard partition.
Might not be exactly that wording but thats the jist of it.
Good morning. I registered in this forum some months back (don't remember when) when I was searching for some good ROMs for my GIO S5660.
I ultimately gave up because I couldn't find enough information about flashing (I think it was because the threads gave bad links to odin, or I could only find that specific odin version if I googled because the link's version were outdated/updated). Either way I gave up because smartphones and flashing were (and are) very new to me and I didn't want to risk bricking the phone (although I'm finishing my degree in Computer Science, so some concepts aren't alien to me).
I came back now, decided to find a STABLE and GOOD ROM, with the best battery life I can get. I usually check the screenshots thread and choose the ones that I like the most, normally CM9 or better. Problem is, I spent these past few hours on several of GIO sub-forums (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1404), searching and scavenging for something I could use or like. It's been very hard, almost all of them have some kind of major problem, like in-call microphone, wireless, deep sleep, something like that.
Am I chasing wild gooses here? Should I be looking instead at CM7 and earlier versions?
On a closing note, I still have 2.3.3 Portuguese version that came with the phone. Can I update safely through the phone's preferences? Main reason I am looking to flash is because of its battery life: if i charge it to 100%, then proceed to use any kind of program/game with the lowest light settings, it can drop to 50% in a matter of minutes. Its speed isn't that great as well.

The most stable rom currently for our gio is the Enhanced236. I really recommend you reading as much as you can before doing anything, both about android and flashing, but also basic XDA stuff. Read these "threads", and you're good to go! 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

Wait! You need a backup before continuing. :good: Since you doesn't have root or custom recovery, you can't use CWM to make a nandroid. One way to backup your stuff is to use a program called Ultimate Backup Tool. This program doesn't need root or custom recovery. It works on Windows, Mac and Linux. :highfive:
Now we can flash the custom rom! :laugh:
If you wanna install Enhanced236 (the most bugfree one), you need to install install cwm, Clock Work Mod, first. How to:
1. Make sure that you have fully charged your battery.
2. You need to download the ext4only 5.0.2.7 cwm version, here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421650.
3. After you have downloaded the zip, you go into recovery mode, in this case stock recovering. You do that by holding The Home Button + Power Button until the recovery gets visible.
4. Then you do click on the Apply update from sdcard, and select the cwm zip.

6. After you have done that, I recommend you to take a nandroid backup. The backup will be stored on your sdcard, so you can copy the backup to your computer if you want to, just in case.
Now you have installed CWM. Let's install the ROM!

This will erase everything you have done on your phone, so make sure that you have a backup ready! Leave it booting/waiting for like 5 min, and then start touching/configure the device. After doing the necessary configuring, wait another minute. And reboot. And then it's done! :victory:

You need a usb cable to transfer the roms and that kind of stuff. You can also use a micro SD reader if you want.
BTW I don't think you need to buy a new battery, you must calibrate it once a month or so. Calibrate it and see if that works!

Great tutorial,
Followed but flashed 5.0.2.7 (didn't find 5.0.2.0), and now the recovery seems to be only partially working.
I can boot to it, but if I press "flash zip" it only appears the cwm logo, any idea?

Sorry, typo. Meant 5.0.2.7. Fixed that now. When you click on something in cwm, like flash a zip, press the home button. Navigate up and down with the volume buttons.
Finally have the time to check it out.

I have it rooted, but I don't have my USB cable, just a microSD adapter. Any other way to do the backup? maybe some application in Play Store that backups into the sdCard?

Titanium backup is a very powerful program on the google play store. The pro version (I recommend you buying it, it's worth it) backup things like your apps + data + Market links. This includes all protected apps & system apps, plus external data on your SD card.
After you have installed CWM you can do a nandroid on your untouched system. You can always restore the nandroid if you don't like your new costum rom or if the installation crashes and "lite" bricks your phone.

Let me see if I understood:
1) Backup
This can be made before everything else, through Titanium backup (backs up my data into the sd card (probably in just one file that can be read after)), Ultimate Backup Tool (is installed in the computer, needs USB cable) or other similar programs
OR
Can also be made after CWM is installed, through something called "nandroid" <-(I read the pages you linked in this thread and didn't notice this name/concept, so I was confused)

This here is where it started to get confusing to me; until I read several times your post, I thought that "apply update from sdcard" would actively install that zip, erasing everything else. What must happen instead is that, that zip installs the app inside, that will allow me to backup and format next.

