Is anyone working on Android for WP7 devices? - Windows Phone 7 General

I really like WP7 but being the geek that I am, I would love to tinker with Android. I know I would end up using WP7 in the end in the same way I go back to Windows after a few days of tinkering with Linux or OS X, but it would be awesome to play around in.
So are any of the devs/hackers/crackers actively working on a Android port for WP7?

I don't thinks so , I think they first try to unlock the phone (full ,reg edit , perma sideloading , etz)
this OS isn't hacked as we speak , so the android stuff will take a real long time I think.

not so sure about it
have you tried android that you can speak so ?
i asure you i DID tried android, and the phone ended up with my wife, as android is still in its baby shoes. toooooo many things to work out to be user more friendly.
the same thing as difference between windows and linux os. i am not saying linux is bad, it is not just for masses. not user friendly, and very small ammount of software (still !) after more than 15 years developing look where windows came, and where linux is ?
i am not saying androind is bad, it is just not developed enough, and it will take long time to reach this level that WM has.

well i'm pretty sure you never worked on/with a linux....try ubuntu and you'll never come back to windows (except for some professional applications like 3ds max/autocad).....and for android....even it is younger it kicks wm's ass, totally

yes, you read my life history! exactly you know what i have done.
so i guess over a year with ubuntu, kubuntu or many other distros is not enough. or maybe unable to make no name scanner work in the office with linux os is not enough .. nooo, must be the smart card reader and el. payment software not working on linux are considering as prof applications
i am talking about basic office use. nothing else. but more the next-next-next-finish use.
for example, make vpn connection with mschap, and header comperssion on windows. it IS next next next finish, on linux ? you have to add 3 modules, and compile the kernel (YES on ubuntu!) .. is THAT user friendly? and that is professional usage ?
you missed my point, i am not saying it is bad, just VERY slowly developing! and on windows everything much easier to do.
but then again, we are not talking about linux and windows, it is wm and android, yes simmilar, but then, why dont you get android phone, and not force it on diamond, someone nicely said "everything is working except .. " yes, kicking ass full time
for me is working good...i hardly ever use camera..and i find a lot easier doing thing in android..
I agree, WM is much more user friendly than Android as of current situation. I know Android is good looking than windows but at some places even I have experienced that it could do much better. I guess it'll take some time. Even WM wasn't perfect at start... it took time to develop into something so user friendly.
Droid sux big time
I've just tried the HTC Incredible (kind of the better version of Desire). Such a waste to put Android on that great device...
Although fast overall, the interface is sluggish at times and confusing. It was so easy to screw around and get to a totally different page/app that what I wanted. But maybe that's because it takes time to get used to it.
However, the most horrible thing was trying to watch a video on it... even a dumb Youtube video looks awfully pixelated and it was struggling to get what looked like 15-20 fps.
After all, how many of you saw a proper video player written in java?
I powered down my beloved Diamond friend for 2 years three weeks ago and booted up into Android on a brand new Desire.
It reminded me of old times with Nokia 6xxx phones, how responsive and simple to use they were. I gave this up on WinMo and got used to fairly temperamental MS system, with its random delays in answering phone calls or dialing contacts.
But with Android that Nokia responsiveness is back, it just flies as if it was designed in Finland.
When acquiring Desire I was ready to give up on some of the functionality that was readily available on WinMo 6.5 but to my surprise I had to make very few consessions. There is actually quite a lot of new features/capabilities specific to Android, which I found really great.
I use my phone mainly for work, utilize most of the communication features frequently and can confess that Android powered Desire definitively lowered my blood pressure. It is dependable, great workhorse with hopefully bright future.
So concluding this little switch over account I am glad that we have a choice now and that smart phones can be made into well working communicators and wish that Microsoft got the WinMo 7 right, the more competition there is the better for us.
Although knowing Redmond I do not pin my hopes too high eventhough I know from internal sources that they are in a sheer state of panic over the mounting losses in WinMo marketshare.
doubt...

android
I have no idea why the HTC guys do not make the android for all HTC models, so we could choose which to use. only thing I know is, that god damn Windows sucks not only on my PC it also sucks in my mobile too. I've tried Xandroid but it warms up my processor and nothing works properly, I hope the guys that did hard job will fix all that problems, or I'll buy nokia again. Symbian is much easier to use than that stupid WM

Is it feasible to port windows phone 7 to the g2

Topic.
Only reason I ask is because I'm the type that gets bored with phones easily so I'm looking to switch it up a bit. That, and I like the Zune features..
How would you port it with no source code ?
WHY would you want to pollute a GOOD phone with that TRASH???!?!?

If you get bored with Android, its OPEN SOURCE!!! Start coding/hacking.
Coding is exciting. Way more fun than dumpster diving.
And its even LEGAL.
If you really are bored with the phone, then sell it and buy a WP7 phone. You'll probably come back to Android once you see all the things that are currently missing from WP7.
I think it'd be cool to dual boot instead of having to go out and purchase a whole new phone. For now the closest we've got it Windows 3.1 over aDoxBox ... rofl!
Do a search for the dual boot threads, and find a WP7 dev willing to leak source. Still don't understand how anything about this phone and it's dev community can be boring.

