[Q] Help Needed with Titanium Backup and Gingerbread - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I am having a weird issue with Angry Birds, Titanium Backup, and Gingerbread. Here is the deal: I backed up AB using TB while running one of the CM7RC0 builds. Then, when I switched back to CM6.1.1 and went to restore AB, the app would not run upon restoration and kept force closing. I figured the backup might have been corrupted. However, I restored my CM7 backup and was able to restore the AB backup. So, I created another backup of AB hoping that this iteration would restore across ROMs as it always has before. Unfortunately, no dice, and I can't get AB to restore onto any ROM other than the one from which it was backed up. Does anyone have a clue about what the issue may be or how I can go about fixing it?
In addition, I have tried backing up AB using other programs such as My Backup Root and it still will no work. This issue is not happening with any of my other backups.

Bumpity bump bump

I have had similar problems when trying to restore from TB upon flashing of a new ROM (whether it be a GB ROM, Sense ROM, whatever).
Before you try my solution, ensure that you have everything backed via TB or MyBackupPro (MBP) (I am so paranoid I have both paid versions installed).
I was only able to get apps restored by deleting android_secure folder on SD card, restoring/installing ROM, and then running TB or MPP to get apps back.
Oh yeah, standard instructions of full data wipe, cache wipe, dalvik cache wipe apply.
I'm sure there is an easier way to do this, but after an extensive search of XDA I've yet to find it.

And you can't view/edit contents of android_secure file from phone. It has to be done via ADB or simply while phone's SD card is mounted as disk drive when plugged in to your PC.

I forgot to mention: I only deleted the content of android_secure, not the folder itself, i.e., the folder remained on the root of my SD card.

Thanks for the advice. I will give this a shot when i get a chance this afternoon and I'll let you know if it works.
Tapa tapa tapa

Hey, no such luck but thats for the advice. I did clear the android_secure folder and the only thing in there, not surprisingly was an ASEC file corresponding to angry birds. I'm out of thanks for the day but I'll be sure to hit you with a few tomorrow.

[Q]Automatic install apps with install

I've got some apps that i need in android, so when i test a new build i have to install them all again.
So i'm wondering if there is a way/script that is installing the apps automatically when the build is making a new data.img?
Is there a way to make it myself? It works the same as linux on the pc?
I know you can have multiple build on your sd card, but it won't fit on my sd card. That's because i have a 2gb card and already 1,8gb is in use(android and maps for winmo tomtom)
Thanks in advance.
Well if you have the actual APK, just drop it in the AndroidApps folder - it'll get installed automatically.
Otherwise, Titanium Backup FTW. The free version is still very powerful, but application restoring is kinda painful on the free version - the paid-for version has a '0-click' batch restore, and I've heard it's very fast. I keep considering buying the app, I probably should
I have not been able to find out how to restore backed up programs using Titanium Backup. I did my backups for the programs that I wanted, deleted my data.img so I could try a new build, and when it rebooted Titanium Backup was not there. I reinstalled Titanium Backup thinking it would find the backed up files again, but apparently it stores the backups in the data.img file. I am not sure if this happens to be an issue that I have encountered solely or not, but it kinda aggravated me that it didn't do what it was supposed to do.
Any advice or knowledge of what I may have done wrong?

It stores the backups on the root of the sdcard in the folder TitaniumBackup. I have version 2.9.4 installed.

I checked that directory after I performed my backups, and the files were there, but when I reinstalled the app after wiping the data.img, the directory was empty. Apparently I must have needed to rename the directory prior to reinstalling Titanium Backup or something.

Probably when you where installing TB again, it emptied the folder.
Sounds likely. I will have to test that theory later on when I go to try a new build, if I remember to do so.

Data Restoration From CWM

I am running current version of Bonsai 3.0.1 Yesterday, my phone dropped and the battery fell out. When I tried to reboot the phone, there were many Force Closes. I tried fixing permissions twice but it was still having FC issues, so I figured I'd restore the data. Well, I hadn't backed up in several days, so I did a Nandroid backup before I went to restore. I kind of figured that restoring the phone from a backup of bad data wouldn't work and it didn't. Restoration from that backup causes a endless reboot. Sooooo, I restored from a backup which was several days old and it worked fine. But, my data is old for one particular app.
So my question is this: Can I extract data for one particular app and restore it from a Nandroid backup?
Or is it possible to restore the apps only from the Nandroid backup?
If I choose "Restore Data" from the Nandroid backup, I go into an endless reboot loop.
Restoring the "System" will bring the phone back to working, but the data is old.
Yeah, Yeah, I have Titanium and could have accomplished this easily with it, but I hadn't been backing up there either.
I know I'm probably screwed, but if anyone has any suggestions about how to get my data back (for one app or all), I'd sure appreciate it.

