Try a battery pull, and before you put the battery in, hold vol. down and power buttons down. Put the battery back in and keep holding those 2 keys. If you get the white HBOOT screen, it's probably not a hardware thing, but something with CM on your phone. Try another ROM if you can get into recovery through HBOOT.

Thanks I did the battery pull and got the h boot screen but the thing is I also flashed cm 7 and same problem, any idea? Thank you for the quick response

Well, are you dead set on using an AOSP ROM? If so, try ShadowROM from ROM Manager. If not, try a Sense ROM like Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo or Uber Z. Both are very fast, and have a lot of goodies in them (Uber Z has the new Sense interface, an updated music app, themes support, hibernate, etc. and Warm TwoPointTwo has Evo framework for Evo themes and excellent battery life on the stock kernel)
Back up your data/apps and try one of those Sense ROMs, maybe?

Will do thanx

When you press the power button, do you actually feel the "click" of pushing the button, or does it just feel soft and mushy?

Our DINC has a safe mode??

I just found out our device has a safe mode
I was having a boot loop so to get out of it I do the three finger salute well.... I forgot to hit the track pad in time and my incredible booted instead, so now it says safe mode in the bottom left and runs fine
Oh BTW I'm running the desire z port
So what would be the use if this?

It's true... I'm in safemode now. I booted from power off with volume rocker up pressed. It vibrated during boot animation and I released power + vol up and now in safemode.

From HERE "blah blah blah...Then the Safe mode notification will be shown on the bottom left of the display. In Safe mode, all third-party applications will not be executed so you can boot up your phone successfully to uninstall any applications that you may have recently installed or which may be stopping your phone from booting correctly"
For example, if you have SetCPU configured to clock your phone at 2.3GHz at boot, then you won't be able to boot up normally. You would boot into Safe Mode, uninstall SetCPU, then reboot normally.

Take out the battery. Put it back in and start your phone again. If the same happens repeat the battery pull but this time hold down on the volume bar and THEN press the power button to restart your phone. After it starts up in bootloader select recovery by moving the volume bar and then hit the power button again. This will bring you back to recovery where you can flash the rom again or restore your backup.

Also keep in mind that some roms can take up to 5 minutes to load the first time. Normally (but definetely NOT always) as long as it doesn't keep reloading the boot animation, everything is fine - the rom is building your file system on your first boot.

Also what are the benefits of switching kernels? And which do you all recommend?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
if you took the time to read about kernels and what they are you would know.
but, i'm in a good mood today:
Kernels govern your cpu speed and how to scale it. Some are locked to a certain frequency set and some are made adjustable, but you have to get an app that interacts with the kernel otherwise it runs at whatever it is preset to.
SetCPU is the one I used, but I know there are plenty out there that others would recommend and swear by in a heartbeat.

I'm using Virtuous rom 1.02 with the advanced kernel. I clocked mine at 475-1100mhz with a low battery profile switch at 275-887 (i think).
Check your rom specific kernel to make sure it runs best for your rom. The rest is personal preference.

*sigh* Give a man a fish and he will eat all day. Teach a man to fish and he will drink beer all day.
Since you're on CyanogenMod, I recommend Pershoot's kernel (available through ROM Manager). If you're feeling bold, download Flippy's latest kernel. Since I'm running the CM-based PyroMod, Pershoot's kernel is built in.
Everytime i flash a rom do i need to flash clockwork mod recovery?

I suggest you check out the stickies sections that has links to a bunch of very well written guides that answer all your questions. the responses you get here are going to turn ugly very fast.

If you open clockwork and your current recover is the same as newest version then there is no need to reflash recovery. The only reason to reflash clockwork is if there is a newer version out.

[Q] [HELP] Bricked? while trying to Unroot

Hey all -- I am an idiot, first and foremost.
I was running an older version of CM7 and just bought an Evo 3D. I decided to sell my Evo 4G online, and went to unroot it. I ran the original software RUU (1.06.651.4) on the phone, (because I am dumb and didn't think things through) and now it is semi-bricked.
Symptoms:
The phone turns on with only a black screen (it is "lit up" but nothing appears on the screen).
The phone vibrates once, then the phone plays a sound (a little tune) to indicate it is booting up.
The phone plays a sound to indicate a low battery warning.
The phone plays a sound to indicate when I connect the USB cable to it.
If I try to boot to bootloader by holding Vol-Down when powering up, the black screen appears with no sound and no further action.
If I try to re-run the RUU, or run a different RUU, I get a USB Connection Error.
I can't run an RUU, I can't flash anything because I have no access to Recovery, etc.
Can anyone help fix my stupidity? I shouldn't have rushed into unrooting. Damnit.
Mmm. Interesting situation. I don't think you're screwed though.
Try this.
Pull the battery and let it chill for a minute.
Put it back in
Try to boot into bootloader again by holding volume down key.
Hopefully it will allow you to boot into hboot.
Report back how that goes

Safe Mode

This may be a dumb question but before today I never even knew it existed. What is "safe mode"? Is that like safe mode on a windows pc where it only loads default drivers, or is it something else entirely?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
I'm interested too. In what capacity did you first learn of "safe mode"?
??
I don't think this exists on this phone, so I am not sure what you're talking about here.
There is the bootloader, recovery, and then normal phone functions.
Where did you hear about safe mode?
I know there's hboot.. recovery and bootloader. But safe mode never heard of it

I actually found out about it on accident. My phone kept looping at the boot animation. I went to pull the battery but accidently hit vol down and power button at same time wile pulling off the cover. All of a sudden phone vibrated 3 times and then booted but it had safe mode printed in the lower left corner. I tried googling it but couldnt find anything thay explained exactly what it is.

You can try it on your phones. When the boot animation starts playing hold vol down and power at the same time. Keep holding it untill your phone vibrates.

It did allow me to fix my phone without having to restore a nandroid. I was trying to get a hotboot mod to work on the new stock rooted GB when i got the boot loop. But being able to boot into safe mode allowed me to change the moded file back to the original therfore fixing my boot loop issue.

I've been doing some more googling and it seems every stock rom running android phone has safe mode, but different phones have different ways of entering into it. Some vol down and power, some vol up and power, some you have to hold the menu button, some vol down power and menu, and some holding down the track ball.

Hmm, never stumbled onto that before. Thanks to everyone for feedback!
Interesting, I'll have to try it next time I change up my phone config
Edit:
Wow, that just saved me from a lot of trouble. Flashed a voltage table that was unstable and caused the phone to bootloop, this worked saving me from an uninstall.

It is Volume Down + Power as well. People try it a hundred times and tell me its not working. One day they finally get it. Home + Power was how it was in Gingerbread. But if the screen turns off or you see the volume bar, you failed miserably, thats how i train people
99% chance I can pick up your phone and do it right now, 1% chance somethings wrong, thats only like 400,000 phones right? haha
