First underlying issue; can't update the radio and PRI in my EVO4G. I am using the latest fresh Rom, 3.5
First tried using clockwork, the updates think they install but never show up in the software info when I check. Then I tried using the FreshUpdater, which also fails and advises me to use AmonRA.
Second issue, I can't flash the AmonRA image. First fails with the terminal emulator, tells me there is not enough space on the device (4 gb isn't enough? Yeah right). Second fail with the ROM Manager... it thinks it succeeds but when I reboot into recovery, I still have the old clockwork... yet the Rom manager continues to report AmonRA is my current recovery agent...
To eliminate solutions, I have:
Root access
Latest Rom manager, terminal emulator, AmonRA
Plenty if space available
Directories and terminal commands are all correct
Was never plugged into the PC during flash attempts
Please help me out guys lol

For Amon_Ra download this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=483814&d=1294480162
Rename it PC36IMG.ZIP and place it on the root of your sdcard. Then boot into hboot and answer yes when prompted. Let it do its thing and select recovery after. That should do it.

I am using Myn's RLS5 as well. I have downloaded 1.77 from Calk's thread on "All Radios for Evo...", copied it over on the root folder of SD.
Then went into recovery to install zip. It installs correctly but no changes are reflected in ROM software information page.
Any help is appreciated.

I used toastcfh's method to get full root and nand unlock. Can someone point to me to pretty stupified tutorial that will get me from where I am to where I want to go?
I've spent a couple hours scouring the forums and trying a couple different methods, but have failed miserably.
I appreciate your help!
Since you've gone through the toastfch tutorial already I assume you will know how to do the following already:
1. Boot into recovery
2. Do a nandroid backup
3. Wipe data, cache and dalvik (wiping data may not be necessary but I always do it to be safe*)
4. flash the new rom.zip file
5. Reboot
If you want to save your settings, ect I suggest doing a titanium backup before doing any of this because *YOU WILL LOSE ALL SETTINGS AND DATA (apps, ect).
you would think so, but I don't know how to flash the rom. :S
when I select "apply sdcard:update.zip" after wiping the cache and data, I get this:
"-- Install from sdcard...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted."
I copied netarchy's rom to the sdcard (with the 2 radios) and renamed it to update.zip.
Don't rename the new rom to update.zip. Leave it as the default name and flash it.

Doesn't seem to make a difference. I tried it originally with the full filename, then tried the update.zip, and now I renamed it and tried it again with the full name, but still getting the same message.
Do I need to change my recovery version? If so, how?
What recovery are you using? If you don't know, is the font blue or yellow (maybe orange - can't remember)?
Download netarchy's rom again, you shouldn't be failing the signature. And don't rename it this time. And delete any update.zip you have on the sd card.
The menu text is blue on the recovery menu.

Done. Same error.
You have clockworkmod recovery. Install amon ra recovery and try to flash your rom.
If you don't know how to install amon ra, the easiest way would be to download rom manager from the market and there should be an option to flash amon ra from the inside the app.

Alright the easy way might not work for you. search for a guide that will get amon ra installed for you. I think that should solve your problems once you have it installed.

