Hello,
I just received my HTC Desire, i'm quite happy, he's very nice !
I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade it CM6.
I'm already using a HTC Magic and I really like the battery life in CM6.
I made a picture of the software settings inside so you can see the version i'm running.

Thanks for your help !
Yes, you can root. I had the exact same version when i rooted.
Use this method: http://android.modaco.com/content/h...e-now-with-hboot-0-80-and-os-to-1-21-support/
Its really easy, just read it carefully and ask any questions if you need.
Good luck
Thanks
I just created the goldcard, now let's see next...
After reading alot of threads and post, I think I'll stay with the stock rom.
It seems that there is no way to backup actual rom and also, no way to have led working.
It seems that CM6 is not yet ready for Bravo(htc desire), so I'll wait for something fully working...

I have everything working with a modified version of DJ DROID, including leds.
You cant backup you current "pre-root" rom because to FULLY backup your rom, you need root. But you can backup contacts, SMS, etc with My Backup Pro, its a 1-time operation.
The roms based on the HTC froyo leak, aka v2.04 + nem radio v5.x are usually pretty fast and stable. Also, current MoDaCo r4 is shaping really well.
What we're still missing is a fast, stable, no bull****, no SENSE, AOSP rom. We have some good ones (like OpenDesire) but they're not exactly there yet. Cyanogen will be great too, if it goes well.
My advice is to root and go with DJ DROID or some other rom based on the HTC leak, they're VERY fast. I cant go back to android v2.1 now that im used to 2.2.

It seems that DJ Droid is very sexy indead
But as you said, I found Sense very nice, but I prefer my stock applications.
My best desktop is CyanogenMod 6 (Android 2.2) when it will be done (but the RC1 is really stable, I use it every day on my Magic), LauncherPro and that's it.
Nothing more, nothing less
Here on the phone, I've installed LauncherPro, removed Sense, and it's already a bit better.
I miss the PicasaSync ! But I love the Dialer, so much more faster and nice than the stock one !
Hi there.
I would like to know which official based 2.2 ROM you are using. There are so many to choose from with many different options. So it would be nice to map all those users.

So cast your vote. I'll update the thread and poll with new ROMs when they arrive.
I'm using Pinky. No problems and I can install the notes widget onto it. Plus, I've heard the blue led works with it

OP, you're missing neophyte rom v1.4 (2.06 based)

Still using Pays v1.1, eagarly waiting for the official OTA 2.2 update.
Yes I realized that. Now I'm looking for an option on how to edit the poll...
Using ROM by ieftm, eagerly awaiting a sense rom with stock dailer and contacts.
I really like nickerberli's ROM. It's just like stock, but with root and busybox. Perfect! I like to add modifications myself, so I think this is the best and cleanest ROM out there.
Great work!
It looks like most of those are just rooted.
Some missing system apps, but they are pretty much all identical.
Pretty pointless

Which makes me wonder how some can have more bugs or perform better than others.

For now
I'm wait for LeeDrOiD Mod 1.7
Using the 2.2 based ROM from @nickerberli atm, seems to be working fine so far.
I'm still on Neophyte 1.4a which is vastly different to his other rom. You need to add this to the poll

Well, surely if they make one unbranded, clean rom, having all developers contribute to it creating a community rom.
This would be easier for me to find a standard rooted 2.2 without bloatware. Especially at such an early stage of releasing 2.2 sense where all the roms are near enough the same. Cant wait for the MCR kitchen tbh, so all this rant is mainly out of frustration.
But a community kitchen, where u can select different features of different roms would be nice, such as the brilliant cyanogen features of the non sense froyo ontop of something like defrost, which just...works (amazing well)
The title contains the word "official" so there should be only ROMs released after 01.08.2010 and based on 2.09 in the list.
2.06 was not "official" as far as I know.
If I am wrong, then why is LeeDroid not on that list?
It's my favourite and according to this poll one of the most popular.
trying ... NexTSense_2.0a_Official_OTA_2.2_FRF91_by_NeoPhyTe_without_radio.zip
tried ...DanneJo_rom_v1-Orginal_HTC_2.2_Sense.zip
I use #1 atm and it's great. I will most likely go back to the great neophyte once there's an 2.2 official (2.09) version out.

I know, such a question is asked every day but since the froyo OTA was released many roms changed completly and many new roms were created, too.
Unfortunally I dont have the time to test all of them, so I just wanted to ask for your suggestions
Which froyo-sense-rom do you use and is it worth flashing?
I have to say that I really haven't used any other custom ROM, but I've stuck with LeeDroid too. I'm currently using 1.6a as it has been perfectly stable with lots of nice apps not included in other ROM's. I love it also because it's updated almost daily. I'm still using 1.6a since 1.7 is based on the official HTC Froyo ROM and it's not as stable yet. I'm waiting until it's as flawless as 1.6a and upgrading then
on stock froyo 2.2 rooted (hboot .80) cause I can't be flashing custom roms for fixes daily. Need a stable (doesn't have be super speedy) rom with froyo and rooted for everyday use!