I think there is a way. Someone else had a similiar problem and wanted to get their text message data out. It is in the thread below where 00dwan talks about unyaffs and data files. Seems a bit complicated but if the data is that important you will need to be able to identify the data file for that app.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Thank you Thank you. Works great!
I'm having trouble putting the file where it needs to be (I'll figure it out), but I am able to get the information I need from the data file even if I can't get the file where it goes.
It is kinda weird. I put the file on my SD card and then put it into the phone. I copy the file to the clipboard and then go to the directory I need to place the file in. I select paste and it seems to paste the file, but nothing changes. I think it was because I hadn't mounted the system/data as RW. But the strange thing is that when I copy the file to the clipboard from the SD card, the file DISAPPEARS as if I cut it instead of copied it. Anyway, I'll figure it out.
Thanks again for the tip!

Glad it helped. Definitely sounds like it wasn't mounted r/w. Wierd that it disappears from card on a copy operation. Root Explorer is good for this.

Replaced Evo, nandroid missing files

Recently I had to have my evo replaced because the mic died. sure was nice to spend 35 bucks instead of 400. after a little work i got it rooted and flashed and made a fresh nandroid of the new rom. I noticed that titanium hadn't backed anythingup lately but I had made a nandroid before taking the phone in. After a little research i moved the old nandroid to the new nandroid folder (serial numbers and all that) and proceeded to wipe everything and restore nandroid. Now I have almost everything back... except most of my apps. seems they were on the sdcard and now don't want to play nice. I can go to manage applications and sdcard and they are there but greyed out and unchecked. if I tap on one, it will crash immediately. I tried fix_permissions which ran for a few mins but nothing changed, so i rebooted again. still nothing. is there another solution for this or should I just attempt to pry open the img file and extract my data there? If so, where would said app data be? not the apps, but their data for saves/bookmarks/etc. Any help would be appreciated, this has been very frustrating.
Use Root Explorer to check whether the data's there (in /data/data) and whether the APKs are missing (/data/app if they were stored on the phone, /mnt/asec if they'd been moved to the SD card). You probably just need to reinstall the app, though you should backup the data just in case.
seems that the info is there in data/data, but not in data/apps. mnt/asec is also empty, though I recall moving most of my things to sdcard at one point. how can I copy data/data to my pc? can't seem to mount it where the pc will see it, even through recovery.
I decided since I can't mount it for some reason (lack of knowledge comes to mind) that I would just unyaffs the files. how would I push the data/data files back to the phone?

help restoring nandroid backup..phone out of order(resolved)

hello. so i did a nandroid backup of my rooted el29 gingerbread + cwm epic 4g phone a week ago. it created a folder on my external sd card (sdcard/external sd/sdc2012-06-2012 folder) ive also continously made titanium backups of the apps + sys data. so i let a friend uninstall a system app(id bloatware) just to prove it could be uninstalled but dont like that i get error messages now sometimes when accessing email, etc. i tried a titanium backup but it hangs for 5min. now im trying a nandroid restore in cwm v5.0.2.7. where is a good guide for this? i went to restore but it keeps saying "error opening directory. No files found." i dunno what directory its searching but clearly not the correct one as i verified almost 700MB of data on external sd card. ive wiped data, cache so it only boots to "samsung logo screen." i also have a backup nandroid on my server so how to i get it to actually restore?
06-12-2012 update: crisis averted. i remember doing advanced backup w/ cwm recovery originally so i just did regular backup. it created a directory cwm/backup/new folder. i put the files from original advanced backup over to correct location and restore did it!! this is just like the acronis images i do for my pc's. what a wonderful thing!!

SD Card File System Problems Flashing ROMs

I have flashed a CM11 unsuccesfully and today sucessfully flashed AOSP Kitkat. I have found the file system is screwing with my sdcard. I have emulated/o, emulated/legacy, SD0, and SD1. I always run a Nandroid before flashing and that completely disappeared from my internal storage, it was not in any of the directories.
Not only that but after I booted up only a few of my apps were restored by Google restore. I installed Titanium and it had nothing. It informed me that the phone ID had changed and asked me if I wanted to change back for compatibility. I let it do it and ended up with a Titanium backup from a couple phones ago.
What the hell is going on and what is the best way to deal with the storage file system after a flash when one has these extra directories? Can I merge? I'm afraid to delete one because I do not know that it will not have some data I might need.
Thanks