Got it all sorted now.
Turned out my nand unlock wasn't successful. Went back through toastcfh's past 2 and that sorted me out.
In the processing of flashing Fresh 3.1.0.1.
Will post back with the results tomorrow.
Everything looks good. Got Fresh 3.1.0.1 up and running.
Only problem is that Titanium isn't recognizing my backup files, so now I've got to figure that out.
I appreciate your help!
You did Simpleroot which is the first step in rooting..... reverting your software to a earlier method....if you go into the boodloader screen, your hboot version should say .0.76.xxx...then you need to to toast's method part 2 to obtain full root and gain super user permission, also when you do Toast part 2..it will upgrade you to the 1.47. But in the end I guess if unrevoked is working ok for you and you can flash roms...go for it. And last, you will find you may need to switch recoveries between RA and Clockworkmod...because some roms perfer one or the other.
Hey guys and gals,
This is my first post and i need some help. Here's the story.
I rooted my phone a few weeks ago, everything went stunningly easy, and worked great. Clockworkmod recovery was installed (by unrevoked) at this time. While driving home I broke my phone's screen and had to get a replacement phone. Asurion had a phone to me within 18 hours (my word they're fast). I slapped the 16GB SD card from my first phone in and I was off and running.
So I have my new phone with my original 16GB SD card and set it up normally again. I wanted to wait a bit and get it set prior to rooting again. Tonight I rooted the phone with Unrevoked 3.21 as I did before. It went much faster than before. I now have S-Off but clockworkmod recovery is not on my hboot screen and recovery mode doesn't work at all. Just a black screen for about 15 seconds before loading into the OS.
Have I screwed up a one click root? I've tried a few things.
I used droid-life as a guide to help me root.
Phone Stats:
Droid Incredible
Asurion replacement
OS 2.2
radio 2.15.00.07.28
kernel 2.6.32.15-gb7b01d1
build 3.21.605.1 CL231334 release-keys
Although clockworkmod recovery isn't in Hboot the reflash tool still says "Recovery Image: ClockworkMod Recovery" on the bottom. I have tried renaming the clockworkmod folder on the SD card to see if it would create a new one, or boot into clockworkmod recovery after realizing the folder is not there.
I have also tried formatting my SD card and running the reflash tool again. Again no dice, no recovery mode.
I have tried unrevoked 3.21 after every change.
What have I done? what do I do? any suggestions?
Thanks for anybody and everybody's input. I appreciate it. I would like to start flashing roms but really dont want to mess with it if I dont have a recovery option.
-MOJO
Is it a complete download of the unrevoked tool? Sounds almost like the recovery package isn't there. Try redownloading unrevoked and run it again. Do you have root and Superuser app at least? If so, try downloading and running ROM Manager and tell it to flash Clockwork again. Still no dice, try telling it to flash RA recovery. And for the record, which screen do you have?

It's an alternate recovery. Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=758874
It's also the second to the last option in ROM Manager. Flash Alternate Recovery: RA_GNM Recovery v1.7.6
I actually like that one better. It was able to format my SD card correctly. I just miss the integration with ROM Manager.
Phew... It worked.
the alternate recovery worked.
now if I want to flash ROMs do I need to know anything in particular before doing so with the AMON_RA recovery tool.
I downloaded the a4d utility that I found when doing a search for AMON_RA on appbrain. It asks if I want to flash my phone to unlock my bootloader (and void my warranty, haha).
do I need to unlock my bootloader before flashing ROM's
I like the sense UI. thats all I have actually used. Is there anything better? what are suggested, STABLE, ROMs/kernels for the DInc? or should I stay "stock 2.2 rooted"?

Btw. Hboot only shows recovery, not clockwork recovery. Did you ever try selecting recovery from hboot?

Uncommon sense has some of it removed. Some of it you can remove yourself. It's the only rom I've donated to and had on my phone more than two days.
Just be careful if removing stuff. Some of it has other dependencies. There are guides on how to remove things safely without breaking other functionality.
Also do a backup first. I'm not sure how amon ra works, but it must be in there somewhere.

It is. In the main menu, just like Clockwork
So I definitely have recovery with the amon_RA 1.7.6 alternative recovery with the ROM manager. but from what I have read I can no longer use ROM manager to flash.
Now I have been searching for information/instructions on how to use AMON_RA but have come up short, at least recently written stuff. I can find a ton of information about clockworkmod which I assume is because of Unrevoked 3.21.
PonsAsinorem as you said you miss the integration of ROM manager. I really want to use ROM manager.
I read somewhere in XDA that people were having trouble using clockworkmod and ROM manager and it could be because of a corrupted cache. there were some LIMITED instructions about using ADB to fix it but I wasn't completely understanding them.
I think my problem is spawning from using my old SD card and maybe a corrupted cache. I have made a back up using Amon_RA (actually two).
Does anyone think that completely formatting my SD card (after moving my backups to my MAC) and factory restoring my phone. then reflashed using unrevoked 3.21, or reflashed clockworkmod recovery using rom manager would work to solve my problem with clockworkmod recovery?
I would have backups if it didn't work. I would just have to restore the Amon_RA backup if I screwed anything up or wanted my SD card back... Right?
Thanks for all the help so far.

