Have run into a major problem i think, need some of you experts to help me out on this one...all my ideas have failed.
I have been using cmod 6.0.1 for a while now, remember I had some problems to add gapps to that rom, and now the problem is reversed...
No matter how much i whipe/clean/clear I can't get rid of market, facebook, twitter, car home and probably some other app i don't remember right out of my head.
I have entered clockwork, I made a factory reset, cleared cache, and then the part that got my attention. When I press the trackball on option "wipe dalvik cache" (the title, before i press yes) i get this message:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
(File exists)
Although this it says Dalvik has been cleared successfully when I have pressed OK to clear.
I recon this might be the problem, but I'm far from certain, I'm still a noob in the progress of learning.
After all this, I have managed to successfully flash cmod 6.1.1, which I at first thought he added some gapps despite Googles opinion about that. Did not fins _any_ parts of those gapps in the rom-package.
Went forward to flash cmod 6.0.1 which I KNOW don't contain there apps (cus I had big problems adding them on that rom in the beginning).
Now I ask you far more learned guys, what can be wrong, and how could I solve this? All i can think of, is that IF they somehow managed to get their way onto a recovery-partition of the phone, but i really don't know...just wild guessing.
On the even more weird side, those gapps is installed onto the regular path "root/system/apps"
I really cant find anything that could put them there, nor find any reference to those .apk-files to even install them in the first place.
Running a GSM Desire.
EDIT: Have read a bit more about the mmcblk0p2-thing, and wow, i have no idea of how to get myself out of that. Most solutions seems to be trough ADB (if im even on the right track?), and I were not at all familiar with linux of any kind before this phone. I am a quick learner, but that doesn't solve what I have yet to learn.
I somehow managed to clear out hose apps, but the thing with dalvik remains (the "file already exists"-thing).
Now im just looking for someone who can tell what could have been the problem, and if the dalvik-thing is normal behavior? I dont have partioned anything nor running any app2sd other than stock.
Could that be it, that theres no extra dalvik-cache on a user-created partition?
...I dunno, just pulling strings here right now.
I believe it's just a message that it can't find a second partition on your SD card, which makes sense since you haven't partitioned it. Shouldn't make any difference.

Hello everyone.
I've recently switched to the Data++ Hboot with 10MB cache. Ever since then I haven't been able to download large apps from the Market.
I was wondering how to make the Market save the APK's on the SD Card instead of the cache partition. If I remember correctly this has been implemented in a number of ROMs, including the Oxygen ROM to name one. Where would I change that?
Sorry for deviating from the topic, but I have this strong urge to ask you this: How did you get 10MB cache with Data++? According to alpharev.nl, Data++ gives 5MB cache....
On a side note, I also have 10MB cache but my apps are installing fine (with a little help from A2SD).....how big are the apps you're trying to download? Maybe I haven't come across "big" ones yet...

Oh I see they've updated their website. I'm using an older version of Data++ (System 180M, Cache 10M, Data 261M). I still have the img plus a screenshot of the website to compare MD5, if you're interested.
Well, it was just a guess. Downloads to Angry Birds (both versions) and Rocket Bunnies are not working, to name a few. Since they're all over 10MB I assumed it was due to the smaller cache partition. I'm also using A2SD btw.
Hmmm, they are not too big then (was expecting 20+MB).....I just downloaded those two apps couple of hours ago on my one and it's running fine even though I've only got 10MB cache.
Normally you'd need a file manager (like the one with Titanium backup or root explorer) to do the job of moving .apk files to SD..these are normally stored in /data/app inside the internal memory and requires root access to get them...but the files must be downloaded in the first place.
Is your system up-to-date? I too had similar problems until I did a complete flash-over and updated everything.... unfortunately I didn't work out the cause of it

Oh I see, I was under the impression the apks get saved on the cache partition. In that case, I should look for the problem elsewhere. Yes, I'm running the latest Sense ROM (2.29 with the 5 ending), but modified to suit my needs. I guess it could be related to that.
More info about the 'non-downloading'. When I click on install in the Market, the download icon appears quickly in the notification bar and then quickly disappears. Was this the same problem you were having?
In short....yes...that was the main sympton I had....the download icon disappears quickly....and it only happened to some of the apps
Have you tried rebooting the phone?...

Yes, tried that. Also tried clearing the dalvik cache and cache but with no success. I have found this while looking for a solution on Google. Seems someone else is having the exact same problem.

