I'm trying to update to netarchy's HTC OTA Froyo 2.2, *FINAL*, build 3.36.651.6 (Rooted) Odexed from my current 1.17.651.1.
Here's my Software Information:
Code:
Firmware version: 2,1-update1
Baseband version: 1.36.00.04.02
Kernel version: 2.6.29-ac94cf60
Build number: 1.17.651.1 CL160858 test-keys
Software number: 1.17.651.1
Browser version: WebKit 3.1
PRI Version: 1.34_003

I used toastcfh's method to get full root and nand unlock. Can someone point to me to pretty stupified tutorial that will get me from where I am to where I want to go?
I've spent a couple hours scouring the forums and trying a couple different methods, but have failed miserably.
I appreciate your help!
Since you've gone through the toastfch tutorial already I assume you will know how to do the following already:
1. Boot into recovery
2. Do a nandroid backup
3. Wipe data, cache and dalvik (wiping data may not be necessary but I always do it to be safe*)
4. flash the new rom.zip file
5. Reboot
If you want to save your settings, ect I suggest doing a titanium backup before doing any of this because *YOU WILL LOSE ALL SETTINGS AND DATA (apps, ect).
you would think so, but I don't know how to flash the rom. :S
when I select "apply sdcard:update.zip" after wiping the cache and data, I get this:
"-- Install from sdcard...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted."
I copied netarchy's rom to the sdcard (with the 2 radios) and renamed it to update.zip.
Don't rename the new rom to update.zip. Leave it as the default name and flash it.

Doesn't seem to make a difference. I tried it originally with the full filename, then tried the update.zip, and now I renamed it and tried it again with the full name, but still getting the same message.
Do I need to change my recovery version? If so, how?
What recovery are you using? If you don't know, is the font blue or yellow (maybe orange - can't remember)?
Download netarchy's rom again, you shouldn't be failing the signature. And don't rename it this time. And delete any update.zip you have on the sd card.
The menu text is blue on the recovery menu.

Done. Same error.
You have clockworkmod recovery. Install amon ra recovery and try to flash your rom.
If you don't know how to install amon ra, the easiest way would be to download rom manager from the market and there should be an option to flash amon ra from the inside the app.

Cheers, mate. Will post back with results. I'm sure I screwed things up pretty good now, though. I just did the Simpleroot OTA 1.47... lol
Ok, so I still have SU, but ROM Manager keeps giving me "An error occured while attempting to run privileged commands!"
Arghh....
update: unrevoked fixed permissions.
installed ra amon, but recovery text is still blue.
Alright the easy way might not work for you. search for a guide that will get amon ra installed for you. I think that should solve your problems once you have it installed.

Got it all sorted now.
Turned out my nand unlock wasn't successful. Went back through toastcfh's past 2 and that sorted me out.
In the processing of flashing Fresh 3.1.0.1.
Will post back with the results tomorrow.
Everything looks good. Got Fresh 3.1.0.1 up and running.
Only problem is that Titanium isn't recognizing my backup files, so now I've got to figure that out.
I appreciate your help!
You did Simpleroot which is the first step in rooting..... reverting your software to a earlier method....if you go into the boodloader screen, your hboot version should say .0.76.xxx...then you need to to toast's method part 2 to obtain full root and gain super user permission, also when you do Toast part 2..it will upgrade you to the 1.47. But in the end I guess if unrevoked is working ok for you and you can flash roms...go for it. And last, you will find you may need to switch recoveries between RA and Clockworkmod...because some roms perfer one or the other.

