[Q] Otterbox, hard to hear? - Captivate Accessories

I kind of think its hard to hear people now that I have the Otterbox Defender case since it keeps your ear further away. The phone was never that loud to begin with sadly.
Is anyone using the screen protector that it came with?
Sometimes its harder to text with the case, am I right?

I got the Defender for my Captivate about two weeks ago and my only complaint is that it makes the buttons at the bottom of the phone (Home, Back, etc) a little bit harder to hit. Not enough to really make an impact though. Can still hear all calls fine. Texting is uninterrupted.

I had that case for a while and never had that problem. Make sure you didn't install your screen protector upside down so that it covered the speaker.
Or if you are using custom rom sometime the volumn is not as loud as the stock...

Going naked... how is your camera?

So I decided to NOT but a case around my pretty phone an go naked for a bit. The concern is about the camera lens. I have been getting more and more "careless" with the phone.. not putting it on a soft napkin and just laying it on a table. I have a screen protector on the front so maybe I should just lay it face down. But I am wondering.. anyone have an issue with the camera without using a hard case? The lens actually seems pretty strong....
I've never used an extra case for a phone, they already come with a nice sexy hard plastic one. However with the Evo i would never use it without a screen protector. I think the lens is decently strong, it can take being set down on. Still be careful though.
I use nothing at all not even a screen protector..and it's in perfect condition..i hope it stays like that

I am hunting for a case right now. The phone got pushed by someone's elbow across the table and the sound nearly made my ears bleed and my heart stop. Luckily it didn't do anything to the raised camera, but I am not risking it again.
The Nexus lens is a lot like the Evo lens. I've had mine going for 3 months with rough use and there are a few tiny scratches on the lens, but nothing major. it doesn't effect the image quality at all.
I wouldn't be too worried
my zagg came with a cut out for the camera, going to just drop that on there
I got rid of my Hard case and got the Zagg full body and seidio holster my camera is holding up fine no scratches and i don't lay it flat on the screen
Do what I do...
Pop open the back case, and put on a square piece of CLEAR tape (not the scotch kind), packaging tape seems to work pretty well. Make sure it doesn't overlap on to the back speaker as it can reduce the phone's loudness. Then put the case back on. From time to time just replace the tape when it gets too scratched up.
Screen protector and nothing else. I normally leave the phone screen down on the desk.
I am not that concerned about the camera. There is always a way to replace parts on these phones (you can replace the screen 'relatively' easily also). I am sure I would be able to replace the camera cover/plastic/glass piece.
going streaking
been using it with out any screenprotectir abd case, not a single scratch *knock on wood* the new age screens are not ment to be used with a screen protector, and case just BLAH UGLY
I use a black silicon case and screen protector. I went nude for a while and I was just too nervous about it. The case is easy to take off, so if I let someone play with it, I often just take it off first so they can see just how nice the phone is. Something I like about the case is that the lens doesn't touch the surface when I lay it down - and I don't lay it on the screen, not that it would matter.
Another plus is that it doesn't slip out of my pocket like it used to (and any other phones I've had) when I'm active. Lots of pluses. Just too bad this particular one doesn't look that cool (not bad though). I'd really like to find a similar case that actually looks cool, maybe sporty.
I always use the kickstand and just prop up my phone. I am having no issues at all.
no case no nothing
it's gonna get wear and tear
but you're gonna get a new phone in 1 - 2 years anyway right
I always use a case to keep the phone in good condition for when I sell it after I'm done with it. It always gets top dollar since all the other used ones online being sold are junked up. But to each their own I suppose. Good luck!
No case, no screen protector. Looks like it did when I got it June 4th.
I just ordered this today: http://www.handhelditems.com/product_info.php?cPath=3524_5132_7769&products_id=135999
And it's cheap and it looks like it will do the job just fine with out adding much profile. I'd choose this over a naked alternative. Mine is partially naked, it has a screen protector and has been fine since.
I'll let you know how this case is when I get it.