Hmm, yea. The thing that's really frustrating is I still don't know what the problem was in my case..if I did I could've been a little bit more helpful. In my "rage" I just flashed a new kernel and a new ROM and that sorted out the problem for me....didn't stop to wonder what was actually causing it.
EDIT: I think changing the kernel, especially, did it for me...
Hmm…
I have the same problem (except my /cache is 3MB so I can't download files larger than that).
Funny though, it used to work just fine (I have Angry Birds and flash for example), it has only recently started to act up.
If anyone finds a solution (possibly without flashing), I'll be quite grateful
P.S.
When my download fails (downloading icon simply disappears), my logcat shows DownloadManager reporting that there is not enough space (with about 60MB on /data) and then Vending complains about the file not being found (because DownloadManager didn't download it).
Seems like a bug in DownloadManager to me. It probably doesn't look up the cache (mine is in /data/cache IIRC) but uses the free space on /cache to determine if there is enough to fit the .apk.
I'm now working on same think. Need to Market downloading apps to SD card instead of /cache. So is there any tweak for this?
Yep.
Requires a little bit of knowledge about how linux handles mount points.
Basically, the easiest way is to bind mount a folder on the sdcard/data to /cache.
I get this .. I just clear the market cache ... go back into the market , all fine .
I normally have to " download " stuff 3 times , before it installs.
Hi guys,
I could not find the exact same problem anywhere else, so here we go:
I have been running on [STOPPED][ROM ICS 15 Jul] slim rom for Desire [based on Sandvold .15 & K900 build 40] successfully for some months with only slight problems. One of those being an occasional (hot) reboot out of the blue. Recently, without any particular trigger, I encountered a bootloop on one such occasion. When I removed the SD card, I was able to boot, but obviously had no data and apps did not start, so I had to reset some things.
Since then, I made a lot of full wipes in 4ext recovery, formatted and re-partitioned my SD card, even tried out another SD card, and installed several different ICS ROMs, e.g. Sandvold or AOKP. The systems always work in the beginning - I can boot and set up my stuff. At some point afterwards, I get into a bootloop again on the next reboot I make. I can always enter recovery without problems, though.
[edit: Additionally, removing the SD card now does not help anymore: bootloops seem definite]
I have not been able to completely narrow down a possible trigger. However, I noticed that without setting up my Google Account, I seem to be able to keep the phone running & booting for days. If I do enter google data, I at some point get the bootloop, whether I check the "sync/save my phone via google" or not (though not immediately after entering the account - it seems to take some time - some corrupt data to be synched perhaps?). Obviously, I am not keen on starting a new google account and losing all my apps and data, and running the phone without google at all is, let's just say, limited. I do not really see how a bootloop can be caused by some data that is coming in via google, but it comes up with an annoying certainty.
One last thing: the 4ext app currently pops up a news window regarding bootloops on some users' devices, but their recommended solution is to check in superuser whether the su binary is up-to-date. Unfortunately, it seems to be (3.1.1).
So if anybody out there has seen something like this or some suggestions as to narrow down the problem, I would much appreciate it!
Thanks in advance and best wishes from Germany!
This might be related to the google play store updating to the latest version. It is known to cause a boot loop on every restart for some ICS ROMs. Try this if it helps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ostcount=16742
Thanks so much for pointing me in this direction!
Although your link seems to be broken, it gave me the correct idea on what to search for.
I followed steps that are discussed in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1944766 as well as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355660&page=1661 and seem to be finally bootloop-free again even after setting up all my stuff!
For people who might need to follow the procedure, I did the following things:
Full Wipe
Install Sandvold ROM
Download modded Play Store APK file called: Vending-3.8.15.noupdate.norestrictions
Rename APK to "Vending.apk" and push to sdcard
Mount data, system, sdcard in Recovery
Enter "adb shell"
cd /system/app
rm Vending.apk
cd /data/app (might also be /data/data or something)
rm -r com.android.vending
rm -r com.android.vending.updater
cp /sdcard/Vending.apk /system/app/
(Dalvik wipe if ROM is not a fresh install)
Boot Up
Glad it worked for you. I followed almost the same steps myself. Unfortunately this happened to me while I was travelling and I was stranded with a brick for a week.
P.S: No idea why the link got eaten up...
Hello!
Background:
I flashed aokp_maguro_jb-mr1_build-3 yesterday and everything worked fine until I wanted to change kernel to a franco one. I already had the fraco.kernel updater free installed so I figured I'd just download and flash it automaticly. though somehow it downloaded and flashed an older version (milestone4 I think) so after I rebooted it got stuck at "Google".
I tried rebooting a few times and changed to a kernel.zip I had on the phone from earlier (not the one that came with the original aokp) and the phone got stuck at "starting apps" after the upgrading android sequence.
Anyhow I then read up on some stuff on how to push a proper kernel and pushed the newest nightly franco(r364) through adb.
The actual problem:
So I now had a phone that booted properly again! Only problem was that somewhere along the line something happened and now non of my apps have access to the storage..
If I use my phone explorer total commander I can access the file system root but under /storage there's only a file that takes 0B that's called "sdcard0". All the stuff I had on my sdcard is still under /data/media/0/. There's also the /data/media/legacy and /data/media/obb.
Something to note is that I can still use clockwork recovery as normal and access the sdcard through /sdcard/0/.
What I'm wondering now is what my next course of action should be. I read that some people with similar problems didn't get it fixed through a simple wipe/reflash so I figured I'd ask the pros here first before I do something more stupid..
If something is unclear, feel free to ask and I'll try to rephrase it or explain it further.
Thank you for your time!
Update: Grew tired and factoryreset/wipe + dalvik wipe and reflash seems to have sorted the issue. rebooted a few times and changed kernel to the same franco nightly as before and I still don't get the problem again.
although my stuff seems to be mirrored to a few places now including in storage where I'm used to be seeing the stuff (storage/0) but also under legacy and in root where there's a new folder called "sdcard". But I'm guessing this is normal with 4.2.
I"m not sure if my phone is messed up or not. It seems to be working right, but when I run Android Tuner and optimize the apps, they all force close and will not operate any longer. The same thing happened when I went into recovery to make a nandroid. After it was done, I wiped dalvik cache and when it rebooted many of my apps won't operate. Looking at them with ROM Toolboox I can see all the app icons diappeared and are left with just the technical name of the app ( Ex... com.liberty.toolbox-1.apk) instead of the market icon and the more common name used. Part of it is getting chopped off. This has never been a problem before this week. Does anyone have an idea of what is wrong with my phone? I'm a noob, but I've got the basics down. Help me if you read this... Please.