Exactly the same for me atm - would like to have a daily useable rom which is built from the ota. Maybe I will give 1.7b a try
From the beginning I've only wanted root access with the stock HTC ROMs as my daily use. I rarely flash additions and whatever I do is for long term use. I don't have time for problems and fussing around with new variables, bugs and shortcomings. Stock MFG ROM releases generally have excellency in stability, consistency, integrity and reliability which is exactly what I'm after. So I'm using the rooted HTC 2.2 ROM. Every mod or hack I needed is working on it. Battery life is still excellent. I couldn't be happier.

im using nextsence, i usually prefer stock roms over custom roms but this one is sweet, its like the stock rom but with a cool theme
I'm currently using the LeeDroid 1.7 Froyo ROM. Its working a treat for me at the moment, not crashes or stability issues, my only concern is that when having to reflash ROM's all the time that I will keep losing my apps. Though i'm told this is not the case if you use A2SD/A2SD+
I tried flashing 1.7b, but got no APN and couldnt add them manually. So i switched back to 1.6a

I used to have CM on my g1 too for long time...
I really love the sense widgets - and I can't find good replacements for them in the market
Only one choice imo if you want a stable & fast Froyo Sense. Neophyte 1.6.
Seriously - I've tried nearly every Rom including LeeDroid and this one is so much better than all of them.
atm I'm using Leedroid 1.8.
Really stable Rom - didnt see any bugs yet...
Hello, noob here, so be gentle. I want to install gingerbread on my desire but not sure which one to go for. What's the best one Oxygen 2.0 RC7, cyanogenmod cm7, etc.
Also one thing I'm not sure, when I go to the page of roms for the desire and click on the Gingerbread roms I'm given a list of different rom so I though I think Oxygen 2.0 might be the best so I might try this one but then I go to another page and it's about the rom and the download link is there but I have two options and not sure if I need to download only the first one (Oxygen 2.0 - RC7) cause below I also have this link to download Oxygen v1.0.4 (Froyo stable).
So do I download the first only, or both or oxygen v.1.0.4 only ?
And do i need to bother with any other files like radio, gapps...
I'm running 2.2 vodafone
Thank a lot for any advice.
What you like best is up to you.
Oxygen comes with Gapps, on Cyanogenmod you have to flash them yourself. If you go for Oxygen just download RC7, not the old froyo one, and flash it. No real need to change the radio but if you want you can change to the recommended one.
oh, i get it now. Yeah, will try oxygen as i want gapps. Exciting... Thanks a lot
Try Cm7 Its really getting stable by the day.. and it does not stop at rc7
I've had GingerVillain for a couple of weeks and I'd recommend looking at this too. Video camera working (although not yet at 720p), everything else works fine (wifi, gps, bluetooth). Included are lots of the cyanogenmod tweaks as well.
Very stable and runs well with eViollets 'battery efficient' kernel for longer battery life.
Personally I'd do some more reading up first on these.
Anything AOSP based is going to have boot-loop issues, video cameras are hacks at best etc.
I'm still running oxygen (latest test build) but it doesn't come without it's warnings.
Next couple of weeks should see the N1 OTA update and some fairly significant progress in GB for desire.
Excuse my ignorance but what is asop based ?
I also read somewhere that froyo is the last update for the desire. No more...
AOSP = Android Open Source Project...that's what all of these custom ROMs (CM7, Oxygen, etc.) are built on.
FroYo may be the last official update but, as you can see, the AOSP devs have Gingerbread running on it so you will see support for the Desire as long as the hardware supports it.
I am interested in upgrading Mrs Dutchship's Green-eyed Defy as it has begun to occasionally misbehave. It has remained on the original UK 2.1 ROM since new around 13 months ago and needs a refresh.
The main criteria for a new ROM (in order of importance):
1. Stable / Reliable
2. Familiar (Moto style ROM with that Blur rubbish (although the Social Networking stuff is not used))
3. Needs Swype (is it possible to add this to any ROM?)
4. Not rubbish battery life (undervoltable would be great)
5. Easy install with no ongoing support required (for me)
I think the options are to either factory reset the current ROM, update it to a factory 2.2 ROM, to a dejunked Motorola 2.2 ROM (if they exist), or try a wholly custom ROM (CM7, despite looking at first glance to not be 100% reliable?)
If anybody could recommend any of these it'd be most helpful. Based on my experience with a Desire HD I'd go for a tidied up / improved stock ROM if possible, but would be happy to hear other suggestions.
Thanks in advance, and apologies for Yet another What ROM thread!

There are a few options available too you really.
1. Just perform the upgrade to the latest 2.2.2 defy froyo rom doing this will keep all the motoblur features.
2. CM7 Is a great aosp rom which is highly customizable i use it on all my handsets light, fast and stable. But no motoblur.
3. You can use a fixed sbf to goto 2.3.6 gingerbread with moto blur, and use the greenbread mod for camera fix, the reason i say use a fixed sbf is so you can downgarde back to 2.2 incase you dont like it, whatever you do, dont flash a full gingerbread sbf as you wont be able to downgrade.
4. Try one of the many custom roms in the dev section but i cannot give you any input on these as i only use cm7.
