Restore my DHD to Stock - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Currently I have a rooted DHD, with RADIO S OFF, and running a gingerbread build.
I am curious as to how I would go back to fully stock? Like how I bought it with no traces of any messing around with it.
Nothing happened to my phone and I love my rooted device, just wondering in case I want to sell it or if I need to bring it in for physical damages.
Thanks!

Download the wwe ruu and run it, that will flash the phone back to stock.

Do you know where i can get this from?

Although if you want to get back to 100% stock you will also need to reverse radio s-off. You do have your partition 7 backup safe I hope.

How do you restore the partition 7 backup?

Good question I need to know the same thing.

With Clockwork recovery 3.x, although slightly flaky at the moment so you first need to reflash your gingerbread rom, then boot into recovery, go to backup / restore and use advanced option to restore /data

So just to make this clear.
1. Flash RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.3_R_Radio_12.28e.60.140f_ 26.04.02.17_M2_release_161342_signed
2. Boot into recovery and restore the partition 7 backup?
3. Everything back to normal?
What about S-OFF and Radio S-OFF?

Flashing the RUU will deal with S-OFF as it will replace the bootloader, radio S-OFF you would need to revert yourself, the RUU will also replace the recovery partition with stock so simplest thing would be to backup apps and data with Titanium (also backup sms with sms backup or similar) flash RUU then boot into ROM set up all the google stuff then install Titanium again and restore apps and data, you will not be able to restore system data without introducing some instability in the system though.
I believe dr.mox was suggesting you backup the cm7 partition should you wish to come back to gingerbread.

No I mean if you want to go back to 100% stock including removing radio s-off, you will need the partition 7 backup which the easy radio off tool generates. The easy tool also removes s-off but you need the backup.

That why I love this forum, you learn something new every day, wondering what the files would be used for, will keep them safe.
Cheers

My SD card managed to go BOOM before i got to copy a backup of my P7 files,
will this make it impossible for me to get back to radio s-on if i would choose to?

Maybe this could help you get Radio S-on

I'm sending my phone in to warrant repair tomrorow, I'm with orange got the phone about a week ago.
I'm going to flash the stock rom from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846248
its an RUU, after that i will use visionary to temp root and then set radio to s-on with that tool i linked above. After all that i will hardreset and keep the micro sd card. Will they know that i rooted/s-off my phone? Anything else i should look into doing?

[Q] Going back to stock rom - questions

I rooted my desire with unrevoked a while back, used alpharev to get s-off then flashed oxygen rom with data2ext then added on top.
I want to go back to the stock rom, for which I have a nandroid backup taken after originally rooting. Can I simply use clockwork recovery to restore? Will I still have s-off and can I reflash data2ext back on top of the restored backup?
First you need to change back to the bravo 1.5 partition layout. Then you should be able to restore the nandroid, you won't lose S-off. No idea if data2whatever is gone work.
Technically you don't have to change the MTD as this will be reset when you flash the RUU. Best to do it in case, though

The way I read his post he does not want to run a RUU but just nandroid back to a stock rom. Then you do need to change back other wise the nandroid won't fit.

Thanks for your comments so far - can you explain (or give me a suitable link) that explains what I need to do to 'change back'?
Never mind,I thought you flashed the oxygen hboot, which you didn't. You can just restore the nandroid.

Complete backup and restore process

I want to mess about with roms and ruus a bit this afternoon but want to be able to restore back to the phones current state afterwards.
Phone is Rooted, S-off, Amon-ra, Oxygen 2.1.2 using ext3
I have a spare SD card so I can pull the one that is in there at the moment to preserve its contents and use a second for testing.
I'm intending to flash a RUU to go back to stock unrooted s-on - mostly out of curiosity.
What backups will i need to ensure that at the end of my testing I can restore to oxygen with my currently installed setup, apps and data intact.
I also assume I'll need to re-root and s-off.
If u make a backup n then flash a ruu u will need to root ur device n s off again else ur backup will not work hope this helps
But u can just make a Android backup in recovery

Yea, take a NANDroid back up before this whole process. Once you flash the RUU you will lose root and s-off. You'll need to re-root and s-off (if you want that) then you can just flash the backup from recovery. Though make sure you're restoring the backup with the same Recovery version that you created it with.

[Q] How to restore stock Recovery?

I have Clockwork recovery, and was wondering how to go back to stock recovery if ever needed (such as sending for repair).
Will the RUU remove Clockwork recovery and replace it with the HTC recovery?
Thanks
Yes indeed it will.
Great thanks, just needed to clear that up in advance lol
RUU does not remove Eng S-OFF and Radio S-OFF, right?

Thanks but incorrect
I used RUU to restore my phone back to original state, but it still had S-OFF

[Q] S-Off then nandroid restore

I want to S-off my Desire using revolutionary.io. I see you need a later HBOOT than I have (0.80) so I intend to upgrade it using an RUU then use revolutionary to S-off it.
So, that I don't have to mess around restoring all my apps and settings can I do a nandroid backup of my current configuration, then use the RUU to upgrade and wipe it, use revolutionary to s-off it, then restore the nandroid backup to get my system back?
Essentially what I want is the system I have now, but with S-off, and am hoping nandroid can make the process quicker.
Thanks for any help.
Ta.
If you have an old hboot, try and check http://alpharev.nl
That way you can S-Off without doing the RUU stuff.

Cheers! I might do that. Is that as safe as revolutionary? It seems there are a lot more warnings on that site about bricking your phone...
Well without alpharev, there wouldn't be revolutionary
Yes it has full of warnings as this procedure can brick your device. If you are using a ROM with any data2sd or any scripts for moving system and app files to SD then there is also a warning for that.
They say that this procedure will take time specially if you already have a lot of apps installed. And sometimes people get impatient and reboot during the process bricking their phones.
Long time ago when I used this, I did a nandbackup of my current rom, then flashed a fresh Cyanogenmod rom then used alpharev to s-off. It just took me around 10mins or so since there were basically minimal apps installed. Once s-oo procedure is complete, I just did a nand restore afterwards.

That seems like a good idea. I'll give that a go. Cheers.

[Q] Installing Android Revolution HD 19.2

Just wondering if it's okay for me to flash, I'm hoping it will be.
I've unlocked my bootloader and pushed SuperSU to my phone, so now I want to flash a ROM and Android Revolution HD looks pretty popular.
In my bootloader my HBOOT is 1.39.0000 and my CID is H3G_001
Just wondering because I'm not sure about HBOOTs and CIDs, but if all is fine I'll go ahead and flash
Thanks!
Your hboot is new enough. All systems green!!!

Also quickly, I've just done a backup in CWM and when viewing the files, I've got .android_secure, cache_ext4, data_ext4, system_ext4, recovery.img and boot.img
Is that a nandroid backup to allow me to revert to stock?
Yes
!! Important !!
Do make a nandroid backup before flashing, cause it will be hard to go back to stock without a leaked RUU.