What ROM are you running? Are you running a2sd?
With certain ROMs, I had the same issue (though more often when running a class 10 sd card then a class 2 card).. Basically the "fix" was to reboot into recovery, wipe cache/dalvik again, and then reboot. Every time I rebooted the phone, I would have to reboot twice. What is happening is that the phone is missing the step where it has to mount /sd-ext so your apps are no longer there, but the data is. So you can see the names in things like ROM toolbox, because it sees them in /data, but the apps don't exist because /sd-ext isn't mounted.
I'm having some internal memory issues. I know my internal folders are jacked up. I'm not sure how the file system works. Is it basically a blank canvas that the recovery builds folder by folder, OR does the phone retain the file system and the recovery just fills in the empty folders? Can somebody tell me how this works please? If anyone knows a link to the Evo 4G file system, please post it. Every place I look, the file no longer existed, or has been removed.

How big is your sdcard? That is showing a 28 GB SD card with no ext partition. Did you ever partition it?

Yeah, it was partitioned. I fixed it just a few minutes ago. Man...it was the vold.fstat files that were all jacked up. I fixed it by unrooting it and flashing a completely stock image. Now I'm about to unroot it again and I'll be good to go. Thanks for even taking the time to read my post. In a relative ghost town of Evo4Gville that means a lot to me. Thanks brother. If you were curious, I have another thread called Storage issue problems, or something like that. The last post there outlines my problems. Thanks again for your input.
Hello fellow herculians!
Well, first of all let me begin by stating that I've asked the very same question in another thread (sulltanxda's CM12 build), but this is such a strange problem (I've been googling for way to long and haven't found anything I could use) that I'd like to gather as much help as I can, and I doubt this is a problem privative to Sultan's build.. If some moderator happens to read this, I deeply apologize in advance, in case this is judged inappropiate- I hope not.
Thing is: I'm facing a VERY strange issue with my phone, after trying Sultan's CM12 rom. I /think I/ succesfully performed the virtual repartitioning needed for newer builds. It feels great, but rebooted randonmly and, since it's been discontinued, I thought I'd better change to a more stable rom. When performing the undoing of the virtual repartitioning, I encountered an error, but I can't recall exactly what it was, I didn't pay much attention since the rest of the procedure did ok, and I succesfully had official CM11 running afterwards.
To make it short, something in the file structure, or partitions, or whatever broke, and I'm now unable to flash new roms other than stock, and I'm seeing some other symptoms:
TWRP cannot acces external sd cards nor the internal memory!
When I click on INSTALL and then STORAGE, I can't see anything to browse through nor folder or drive to choose (below, the structure of the folders I can access is like this: "/" and then folders from "boot" to "TWRP")
Under the WIPE option, if I try to factory-reset it doesn't work, and I get this error: "E:Mount: Unable to find partition for path '/cache .../system .../data", "E: Unable to locate storage partition for path...", "E: Invalid block device..." and a lot of stuff of that sort.
The advanced wipe ONLY shows the dalvik cache and it doesn't work either
The repair or change file system gives me "Invalid partition selection"
When I select "Software update" in the "about phone" section, a message appears stating "no firmware"
I tried flashing CWM recovery, but it doesn't even boot. I tried flashing a pit file I found somewhere. I tried flashing two stocks rom, reverting everything back to stock as much as I can, no luck either. Every time I flash TWRP, I find exactly the same limitations
So please! Anyone caring to shed some light??