This is where I can make the nandroid backup (as said previously, this got me confused because I thought that at this point the phone was already "empty", formatted)

Did I miss anything? If not and this is it, where is the risk in softbricking or hardbricking the phone? (yes, I'm actually scared, since this is my first time and I'm a noob at it, and I can't really risk screwing my smartphone, only in three months will I be able to replace it if anything happens)

Did I miss anything? If not and this is it, where is the risk in softbricking or hardbricking the phone? (yes, I'm actually scared, since this is my first time and I'm a noob at it, and I can't really risk screwing my smartphone, only in three months will I be able to replace it if anything happens)

When you install CWM your phone will not be completely wiped. Only the recovery "partition" will be replaced with CWM instead of the almost useless stock recovery. Here's some info about nandroid. 1.. The Ultimate Backup Tool/Titanium backup was just if the cwm installation goes wrong and and "soft" bricks your phone. This will most likely not happen. Note that there is several methods to unbrick the gio if this happens, so be calm! lol

Yeah, hehe.
About titanium backup, how does it work exactly? Does it need a working ROM (preferably the same type as the backup was made on) so it can restore what was previously backed up? Or is like nandroid, it can be restored via CWM?
I read your link about nandroid; it seems pretty easy to grasp: recovery mode and restore backup. What about Titanium backup? It seems to me it is unable to backup the entire phone (it would also make sense since it runs on Android)

Titanium backup only backups your user-data, which means that it doesn't backup your kernel, libs and stuff like that. If something happens while you install cwm (you accidentally drops your phone and the battery flies away and soft bricks your phone) you still have your contacts, levels cleard on angrybrids and stuff like that.

Ohh... Sorry. You have installed the ext4only version. The stock rom uses rfs. Try install CWM signed_cwm-5.0.2.7-flashablezip-ext4+rfs.zip and then do a bakcup and then install ext4only, the costum rom uses ext4. And no, ext4 + rfs doesn't work that good with ext4.

So... when I'm at the cwm ext4only recovery mode and select apply update from the sdcard, it shows me a buttload of "no" options and only one "Yes - Install /sdcard/update.zip."

Navigate with your volume buttons down to Yes - Install Bla bla and press the home button to confirm.

Hello,
I got myself a nice 7.9 inch Android 4.2.2 Tablet [16Gb].
This is a new tablet so no rom/mod information about it so I decided to put few things together.
I messed up my Modem/Radio trying to make CMW mod recovery but got lucky and found a Chinese forum with a stock rom.
That gave me confidence to mod like hell till I got myself a working CWM Recovery

Warning! use this guide at your own risk.
Root Guide:
Just download Framaroot apk and run it! It will ask you to reboot and that’s it...You are Rooted!.
CWM Mod Recovery Guide:
Download the G18mini Recovery and flash with MobileUncle.apk
Place the .img in the root of SD then launch the app and click update recovery. Tablet will then reboot into CWM . Do a full nandroid back up!! You will need it in the future or if you want to partition.
Or Flash with SP Flash tool (can find easily on XDA and included in full firmware DL)
Partition /data for more storage Guide:
This tablet only has 1GB for apps which is lame!
Make sure you have Nandroid Backup before doing this and copy the backup to external SD (required)!!! or use Rom manager to backup to external SD!
Install meteos-mtk6589-rom-edit-8gb-16gb-en APK
Run it and click the 4GB and follow the instructions and reboot into recovery.
Wipe/reset then do an Nandroid restore from external SD
It will show failed to restore SDCARD but don’t worry, boot into the tablet and format/erase internal (Flash storage)
Turn off the tablet then hold volume up and power to boot recovery. Do a full nandroid restore again from external SD…DONE!
You will now have 3.9GB for apps and 9.7GB internal storage!
Restore to Factory:
Stock Firmware DL has a PDF in chinese but screenshots should be enough to restore the tablet top factory stock (it uses SP Flash)

Hello guys, I'm new at breaking into Android devices, and it seems I messed up when trying to follow this Guide and Mod.
Somehow I didn't do this step:

After root i performed the partition. And whiped data. So it seems that all data is erased, I manage to come to the recovery menu. When i afterwards manually copied the G18mini Recovery.img file to the root of my sd-card, and tried to boot find the update, it says no SD card can be found...
one option it gave was to adb sideload data into the tablet. Tried that, but did not know what data i should sideload into it. It seems it need a file.zip.
Somebody asked for the firmware, i found the original firmware from modecom dot eu -> support -> download -> tablets
I tried also to istall that, but did not succeed. It seems the drivers won't load into my windows 8.1 computer.
Any suggestion how to proceed? Can i get the original firmware installed by using Android SDK Manager? I hope I'll be able to save the tablet...

Me cannot restore from sdcard either. Does it mean that one should erase sdcard while in recovery mode? I did that, but the externat sd card won't still work.