Same here. I always sell mine cause they still look new. I sold my Moment when I got my EVO and got $230 for it on eBay.

I don't use a case and the camera is just fine, no scratches at all. I even dropped my phone on concrete like, the 3rd day I got it (missed my pocket lol) and the phone is completely fine, aside from a scratch on one of the corners that isn't noticeable unless you're looking for it. Speaking of which... I WANT A BUMPER CASE!! like this.. except black lol.
http://thenextweb.com/mobile/2010/06/11/pictures-of-iphone-4-bumper-cases-surface/
if anyone finds one let me know
I do not have any screen protector or case, and (until I get a dock) I set my phone down camera face down. I got it opening day and have no scratches on the screen, but there are tiny, minute scratches on the camera lens glass. Though they are contained within the black, non-lens area that reads "8.0 Megapixels". It almost seems like this was intentionally done, as when you set the phone down on the camera, it's at an angle and the viewable part of the lens doesn't seem to touch the table. Photos I take are unaffected. It seems harmless and I will keep going "naked" with mine. I'll try and take a close up pic of the affected area if anyone wants to see.
I've been really careful with the phone but got my first scratch on the lense yesterday. It must have happened in my pocket yet I only keep the phone by itself in there. The Evo is a beautiful phone but having that protruding lens is a retarded design.

[Q] Do you have problems with the hinge?

I am planning to buy either MT4G or G2, I like the feel of the G2 more but since this is my last month in the US and it will be hard to replace the phone , I am worried about future physical problems. For those who had the G2 for more than a month , does the hinge really cause you any problems with normal usage? like texting , holding the phone , put it in your pocket? browsing the web? Does the screen close with normal usage? Did you notice any problems with building quality ?
nope, i think im one of the only ones that dont.
In my experience the hinge is really only a pain in the ass when you're actually inspecting it and testing it's quality, I mean I don't have a problem with it at all from day to day use. Other than the hinge it's a great phone to have and it would be a shame to let a little imperfection ruin it.
the hinge isnt a problem, its only a problem if YOU make it a problem (yes some do have faulty hinges) but in reality, this phone follows Murphys law and the laws of gravity. or w/e....my phone seems fine.
p.s. AS long as you use the phone in the intended way it was supposed to be used. then you shouldnt have a probem what so ever.
no. the hinge on mine work fine. I barely even open it thanks to swype.
hinge is so problem. if it's not this loose, this phone is ok. and what makes me frustrated is some can get not loose hinge but mine is this loose. it's hard to hold so the display doesnt fall.
holding the phone with keyboard closed is also like shaky.

Even with normal usage? like texting while walking or sitting?
Let me put it this way: I'm a 15 year old kid and I can't hold it with the keyboard open without holding onto the screen as well. So it'd be pretty much impossible for the screen to "fall" down on me.

The only down fall of the hinge is when you are in bed trying to txt or do something. But I found a way to cure that. I type with one thumb and the other thumb holds the screen up lol
Or u can just swype.
Other than that I love this phone..its soo powerful and impresive. Good job HTC.
Of you use swype, your qwerty use will be minimal

never had a problem with the hinge ever.
I have issues with my hinge from time to time, If im holding my phone at a certain angle while using the hardware keyboard the screen somemtimes falls and it is a bit shaky, and for those who say just use swype what's the point of owning the G2 if you don't use the hardware keyboard at all???
The Hinge's poor design doesn't detract much from the overall greatness of this phone. But after holding DOZENS have G2's I'm pretty sure that's how they all are... nobody has a G2 hinge as tight as the G1 hinge, and it' impossible just based on the design.
It is a little loose even when closed if you press in the right spots.... it's not awful but some find it more annoying than others. My girl has a Droid 2 Global, and her sliding mechanism is as tight as a 14 year old Amish girl.... but her phone can't compete with mine on any other level.

