the problem I have is anytime I open anything theres a lag of 1 to 3 seconds at times. when I type it takes 1-2 seconds for it to catch up with what I had typed. its getting real annoying and don't have much programs open, is there some kind of tweak that can fix this. it would really turn my productivity up ten folds... thanks

yea dude, flash a new rom, what happened is your windows directory got loaded and is slowing down the preformance on your entire ppc.. some of the newer roms have fixed this.
but se I had recently flashed over to crc's 14.1.

when you open file explorer and browse into windows directory. how long does it take to load?
CRC is usually fully loaded, hence it will be slow. Try a lite ROM and see if you have any performance difference.

this could thoretically happen on a light rom also, if he were to install allot of apps that are heavy on installing to the windows directory.

Agreed, performance goes down once you start installing many applications or quit flashing for a few days
Wasn't it with CRC's roms that Odd numbered roms were the stable roms and even numbered roms were in developement?
Could be using a developement rom that has a few bugs to be worked out....
Cheers...

Just use CRC r13, its stable and more performance than r14.1

im currently running now 13.0 stable but still the same, is there something within the registry i can do or something or could it be the auto word completion thing?
i do have quite some software on my phone but majority of them are utility programs that help me clean and or tweak my settings.
i dont wanna crank up my core speed as that will already kill the juice of my battery of what little i do get out of the day,
Use advanced config to make sure you are running with .net framework 3.5... I found a few of the newer roms have it listed as "disabled"...
I can confirm this slowdown. I tried different roms with and w/o manilla 2d interface. Recently, there has been a weird change in the codebase that causes an extreme slowdown in some applications. For example, I am a regular POWDER player, which is an awesome roguelike game. a month or two ago, I had no problems playing POWDER. But the last few roms gave me great trouble. Now the game freezes every 5-10 seconds for a few seconds. I know there is something wrong with the roms because the game is the same game I played 2 months ago. And I don't install many applications to use /windows directory. actually, I install almost nothing and this slow down hits even without installing any applications.
I always use naked roms, but recently there has been a serious lack of them. The reason "may" be the sort of bloated roms. I just hope that somebody comes with a truly naked (.net only) rom so that we can test this hypothesis.
I guess I found the source of the problem. fonts. extra fonts.
One of the programs I install by default after every flash puts three different fonts into the \windows folder. I renamed these fonts and restarted the pda. The annoying slowdown when playing POWDER is now almost gone. Once in a while it still gives me a short freeze, but these freezes are not as frequent as before. The game is much more playable now.
by the way, when I was wandering through my windows folder, I realized that there are an enourmous number of youtube files in it. How unfortunate, because I never use the youtube application. Appearantly, too much storage space is wasted for a program that I never use. I will definitely consider a non-youtube non-manilla non-htchome ROM for the next flash.

ok, couldn't wait till morning. I have been testing the rom for last hour and oh God!... this is the best, fastest, most stable ROM I have flashed in a while. I installed my regular set of software and it is still lightning fast. the windows directory loads in under a second. Probably something like 0.3 seconds!!! All applications are so responsive and everything works so fast, I am finding it difficult to not to cry. Let's see what will happen after a couple of days. But seriously, my hermes hasn't been this awesome for the last two months.
the links not working
Look around, there are a heap of Lite roms available at the moment... Try Darkvision or Tai_SW's rom... Just to name a couple...
I'm following... so heres my idea. I'm not gonna flash my phone just yet (I got a good rom working on it), but...
Can someone either point me to an ultra light rom that has titanium home, or possibly explain how to get titanium onto a non-titanium rom? I know thats like asking "how do you build an engine" or something, but is there a good starting point?
All I want is a rom thats fast, has titanium home, and has the Touchflo 2d phone skin (for big fingers).
P.S>. Why do roms slow down over time for no reason? I've noticed the latest crop of 6.5 roms run good for a day or two, then start going REALLY slow. I can't nail it down.. I try Oxios but it doesn't help. I'm not installing anything either. The honeycomb gets jerky, the "red end button" starts getting a lag / not working at all, etc.
Thanks.
Hello, I tried searching around but couldn't find any similar problem.
I've created my own bootanimation.zip which can be downloaded here http://www.megaupload.com/?d=576GF823 Its Red Wings Related, showing the Center Ice at Joe Louis Arena, then an awesome goal by zetterberg, then loops center ice again. That all works great.
The problem I've run into is that the first time it plays any of the animations they are slow. and when I'm only playing the goal once it goes in slow mo, if i loop it, the 2nd time it plays fast as it should. Is there anyway to fix this? I originally was just doing the goal, then the center ice on loop. I tried putting 1 center ice first, hoping it would take the lag and allow the goal to play full speed, but it doesn't.
Any help is appreciated.
The first playback is slow because it has to load every frame into memory while simultaneously performing the boot process. After all frames are cached, there's no more fighting other processes for access to the system partition.
I'm not 100% on this, but I don't think you can do anything to pause the boot sequence for that first load of the animation.
HTC Vision (G2) - CM7 B62 w/AUS radio
Yeah, I just ran into this same issue making my own. :/
I wish there was a way to pre-cache the boot animation, if it ran full framerate then I'd actually get to see the whole clip when the phone boots.
Mine has no loop though, it's one continuous clip.