OK, so I'm a bit of a n00b here, and I need just a quick hand.
I'd flashed Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo a few days ago and was attempting to use metamorph to tweak the battery icon. Ran a Nand backup beforehand. Something went wrong with the metamorph and I was stuck in a bootloop afterwards.
So I hit power and held down on the volume rocker, hoping to get into my Nand.
Instead, it wouldn't let me select anything, went through its own update/recovery process, and now that it's done, I'm back to stock (complete with sprint bloatware) and totally unrooted. I DLed Rom Manager off the market and tried to get into Amon_Ra recovery, but it keeps telling me I don't have permission (thus I deduce I've lost root access.)
Is there anyway I can flash my Nand at this point, or do I need to go back through the rooting process?
Thanks for your help.

To get a recovery on your phone, you need to have root.
To get root need superuser permissions and/or nand unlock
To get nand unlock and superuser permissions you need to go through the rooting process.
If you've used unrevoked 3.21 and have S-OFF. You can flash recoveries and superuser permissions without having to go through any rooting process.
So I guess then what I need to understand is how would I go about flashing the superuser?
edit: at this point I've already gone through the whole rooting process, including unrevokedforever.zip and the additional ENG bootloader. I get into ROM manager, and go to recovery, but the clockworkmod recovery doesn't see my most recent backup. Reflashing to RA recovery, it finds it, but tells me I have to run the recovery via ADB. ???
Pretty sure what happened is that you left a stock pc36img.zip on your sd card, leftover from your rooting process. When you booted into hboot, it loaded it automatically and you must have hit update. Not sure what caused your bootloop though.
Check your sd card, and if theres a pc36img.zip on it, delete it. Look for the superuser app in your app drawer, and also check your hboot to see if you're s-off. If you are in fact back to unrooted stock, you can always run unrevoked to quickly root and then you can restore your nandroid, just make sure you have the same recovery that you used to make the nandroid.

When you go into the loader (Vol Down + Power) does it say S-Off in the first line?
If it does then you still have root and you can flash the custom recovery's .zip and you will be able to load back into recovery.

Definitely. So now I need to get my microSD card reader and remove it. Can do.
Any idea why both Clockworkmod and Amon_RA are unable to load my backup? Versions for RA should be the same, and I think the same for Clockwork as well.
OK, I deleted PC36IMG.zip, now it just stays stuck in bootloader.
looks like I'm hosed, but here's what I'm learning on Freeza's thread, where I DLed the PC36IMG.zip in the first place:
freeza said:
UPDATE: It appears as though everyone is getting stuck in bootloader after this procedure. You can get out of this by reflashing your current ROM (without wiping) and/or restore a nandroid backup. Some have reported errors when trying to restore a nandroid backup. YMMV
Karadorde has put together a package that works. Read his instructions below:
First and foremost it seems that if you get stuck in the Bootloader (no matter what method you are using) then your Nandroid backups are broken. I don't know that anyone has been able to successfully restore from one of those yet.
The file in the OP allows you to apply just the engineering HBOOT.img (hboot_0.76.2000.img) This works flawlessly for some but not so well for others.
The file in Post 71 and Post 91 allows you to apply a full PC36IMG.zip that contains the engineering HBOOT.img (hboot_0.76.2000.img) This is a fix for some who have gotten stuck in the Bootloader after using the file from the OP. At the same time this has also caused the some of the same issues people were having with getting stuck in the Bootloader from the OP. This file will not downgrade any part of your phone, however, it will wipe the phone. Also it is reported that it broke root on one phone. I believe this only happened to one person, need confirmation on if it happened to multiple.
If you get stuck in the Bootloader you can re-flash your Kernel to fix the issue. Not sure if this works with the stock Kernel or if you have to have a custom Kernel. Looking for feedback on this.
If you get stuck in the Bootloader reflash your current rom. Need feedback on this as well.

At the top of the HBOOT screen, does it show S-ON or S-OFF? If the latter, you need to re-root. If the former, I suggest downloading amon_RA Recovery.
Take the PC36IMG.zip file and place it on the root of your SD card (not in any folder), enter the bootloader and after a short pause, the bootloader *should* autodetect the file and prompt you to install. Installation takes less than 10 seconds. Afterwards, amon_RA will be your recovery.

thanks for the help, do you consider it a bad idea and start all over and unroot it then re do it? i only suggest it because i may have possibly missed a step rooting it, cause when i started up my phone i didnt have the market, gmail, i couldnt setup a google profile on my phone to retrieve contacts, none of that.