14 year old Amish girl. Aha. WIN!
To be honest, the hinge will never be a problem thanks to swype.
Other than the few times i pull good old qwerty out to type my retardedly long password that contains symbols and letters and numbers, I always use Swype for everyday messages. It's so easy to use and so fast.
And if you do want to use the qwerty keyboard, here's a hint:
Put the inside bottom half of both your index fingers on the part of the phone where the top and the bottom are still connected together after the screen has slid up, and the top part of ur indexes hooked around the phone resting on the back panel. The pressure from the bottom part of your index fingers will keep the screen up.
This is the natural way I held the phone while typing and am surprised at people who complain about the screen sliding down while typing, cuz they would have to hold it pretty retardedly to get the screen to slide down.
I myself don't have a problem with the hinge. Some people might if they use a holster, so just be careful if you holster it. Also my wifes phone actually pops open in her purse which drains the battery sooner. I also had that happen while in my hoody pocket.
I have a simple, if not botched, solution for it though. When you get the phone, the cord and headset have a nice small black rubber band on them. Its the perfect fit for this phone. I just stretch it around bottom over the track pad. Its easy to pull off and holds the phone snugly closed.

my hinge is loose but it is no problem for me even when i type upside down in bed because the base of my index fingers support the screen so i have no problem whatsoever with the phone falling down on me
its been very tight for me. I dont think there is anything to worry about. i dont see anything going wrong with it unless you abuse it severely over time.

TPU Gel Cases - Echo problem

Hello
I ordered 2 tpu gel cases from ebay and now i have aserious echo problem, the other side can here himself speaking.
If i could post links out side of this site (i'm anew user here), you could see the cases that i taking about.
Do you know this problem?
Could you suggest me how to resolve it? maybe to cut more space for the mic or something like that...
thnks
Anyone?
Anyone?
Do i the only one who have this problem?
when i remove the case, the echo gone.
but i need the case..
I have a TPU-case but not such problem. Mayne yuo could make the holes bigger...
There's a small hole on the top near the earphone jack for the noise-cancelling mic; maybe the TPU case is covering it. You could try peeling back the edge of the TPU case near the jack so as to expose the mic.
If that makes a difference, you could punch a small hole in the case to accommodate the noise-cancelling mic. You could use a small plastic or metal tube -- maybe the end of a ballpoint pen's ink reservoir -- as a punch.
Echo problem as well here
Hello, I have the same problem with my SGSII. Just got it yesterday. But here I have the problem with or without the TPU case. My TPU case has a small hole near the headphones jack.
Any ideas? And is your problem solved?
EDIT: Tried also speakerphone, then it is all normal. Speakerphone uses the mic on top near the headphone jack, I just found out. It looks like a faulty mic to me (or covered with something).
EDIT 2: Fixed, although people say that with my previous phone the quality was better. Reset to factory defaults did the trick for me. It seems that the firmware update the other day (used Kies) had messed something up, that is my guess.
New device
Well, I kept holding the problem. Yesterday in the morning all was fine, in the noon people kept telling they hear me with bad quality and an echo. I went back to the store, explained the situation, they gave me a new device. I can clearly see the difference in the microphone hole .. the first phone it was closed, here it is more open. Problem should be solved now, I hope. I can say that I tested the quality myself and I can hear the difference. The sound of voice is more clear and louder.
Same problem recently started with mine. Gel case and upgrade with KE7 around the same time. Now everyone that calls complains of echo. Case off to test that when i get home from work. Hopefully update tonight.

I have the same problem with my galaxy s ii
I have the same problem, with tpu case.
Hello,
I have the same problem with case, when I remove it everything become normal.
How did you solve the problem? Please share your experiences.
I have exactly the same problem. I was first using one of the TPU cases with a small hole on the top. As people on the other side was heavily complaining of echo I replaced it with one which is completely open on the top and on the bottom like this. It is actually a very nice case, but I realized that the problem is less evident but it is still there...!
Even if it not obstructing at all any of the microphone/speaker holes, if I raise the call volume I tested without any doubt that a (low but present) echo can be heard on the other side. The echo completely disappear if I remove the case
Actually what really makes me wonder is how this can happen, and I will really appreciate any suggestion...