Just keep android... WP7 isn't that great anyway. Android is way more powerful and easy to use and a WP7 port wouldn't be fully functional anyway.

Why would you come in here and tell him, "Just keep Android. Don't worry about WP7." If he's like any tech enthusiast, he probably likes to tinker and just experience other operating systems and setup just for the sake of experiencing them. Hell, I do this all the time with computer operating systems.
If he wants to try out WP7, let him try out WP7. Don't tell him, "Just keep Android."

Well Put, #CoSign
Just like you stated your opinion, I am free to state mine. Personally, I like android. I like the custom ROMs available and I use them. As someone who came from WindowsPhone to Android I would not want to go back. I didn't mean to sound like I was against tinkering, it was simply my opinion on that specific subject. If they want to port it then fine lol. I won't try and stop them.
Here is the link to one of the themes available anyway:
https://market.android.com/details?id=info.tikuwarez.launcher3&feature
Here are a couple of threads that were for a WP7 Port:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1214061
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=813184
And that is probably as far as it will go.
I do love to tinker and I really think I'd like a windows phone, I just don't want to buy one without playing with it for a week or so to make sure it's a worthy purchase. Perhaps I'll just wait til my contract is up and try a windows phone for 30 days...

I know a few people that have WP7 Devices and they seem pretty satisfied with them as far as functionality. The OS is closed source though so there isn't much in the way of tinkering. At least not legally. I like the open source code of Android although that is getting too controlled now also by companies like HTC that don't want to allow redistribution of their software. Anyway check out the links I posted in my last comment. The theme from the market is kind of dumb but the other threads I've linked to may be of some help because even though they're old threads some posts in them point to other places where development may be going on currently. I hope I have been more helpful with this post and the one before this than with my first one lol.

[Q] why we can install android on HD2 But we cant do that with HD7

If you want Android you are probably gonna buy an Android device in the first place and there are plenty of HTC Android devices.

Essentially because there's little call for it. The upgrade from Winmo to Android/WP7 was drastic and you could have a high end device on any of the 3 OSes by porting it. If you ported android to the HD7 you would have paid as much for a low-end android device as you would for a mid-high end WP7, it's illogical and stupid and thus there's no call for it.

The main reason is because there is no interest in doing this. And the reason for that is because there isn't anything wrong with WP7 as compared to WinMo. The reason the HD2 got all that dev love was to get away from WinMo on a superphone. WP7, though, happens to be the best mobile OS ever invented. So there just won't be as much or any interest in hacking the HD7 just to put an inferior OS on it.
see all
first must say ThanX 4 all
i want know only why the HD2 have all OS Rom
Y there is android rom for HD7
WP7 VERy Good
i can't say any thing
but only want tho know
I can never understand this response. I had a sdand/wp7 hd2 until it broke, and it was replaced with an hd7. I like wp7 better but android offers more functionality and has a lot of apps/games which are unavailable on wp7.
I loved the option of switching OS' at a click and I can't imagine there aren't many others just like me. The truth is that I spent much more time using android than wp7 when I had the choice of either.
I just bought a galaxy note so ill be saying adieu to wp7 for now but I seriously hope I can dual not wp7 on it.

WebOS on Defy?

I know this sounds crazy but still...
Recently HP released the source code for WebOS and it was ported to devices like the HTC EVO 3D (with multiboot!!)
Wouldn't it be great to get it on our Defy? I know the devs are quite busy with ICS. But this might be a good idea....
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
Nobody managed to put different kernel other than the leaked/original ones and your're asking about WebOS on Defy... Man, you make me think that you've been living in a world of your own for the last two years or so...
Defy has a locked bootloader, so il will only boot Motorola signed stuff... not even fully custom Android.
Offtopic: Please give me a good reason to dump Android and fully switch to WebOS.
Well, MeeGo would be nice....support for both Android and Qt apps, but WebOS... really.
Don't be rude )
I had a Touchpad for a brief week to play with. It's got an intuitive interface and OS. Different from my Defy and Gf's iPhone.
But it's too little to late. Not to many apps. About "a billion less downloads". Unless some company turns this in the new Android.
Still multiboot would be nice. Diversity is a known fact here on XDA. I myself have used 4 different Oses -excluding WebOS which i don't know after a week of use- and Android is the best. Let's make Android better.
Also note that the best OSes are the ones with the best apps and support. Right now those are Android and iOS.

I said "Multiboot". There's no reason to fully dump out Android (the world's most powerful phone os) but WebOS should be great if you low on battery.

I suppose if you don't ask, you don't get.
WebOS is alright but I'd echo the other comments - the apps are woeful, obscenely overpriced and despite the latest move from HP it's dead in the water.
Whilst it's quite intuitive Android is definetly 10 times ahead of all the OS's not just WebOS.