If you've flashed an AOSP rom then chances are you didn't flash the associated GAPPS (Google Apps) zip which would install the Google related stuff like the Android Market app, the Gmail app and others. If it is a Sense-based rom, I would re-wipe/factory reset and then reflash the rom. Rooting, in and of itself, has nothing to do with the Android Market app not being installed.

I am trying to flash it from cyanogen to the virus rom with sense 3.0 but even after i do the 1.77 downgrade it tells me that flashing the rom was aborted saying its 'bad'

Sounds like a bad or corrupt file that you're trying to flash. Either that or it's not flashable. Can you open the file up with your computer, or do you get an error? If you can open the file, is there a folder in there called META-INF.? if not, the zip is not flashable, and you probably downloaded a system dump by accident. Good luck.

Let's start from the beginning. Which rom are you trying to flash? I take it that you already have CyanogenMod installed but not the gapps zip. If the gapps zip is bad, make sure you are downloading the one specific to the version of CM that you've flashed. Downgrading the PRI to 1.77_003 is irrelevant in this matter. If, however, you're trying to flash a different rom that states that you need PRI 1.77_003 then okay. If you are trying to flash a different rom and it is AOSP, get the rom and associated gapps zip and place it on the SD card. Go into recovery and wipe EVERYTHING in the wipe menu EXCEPT the SD card. After that, flash the rom then flash the gapps zip.

Alright, I've been playing around with this for a week with no luck, so Im hoping someone here can shed some light on the problem.
I want to flash my HTC Desire with a custom ROM, but Im not going to attempt that without a working recovery first. Im using the newest version of clockwork recovery (5.0.2). Every recovery I've tried to make on this phone always gives me a md5 mismatch error.
I've only gotten around the problem one way, and thats to create a recovery in clockwork, and restore the backup right away after it's made. If I do that I dont get an md5 mismatch. But anytime the phone is rebooted, any recovery I make does get the error. Ive tried multiple versions of clockwork with no success.
Things I havent tried:
Different SD card
Different recovery
Anybody have any advice?
Please post the details of your Hboot and which rom you are currently running.

Would definitely recommend either trying a different SD card, or downloading h2testw.exe to test the SD for errors. This is step 1. Rule out the SD card.
Out of interest, step 2 is using a different recovery. CWM 2.5.0.7 or Amon-RA 2.0.1 depending on what your erase size is:
Download terminal emulator, open it and type:
Code:
cat /proc/mtd
and press enter (note the space between cat and /proc)
Alright, as far as rom and hboot, Im running stock. The phone is S-OFFed.
rootSU: I ran that h2testw on the sd card. Formatted the card and ran the test, came back with no errors. Still having the same problem though. Right now Im using clockwork 2.5.0.9 (oldest one on rom manager). Im thinking of trying a different recovery next. I tried the code you posted and it says my erasesize for everything is 0002000

Go on my guide, I have several links for many different recoveries. Try Ra-Desire it's probably the best.

I'm 99% sure that there is no such HBOOT version as "6.06.1002"

I swear thats exactly what it says. Could that have something to do with the problem, or cause problems in general?

Unrevoked sees it as a CDMA, so does rommanager

ahh okay, don't know about CDMA phones - just don't flash anything from the alpharev site or any radios
I'd just suggest trying Amon Ra's recovery and see if that works for you.
Alright, so after awhile of fiddling around I found a way to flash Amon Ra's recovery. I just used unrevoked and set it to custom recovery. However, it didnt work. Booting into recovery after that would just hang at the HTC screen.
I ran unrevoked again to get clockwork back and it went fine, but after it boots into recovery I get this:
Verifying system type...
E:unsupported radio version
E:Update failed. Check /sdcard/soff.log
E:Error in /data/local/unrevoked-forever.zip
(Status 42)
Installation aborted
I got the same thing the first time I rooted it, but i have superuser so I figured it was fine.
Is this a possible cause for concern?

Why didn't you just follow my guide on flashing a custom recovery?