Not sure what application you used to make you're bootanimation, but I made mine in After Effects and this is what I did to fix the issue. When rendering I made the dimensions half of the actual screen dimensions (this ended up being 960x600 for my tf700t), then I set the frame rate to 10fps. I then modified the desc.txt file accordingly:
1920 1200 18
p 1 0 part0
p 0 0 part1
(don't copy/paste that, can't remember if you need spaces or not).
Basically I used smaller, less demanding files (and by modifying the export framerate, fewer of them) and then had the tablet just blow them up to fit the screen. No discernible loss in quality. Hopefully this helps someone out there.
Hi everyone
I'm in the process of making my own boot animation which I am sure you will all like
However, I am using LeeDroid's boot animation as a base and my soundtrack that goes along with the animation is twice as long as the LeeDroid one. Will it still all play when the phone turns on or will it stop after a certain point?
EDIT: Also, even after using PNGCrush on the frames I am still getting file sizes like 125Kb at the beginning. I read that they aren't really supposed to be over 35Kb. Any way I can reduce these file sizes?
It's sort of hard to reproduce, but once in a while my icon text would become blurry. This is sometimes combined with blurring of the clock. (See attached screenshots for details.) The blurring clears itself within a few seconds, and usually clears when I force a refresh (by opening new window or by rotating the screen), though not always.
I'm using the Codename Android ROM, but I suspect this has more to do with my sim card; the blurring started right when I started using the new one. Is it possible for sim card to have anything to do with this? Or is this definitely a hardware/software issue?
More to the point, should I be worried?
My clock apps are:

Thanks everyone.
I don't see how the SIM card could ever create this.
It looks like corruption of the launcher. What launcher is included in that ROM? It looks exactly like the issues we had on alpha ICS ROMs for my G2. It was the launcher getting corrupted. I think it was a mix of issues with the GPU etc.. It always fixed with a launcher reload. Sounds similar to the issues you're having.

Darn, I see. According to the release notes for Codename Android:

Do you have any suggestions for how I might go about fixing this? (To be honest, I'm pretty much a noob with a new phone, so anything you could point me to would be appreciated!)
You should be checking to see if its a known bug for the release of the ROM you're running. If its not then you have to go and diagnose from there. Its probably a problem with how the launcher and GPU are rendering things.
You should post this in the ROM's thread to see if anyone else has this.
Thanks! I'll be doing that.
OK so I mentioned I came from the Gs3 and I noticed the nitro has quite a bit of lag to it.
So I thought hmmmmm.... wonder if that trick from the gs3 would work.
And it does! Made a noticeable difference for me, so hope it helps you guys out to.
Doesnt make for an insta beast but hey every little bit helps right?
heres a how to on these couple tricks:
Go to:
Settings
Developer Options
Window animation scale and Transition Animation scale
change it to 0.5x . Play with it if you want some people were changing it to 0.
Then go to background processes and limit to four.
I have to mention this isnt my original idea, someone in the gs3 forums reposted this from ZN6
heres the link to his original thread make sure you give him some thanks!

Post back with results if any
It should be noted that this doesn't actually speed up the phone, it just speeds up the transition time by limiting the time for the transition.

Yes I tried the settings above mentioned and it does seem to make the transitions from foreground apps to background apps even snappier

Touch responsiveness
Does anyone have any tips as far the touch responsiveness. Sometimes it feels like I tap things and nothing happens on the screen for quite a bit. These steps do help though. Ive tried many of phones so its not just an android thing but android does have a weird touch response compared to some other systems but I dont want to get totally into that. Any suggestions?
Hi all
Tested with latest CM10 nightly....phone is snappier....testing the battery drain though......