I rooted my phone a while back using Unrevoked IIRC. And now I have been trying to get the new Froyo roms and I can't.
I have tried EVERYTHING and know I am following the instructions to a T! I tried to Simple Root .1 method, tried toast's method, tried using Rom Manager. I am at my wit's end and willing to pay somebody to help me if possible, I'd even send it off if I felt I could trust the person enough.
When I try to use Rom Manager premium, it tells me I don't have clockword's recovery then when it tries to install it it says, error running priveledged commands.
I got really close at one point a few tries ago, with Avalaunch but then I was just getting the opening animation and not passed that.
When I go to software I get this,
Firmware- 2.1-update1
Baseband version- 1.39.00.04.26
Kernel Version- 2.6.29-a2443432, htc-kerneland18-2 #1
Build number- 1.32.651.1 CLI171352 test-keys
PRL- 60662
PRI- 1.34_003
Software- 1.32.651.1
My aim is bigdawgdl v2 if maybe you can help me out. Like I said, I have done everything, tried every direction and I'm getting nowhere and just end up having to start all over then reinstall my stuff (pandora, slacker, meebo, etc.) multiple times.
Unrevoked doesn't give you full root, you need to use easy root 4 step method.
Sent from my netarchy_toast, froyo beast of a machine evo !
Well, i have rooted over 20 evos here in rochester, ny. Are u using unrevoked 1? What is ur hboot at top left of screen? This how i root every evo so far. Uninstall unrevoked then reboot. This should unroot ur phone to software version 1.32. Then find the simpleroot 123 for software version 1. 32. After rooting i use whitslacks starting over. I install the pc32img file which includes ra recovery to root of sd card. Dont add the . Zip to it. Follow his instructions. When the phone reboots it will load the file and select yes to update. After the phone reboots and loads copy su2.1.zip to the sd card. This will give u superuser permissions. Next power off the phone and turn on the phone holding the volume down key and power button. This will bring u into recovery. Navigate down to flash zip. Select the su zip and flash it. Reboot. Then power off and go back into recovery. Next i do i nand backup. Select nand backup/restore. Select backup and backup. When it is done reboot you should now have 1. 47 stock rom. Do a profile update and prl update. DO NOT DO A HTC UPDATE!!!! Now onto froyo. I personally am using calklins v1. 02 rom. I find it to be stable, snappy, and real fast with 44 mflops and 1450 quadrant when overclocked. So download a rom. Boot into recovery wipe everything. Data, cache, dalvik, and battery. Flash the rom reboot. Go back to recovery flash the new radio reboot. Back to recovery flash the new wimax reboot. Back to recovery do another nand backup of froyo rom reboot. Nowyou have froyo and more importantly a backup of eclair stock and a backup of froyo. Btw newest radios and wimax are located usually with new roms as a download links right below them. I am really confident in rooting evos and took alot of reading and errors with my 1st evo. Now it is just clockwork. Hope this helps. If u really cant figure it out, i would do it for you. But i know u can do it.

Copy your favorite ROM zip file to the root of the SD card; reboot your phone into recovery - either by holding VOL DOWN and selecting recovery from the HBOOT menu, or using the "adb reboot recovery" command. Once you are in recovery, select "Flash zip from SD card" option (this may vary depending on which recovery image you are using) and scroll to the zip file. Power button is used as ENTER. Good luck.

Sweet! Thanks guys! I will do this and let you know how it goes. I will be using Fresh Evo 3.4.0.1. Btw, do I need to backup anything else besides contacts which are already in my gmail account? I don't mind losing my apps because I can just reinstall the ones I actually use.

I would recommend doing a Nand backup first in Recovery.
Then after your Nand backup is done, you'll want to wipe Data/Factory Reset, Cache and Dalvik-Cache in Recovery as well then you can proceed to 'Flash ZIP from SD card'.
I never backup anything other than what my gmail saves.
EDIT: Also, your Radio and PRI are out of date. I would recommend only flashing the new Radio/PRI with Amon Ra recovery. Be very careful when flashing this. This is one true way to brick your phone(small chance but still).
I think you are supposed to flash the new Fresh 3.4.0.1 when it is done reboot the phone. Go through the whole setup process with gmail then reboot back into Recovery and flash the Radio/PRI. You might want to wait for confirmation before flashing the Radio/PRI from someone else.
Here is the link for the new ones -- http://geekfor.me/evo/radio/baseband-215000901/ (There is also a guide on there too)
EDIT2: If you don't have any problems with your phone then you can skip it if you want and wait for the next ones to come.

Okay, just to make sure, so that I dont mess this up:
Nand Backup in Recovery
wipe Data/Factory Reset
Cache and Dalvik-Cache in Recovery
Flash ZIP from SD card
I think I'll wait on flashing the radio and PRI since that part seems kind of risky for a newbie like me right now.
Thanks!