Galaxy Note 2 build quality...???

I have bought a new Galaxy Note 2 a couple of days ago but there are some problems with build quality, I don't know if they are widespread or not!
The battery cover squeaks when I press over it, mainly near loudspeaker and volume buttons.
The volume and power buttons feel a bit loose, i.e. they move half a millimeter vertically.
Do you have the same problems? Is my device defective? Do I have any chance with warranty to fix these?

buttons do feel a bit loose, but no biggie for me especially those on volume. battery cover squeaks a bit when pressed too hard, but it's plastic, and plastic with right amount of pressure squeaks.
I have minimal movement in the buttons. A fraction of a millimeter, if any. I have absolutely no squeek with normal use but can fine an area that squeeks if i try hard. Make sure your cover is properly fitted.
Mine doesn't squeak in normal use either but if I push it, it will!

I have some problems. F... Phone for 600Eur
I hate plastic, so I hate Samsung for that. But sorry the buttons don't feel loose, and what do you mean by back plate squeaks near speaker grill, when do you try to open it or just normally press it when it's firmly sitting there? If it's the latter then mine doesn't squeak too.
But other than these, I don't like build quality, how can I when it's all plastic!
My phone makes an awful noise when I drop it. Solution - don't drop it.
My phone makes a noise when I press the back cover. Solution - don't press the back cover.
Is pressing the back cover of the phone something that you need to do in normal use?
Anyhow I saw a comment a while ago that taking the cover off or putting it on in a certain way can damage the tabs along the edge and cause it to squeak. Check the tabs and see if they are all there or are damaged

It's a flagship for crying out loud! You really think the solution is not touching or thinking about it? Don't get me wrong, I love every bit of my phone but Samsung really has to do better with build quality of it's flagships. What was wrong with S2 design? It didn't squeak and was more scratch resistant...

I agree! Infact on S2 the bottom bulk ensure that I hold the phone the right way. Holding Note 2 is a dicey affair as its symmetrical design makes it difficult to know the orientation. I HATE glossy plastic button against the Matte finish, practically indestructible thin plastic on S2. Although I don't like the exposed bottom bulk which is not covered by the battery cover! I personally prefer the plastic cover on Galaxy R which completely cover the back including the area around the MicroUSB port which can easily get scratched otherwise.

While plastic, it is much stronger than some of the more popular alternatives out there.
Which do you prefer?

I have a Galaxy Ace which squeaks a bit. So I use a case which makes it not squeak at all.
You could try that.
Back squeaking would be gone if you put a business card between battery and back cover, so don't think that it was made due pulling it off in a bad way or anything else!

My battery cover squeaks on the opposite side -- near the power button. Although this is probably because I'm using the official flip cover and the portion of the battery cover near the volume buttons is quite stable and thick. Honestly it was initially annoying as hell because I noticed it a week after getting the phone, but it doesn't bother me as much now. At least it doesn't really exhibit the squeaking when I'm actually using the phone -- only when I'm making myself notice it. LOL.
The buttons (volume and power) are a bit flimsy. Way too easy to press, especially the power button. But I'm using the official flip cover + IntelliCover app. So I don't have to actually USE the power button anymore. Not a real solution, but it's a good workaround for those using flip covers.
One more thing to add to obsession list, bezels tend to squeak on certain points!
bezel is coming off
any one expensed the bezel around the screen coming loose?
bought 4 days and already seeing this
It's like that from beginning... Nothing to worry about! Maybe a mechanism to avoid breaking...
Mine has nothing wrong... no squeaks, no loss buttons

[Q] VS985 phone voice transmission weak

In order to make the other end of my phone conversations understand me is to hold the phone against my cheek while talking. This works fine as long as long as I remember to do it, but I have the feeling there is something wrong. I have never had to be this careful with other phones including the G2. Voice enhancement is off, privacy is off. I used to keep the phone in a tpu case, but I feel it is some better without it. There is no microphone obstruction in the tpu case.
Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.