Just to confirm as well when wiping the data/factory reset...that is in Recovery...as well as Cache and Dalvik.
The two separate lines kind of threw me off, I just want to make sure you didn't think from within the phone to wipe data/factory reset.
Yeah, if you don't seem to have a problem with anything, I would hold off on flashing the Radio/PRI.
EDIT: So, pretty much...
*Do Nand backup
*Wipe data/factory, cache and dalvik-cache in Recovery
*Flash ZIP from SD card*
*Get everything setup and then make a Nand backup of Fresh 3.4.0.1
*Enjoy
Oops, yeah you meant in Recovery mode for the 2nd item right?
Unfortunately I cannot get my phone into recovery mode no matter what I do (ROM Manager or reboot with volume up + power.). My phone just sits there on the white EVO screen.
I'm thinking that the update messed up my root somehow. I can still use Wifitether just fine. I just had to find a different version. Maybe I should try the Unrevoked method again?
Okay, I got it to work. All I did was run UnRevoked again and I was able to get into recovery mode again and do what I needed to do.
Thanks eveyone!
I rooted my EVO last night. First I tried unrevoked but it aborted so then I tried unrevoked forever and it appears that the rooting was successful since I have both a superuser icon and S-OFF.
Here's what I'm currently working with:
Code:
Windows 7 x64
Supersonic EVT2-3 SHIP S-OFF
Current SW: 3.29.651.5
Baseband Version: 2.15.00.09.01
Kernel version: 2.6.32.15-ge2fb08e ([email protected] #11)
PRI Version: 1.77_003
PRL Version: 60672
HW Version: 0003
HBOOT: 0.97.0000
microp: 041f
TOUCH Panel-atmel224_16ab
Radio: 2.15.00.09.01
This is where I would like to be:
1. Have all my info backed up
2. Rooted stock ROM or stable alternative with latest updates and but all the crap programs that I do not use removed (like NASCAR, Friendstream, etc.) AND ALL MY INFO RESTORED.
3. Be able to update whatever ROM I have installed without losing my data and having to re-install everything whenever there is an update (is this possible?)
Here's what I'm doing and where I'm having problems:
1. Rooted - DONE
2. Nandroid backup - DONE
3. Data backup - DONE (I think with MyBackup and Titanium Backup I'm covered. If this is incorrect please let me know)
4. From what I understand I should now install a "recovery". - DONE (Installed ROM Manager per suggestion below which let me flash Amon RA)
5. Also, the HBOOT version (0.97.0000) on my phone appears older than the ones most referenced in these threads. Does it need to be updated for any reason? - DONE (No benefit to updating per the reply below).
6. Backup WiMax keys
7. Flash Rooted ROM (Still need to chose one - hopefully stable and available through ROM manager)
8. Restore user data - What is safe to restore and what will cause problems?
Thanks for the help and my apologies for my Android noobness.
Install amon using Rom manager. You first install clockworkmod then you would go to alternate recovery and install amon from Rom manager. As long as you don't back up system files with Titanium you will be fine. I'm not sure how to save text though if upgrade roms.

Thanks for the super-quick reply. My understanding from what I've read so far is that clockworkmod and Amon Ra are two "competing" recoveries. Is this incorrect?
It seem that I can do what you suggest needing only the "ROM manager" program available via marketplace, correct?
Thanks for the clarification.

First underlying issue; can't update the radio and PRI in my EVO4G. I am using the latest fresh Rom, 3.5
First tried using clockwork, the updates think they install but never show up in the software info when I check. Then I tried using the FreshUpdater, which also fails and advises me to use AmonRA.
Second issue, I can't flash the AmonRA image. First fails with the terminal emulator, tells me there is not enough space on the device (4 gb isn't enough? Yeah right). Second fail with the ROM Manager... it thinks it succeeds but when I reboot into recovery, I still have the old clockwork... yet the Rom manager continues to report AmonRA is my current recovery agent...
To eliminate solutions, I have:
Root access
Latest Rom manager, terminal emulator, AmonRA
Plenty if space available
Directories and terminal commands are all correct
Was never plugged into the PC during flash attempts
Please help me out guys lol

Rename it PC36IMG.ZIP and place it on the root of your sdcard. Then boot into hboot and answer yes when prompted. Let it do its thing and select recovery after. That should do it.

So same story even with amonRA ?!?!?! Omg ...
What Rom u using? Latest fresh???
I have recently rooted my phone and there was a couple things missing, and i wanted to just flash a new rom onto it, but no matter how i try it, i cannot load up the clockwork mod recovery. If i click 'recovery' in the hboot menu, it just pops up the 'htc evo 4g' screen for less than a second, then goes right back to the hboot screen. Any suggestions?
At the top of the HBOOT screen, does it show S-ON or S-OFF? If the latter, you need to re-root. If the former, I suggest downloading amon_RA Recovery.
Take the PC36IMG.zip file and place it on the root of your SD card (not in any folder), enter the bootloader and after a short pause, the bootloader *should* autodetect the file and prompt you to install. Installation takes less than 10 seconds. Afterwards, amon_RA will be your recovery.

If you've flashed an AOSP rom then chances are you didn't flash the associated GAPPS (Google Apps) zip which would install the Google related stuff like the Android Market app, the Gmail app and others. If it is a Sense-based rom, I would re-wipe/factory reset and then reflash the rom. Rooting, in and of itself, has nothing to do with the Android Market app not being installed.

Sounds like a bad or corrupt file that you're trying to flash. Either that or it's not flashable. Can you open the file up with your computer, or do you get an error? If you can open the file, is there a folder in there called META-INF.? if not, the zip is not flashable, and you probably downloaded a system dump by accident. Good luck.

Let's start from the beginning. Which rom are you trying to flash? I take it that you already have CyanogenMod installed but not the gapps zip. If the gapps zip is bad, make sure you are downloading the one specific to the version of CM that you've flashed. Downgrading the PRI to 1.77_003 is irrelevant in this matter. If, however, you're trying to flash a different rom that states that you need PRI 1.77_003 then okay. If you are trying to flash a different rom and it is AOSP, get the rom and associated gapps zip and place it on the SD card. Go into recovery and wipe EVERYTHING in the wipe menu EXCEPT the SD card. After that, flash the rom then flash the gapps zip.
